This location has terrible in-store customer service! We won't be going back to Pep Boys after several bad experiences in a row here. This place has the absolute worst customer service that I have ever had they've completely threw me around on to the back burner every time I've been there for service. There's been times when they would confirm over the phone saying they have things and don't have them when I get there. They're also never on time. Me and my mom drop off her car at 12p.m to get her breaks done. They said that we will get a phone call in an hour never got the call so we went up there at 3. We told them we didn't get a phone call and they told us what needs to be done and we told them to do it. They told us it will take 2 hours. It is 5 and the car was not worked on. When it comes to major auto repairs, I just don't think of Pep Boys. Ashley, who I think is the new Service Manager (if she isn't--she should be), made a believer out of me. As long as she is there it will be the first place I will call for a quote. Here is why... 1. I was skeptical about a woman understanding car talk--she not only talked it, she walked it! 2. This is a big one: She did everything within her power to help bring the cost down on a clutch replacement job down to something I could afford. In fact, I was only inquiring, but she was so helpful in saving me money on the repair, I decided to have it done that day (there were some promo incentives ending soon). 3. She was incredibly personable, outgoing and customer service oriented. Her smile was infectious and lifted my spirits (I was going through family problems) 4. When I mentioned I had no one to that could give me a ride home, she drove me about 6 miles in her car--on her lunch hour...I couldn't believe this. 5. When they unexpectedly had to turn the flywheel, she authorized it without asking me to pay additional. 3. Three months later, couldn't be happier with the work done. BTW, I have had a couple customer service related returns in past and had always been satisfied with how they were handled. I do not normally write reviews. I was in front of Metro PCS when my battery failed me In a car I just purchased from Fine Auto Sales on Palm Avenue. Lucky for me Pep Boys shared the same parking lot of Metro PCS. I went there to ask for a jump and asked for them to test my battery. It was bad, so I purchased a new one. The mechanic came in and said your brakes are metal on metal. Would I like an inspection, yes I said. Remind you I just purchased this car a day ago. The brake fluid was contaminated, oil in the radiator meaning a blown head gasket, seals leaking in the transmission and parts glued to the transfer case. Man, was I upset with the dealer of Fine Auto Sales who befriended me a day ago. Telling me I was getting a well maintained car and a great price. I did some research and first thing Monday I took the car back to Fine Auto Sales. We had some argument and major disagreements but I did get most of my money back. If it was not for Mario the service Mechanic I would have been in more trouble if more days had past. This is the one time that I was glad they checked the brake pads. It lead to more testing. Before having my kid drive on her donut spare to the shop we checked the website to make sure they had options and good prices. On the website, there were all kinds of specials and options. This told me they would have whatever we need. Also, the prices looked really good with all the specials. When in the store however, I find that they only keep 2 options in stock. Option one is almost 3 times the price of the ones we priced on the website. This means it is NOT an option at all. Option two was still more money than what we priced on the site but bottom tier (read garbage) tires. Not to worry though, if we go home, order the tires online, drive on the donut spare for about three days (we'll call you), we can get a price more like what is online. But wait, there's more! Let's not forget about the alignment that will be necessary to maintain any type of warranty. The website didn't mention any of that. If I was a betting man, I'd say the website is set up to get people in the door no matter what. The salesman was very good at trying to capitalize on "up sell opportunities" and "overcoming objections". Sadly, that is not what I wanted or needed. "Who wants to drive across town on the donut to shop around"? Most people won't. "We're already here". Well, I did. And saved $190.00. The tires I got aren't quite as good as "option one" but are far better than the "option two economy" tire and affordable as well. In fact, the whole transaction went off much like I had expected from reading the Pep Boys website. But, it wasn't at Pep Boys. For the most part, these tires come from the same manufacturers for about the same prices. Occasionally, you can save money on overstocks or rebates. Those are great when they happen. But, if you make stuff sound better than it is just to get the salesman a shot at me, I won't spend a dime there. Every business should make an honest profit but if you use less than honest seeming methods to get me there, I'll just move on, thanks. I don't know if I got a "discount" at the other place necessarily, but I do know that I was told straight up what they did and didn't have and then I got to make the choice. I have been to several Pep Boys through the years. This is the best one I have been to. The shop and its garage are centrally located and are convenient and easy to access. The staff listened to my concerns about my car. They worked hard on my car and got all the work done in a timely fashion. I was completely satisfied with the experience. My car was on its last legs and now it is running like new! These guys knew their stuff, made sure I understood what was needed and respected my wants and needs. Two experiences, had them change out all my wiper blades on a 2013 Prius, which was effortless and free with purchase of the replacement blades (on sale as well!) and the next day had all four headlights bulbs replaced on a 2008 BMW 128i. Turns out there was a problem with the alignment of the bulbs on one side on the BMW, so I had to go back the next morning to get it fixed, and they immediately made it right, no charge. Nice people to work with. Both my wife and I have had only positive experiences there. I'd recommend them for any standard regular maintenance work, particularly if your car is out of warranty. This place is unbelievable. My girlfriend called asking for an estimate and was quoted around $485. After doing some research and calling other places, we realized this price was far too high. I called 3 days later to the same PepBoys and requested the same quote and was told it would be $235. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. They are trying to take advantage of the fact that girls are not knowledgeable on cars or car services. I would NOT recommend going to this location. Had my car towed to Pep Boys just down the street to replace a dead battery (which I had already reserved via their website online). While you could just DIY, why would you want to when they include the install with the purchase? Definite time-saver. Customer service was very quick to get us checked in (**general rule of going anywhere: always make an appointment**) and found my order. If I had to guess, we were there for an hour an a half and the time passed by quickly as we chatted it with some folks waiting and I brought a toy for my LO to play with. Very happy w/ the work. I always love not paying an arm and a leg for auto services. Pep Boys won't try to gouge you like other places. ((cough cough-- a place that rhymes with "Pyer stone")). Just saying... Recently purchased tires and warranty from the Santee branch. They were great. Took it in to get tires rotated and balanced. Come back almost 2 hours later to check on the progress and they didn't have my warranty information. So instead of calling me to inform me they needed to know more they just wait till I come back and then proceed to tell me I had to wait even longer before they can even get to my truck. I don't know if Pep Boy people are specifically trained to ignore customers but this is the worst offender. My boyfriend and I were waiting in whatever pep boys considers a checkout stand and Mark finishes with a tire customer and then ignores us and calls out to the guy at the checkout stand 50 ft further from us. Instead of waiting like an idiot that works at Pep Boys I'll just go to O'Reillys where I can be checked out same day. The people that work here should be more clear of when smog checks are available or be trained properly about the info at the store. I was given a quote from this location and when I got there, they said they don't do smog checks at this location at all....so why didn't the woman tell me that earlier -___- and said to try the other locations in Santee so I gave them a call and at least they had the decency to say that the technician is only there from 9-6. Went to get my brake light changed and when I picked my car up they lost the screws to hold the light in and bent my trunk lid by shutting something in the side of the trunk and when I asked them about it right after they said they didn't do it and they would not fix it. I even called the corporate office and they said their employee did not cause the damage and they would not repair it. Worst pep boys/ mechanic around. I brought my car back in after just having my brakes done in JUNE because of horrible vibrating and squealing. I purchased a 12 oz container of air conditioner recharge for my car before pep boys in El cajon went out of business. I asked the employee who checked me out if I'd be able to get the $10 core charge back. He assured me I could go into any of the pep boys tire centers since they were all still in existence and I would get my money back. I had contacted the tire center and they had no idea about it so they contacted their headquarters and they said I could take it up to Encinitas or Carlsbad as the stores were still open there. I live in lakeside so that was not an option. He did say that I could take it back to the store there and he try to work with me on it. So I did take it back to the store and he said I can't help you. I contacted customer service at their 800 number and they said I would have to go into the tire store and they would send in a claims to the headquarters. I was given the runaround and now I've given up on the whole darn thing of getting my money back for the core. read more

I have been to this Pep boys several times already because if it inst one thing, its another that my car needs. What really impressed me about this place is the quality service that they have in the store and in their tire center. I work for a company that its main focus is customer service, so I am very picky on how I am treated. This store itself goes above and beyond when taking care of their customers. I seen some reviews on here that talk about bad service and what not, but don't be fooled by them. I have seen the employees take care of problems in a highly professional manner and have helped their customers leave satisfied. A little while ago i took my car in to have the catalytic converter changed and a few other parts. When i took it there i was told that the part that i bought for my car was the incorrect part (i did not purchase the part at pep boys). I got a little upset that it was the wrong part and honestly didn't believe them at first. That is when one of the associates named Ashley came over and showed me how the part that i had purchased did not fit correctly. She began to give me several options on what i could do. She offered me the part and told me that she could get it for me very quickly as it had to be special ordered. Also, she rescheduled my appointment and told me what else i could change in my car while we were at it so more problems wouldn't happen. She completely went above and beyond to help change my mood and make sure that I was satisfied. It wasn't their fault that i bought the wrong part, but she made it seem as if it was, just so i wouldn't be upset and make sure i was happy. That right there is some great customer service, she went above and beyond to ensure that I was satisfied with the service, she offered me the parts i needed and extra parts that she would recommend be changed at the same time. She was very polite and very intelligent about her products, which is what any employer would want at their business. For this reason is why I keep coming to this pep boys, because I have never had a bad experience with any of the employees. They always go above and beyond and get to the bottom line with what you can do to ensure your car is running at its best. My truck was close to failing so I stopped by this pep boys to change the alternator and purchase one right before closing.
