Very disappointing experience with Pep Boys. I brought my car in for a front windshield wiper replacement and the job was already paid in advance through Hertz. I was told I would get a call on Monday, but no one ever contacted me. I waited over two and a half hours total with no real updates or communication, and I had to follow up myself on Wednesday. Because of this delay, I was unable to drive my rental car for Lyft during heavy thunderstorms, which caused me to lose work and income for several days. The front desk attendant Sheila, was awful. We received a call 1.5 hours after drop off saying that our vehicle was ready for pickup. When we arrived, without us saying a word, she said that she had a lot going on and that we needed to wait. After 45 minutes, we received a message saying that it would not be ready for 3 hours. I went to ask her if we should come back and she started yelling at me and shaking her hands at me and threatening me. She stated that she was too busy to check us out and that she had a lot going on and she would not stop yelling at me or my husband. There were two people there that were waiting for their vehicles, not waiting to be checked out. Been coming here regularly for 8 years for all my mechanical work, maintenance, and tires...had an APPOINTMENT this morning at 9am for a simple oil change and, TWO HOURS LATER, my vehicle hadn't even been pulled into the garage yet. The manager on duty Joel realized after getting us checked in that the previous pep boys we went to right up the road put the wrong size tire on my car and gave us bad service all around. Joel replaced that tire at no additional charge to us and put on the new tire we came for. My car is driving so much better. Yeah you can be honest to people and try stop charging for services that the customer never requested it and then turn around and on an insurance claim & signed my name to the insurance papers without my consent. Saying that that I gave me consent when I was returning back to the store from returning my rental car and I was going to be back in like 10-15 minutes. He had no right saying my name and now I'm filing legal action against them. Beware they do the bait and switch. They disconnected the AC motor and told me that I need a blower motor or another part on the air conditioning and all I had to do was drive up my friend's two car ramps and plug the wire. They unplugged from the blower mower and not only that they try ripping me off. My deductible was supposed to be $100. The insurance company paid for the part but they choose to get their own part and never notified me and charge me an extra $213 for that part. That is illegal and I just say buyer be beware. That's all I can say. I would never recommend pep boys again to anyone and I used to have My friend's cars going to pep boys different cars a month because my buddy has a shop and used to send them over to them for work would never do it again And this is only alleged at this time but this will be brought up in court. Small claims about what they did to me with my insurance. I tried calling their corporate office 4 days and nobody returned the call. So like I said, I never gave that manager authorization to sign my name and even though he did sign my name when I asked him to show me what he signed he told me get that out of his store and he is not going to show me what he signed so I don't even know what he signed. he said it was so they can get paid from the insurance company and I never even got to see what the insurance companies the estimate and what they where. They'll pay only what they told me and then they did the bait and switch and use their own thing and said oh well we the insurance company denied the diagnostics because they just looked at it and that's not a true diagnostic but they tried charging $99 for each of the 3 different things they looked at and then they turned around and after I thought that they took the all the $99 off because my even my insurance company said it was bogus what they did and then they ordered their own duel scooling fan and raised the price of that over $213 more than that could have been overnighted and then they tried charging me that so instead of just paying $100 deductible they want me pay $296. And like I said I know time that I ever give pep boys consent to sign my name but he said I did and I also called the Gardner place and filed a complaint which recommended that I go to small claims court and and sue them for what they did because it's just a hearsay at this time and I can prove it which I have documentation and ways of proving it Please so if you ever have a bad experience make sure you call the police on them because I'm sure they're watching them now. I've used this Pep Boys store for 20 years for my annual vehicle inspections, oil changes and the occasional flat tire. Service is very economical, especially because they run specials on different services all the time and offer coupons. Signing up for their mailing and mobile texts is well worth your time and money. Customer service is stellar. The gents are extremely polite, don't act impatient, scornful or give you a brushoff with questions (MUCH appreciated since I'm a stereotypical auto-illiterate female ) and give you a reliable estimate. Wait times of course can vary, but my longest wait ever was only two hours to get a replacement tire, even though it was during a Friday rush hour! The store itself is well-stocked, with parts, tires, car care supplies, etc. Great business and very trustworthy. Thanks! read more

I brought my car for a oil change only and immediately leaving once I got in the car and stepped on the accelerator my engine started making noise. I drove the car back and asked if anything else was done or if they could check why it was making noise when accelerating. The response I received was "all we did was change the oil so I don't know why". I took my car to the dealership for them to inspect and they said the filter was put on incorrect. We had a couple of great experiences. Honest and good work so we continued to go trying to build relationships/ trust (etc.) My husband took my car Thursday to get it diagnosed (eval) to figure out whatever was going on with it. He took it Thursday 8/3 and was told it would only take a few hrs. We were not called until Friday morning and told the eval results. We then said we would come pick it up and discovered that personal items were missing from my trunk and they ransacked through it and also out of the middle counsel inside of my car. No damages to the outside of my vehicle so a break in was improbable. We then called and explained the situation and was told by the manager that he would check security cameras and call back by the end of the business day. We received no such call. We then called the next morning and was told he didn't have time but if he did he would look at it and call us back. We then received a phone call a few hrs later from a different employee NOT THE MANAGER and was told there was no footage of anyone going inside my vehicle and they were not responsible for what happened in the parking lot and to file a police report. Pep Boys-Clayton, NC off of Business Hwy 70 My car battery died on the evening of March 1st. I had USAA get my car towed to Pep Bous location on business hwy 70 in Clayton, NC. The car was dropped off at the location at 6:55pm. I arrived with my car and went inside to check it in. I spoke with DeMarcus about how I simply needed a new battery (because I had just gotten my 100k car work done, with oil, rotation, alignment, etc on February 16th so I knew that was the only thing it could be) because the battery had looked like it exploded. He refused to change out the battery without doing a diagnostic test because it was "mandatory". After some back and forth, I said I just need a new battery and he still wouldn't do it without a diagnostic. With options limited I said whatever. At the at point, we left and not even 14 minutes later I get a call saying the diagnostic was complete. We all know that diagnostics don't take 5 minutes as my family owns several auto shops in MN. So that was a huge red flag, among him following up with that charge and the charge for a new battery is $200 for a 2014 Rav 4. I kindly declined and said I'd be in the next morning. I was there when it opened and spoke with the owner Cesar. I started by asking what we owed and the diagnostic was on it. So I showed him the time stamped text from when we dropped it off to the time stamped call from DeMarcus stating the diagnostic was "complete". Time difference of 14 minutes. Not possible. To add to that, they also sent a report on how I needed new tires, alignment, oil change, etc. how did they run a diagnostic AND hoist the car into the shop to check all of that in such a short time period? They didn't. It isn't possible. Little do they know that had they looked at the sticker on the windshield that states when the oil was last changed and car serviced, they'd have known that not all of that needs to be done. I said that it was extremely wrong that they took advantage of a woman (unfortunately typical in this industry) that clearly stated just needing a new battery. Cesar didn't admit to wrong doing, he just said he'd "pay the technician" that we didn't owe anything, and then he was extremely disrespectful as I exited. To whomever is reading this, please understand the disappointment in this issue and customer service. If you have children in this world then I'm sure you can resonate with the fact that the last thing you want is for them to be taken advantage of and conned into things they don't need only for financial gain of the company and not the betterment of the customer and their situation. If I could, I would rate this place 0 stars. I had just gotten my car inspected, and while it passed, I was still advised to get my brakes looked at soon. So I went to the nearest car shop with great reviews on Google, and a great deal online. I got a free brake inspection, and got a whole list of issues with my car. I was told it was going to cost me over $1,000. I told them that I could not afford that at the moment, but I would take care of the most important thing and be on my way. It still came to over $1,000. So I said I'm sorry, I cannot meet that cost, deciding that I needed a second opinion. With other customers in the office, the lady remarked "I wouldn't drive that car." That was humiliating. And I just passed state inspection!! And the mechanic shot me the nastiest look as he handed off my keys. Unreal. I was polite the entire time, and this was how I was treated. I ended up going to a local place, and paid not even half of the cost that Pep Boys were going to charge me!! I called here one Sunday day that I needed my tires done very badly. I was taking a trip to Boston the next day to school and I did not feel comfortable or safe driving with the current tires I had on. Renae answered the phone. She was very pleasant and I asked her if she could get me in and how soon. She told me to come on in now and they'll fit me in. She told me it would take about 1.5 hours and she talked me into getting an oil change, by me realizing that she was correct! If I was taking a long trip like that and I hadn't changed my oil in a long time, it would be beneficial to go ahead and get it done now. I also get free oil changes where I bought my car, but I really like how Renae spoke to me and fit me in, I went ahead and agreed with her I'll get one done. I accidentally went to the wrong Pep Boys and when I realized it, I called her and told her it would be about another 30 min before I could get there and could she still fit me in. She said yes. So I got there and opened the door and she said "Kristie?" I only gave her my name one time, the first time I called! She remembered! I could tell they were busy so I went ahead and gave her the keys and sat while they fixed my tires and oil. Brian was my "tire guy". He was awesome. Very nice. He had a certain trustworthy face that I could tell he really valued his work and doing the best job he could. And he did! I appreciate everything Renae and Brian did for me, and I will be back to get my tires changed with them when it's due, again :) great job in hiring, Pep Boys! You have great employees. I brought my car in for an alignment and inspection. My alignment concern was with the rear of the car due to a pothole. They told me the front was off, even though it felt fine and the tires have been wearing evenly. When I first got the car back, the steering wheel was at least 10-degrees off center. They took it back and then it was 5-degrees off to the other direction. After the third try, it was only 2-3 degrees off, but felt strange even though it hadn't felt off before they handled it. The tech test drove the car with me in the passenger seat and drove aggressively, bordering on recklessly. He was belligerent when speaking with me, and generally had terrible customer service. After all of this, I took the car to another shop, which redid the alignment and identified damaged suspension components that Pep Boys had missed entirely. I recommend you look elsewhere for your tire and alignment needs. read more

Amazon allows you to make an appointment for the installation So I did for 8/24. When I got there Guest what No Tires and they said I Didn't have an appointment. My check engine light kept coming on and my car kept cutting off (had to wait 1/2 hr. to restart) so I took my car to Pep Boys (Garner) to repair it. I was told the repairs were NOT COVERED by my warranty. I made 3 trips to them and by now I had PAID OUT OF POCKET for 3 different parts to be put on my car, and check engine light was still coming on, even though they had assured me that the problem WAS FIXED. I needed my car running right, so I took it to another repair shop and they repaired it (within 3 hours), it WAS COVERED by my warranty, and I haven't had a problem since. I contacted PEP BOYS later and the manager said I should have brought it back to them so they could fix it right. i COULD NOT AFFORD TO DO ANYMORE BUSINESS WITH PEP BOYS, and not getting my car repaired right the first time, instead of just switching parts out as they had done. This place sucks. Came in for an oil change. I expected the wait time, but did not expect to be blatantly lied to. I was told halfway through my service that 3 of my tires were at a 0 tread and "about to pop any minute." This was laughable to me, as I make it a habit to check my tires. I just declined to replace them, but when my vehicle was returned I wanted to check them again. I was able to physically grip into the tread and my boyfriend agreed they were trying to rip me off. Best part is I then took my car to another shop for inspection. They told me my tires were good and that these folks were just trying to get me to spend more money. Brought my car in for a brake and alignment check, had an appointment at 1230 and the car didn't get taken back for 45 minutes, they initially didn't do the brake check so with my three year old and 18 month old we ended up being here until 3:30 for what should have been an hour appointment if that. Well after getting my alignment fixed, there was a sudden shake while driving the car over 70mph. I called and they told me to bring the car back, I set up an appointment for 10:45 arrived on time, again with two kids in tow. They didn't even take my car back until 11:52. This place first of all messed something up on my car and secondly has no respect for customers time at all. If you bring your car here, which I wouldn't, be prepared to clear your schedule for the day. read more

I went this morning to have a coolant flush and to have my battery cables inspected as when i replaced my battery in the spring I noticed corrosion. Being a women I braced myself to pay out the wazoo to have both cables replaced as several shops I have been to before have tried to exploit me based on my gender. I was shocked when the service manager told me that not only were my cables fine, all they needed was a good cleaning which they did not charge me for!!! I didn't even buy the battery from them! It was much appreciated to be able to go to a shop have my car taken care of with good service and without trying to be up-charged for a service I didn't need. I will be back for future services for sure! read more

Took my 98 Ford Ranger to have the brake fluid removed and replaced after a master cylinder change. I was given the keys with the pedal sinking to the floor. Unbelievable. They were expecting me to drive in this condition. I discussed that this was unacceptable and was told maybe another $30 of adjustment service could fix the problem. They found a emergence drum brake cable to be discontinued at the left rear. The brakes were improved but still not acceptable. By now I have no faith in the service department and took my truck home to fix it myself, which I did by a simple bleeding. Hard petal and great service because of my efforts and not Pep Boys. I called the service department and informed them that I had fixed my brakes. They thanked me... No offers of compensation for their lack of follow through. Done. Highly recommend this store ! The store manager ,Renea, is extremely friendly and helpful! She knows her stuff and is someone I absolutely would trust with any vehicle. I had a problem with my tires being out of balance and when I called she said to come that very day to get me in! Brian serviced my car and was also extremely nice and efficient with my car. I also ended up getting some new tires for a great price. I will be absolutely coming back to this location whenever I need anything done!!! read more

I went in because my car wasn't running right and check engine light would flash sometime. I told them I just replaced #1 coil. They did diagnostic testing and called me to say the #3 coil and all spark plugs needed to be replaced. They said I also needed a fuel injection cleaning. I told them to fix it. A week later my check engine light came on again. The code reader said misfire coil #1, Pep Boys suppose to have changed spark plugs and coil 3. We opened the engine to see that #1 coil was a FORD manufactured coil and that is NOT what was in there when they received the car ( It was a duralast, and I have receipt from the duralast Coil purchase and had already been replaced). So they replaced #3 coil with new one and put the bad FORD coil in #1 (which is misfiring now since PEPBOYS had it). I called Tony to tell him about coil #1 and that there was a brand new Duralast coil when I took it to them to be looked at. He said they didn't do anything with coil #1 and that the mechanic and manager isn't there until Wednesday and I needed to talk to them. I told him I was coming in and he HUNG UP on me. I went to Pep Boys following the phone call. Again Tony was at the desk and said that he couldn't help me. He said he called the Mechanic RUSSELL who worked on my car and RUSSELL said when he received the car it had all 4 FORD manufactured coils. I told Tony that no #1 was a Duralast and I have receipt from purchase. He said no that Russell knows what he was doing and didn't do anything to coil #1 and I needed to talk to manager and she wouldn't be in for a few days. He said its our word against yours. I said do you have any pictures of how it looked before you worked on it since its just your word and our word.He said no. So I brought him the original FORD COIL from #1 that I still had from it being changed to a new DURALAST ( not replaced at PEPBOYS) and said if you only replaced the #3 FORD COIL and threw the old one away how do I have the old ford one in my possession and he just shrugged his shoulders. In short, RUSSELL said that my car was brought in with all 4 FORD manufactured coils and that he thew the bad one away, yet I have the FORD manufactured coil in my possession because that's the one I changed. He put the bad coil that was supposed to be replaced and thrown out in a different cylinder so I would have to pay to have more service done. ( they through my new coil away that I had put in). Don't go there, they will make more problems so you will need to give them more money!!! read more

Came in for an inspection and it took over an hour. There were plenty of people working, but they weren't very organized. Inspections don't typically that long, especially when you have an appointment. read more

Been going here for years, last time, over charging for installed parts, the parts were half price off the shelf, I was ripped off and the service rep just plain lied about the reason for the extra charge on parts. read more

They are such a fishing man who fishes unexperienced customer. I used to use here to change oil. Recently I visited here to replace a light bulb. They mentioned it relates an issue with break pad and recommended me to replace the pads which costs $310. When I rejected their suggestion at first, even they discounted the cost to $250 due to 'emergency' reason. I finally accepted their offer. After several days, a friend of mine, who is an skillful technician, told me that the bulb and the pad are nothing related at all. I realize that I am Asian and they exploited my immature knowledge. They earned several hundreds dollars, but will lose their business gradually. If you want to visit this center, please know that some fraud might there. read more

My car was making noises that I've never heard before! I've had awful experiences with dealerships within the last year so bringing in my car to an auto shop was a bit nerve wracking for a noise that I had no idea what it could be. Jason and his staff was fast and figured it out!! Gave me a deal on the fix and made me feel like I was in great hands. I will be going back for each issue going forward. The absolute worst! Took my vehicle in, they diagnosed it, I paid to have service done and drove off. The same day, the car was doing the same thing. I took it back, now all of a sudden, they found more work that needs to be done. If that's the case, why didn't you find that when you initially looked at the vehicle! Corporate does nothing so no need to complain to them. Stay away from Pep Boys - Garner! They can't even put on a set of tires without messing something up. Incompetence at its finest. read more
