I cannot say enough good things about Chuck. He called me the morning of my appointment and made sure all of my information was in the computer in preparation for my visit. He took me right in at my appointment time and even negotiated with my fleet company for the better more durable tires for my company vehicle. I also had to get an inspection with emissions and I was on my way in little time. I think this man deserves the Customer Service Award of ExCELLENCE because he is the reason people come back. Corrupt, unethical liars. I went for my 2017 Nissan Rogue's inspection. They told me I needed new brakes and rotors, which I purchased and they installed.. 1 week later my brake and traction warning lights were on. My car is driving fine, as always. No issues whatsoever, Just the warning lights. I took back to pep boys for a diagnosis. They said I needed a new master cylinder and new alternator. DO NOT take your vehicle here if you want an honest mechanic. I had 2 other reputable mechanics look at my vehicle after Pep Boys $2,000 diagnosis for a new master and alternator, with no explanation why or how.. Just the response," thats what came up" with apparently no other explanation.. I paid yet another diagnosic bill, then left for more opinions. The "problems" and lights were all fixed simply by installing a new $200 battery. That is all that was ever needed. I am so disappointed by these actions. Roy Nye was our mechanic for 20 yrs there. My husband and I took our car to this shop to put one new set of wheels, over $1,000 for the set. We waited a long time with a less-than pleasant mechanic to have the tires installed and, then, received the car to take it on a road trip to Philly the next day. As we started our journey, we noticed the dashboard was indicating one of the new tires was losing air and close to flat. We crept our way to Philadelphia and ultimately were stranded in a parking lot as the tire lost all the air. My husband and father-in-law tried to replace the tire with our spare, but couldn't loosen the bolts on the tire between two strong men. We had AAA come out to help and evaluate, and they could not take the bolts off either. They determined the tire was overtightened and couldn't get the tire removed without having it towed to a car garage. Aside from that, it wasn't sealed correctly and that's why it was flat. This set of tires cost us $1000, a vacation get-away, and two good nights of sleep due to a careless job. When we got back to Harrisburg, they fixed the tire free of charge, but the experience left a sour taste in our mouth. Quality: 1/5 Customer Service: 2/5 Value for cost: 2/5 read more

I have a 2023 Nissan Rogue SV and have had 5 oil changes all here in Harrisburg without problems. I went in for oil change/filter/tire rotation. 20 minutes in, service technician comes out to tell me battery was low. No print out and $199 to do so if I wanted that done. Next he comes out holding the screw to my oil pan saying it just fell out and that I needed a new oil pan $459. Says bad design with plastic pan and metal screw. While that may be the case, I nonetheless had to have car towed to Faulkner Nissan as I didnt trust Pep Boys to do any more work. Also told that it would probably happen again within 30k miles. Doug Smith the Service Manager was wonderful but that the damage done was due to over torqueing and that the screw saw stripped and not covered under warranty due to methods used in torque control. $700 later for new oil pan, filter and labor to fix the damage. Asked Faulkner to run battery test, yes you guessed right, no low battery and printout to prove it. Took damaged oil pan and screw back to Pep Boys and most they would due is two free oil changes because I was such a good customer. They were looking up on Google how much torque to apply to this screw. Trust is broken and will never again use this facility. Buyer beware...mid aged woman owner and thought they could get a few more bucks out of me. I will spend the extra money for piece of mind and take my car to the dealer for all services. Pep boys was supposed to do a simple oil change and tire rotation on my wife's jeep. They tightened the oil cap/plug so much that it cracked the oil filter housing assembly. Long story short, the next time my wife drove her vehicle, she had to pull off the road and have her vehicle towed because of the oil lights flashing. After further investigation, we found oil all over our driveway and little oil left in the vehicle. Thankfully she pulled over before the engine was destroyed. Chuck/Tom.... Wow!!!! Long story here but I'll keep it brief. I'm sure if your superiors come and talk to you, you'll have a creative way to explain it away. You better, your job should depend on it. I won't even get into your lack of communication with me...I won't even get into your misdiagnosis with my injector pump, I won't even get into your lack of time management (you had the car for 2.5 days and did nothing). I have 2 major issues. You charged me for a diagnosis to which you could not diagnose my car as there was a brave new communication error with the computer. I paid you for a diagnosis to which there was none... That's thievery. Lastly, Tom, wow man, the way you patronize your customers, that's unforgivable. You raised your voice because you didn't like my line of questioning and my having an opinion. I've been going here 9 years. I don't know why the reviews are so low. When I need a quick oil change or service before a road trip I come here. My usual mechanic doesn't work on weekends, so I'll come here on Sundays if I need quick maintenance or a repair. Even without scheduling an appointment they get things done pretty quick. They quoted me $300+ for a WIPER BLADE REPLACEMENT and a TAIL LIGHT for my inspection to pass.. thinking itd be a quick fix, I went against better judgement and decided to proceed with the service. Then a day later (yes, a two day project for that apparently) they magically find something else wrong which is now bringing my total to $1100. I denied the new issue, but had to still pay $445 (wiper blade, tail light, inspection/emissions) and still fail inspection according to them. When expressing my issues to the man as the front counter he got aggressive and demeaning towards me. I had purchased tires here last fall, with the road hazard, so when I ran over some wood on the highway and ended up with a flat, it was the logical choice that I take it back. I had to make an appointment just to drop off a tire to get fixed. Dropped off at 3 on Saturday, and at 6:45 they called to say it was done, but they closed at 7. I told them I'd be in the following morning. Sunday around 10 I went to pick up my tire. The service paperwork said "no hole, bead unseated". When the tech bright my tire over, it was flat, still. He went out in the shop and started yelling and 15 min later brought it back out with a plugged hole. I went home, put it back on the car, and lowered it off the jack. It sat in the same spot overnight. Monday morning, the tire is flat again. That afternoon I took it back in, and amazing they found another puncture. They installed a second plug, and upon returning it to me, the tech said "I'm gonna cut you a break and not charge you for this. Merry Christmas." ???? Seriously???? It took them three times to get it right, it was all covered under the road hazard to begin with!! I have since been bombarded with emails asking to leave a review of my experience. Today I wrote exactly what I wrote here, 3 different times, because they kept kicking it back saying I "didn't follow the review guidelines". Apparently they only want "positive " reviews. if you are reading this review and considering bringing your car to the crooks at Pep Boys on Jonestown Road, this is your sign to RUN RUN RUN FOR YOUR LIFEEEEE !!!!!! i made the tragic mistake of calling Pep Boys with a suspected battery issue. i already had plans to take my car to Advance Auto Parts to get the battery replaced, but i wanted to get a quote on a new starter just in case that was the issue. mistakenly i gave Pep Boys a shot and spoke to a man named Chuck over the phone who seemed very nice. maybe i am just naive but because he was so friendly i trusted him. he gave me a quote of about $700 for a new starter but told me the problem could very well be my battery and encouraged me to bring my car in so they could perform a very basic $20 test to determine whether or not it was a battery or starter problem. I went against my better judgment and, instead of towing my car to Advance Auto Parts, had AAA take it to Pep Boys for the $20 test Chuck had advised over the phone. A day later, I get a call from a man named Tom who was rude and set off warning bells almost immediately. Keep in mind I am a young woman driving a Mercedes so i am used to crooks like Tom trying to take advantage of me. He proceeds to ask me what was wrong with my car and I explained the issues I'd been having with my battery. After interrupting me repeatedly and barely listening to what I had to say, the crook tries to convince me to spend an additional $100 so they can diagnose my car. At this point i was overwhelmed and agitated so I agreed, but as soon as I hung up I knew I didn't trust them to work on my car or diagnose anything so I immediately called back and denied those services and told them I would be coming to get my keys. he practically begged me to let them work on the car and told me to "sleep on it" and call back in the morning. The next morning I went down there for my keys. Tom was rude and patronizing. I told him I was taking my car to get the battery replaced and he kept insisting that the battery wasn't my issue (yet he couldn't say what the issue was and wanted me to spend more money so they could find out). I asked them to jump start my car so I could drive it up the road to Advance Auto Parts for the new battery. He refused saying they already tried and couldn't get my car to start. To top off? they charged me $53 for a tow evaluation that yielded NO ANSWERS instead of the $20 test i was originally quoted for by Chuck over the phone. I used my last AAA call for a tow truck to come out and take my car to Advance Auto Parts. The tow truck driver jump started my car and it turned over immediately.... I didn't even need the tow so the call was a waste. Drove my car right off the lot after they claimed they could not get it to start. I immediately took it to Advance Auto Parts, they replaced the battery and now my car is running perfectly. TLDR; these guys are crooks and you will leave with more problems than you walked in with. They try taking advantage of young women who they perceive as naive or uninformed about cars. I wasted my time, multiple AAA calls and $53 for absolutely NOTHING!!!! and received rude condescending customer service. Tom thought he could outsmart me and failed. He is also rude to his mechanics, not sure how he still has a job. I wouldn't trust these dudes to move my damn couch let alone work on my perfectly functioning Mercedes Benz. Definitely wouldn't recommend coming here for an engine fix EVER!! I had to do a timing belt kit which came with a waterpump and it was gonna a be maybe at worst 2 days. Welp that turned into what's going to be 3 weeks cause they bent 2 valves off my 3rd cylinder. Good luck trying to get updates unless you call them cause they said the same could of would should of bullshit over and over again for the past 3 weeks!! I would not recommend this pep boys location for anything beyond basic services. I took my car for inspection the end of June and after $1,000 worth of work including two new tires my car was ready to go. Mind you my car is 10 years old I knew it needed some work to pass inspection so that was acceptable. My issue is as soon as I drove off the lot the low tire icon on my dashboard never went off. i had explained to them this light had been on for months (i checked my tire presure mannually weekly) I asked them to look at the light. My car also decided to drive like the engine was struggling causing the car to jerk at times for the next 3 weeks until I could get it back in. They told me I needed $1,000 more of work including the two tires that they said were good to pass inspection as I only needed back tires to pass initially. According to Chuck from Pep Boys today the car never should have passed in the first place without all 4 tires being replaced. I am frustrated given I could have shopped for deals if i had know I needed 4 tires. When I mentioned my frustration to Chuck about needing $1,000 more of work when it was just in there 3 weeks ago I was told the best they could do was not charge me the labor for the new tire sensor and I was given a 5% discount. Needless to say I will not be going to this pep boys again because it appears only some of the staff know what they're doing. read more

Formerly LOVED Pep Boys. However this time they dropped a huuuuugge bombshell. Heard rumbling while coasting in my 2010 RAV4 SUV. Chuck was very kind to ride with me to hear the problem. He called it correctly saying it was my ball bearings. However, once checking it out, they claimed not to see/feel any "play". So Chuck said I needed tires and advised that I buy some. "Maybe that would solve the problem", he said. So I did. $700 later problem still existed. Took it back. They said to take it to the dealer. Dealer charged me $113 to confirm the ball bearings and said the job would cost $1600+. If Chuck and the gang didnt want to assist me with the clearly diagnosed problem, they simply should have said they could not help me. I feel slighted, undermined, and cheated. I went in for a new battery for my suv. Price I was quoted online was $30 under what thelrice in the store was. The difference turned out to be the price increase the service department charges for moving a battery from the parts department to the service department. So I bought the battery directly, walked it to the service department. They installed it. That went fine. They upselled me on wiper blades. I needed them, and had enough money to buy them, so I did. I get my vehicle back, and the engine management warning light is on. It wasn't on when I took it in. Went back inside and had them look at it. Turns out when they replaced the battery, they bent one of connectors for the battery. So they replaced it. The light went off. YAY, right?? Wrong. I went to the store, came back out and started my vehicle to have the same sensor light come back on. I called the store back the next day. To make appointment for them to fix what they broke on my vehicle. The guy who answered the phone had the audacity to tell me that my alternator might be going out. (I'm the daughter and granddaughter of mechanics,. I KNOW that with how weak my battery was before it was replaced, if the alternator was indeed going out, my vehicle wouldn't have started). So I drove it to work that day, and went to new scheduled appointment the next day. I get there to be informed that the store rule had changed since I bought my battery. Now you are no longer allowed to buy a battery at parts and have service department install it. Ok, fine. So , on my way to pep boys the warning light had gone off. Cool. I went to the appointment any way to make sure nothing was actually wrong with my engine. They look at the vehicle and have the audacity to again say the alternator is going out. Told me I had 2 weeks before that would happen. Said they tested it, and it wasn't testing at good numbers. Volunteered to fix the problem, for over $800. I declined. I felt that they were trying to get one over on me, since I'm a female. So I took it to another mechanic for a 2nd opinion. Turns out there's NOTHING wrong with the alternator. The light only came on since the battery connector was damaged when the battery was replaced. Which pep boys broke in the first place. Scam artists. Liars. Thieves. Just because I'm a woman, they thought I new nothing, and tried to get me to replace a part that didn't need to be replaced. And make a tidy profit in the process. Do not go here. read more

I made an appt to get a simple headlight replaced. I get there and am told it's a 45 min wait and the price was $14 more than the price the website said. This isn't the first time this had happened. I made the mistake of giving the place a second chance since they are under new management. The guy a the register didn't care or apologize. I'm unsure as to why they pretend you actually have an appt when you really don't, based on what the guys said anyway. I went to Jiffy Lube down the road and they were more than happy to do the 5 min job on the spot for less money. I have no idea how this place stays in business... read more

I had never been a Pep Boys regular until I had to maintain 2 cars and the costs started to build up. Recently, I had 3 flats in 1 week so I decided to bite the bullet and see if Pep Boys was on par with other places for simple stuff. Turns out I shouldn't have blown them off so fast. They are pretty quick and reliable and I've found that they are probably the cheapest option around when it comes to replacing/fixing tires. My second car is a tiny commuter car and I had a flat in 1 tire. I went to Morno right around the corner from my home and they wanted to charge me $90 plus labor for a new tire after they couldn't fix it. I got the heck out of there and decided to try Pep Boys. The woman there agreed it was ridiculous to pay so much for such a small tire, they had one for $45, a total of $60 with labor. Everyone there is helpful and surprisingly cheery seeing the type of place it is, with customers coming in with car problems. I was surprised at how willing they are to help you when you can. Even if they seem like they are all over the place, they have the intake and processing of your car down to a science. Definitely organized confusion. Pep Boys may not be the cleanest or most organized place but they get the job done fast, cheap and right the couple times I've been there. read more

The manager here is top notch. I had a day of running around looking for a particular item. I purchased from the store across the river to find it was missing parts. Took it back got another, and it was missing parts. I finally went to this Colonial Park location and the only box they had was missing parts. I was not looking for anything but a return at this point. The manager came up, and said he wanted to make it right and upgraded me to a much nicer item for the same price. Very slow service. I made an appointment online at least 24 hours in advance, and even though my car was pulled into the shop within 10 minutes, it took over 2 hours to do an oil change and routine state inspection. I heard another woman in the waiting room complaining that she had been waiting for 3+ hours for a battery change, although it didn't sound like she had an appointment, only called ahead of time to check their availability. I expected this shop to be busy due to its central location on Jonestown Road, but this is ridiculous. I've had identical work done faster at a tiny Valvoline with limited staff. The employees who were standing at the front desk when I entered did not acknowledge me while I stood there clearly waiting to be checked in, and went about their business for several minutes without so much as a "I'll be with you in a minute". A few weeks ago I had a flat tire. I thought I'd take the initiative to have it fixed immediately to take the burden off of my husband. On the recommendation of our neighbor, my oldest son and I took the car to Pep Boys. I was told that the wait would be about 30 minutes to an hour, but most likely only 30 minutes. (He was wrong....) We walked into the waiting area and noticed that we were able to see the mechanics working on all of the cars. The group of mechanics seemed to be friendly with each other with the exception of the one guy who kept dropping 'the F bomb' numerous times while my son and another little girl (with her daddy) were within ear shot. Not cool! The wait was a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes. My car was on the jack for about 30 of those as the person who was trying to find the leak had no luck whatsoever, ... so he had to remove it from the rim and still had a hard time. He didn't seem in any kind of a hurry as he sprinkled water over the tire looking and looking for the leak (Hubby said that he should have dunked it under the water to find it.) After an hour of waiting my son was getting a little impatient and when he saw that the car was done, he gently prompted me to check and see if we would be able to leave. The guy at the counter seemed ticked off when I asked him if we were free to go. When it came time to pay the bill, I was told that I would need to pay around $89 as opposed to the much lower price I was quoted before they started the repair. I could have tolerated the waiting and even the cursing mechanic, but the guy's attitude at the repairs counter really threw me off. He made it seem as though I was inconveniencing him by asking if we were free to go. The only positive thing I have to say about the experience is that the coffee was good. :) read more

Overall poor experience. Made an appointment online on June 29th to have state inspection and emissions completed. Appointment was at 10 am and I dropped it off a smidgen early. The staff already seemed overloaded and stressed out at this point. Dropped off no problem. Heard nothing by 4:30 pm, could NOT get through on the phone. I allowed it to bounce for over 7 minutes before getting annoyed and driving back down to check in the status of the inspection. There was one gentleman answering the phone and one of the service guys ringing someone out. He finished with his customer and stood there finishing the paperwork for well over 5 minutes before acknowledging me waiting. He eventually got my info and said that there was one vehicle in front of me and he could swap the two if need be. I appreciated the offer but declined as this isn't the proper thing to do. He said the inspection takes 2 hours and they'd be in touch, so I went home. Another 3 hours go by and it's almost 8 o'clock. I call again, actually able to speak with someone who proceeds to tell me "we were really busy today and didn't get to it. We have it on the lift for first thing tomorrow." I wait until 10:30 am the next morning and have to give them a call yet again to find out "oh yeah, it's done." I go pick up my truck and I believe Mike rings me out, he looks stressed as all beat, nice enough guy though. As I'm checking out I get the message saying my vehicle is ready. I see a few things stating that the online system has issues, get it fixed or turn it off. There were over 10 open appointments when I made mine. This also doesn't address the phone issues. I will still continue to buy parts from Pep Boys due to good selection and competitive prices but I can safely say that I will never use this service department again nor recommend it to anyone else. read more

Service Work Order #2221977 I'm very disappointed and upset that I am writing this as I have previously received good customer service from pep boys store id #0017. I wish my most recent visit was the same but unfortunately that is not the case. I brought my car in Friday 6/19/15 at 6:39 pm to have new wheels placed on my 2010 mazda 3. The service rep who completed the job was Timothy Staver and he was very helpful and answered all my questions. I was happy with the way my new wheels looked but was concerned when I got in my car to leave as the check tire pressure alert light was on. I exited my vehicle and went back to Timothy to share my concern and Timothy told me to just drive a little while and the light would turn off but if not to come back to the shop. I went from the shop to my house which is less then 10 minutes away. I received a call from Timothy a little later informing me he forgot to give me back my bolts and told me to stop by the shop the following day to pick them up. As it rained all day Saturday 6/20/15 the only time I drove my car was when I left my house to come back to pep boys to pick up my bolts and then return home. This Sunday morning 6/21/15 I saw that not only was my check tire pressure light still on but my front drivers side tire now had a bubble. I mistakenly assumed I would be able to go back to pep boys and have the problem easily solved but this was not the case. Phillip Raker who was working the desk, and the same man who had just saw me there Saturday when I picked up my bolts, and was the same man who signed me in Friday when I 1st brought my car in would not even consider the fact that perhaps something unintentional could have happened in the shop during the removal of my tires, removal of my stock wheels from my tires, the swap of my tpms sensors, & the rebuild of my new wheels onto my tires and back onto my car. As far as Philip was concerned and the way he explained it to me is that I either curbed it or hit a pothole or something but it was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING they did. I'm not a believer in coincidence so I am not convinced that the tires I've been driving with on the exact same roads I've been driving on for years decided to coincidently bubble less than 48 hours after I left the shop in which my car received work on the wheels and tires. If I came to the shop 2 days ago and had work on my headlights then I would not show back up if a sudden issue with my tire appeared but the simple fact is my tires were fine, i came in on 6/19/15 to have my wheels swapped and a tire balance performed and less then 48 hours later my previously perfectly fine tire now had a bubble and the check tire pressure light was still on. I do not think anything was intentionally done to my tires but at the very least I would expect an offer to have it looked at or looked into if a problem that was not there before I came in appeared right after I received service. I can assure you I did not curb my tire or go racing over any potholes. As previously stated my car had very little movement after I left the shop Friday evening. I've enjoyed the service I've previously recieved at pepboys and I am hoping the store will enact good customer service and look further into my matter instead of what happened today when I was immediately told it was something I did and then was told I could either purchase a new tire from the store or I could go somewhere else to purchase my tire as their store does not carry my brand. I will never have service performed on my car at this pep boys again. I dont think I'll even go back to buy an air fresher as they might ring it up at the register wrong and then tell me its somehow my fault! read more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE!! First thing I didnt appreciate was the manager calling me an idiot. Another thing I didn't like was that he argued with me in an aggressive manner in front of other customers. He wouldn't hand me back my keys and continued to belittle me and tell me how much I didnt know about cars, when all that I wanted was for them to give me my keys back and declined there requested services. Using profanity and asking where I worked all which was irrelavant to my service. I told him how he treated me was bad business and that he really could use a customer service class. The original issue was I took my car to get the air conditioning fixed it was blowing out hot air. Took it 2 weeks ago. They ran all the test came back that it was just low on freon. 190 dollars later and literally took about 10 mins for them to do all of this and fix it, I drove home with the air conditioning working. I leave for a business trip dont drive my car for the next week until I get home. Aircondition doesn't work. Take it back in they re run a diagnostic, which takes them a total of 1.5 hours since the time I checked in, they then tell me that they found a leak and a stone must have went up in there on my drive in the past two weeks and bust it since the last time I had it fixed. I then ask for a refund for the orginally 190 which I paid two weeks ago since they didnt diagnose the problem the correct way the first time, or they put the hole in the car when they made the repair. Either way they didnt fix the issue and it was a terrible experience. The manager also made the comment to me that his store was the most successful in the region, that he doesn't need my business to take it somewhere else. I truly believe it could be one of the highest sales for now because they are ripping people off like this. read more

The Last Straw...Jonestown Road Harrisburg, PA We made an appointment on the phone, hopefully ensuring a timely maintenance visit...wrong. We were present at 9:00 for two oil changes and inspections and were told that 2 cars would take 2 hours to complete. The first car was not taken back unti 9:25. It took over 1 and a half hours for one vehicle. The waiting area was dirty, the children's toys were filthy, the water fountain had an unidentifiable, dried substance, and my wife refused to used the restroom--dirty. read more

My husband went for an inspection. While he was waiting in line, 2 people walked in behind him. They took those two people first for inspections. When my husband finally was waited on, they told him that their schedule was full for inspections that day. Really??? He was there first and then was told to come back another day! Nope. Always a positive experience but get there EARLY. This location is recommended for their customer service. I can say with confidence i would drive all the way to this shop for service if the other pep boys aren't living up to this store's standards. Because of that, get there early, a lot of fans like this location. read more
