I got some brake specials over online and it was time to get 4 discs and pads replaced on my car. My independent guy was fully booked for a week ahead so long story short I went to Peptards. I saved about 10% on coupons but got some real cheap-crap quality job on my car. I hear a continuous metal to metal sound when I drive the car. It sounds like a turning train all the time. I found a nail in my tire and had it plugged. I commute from the Bronx to New Jersey and knew I had to get the tire replaced immediately. I stopped by Pep Boys on Sr 17, on Tuesday morning, and was greeted by Billy, who was very friendly and upbeat. He assured me that he would test all tires and be able to replace any damaged ones within twenty minutes. Billy was honest, he didn't try to sell me multiple tires - he told me that they were all good except for the one that had been plugged. He changed the tire in under 30 minutes and I was able to get to work with only a small delay. I had seen the initial reviews of this location and I was hesitant but I am glad that I stopped by and was serviced by Billy. I will definitely be returning for future needs. I really like this Pep Boys. I went in for an oil change and a new tire. Service was really fast, despite my being very late due to a debris spill that tied up traffic for hours on Rte 17. They gave me a coupon for $10 off the oil change and let me know that my rim was bent. No high pressure sales or scare tactics used. In fact, I thought everyone was very pleasant and professional. I will say this about my recent Pep Boys experience. They stepped it up and made it right. I did file a complaint and they called me back on a Sunday even to talk about my experience. What I respect most is that they didn't make excuses for their lack of communication. They owned it and took responsibility. I find this to be rare with most complaints as a lot of companies try to put the blame on the customer. Peb Boys here did not. Their regional service manager, Jim, called me and apologized and asked what he could do to make it right. He offered me a partial refund, for which I was gracious for. He even told me he didn't want to give me a coupon or gift card because he wanted me to choose to spend my money there again, which I highly respect. I went back in and also received an apology from the Service Manager and Retail Manager and they also owned it. I really appreciate that. It meant a lot. They didn't steal a piece of my car, apparently they fixed it and didn't tell me they did so I made an assumption, which you know what they say about that. but, this goes to the communication breakdown of that day. I think I may be a bit gun shy at first going back but I am willing to give them another shot for making it right and actually carrying and valuing customer feedback. read more

We stopped here to get our four tires replaced. The price was fine, with a 4 for 3 deal on some of the brands featured for sale. The appointment that we made the day before in order to cut the waiting time of being a walk in was a formality, not being taken for twenty minutes later than the appointed time. It took almost two hours for the mechanic to replace all four, balance, and align. Too long, in my opinion. Still with only one mechanic working till 10am, and the others standing around drinking coffee and BSing till it's punch-in time...I'd expect as much. The job was done right, and the price was fine...but the fact that they overbook the early appointments and make you wait even when you MAKE an appointment is lame. Have another mechanic on duty, for Christ's sake (or the sake of your customers, more like). read more

I've wrote a review on here before explaining how bad the store manager's attitude is, but WOW. I was told to do my alignment myself after saying mine wasn't done right (because it wasn't) I have proof of it being done wrong, with dashcam footage and my own alignment rack at work. I've called HR and corporate for compensation about my wheels being damaged from this alignment as well, and all I've been getting is looped around to waiting for someone to call me to discuss my case. Unsatisfied customer, they are untrustworthy and unprofessional. Mid covid I came to this location for an oil change, masks were required yet the sales associate Hugo thought he was above this and was wearing his around his neck. I asked simply if he could put on his mask and he smirked and chuckled-still no mask. I complained to customer service-no return call or follow up. Strike one. Last weekend i dropped off my car again for a wheel alignment-scheduled online for a one year alignment and applied a coupon. Drop off-no issues. Pick up was where it went downhill. I told Hugo (go figure) I would not be waiting for my vehicle at the location , however after I went to eat I came back to the store early. When the mechanic came in he approached Hugo and said "I finished but it's still shitty, should I go take it for a drive still"... unfortunately for the mechanic he did not realize I was the owner of the car standing in the waiting area. Sure enough he proceeded to go to my vehicle and take it for a "test drive". When he returned my car I confronted him and he noted he didn't think anything was wrong with the car and that he was saying something else was "shitty". I know exactly what I heard so I went back inside and Hugo dismissed my complaint and told me that I misunderstood and said the car was still "shaky". How can the car still be shaking when at that point the mechanic hasn't even driven it yet AND the mechanic confirmed he said something was shitty but was trying to pass it off as something else. I know what I heard, yet no one took responsibility except a separate mechanic who worked on my sisters car who overheard and felt bad and wanted to make it right. (Thank you by the way to that gentleman) at the end of it , they didn't apply my coupon or give me the right service, the gave me the 3 month guarantee. At that point I just wanted to leave as I was upset and didn't have any confidence in the work they claimed to have done. They had no idea why the car was shaking still when I asked so basically I paid 120 dollars for nothing. I followed up with an email to customer service asking for a return call so we can discuss this manner and nothing. Strike two and already done with these people. I gave them the benefit of the doubt initially but this was just plain wrong and left me feeling uncomfortable and upset. Please be more responsible and professional and acknowledge when a customer has a complaint, especially when the employee made a mistake. You should never say anyone's car is shitty especially after you have just serviced it. I trusted in this location but will no longer bring my car here and neither should anyone else with the service I received. read more

I saw what looked to be a nail in my tire late Saturday afternoon around 4:45 and was glad that Pep Boys were open until 7. Upon arrival I was quoted about $36 to repair the tire. Once the car was on the lift I went outside to observe from afar. I saw the mechanic and cashier spinning the tire and chuckling.. could have been about anything but it didn't seem like good news. I was told the puncture was too close to the side of the tire so they couldn't repair and I would have to replace the tire, to which I said no problem. I was then told the tires were not in stock so they could put on my spare if I wanted to. I declined and asked how long it would take for tires to arrive if I ordered, and was told Tuesday and I also declined. I've shopped around for tires for my car and am aware that if takes a few days to arrive to a place of it choosing and was prepared to buy new tires, but it seemed like the employee didn't know how to plug a tire (and was laughing about it), suggested that I get new tires, then when they realized they'd have to order tires that they didn't really think about upselling me properly. I went to another place the next day and they fixed it for $31 and said I didn't need new tires yet (the tires are 16 months old with 10k miles on them. I was happy to find Pep Boys and that they replace belts, hoses, brakes, radiator and coolant flush, etc., was hoping to have a good experience but unfortunately it didn't turn out so well. read more

This place was good and bad. Needed some new tires on a Sunday and they were one of the only places open. They said the wait for my car would be about 30 minutes. They finally took it in about an hour later. Which is fine, I always expect an underestimation for these sorts of places/things. So when I see my car go in I decide to run over to Wendy's quick cause at the point I'm starving. The guy had told me it would take about 30 minutes and had my number. So I get back about 15 minutes later and they said the were waiting for me because they had a question. I said great of coarse when I left and he's like oh no it's fine. We don't mind.... yes. You guys don't mind but now my car isn't even started and I've been here for 2 hours when I was told a 30 minute wait. Finally an hour later they were done. So it took about 3 hours total. They are responsive because they make a 10 percent commission on mechanical work done. Ask them. But this commission incentivized them to do work on my car I didn't need for another 5,000 miles. I've seen some poor reviews here, and I myself wrote a 1 star review for the Hackensack location a few months back. But every time I come to the Hasbrouck Heights Pep Boys, it's a great experience. I needed a new battery quick as mine was essentially dead. I called up the store to see if the could squeeze me in and they did. First they did a free battery test to confirm that was the issue. I got a great deal on a battery with free installation, all in under an hour. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable, and my brief wait took place in a room with TV and complimentary coffee. I definitely recommend for batteries as the pricing and timing could not be beat. 5 stars, I'll be back for sure. read more

Im a little confused in the car department but every question i asked was answered professionally & it was most helpful. Specifically, the general manager, guary. He was the most polite most professional man i encountered. He was the one that greeted me & asked me what i needed help with. He was seriously a life savor. The idiot literally admitted it would cost less anywhere else. Matt then attempted to belittle me and it was only when he realized other customers could hear me call him out it, did he suddenly slashed the price of a service I should not, and at ANY other place, would not have had to pay for, again he admitted that himself. I came in here with expectations set low.. really low. I left extremely surprised. Read on for more.. My trip to Pep Boys was caused by my car not starting on Sunday. My friend who starts it for me (It can't afford the high NYC rent, so it rests in a lot in the Garden State) had to jump start it and even ran it for me for 45 minutes. I decided on Tuesday, I would commute in from the city and get it checked out by a local shop. He recommended Pep Boys, Josh credit for the assist. I set a 3:15 appointment. I was coming from the other side of 17, making a U-Turn onto the South side and I actually missed the entrance and pulled into TGIF next door. Realizing they weren't connected, I saw this as a harbinger of things to come as I had to make two more u-turns to get back the entrance (things I don't miss about NJ). I was prepared for a long drawn out wait, based on the reviews here. I was ready to, quoting Sonny Corleone, "Go to the matresses". I packed a bottle of water, a kindle, my iphone with headphones for music, and an Ipad as I read they had wifi avaialble. Here is an actual time line of the services. 3:15- I stroll in, announce myself to the guy at the counter. He has my name on the screen, I tell him my problem. I hand him my keys. 3:17- I go to sit down in the waiting room, making small talk with a truck driver who was complaining about his car part as I feigned interest. 3:19- A nice mechanic approaches me and hands me my keys, telling me to pull the car around back. 3:21- I'm parked right up along the entrance to the Pep Boys Service area. He asks me to pop the hood. 3:23- Two mecahnics are looking at a diagnostic of my car. Announce that I need a new battery. 3:25- I'm at the front desk picking a new battery and getting a price quote. 3:27- On the phone with my parents in the waiting room 3:35- Mechanic signals to me that he is done and points to the front desk. 3:40- I've paid ($140 for the part with a 3 year warranty/labor included) for my new battery and I walk out the door. 3:41- I'm at my car, windows rolled down. Fastest mechanic in the east no where in site. I wanted to thank him. I wanted to give him a high five. I never had the chance. A battery diagnostic and battery replacement in 26 minutes, WOW. Sign me up for some of that again. read more

I leave for an hour and when I come back my car was never brought in. Then I had to ask and then they bring car in. Today, they brought in car to shut me up and car just sat there. Finally they brought the vehicle in for work, short time later they said it was done and there would be no charge. Next morning I walked out to my vehicle with a flat tire. Stay away from this overpriced Pep Boys. Here is my experience. My front power windows won't roll up and it required changing a regulator and motor. This was one of the closest stores to me and it was a Saturday so I went in there. They said there is a $45 fee to inspect and assess what needs to be replaced. Came back and said it needs a new regulator and motor as I suspected. The total estimated cost for replacement was around $700 ($309 for parts, $300 for labor, $45 assessment fee and $35 shop fee). I looked up Amazon & Ebay, called Midas, Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts and Napa in the area and everyone quoted me somewhere between $100-$120 for the parts. Midas wanted $157 for the labor and whatever the part costs. Long story short, Pep Boys wanted $300 for a part that only costs $100. And $300 for labor (3 hours) for something that should cost $100-$150 max. No one had the part in stock so I couldn't have got it done that day itself and I was in a hurry. So I ended up paying $600 for a $250 (max) repair (to be honest they waived the $45 initial assessment fee and gave a 15% discount on the labor which brought my total from $696 to $599). And to be fair they said if I can get the part they will only charge the labor, even though that was more than twice what anyone wanted. If you have the time and can buy the parts online, go to a local mechanic who can do it cheaper. Unfortunately I didn't have the time on my side and I just have a knack of getting bad experiences with auto repair shops, almost always. read more

Tried this place as recommended by my fleet service contract. Dropped the car off and waited and waited until someone finally came around and said I was at the wrong register . I proceed to go to where he wanted me to go and someone else tries to take care of me who did not know how to write a service order. Everyone speaks Spanish in front of you. Don't they know that is rude and wrong. I specifically told them to check my tires since part of the service was a tire rotation and what do you know the tire indicator light comes on. I go to pick up the car after several calls to them after waiting all day without any updates on why it took 8 hours to fix, and again everyone is waiting around and the help is no where to be found. They finally come around not knowing what to do and after 30 minutes I get out of there and i drive away and the low tire indicator comes on. I call and after 5 minutes if being transferred around this guy Francis comes on and says ". What do you want me to do !" Call in the morning or come by" Don these people think we have nothing better to do ?? The service is horrible , the staff is rude and could not find them in the store , not trained and speak Spanish to one another in front of you , making you feel you are in the wrong country. ( how do I know that they are not talking about me ?) GET REAL HELP TRAIN THEM MAKE THEM SPEAK ENGLISH FILLOW UP WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS ITS VERY SIMPLE GREET THE CUSTOMER ANTICIPATE THEIR NEEDS TAKE THEM TO THE ITEM THANK THE CUSTOMER FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS THE BILL FOR MY SERVICE WAS $ 1200 Never again this place Just look at all the customers waiting , they all seem aggravated and disgusted . read more

Came in for four tires on my Dodge Ram 1500 . Got there at 3:00 and I decided to wait it's only 4 tires. they got the truck in at 3:35 , The time now as I write this is 5:14 and still waiting for them to put the new tires on . Took them an hour and 45 minutes for them to take old tired off and put new ones on ... Almost two and a half hours for four new tires .... And still waiting .... The service here is way to slow .... Seems like they don't care how long you have to wait . 5:26 still waiting ... Unbelievable ... Neve coming here again . After 2 hours and 35 minutes to get 4 new tires the truck is finally done . I've had everything from a major brake job, engine flush, oil change, car rotation, power steering fluid, new battery install, and it's a relief when I hear that they identified a problem I didn't know about--so I get it fixed on the spot. Their people are true professionals and pricing is competitive with other businesses. Plus they have a rewards program and it adds up. read more

Not a fan of this store. Even today, with the General Manager in store and on the floor, the employees are screaming back and forth in Spanish (even though they all can clearly speak English fluently), playing on their phones (one girl using her phone as a mirror to check her hair every 10 minutes), joking around and all while I'm waiting around 90+ minutes (so far) for a simple oil change. Even now, while I wait (and told I was next in line) there's a tech leaning against the tire racks in the front of the store flirting with a one of his female co-workers. This store is just a joke, and the work ethic from these people is extremely poor. Hopefully someone higher up in the Pep Boys chain of command will see this and send a Regional Manager out here to straighten these people out. Hopefully...but very doubtful. read more

Where do I start.. My cylinder 4 went off which meant my engine check went off. Went Sunday and spent 3 hours just for them to get a diagnostics not even fix it. Showed up Tuesday to get the stuff actually fixed and spent 3 1/2 hours there I was there when the store wasn't even opened anymore at 9 PM. They replaced my OEM parts with faulty aftermarket so now the problem wasn't resolved as soon as I left the problem came right back. I then went back Wednesday, they replaced the faulty spark plugs which took another 3 hours. Now Thursday comes, everything was going fine then I get home engine check goes off again so I took it back there and they said leave it over night you'll be a priority and we'll pay for your Uber's to work and to us after work. Sounds like a good deal right? Wrong. I get there Friday and my car is in the same spot I left it in Thursday night. So not only did they have my car for a whole day they didn't even remember it was there, they never even ordered the part to replace the other faulty part they put in. I was then told Friday take the car home I'll order your part tomorrow (I won't name names) then no one called and it's already 12 PM on Saturday (today 8/31/19) so I call. Not only did they not get the part but no one could even give me a courtesy call. I was told they won't get my part till next week now.. so this is just trickling into another weeks worth of frustrations. So I had my vent session with a manager of the store and basically I had smoke blown up my rear end. But! Victor who is below a manager position got my part today and hopefully all this stuff will be taken care of. Cesar offered to cut my price in half for my frustrations as well. This past Saturday we had the most awful experience ever at this location! My fiancée and I bought both our cars there for an oil change and this was our experience: 1. We were told the wait time was about 30 minutes. No problem. We arrived and they took our keys at about 1045am. We didn't end up leaving until about 130pm. 2. When they gave me my keys first, the low tire light was on. I bought this to the mechanics attention and he told me I had to drive on it for awhile. I looked at the tires and they didn't look full. They also didn't look like that when I bought the jeep in. I drove around the parking lot for 15 minutes and the light still didn't go off. The mechanic all but rolled his eyes at me and told me I had to drive at high speeds for it to go off. Weird right? I've never been told that before and knew he was blowing smoke up my ass. I decided to save myself the argument and go to the gas station to do it myself. When I went to the gas station, I found a screw in my tire that I know for a FACT wasn't there before I bought my jeep in. So now I have to replace my tire because this shop destroyed it. 3. My fiancé asked for an oil change and a tire rotation. They didn't even bring his car into the garage until 12:50pm. They had the car on the lifts for all of 3 minutes before they bought it down to bring it out of garage. When my fiancé approached mechanic to tell him he forgot to rotate tires, the mechanic said he wasn't going to do it because it wasn't necessary. Rob had been driving on those tires for over a year and knows a lot about cars. He knew they needed to be rotated so he went inside to talk to general manager who was as dismissive as the mechanic. At the end of the conversation the manager told the mechanic to rotate them because rob was right. The minute the manager walked away the mechanic yelled at rob for telling his boss. Rob was infuriated. Once they pulled the car out of the garage rob parked in the front lot and decided to make sure everything was done correctly. He popped his hood only to find none of the fluids were filled. He went inside to complain and the manager just shrugged at him and told him that if he wanted he could purchase the fluids and do it himself. WHAT?!? That's the shittiest customer service I've ever seen. Rob bought all the fluids and have himself his own oil change right in the parking lot while swearing at this entire store. We will never be returning to this establishment and a poor review will be posted on every single webpage I know. It was a waste of money, time and all of my patience. We will be taking our business elsewhere and warning everyone we know about this pepboys. If I could give them less than one star I would. read more

I will never return to this location. I came here today for a tire rotation (simple). I was told that there were two customers ahead of me and there would be an hour wait. I asked how long it would take if I was to come back later in the week with an appointment and was told a half hour. For the sale of time and not having to return I decided to wait. I have now been waiting for over an hour and a half and my car still has not been taken in. I have asked twice in the past 20 minutes when my car will be taken in and I was told "I'm next" the first time and the second time was told the same thing along with "I told you there would be an hour wait." I was also told that "I only have one guy working and he's slow." How unprofessional. I'll never return here and I am contemplating waking out today if my car isn't taken within the next 5 minutes. Around August of 2018 I went to get my rotors, brakes and calipers done for my Honda, I was told that everything was replaced, fast forward May 2019 my brakes started screeching so I took it to a friend of my mike who is a mechanic and he took a look at them. He told me that nothing was changed out, same rusted pieces were left on and they even stripped one of my lug nuts and kept it on there as if nothing was wrong. I've been waiting for 1 hour 40 minutes. My car is still in the same spot. The guy in the counter has been saying my car is the next in line for over an hour now.
