God i wish I checked the Yelp reviews. I made the mistake of only looking at Google. 4.9 rating with 1200 reviews. But only 3.3 rating with 37 reviews on Yelp. Fishy as hell. Bots or bought. They bait and switched me. They nickle and dimed. They are so so shady. They didn't want to give me the quoted price I was told. Twice I called to confirm price. Its even listed on the website. One guy even tried to tell me I was at the wrong place when i told him the quoted price. That i called the wrong number when i showed him my call record. LOL. I called it right in front of him as he watched his co worker confirm the location. They Upped the price on me when I dropped the car off, twice. Then they upped the price again when I picked up the car. Despite the twice confirmed on the fone quoted price. Despite the plainly stated website price. I was left scratching my head, and was really glad I ran through the numbers. They tried to say it was the taxes and fees. Nope, taxes and fees dont amount to an extra 22%. They tried to say it was cuz my car needed extra material. Nope, i drive a compact. They tried to say i got the proper "discount". Nope, "discount" + taxes + fees absolutely did not add up. The kicker? After i thought that was all cleared up, I asked about the veteran discount. They tried to claim ignorance. When the manager verified Mavis has vet discount. He gave it to me but not before again raising the price higher than the quoted price. How does that make sense?. Yup. The one I twice confirmed on the fone. The one plainly stated on the website. The one he swore up and down was wrong and I was at the wrong shop. Really good thing I was checking the invoices. According to him you can't combine discount with the internet promo price. Fine. But it was shady AF to 1. Hide that from me and then 2. Switch it to the worse discount. Shady. This is absolutely in my top 3 worst transactions in my life. The kicker? It took 2 hours for an oil change and tire rotation. Two freaking hours. I don't even trust they actually did rotation. Would you trust them after how shady they were? Obviously he was trying to finesse his revenue VS shop hours. I would give them negative stars if I could. 1 star is being generous. I've dealt with shady businesses and shady characters but never have i had to deal with one tried to pull so many greasy tricks every step of the way. Over such a small amount. I try to understand why they would be so dirty. Did they think I was stupid? Naive? Was it a race thing? My guess is they're worried about their margins over labor hours. And that they do this to a lot of people. Hoping they don't notice or don't have the energy/time to deal with it over $15. I guess overall it was a good thing. I had been planning to get several other services done costing a few hundred dollars. I wont be scammed for a larger amount nor will i be giving them more business. I wont ever be going back to a Mavis. Ive learned this behavior isnt isolated to a single location. I won't be getting oil changes, alignments, tires, repairs, or anything else from this trash brand. If Mavis has a deal, I'll always remember it's a trick. When people talk about the shady mechanic trope, it's Mavis. I'll have to be sure to monitor my credit card that they actually fixed it. read more

Came in for 2 rear tires. Came out with 2 new rear tires and broken fins on my center console A/C / Heater vent. One was completely gone. The other was detached at one end. I suspect someone messed with my vent-mounted cellphone-mount at the shop and accidentally broke it. Whoever broke it took the loose fin out of the car and left the phone-mount on the seat. Nobody at the shop said a single thing at pickup. Called Mavis hotline and was routed to Corporate. They reviewed footage but couldn't conclude a Mavis tech broke it; because (obviously) garage cameras can't see that well into vehicle interior during service. The replacement vent from Lexus is $300! Plus labor, it's like a $400 problem. I replaced it myself with a used part off eBay. I asked the Rep to cover at least my used part; even that was too much for them. Offered a measly $100 ...store credit - not even cash. Unbelievably poor experience. I just came in for 2 tires. There was no reason to mess with my vent whatsoever. read more

BEWARE - extreme overcharge attempts. Purchased 4 new tires on a Mercedes. While on lift, I was contacted and alerted the car needs a full rear brake job (rotors, pads, labor) - and given a quote of $1,800. When I balked, the technician said "is it the money"? He was probably going to offer a special reduction or "coupon" to save me $100 or something like that.. I know this because this is their MO and it's happened before. But I did not give him the chance and shut it down. I may not be an expert in this area, but $1,800 for rear brakes seemed extreme - maybe it was the Ridgewood/Mercedes/Wife's car classic rip off attempt. I have been overcharged by Mavis prior (different location) and had my guard up. I had the brake job completed at a reputable shop for $637 plus tax. Mercedes OEM parts. I believe Mavis does good work, but their first objective is to overcharge, significantly in some cases, leveraging convenience of your car already being there and in-progress. Do yourself a favor - if Mavis alerts you that work is needed, ask for a quote and then seek same from other providers. This is a recurring behavior from Mavis and seems to be their DNA - first objective seek additional work to significantly overcharge. read more

Stay away from this Mavis. We used to be long time Mavis customer. But this branches manager dee is utterly unprofessional. We had gotten 4 Pirelli P Zeros installed and by a few months later we noticed that they had installed one of the tires inside out. This is is such an amateur move, not sure how a supposed tire expert company can make such a move. When I contacted the store the manager did not even apologize for the mistake and just nonchantly said being it in and we will fix it. I use this car to drive my kids around. Did not offer any recourse and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. They do not value their customer and their safety. Definitely stay away. There are other tire shops around skip these clowns. read more

Cory and Victor at Ridgewood MAVIS on Franklin and Maple are terrific. I came in for tires, and when they were done they asked me if I had noticed any sounds from the car on the road. I had experienced wheel noise on the highway, and they said they would look at the bearings. They did the bearings, cleaned up brake rotors while they were in there, did a great job. My car is over 20 years old so the job was a little tricky but Cory and Victor were always transparent as to my options and their recommendations. They were very fair about the price as well. Very helpful and polite, a wonderful experience overall. I highly recommend! read more

I was there 2/2023 and would never go back again. I made an appointment 1 month before and when I arrived they could not find my tires and made me wait a couple of hours to get organized. A couple of hours later tires were installed and they scratched my new truck tire rims. I was very upset and they did not care and were very rude. I call in advance to see if they can plug a tire. They say yes right away. I send an employee there (who is not free) and once he is there, there is drama. They say the left tire had something (which it did not) and they want to make him wait for an hour since someone came in and got a full set of tires. directed to ridgewood mavis i was lied to about my service. i went in for two new tires and came out with charges on the service i did not want. i was told that someone called me for my approval and that was a lie. i am the only number on the count and the service person insisted that he called me. what he did not know is my phone verbally records calls and there was nothing. watch out for what you are sold. when i called them to discuss the issue there was dead silence on the phone. to all who use this service location get the exact amount and service you will be charge. they ripped me off and i am sure others as well. extremely disappointing. read more

Brought my truck in to have new tires installed. Not only did it take 3hrs (they brought the truck into the bay as I was being picked up) The terrible technician they had working there damaged all the wheels. They told me to take them to a repair place, came out terrible. Now after 2 months I get an update telling me to bring them back to the repair place or just deal with it. The store on Franklin somehow managed to put a giant gash into the side of my car. They wanted to fix it but I brought it to my body shop so they could tell me how it should be fix correctly. I got an estimate which was approved by Mavis. They told me to call a certain Louis in the corporate office who would pay once the work was complete. However, that's not how it worked out. I had to pay for it and now, over 2 weeks later have still not been reimbursed the $960 I laid out for their damage they caused. I've spent much of my valuable time tracking them down and trying to find out where my "check in the mail" is to say nothing of all the time the repair took. If they are not outright shysters they sure don't have their act together. I've been extraordinarily patient this whole time but now that they have peaked my ire they are treating me like I'm the bad guy here. I recommend going somewhere more professional and more legit. read more

Took 2 different vehicles to 2 different locations to replace tires. The tire pricing and installation were competitive, but in both cases the tried to upsell me for new shocks and brakes. Neither vehicle needed this work and when I declined they immediately dropped the price saying they could give me a "special" price. I'll probably go elsewhere in the future as this practice is "shady" at best and made me uncomfortable. read more

When asked about having service performed was told would have to leave the vehicle because gentleman I spoke with was only one working. Myself being in the car business this seemed a little crazy. 1 out of 3 ain't good! I had a tire repaired there for $20 or so. But I also have a friend whose brake job was quoted $400 and suggested replacing everything (unnecessarily). He took his car to a local mechanic and had the brakes repaired for much less. And yesterday the said they had to replace a tire due to sidewalk damage. Feeling a little cautious,I took the tire to Performance Tire and Wheel - where they found no sidewall damage and actually repaired nothing - they properly mounted and filled the tire with air - leaving me with a fully functional car/tire at NO COST AT ALL. $0. I've come to the conclusion that the policies of Mavis must force their employees to suggest replacement when not entirely necessary. The employees are just following the rules, so it's not their call. Perhaps Mavis is very conservative and puts optimal safety above reasonable cost. And safety is a good thing. read more

My husband had our front brakes done, and as soon as we got the car back, the brakes were squeaking. He brought it back to them and they said they couldn't hear the squeaking. The squeaking was so loud, our neighbor heard it and offered to help us replace them! Will never go back! read more
