Recently I took my car in to get an oil change. Some guy named Enrique said it'd be done in 2 hours. I waited and waited. 6 hours later I called and asked if I could pick it up. I was informed through pictures that my brake pads and rotors were a very low percentage. (which is not a surprise to me because I've never had that issue in the past several years). There's some nice and honest mechanics at Pep Boys . They have a new manager named Craig, and Alfonso I've known him for over a year now. Great guy as well. I also went back to get that tire repaired (see photo) I went shopping around for a good price, at multiple locations. Benny and Aidan both went above and beyond with prompt customer service when you are in a situation you don't want to be in. They tried to help me in the parking lot and eventually jumped it in the garage. I was in and out within an hour which is pretty impressive for an unplanned visit. My daughter's car had low tire pressure, and we found out that there was a nail in the tire. I called them towards the end of the day, around 5:30 pm - and they normally don't take walk-ins past 6pm but Kevin was very kind and said they could take me if I came down right away. The technician immediately located the nail and removed it and patched it up. And, their computer system was down so they kindly provided the service for free. I honestly felt like this moment is a gift from God. What could've been a really complicated or dangerous situation turned out to be perfectly resolved. I visited our local Pep Boys for a pair of windshield wipers, and I left having experienced a level of customer service that seems to be a rarity in retail these days. As I said, I dropped in to get some replacement wipers. Benny was the service provider/staffer who helped me out. He greeted me with a heartfelt welcome and when I told him what I was looking for, he came out to my car to make sure I was asking for the right items. We went back inside, he grabbed the package of blades and said, "I'll take care of it." (I wasn't expecting that.) He even brought along a jug of windshield cleaning fluid and said, "Mind if I top-off the cleaner fluid for you?" In a matter of just a few minutes, he was done -- the blades were on and the fluid holder was full -- and that was that. Throughout our interaction, Benny was courteous, professional and friendly. Like I said: it was the kind of service we don't see enough of these days. P.S. I even offered him a tip, which he turned down. "No thanks," Benny said, "It's my pleasure. I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful Benny and Andrew were to us. My car blew out a tire with myself and 4 of my kiddos in there with me on the freeway. I called before I could get towed to make an appt for the next day. My sister made it to Pepboys before me to talk to them about getting me in right before they closed. They stayed true to their word and got me in to fix my tire. I wasn't anywhere close to home so I would've had to gotten all the way home then all the way back in the morning. If i could leave 0 stars I would. I do not recomment this location at all. I came at this location to get my tires change and get my battery tested. They called me after testing it and told me it was still good. The following day, I was suppose to pick it up and they called me saying that I do need to get my battery changed because they had to jump start it again. I went and pick it up after they were done and noticed that my headlights were on. I believe they drained my battery overnight so they can charge me more. I always leave my headlights on auto. I came back the following day because my check engine light was on and they were charging me $100 for another diagnostic and they believe its just a coincidence. I took my car back and went somewhere else. Watch out for this place because they're shady. read more

Unfortunately the recommended services are not true. I paid for an AC diagnostic (diagnostic cost will not apply towards services) and was told the repairs needed would be $1,700. That hefty price caught me off guard. The AC got worse after the diagnostic. It was not blowing cold air and my car was running as if it was a hybrid whenever the AC was turned on. I went to a local auto shop for a second opinion and they told me that my AC was overcharged with Freon. Not sure if the Pep Boys mechanics were purposely trying to break my AC system to get me to do service with them. read more

As a female, I'm always weary of car shops but when I come to this Pep Boys location, they're very honest and tell you what they recommend and don't force all these unnecessary services onto you. You get a detailed report with photos and everything. The guys that work there are all very courteous and the process is super easy and you're able to track your updates along the way. Made an appointment for a simple oil change ONE WEEK PRIOR. When I made the appointment, I chose the option that I would be staying and waiting for my car. Came at 9:30 am, was told they were short on mechanics but it wouldn't be too long. I usually pay a little over $100 at a different pep boys location. Today it was $175, they said they had no coupons or discounts. Whatever. I sat in the waiting room for two and half hours and watch literally NO cars getting worked on. A man came in to pick up his car that he dropped off at 8:30 and they straight told him it wouldn't be ready until TOMORROW. After hearing this and now hitting the THREE HOUR mark for waiting, I asked for an ETA and they said they were waiting on a part to arrive to take off a filter. I said NOPE, I'm done my car hasn't been touched, I would like to leave now. And then suddenly, out of the clear blue, they had the part and were working on my car, should be 20 minutes How did they all of a sudden have the part? Now I'm trapped here because they "started" my car even though all they did was lift the hood again to make it look like they were working on it. What a complete waste of my day. TOTAL SCAMMERS HERE!! Wish there was a ZERO star option. Visited this location yesterday for a 120 point inspection for my Toyota 86 to make my buyer feel more comfortable. Upon arrival I spoke with Matt (supposedly the manager) who said this inspection HAS to come with an oil change. Asked him let's say hypothetically I changed the oil this morning, do I still have to? & he said yes. Absolutely ridiculous. Talked to the guy whom I booked the appointment with and he said they'll do the $75 for the 120 inspection only as told over the phone. I was told 45 min for the inspection & car didn't get done for almost THREE hours. Afterwards, they said "someone cross threaded some of my bolts previously" in order for them to replace it would cost $588 total!!!! Long story short, walked out with 4 out of 5 bolts and was handed the broken bolt! Also, they mentioned my engine has a leak??? They showed me some wetness around the valve cover gasket (barely wet). My car is always parked on the driveway and not once I've seen a leak! I'm not saying the car is in excellent condition, it has 90k miles on it but it's a TOYOTA after all!!! But it is in VERY GOOD condition at the very least. "The manager" Matt is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met. Just trying to take advantage of women and make money at this shop! Avoid at all cost & take your car somewhere trustworthy. Mind you, I had also taken the car to my trusted family mechanic a day prior to avoid any possible surprises at Pepboys. My mechanic told me there is no issues with the car, is in very good condition to be sold with a clean conscious. read more

I would recommend this Pep Boys because of the amazing customer service and support. I went in to receive some help with my car, since my Engine splash shield/ skit plate was damaged and dragging. The General Manager , Matt, was really kind and told me that he could easily fix this once I come in. I didn't have to wait at all, I was helped immediately once I parked and all the staff were very welcoming and kind. Matt went above and beyond by letting me know my tires need to be replaced soon and gave suggestions on where I could buy a battery for my key fob since he noticed it wasn't working. I had a very frustrating experience with Pep Boys in Lake Forest. I brought my car in for an AC issue, explaining that it was an intermittent problem with only some vents blowing cold air. I had already checked the pressure, which was in the green, and suspected a blower issue. They charged me $100 for a diagnostic and told me the AC needed a recharge because it was at the low end of green, which they said could cause uneven cooling. I ended up paying $346 for the recharge, but only after negotiating to get the diagnostic fee rolled into the total, something most companies do automatically. Unfortunately, the recharge didn't fix the issue. I later discovered my car has a built-in diagnostic feature that confirmed it was a blower issue, exactly what I had originally suspected. I no longer trusted them to do the repair and requested a refund. The front desk employee admitted they failed to consider the intermittent issue I mentioned and that their diagnosis was wrong. However, he couldn't issue a refund, and I had to call an 800 number. Customer service filed a claim that required Regional Field Manager approval. After a week with no response, I called again, and another rep escalated the claim--but still no response. The new store manager, Ben, tried his best to help, gathering more information and reaching out to the Regional Field Manager, but two more weeks passed with no resolution. Ben is at a lost. Regional field manager completely unresponsive. Should be fired. Avoid Pep Boys AC problems - they don't have a solid diagnosis process and won't stand behind their work. read more

I took my Suburban to the Pep Boys in Lake Forest for a $100 oil change. I noticed that they didn't rotate the tires this time. When I asked Fernando about this, he said that Pep Boys no longer does tire rotations with an oil change. I pointed out to him that the signs at the cash registers said that a tire rotation is included with all oil changes, but he said that the signs are incorrect. Then he said that my tires had less than 4/32 of an inch of tread, so we can't rotate the tires after all. The service receipt said that I had 7/32 of an inch of tread on the tires. Pep Boys serviced my vehicles for over 10 years, and this is the last time that I use the Pep Boys in Lake Forest. read more

Really disappointed in Pep Boys Lake Forest. Scheduled AC System Evaluation. They found nothing wrong and said there were no leaks. I paid for a 2nd opinion from a trusted mechanic and he diagnosed a bad compressor that was leaking refrigerant. Returned to Pep Boys to have them redo their AC System Evaluation and sure enough they didnt diagnose my car correctly the first time and confirmed a bad compressor. Wasted time and gas going 4 round-trips to Pep Boys and 2 round-trips to another mechanic to check their work. At the very least you would think that I would be offered a big apology and refund. But instead I get a higher than average quote to replace compressor, no refund for AC misdiagnosis, and excuses from managers Mike and Andrew that compressor likely failed between their 1st diagnosis and my mechanics which mind you is like a week apart. That is just mind blowing. Overall Im staying clear away from Pep Boys LF from here on out. They misdiagnose, make excuses for it, and charge more for auto repairs compared to local shops in the area. 0 stars if I could. read more

Pep Boys Lake Forest General Manager Matthew and Mechanic Andrew S. were my angels and life savers this evening... My wheelchair accessible vehicle requires a specialized battery; however, I went to prep my vehicle to use for Medical Treatment for my son's who is disabled oncology appointment the next day. This vehicle is the only vehicle I can transport my quadriplegia son in powered wheelchair. The vehicle battery died - I called Pep Boys - GM Matthew jumped on phone - went to warehouse to obtain a battery that can support VMI wheelchair system at 6:36 pm - realize they close at 7 pm. I was in a panic because my son's type of blood cancer and treatment is rare this appointment could not be missed, and I could not turn off my car I had an emergency AAA appointment to jump charge the existing battery that was BAD. Matthew and Andrew made it happen in less then 30 minutes and I was driving with a care to transport my son's safely to his Hematologist appointment for treatment. I was truly blessed to have these 2 incredible men jump into action and provide a level of customer service that has long been lost. I am very grateful to their spirit and hearts of gold! Went in to request a code pull for my car but accidentally said I wanted to get a diagnostics which was my bad. The guy at the front already looked miserable and like he was being forced to be at his job so when I said sorry I meant I wanted a code pull he asked me in an upset tone "so you don't want this then?" I said no sorry I meant to ask for the free service you guys do. He said okay well that will be 15 min then but you have to pull your car around cause I'm not going out in the rain to do that. I left crying at the way that he spoke to me that I didn't even stay to get the service done. As a woman it is already nerve wrecking to go to any car place cause the workers will talk down to you..so when you actually get the courage to go and you aren't treated as a decent human it is pretty upsetting. Once again, this week there was yet another manager and I was skeptical, but Ben turned out to be awesome! He was kind, caring, and sensitive to my ongoing issues, and took care of me from start to finish. In between my car being serviced (James is the best mechanic ever, and the only one I let work on my car) Ben kept me apprised of what was going on, when the part arrived, and everything else that was going on. He answered all my questions and went well above and beyond anyone I have ever worked with re my car. I sure hope he stays for a long time to come! I purchased the tires online and set the appointment for 9am the next day. I showed up exactly at 9 and they told me it would take an 1.5 hrs to get done. Which I think that's ridiculous but I was hoping they under promised and over delivered. Sorry, that's not the case! Two hours goes by and the car is not done. Spoke with the manager and he's running around looking to see what takes so long. Mind you I arrived early to prevent the extra wait and I had already made sure that they have the tires in stock the day before. I don't understand why it would take 2 hours to put on 4 tires.
