My experience with this local pep boys was an absolute nightmare!! The staff was rude and completely incompetent. I had them repair damage which I ran through insurance. The adjuster cut them a check on the spot but when I picked my car up, there was no mention this occured. Fast forward two weeks, I find this out from the adjuster and he says he gave the check to the manager. The check ended up being out in the open amongst other paperwork, unsealed. To make matters worse, the manager says they can't sign off on the check. There's much more that occurred but felt this was enough to say to turn off others. My recommendation is to go to a local mechanic bc situations like this won't happen. Their lucky I'm even giving them 1 star!! read more

This was by far the WORST car repair and customer service experience I have EVER experienced. This is just the abbreviated version I went in for what should have been a straight forward AC repair. I wish I had read more then the top two reviews which were OK , .Bottom line they fried the main computer on my car requiring it to be sent to the dealer, After that the follow through was Non existent .I called several times to be told it was "still at the dealer should be back soon ". I finally called the dealer myself to find out what was going on .Once the problem was ID 'd the dealer called me back .No one from Pep boys ever called me. I had to call them after it was finished and after being on hold for more then 10 minutes to be told that yes they knew it was done and had paid the repair cost already . I was out of town so I had made arrangement for family to pick up the car then next day.When I called the dealer back at 11 am to confirm they said no the repair had not yet been paid for .This require another call to Pep boys to be put on hold again and then when I told them I would only speak with a manager I was put on hold for a lengthy time .Finally got to the manager who took care of getting it paid within 30 minutes . I have worked in a customer service industry for over 25 yrs and have extensive training .When you cause a major problem like this you need to make that customer a number on priority not make excuses over being busy. with a perfunctory apology. In my opinion If this Pep boys wants to continue to stay in business ,(Not that they will ever get mine again) . They need to learn what Service Recovery is and Live it read more

After researching new tires and prices for our car, Pep Boys beat all the competitors with overall price and type of tire for the price. The tires arrived at the store in advance of the quoted time on the same day and I was in and out in approximately one hour. The employees were courteous, helpful and valued my time. I found the online appointment scheduling very helpful. I arrived early and Corneilus took care of me. He was extremely friendly and helpful and performed the boon of any customer service relationship-he under-promised and over-delivered. I was told that it may take a couple of hours, so my husband and I went to go hang out at Barnes and Noble. I received a call not even 45 minutes later saying that my car was ready for pickup. When I returned to get my car, the service manager who assisted me and the cashier were extremely pleasant and polite. I've always been treated well here. My Check Engine light came on, they checked it (for free, as Pepboys does) and he told me it was showing a code for the air filter. He took out the filter, which was dirty, used his compressor and blew out all the crap in it and put it back and the light went off. No charge and no pressure to buy a new air filter, which I really appreciated. read more

Of all the Pep Boys I've had service at, this is by far the worst one. I came in for a engine diagnostic test for my check engine light. I dropped off the car at noon. By 6:00, I hadn't received a call. The phone menu wasn't working, so a friend drove me there to see what was happening. I get in around 7, and the only thing they had done was hook it up to a computer to get the error code. The technician could not read the code, and couldn't reach the mechanic who had pulled it. I also asked them to take a look at my alternator. Next day they called and told me that they couldn't get the part they needed to repair the engine. I asked about the alternator, and the technician had forgotten about it. Twenty minutes later I get a call back that the alternator does need to be replaced, but they can't find a dealer with my car parts. Well, my car's model (Saab) has been out of business for awhile. I suggested a Euro parts shop, and they told me it was impossible. Hour later, they call and say they found a Euro parts shop (surprise, surprise) and could replace the engine valve and alternator the next morning. The next day I called at noon to ask about the status of my car. In the words of the technician, "the alternator was kicking the mechanic's butt" and it would take another hour. Two hours later, I called in again and was told it was ready. Show up, wasn't handed the paperwork to look at it, and asked to pay without reviewing what work was done. I go out to leave in my car, and the car wouldn't start! I went in and told the technician, and a mechanic came out to jump start it. He immediately says that my battery is bad and I need a new one. After arguing about why the battery wasn't checked after the alternator was installed, the mechanic went back inside. I stood in the rain for 10 minutes waiting for him to come back out, and he did not. My friend went in and asked what was taking so long. The mechanic said, "oh, you're getting the new battery?" and my friend replied, "no, we want this one tested." Same mechanic comes back out, and tests the battery. Still claims the battery is bad and I need a new one. Fed up, I just got in my car and went to Sears. After explaining to Sears what happened at Pep Boys, they said that the battery should have been fully re-charged while the alternator was being installed. Sears re-charged it, and it was perfectly fine. Long story short, take your car to Sears. read more

I have been to this place many times and finally sat down to write a review. Their auto service is good. Normally I make online reservations and bring in all my coupons/discounts. I agree with other reviewers that it is not well maintained. But I am concerned only with their auto service. So far I have not had any bad experience. Some of the senior folks working there are professionals and they would take time to explain the problem. Overall they are dependable and would recommend. read more

My son blew a tire at 5:20pm today (Sunday) with plans to leave on vacation early in the morning. Our trusty mechanic agreed to meet him to install if we could get the tire and bring it to his shop. After calling every tire store in the area, none of whom had the right size tire, he called Pep Boys Manassas at 5:40pm. They had the tire and told him to come on in. He drove on his spare, parking right at closing time (6pm). As he walked toward the shop, he passed a guy in the parking lot that asked him if he was the one who had called about the tire. My son said indeed he was. That worker said that he left the tire up front for him and that his manager would take care of selling it to him. My son got to the door and it was locked. He saw workers in the store, but the man at the front waved him off and pointed to the clock. He pointed at the tire and to the guy in the parking lot, but the manager (or whoever it was) again shook his head no, and waved him off. At 6:01pm. Guess they don't need a customer OR a 2 minute guaranteed sale if it means keeping the door open for ONE extra minute after telling someone to drive in on their spare at 5:40pm. I am livid and we will never go to this shop again. read more

I've had multiple horrible experiences with this Pepboys, specifically with service department. I purchased a set of tires last year, mounted/balanced and alignment done. Ever since, my alignment has never been right. I've brought it in multiple times and each time I walk in, I wait over 25 minutes to even talk to someone at the counter. I can't tell you how many times they are standing there doing paper work and refuse to take anyone standing there. I've walked in and out multiple times. I've setup appointments and still have to wait 30 minutes to see someone when I come in. It is very frustrating coming in to find out their not only booked but just waiting for someone to say that, but making time to come in and make an appointment. I've recently booked an appointment for another realignment on a early Saturday morning, and I showed up extra early. My vehicle was not taken in for over 45 minutes later. Bays were empty, techs were just standing around. Hours went by before they were done, I got the vehicle back and got on 66 and the steering wheel is cockeyed the opposite way than when I brought it in! Not even close to being on center. I've had such a short fuse with them, and to get time again to go back is another story. I went back a day or so later, and was told I need to talk to a manager. Apparently he had just walked by and was outside talking to the parts guy. I stood there over 45 minutes when I saw the "manager" drive out and across the street ordering food! I told the counter guy and he said nope he's talking to the parts truck guy. I got very frustrated and left. Got at the light on 234 and Balls Ford rd, and needless to say, that manager was on his way home sitting at the same light as me! So how long would I have to have waited for? Just ridiculous. I'd give them a half star if I could! I'll pay the extra money on an alignment and have it done right the first time! read more

I always forget about this place because of its off road location. I had a bolt/screw- large metal object in my tire. I went to Sears - my usual go to place - and they immediately tried to upsell me tires telling me my tred was too low. When I told Sears I wasn't interested they told me that it was impossible to plug my tire because the hole was " larger than a pinky finger". I decided to try Pep Boys for the first time. I drove around back and the gentleman at the door addressed me right away and told me I would be next. The man inside was equally as prompt and courteous and told me they would try their best to plug the tire. They did it! They never tried to sell me any other service and although there was mention of my tire tread getting on the lower side, they thought the tires were fine for now. So long Sears auto! read more

I called pep boys in the afternoon needing a quote on 4 new tires. I told the guy on the phone what I needed and he said he had the tires in stock and to come in and they could do it right then. He quoted me $500 for all 4 tires, installation, and alignment so we drove all the way there, on a donut which I've already been driving on for a couple days so I was very anxious to get new tires (one was flat, but they were all very worn down). I have never seen such LAZY employees. The guy had to kick the door to wake up a guy sitting in a chair behind the door. He said he had a job for him but he still didn't budge so he called someone inside the garage to do it instead and he mosied over really really slowly. The guy finally got one of his employees to go outside and look at my tires to see what size they were. After all that it turns out the $500 price he quoted me was for 15 inch rims, when mine were 16 inch, and he actually didn't have the tires in stock. So the price went up over $150 bucks and they couldn't even do it that night. I was very disappointed and we ended up just leaving. We were reading yelp reviews on the way over and were very apprehensive, but we were hopeful our experience would be better. All the other bad reviews were right. read more

I've bought 4 set of tires from pep boys over the last couple years and have had minimal problems. I got the road hazard insurance each time and that gives me free tire rotations for life with a paid oil change. Great value. And there's always a $19.99 or cheaper coupon for conventional oil change on the pep boys website for printing. Plus I did blow a tire one time and received a new tire with just installation and balancing cost. They send great coupons and reward certificates in the mail too. During my last service, they really helped me out identifying a bent rim and worn out tie rods from a recent auto accident. Another time, when pep boys installed the wrong size tire on my car, they made it right by discounting the majority of the bill. The service is not the quickest but they get it done and usually done right. Reco leave your car with them and not bother waiting. Pep Boys is absolutely the worst auto shop there is. We took the car in to have a flat tire repaired. If was Friday and we were going out of town so we really wanted to get out of there ASAP. They told us 30 minutes and there was only 1 other car ahead of us but it took over 2 hours. Obviously, not happy that it took 2 hours but we left not wanting to spend more time in discussing this matter; the next day we discovered that the tire was losing air, put some more air but still losing. My husband decided to look at the tire and there was something sticking out of it, like the material used for plug the tire holes. We stopped by a tire shop to fix it and they discovered that Pep Boys has punctured our brand new tire in a new place while trying to fix the small hole for which we initially went there. Not only that but they were supposed to cut off the extra material after fixing the tire, instead they just put an adhesive on it that kinda looked like chewing gum. Should I mention that our rear bumper is scratched now? It appears that when the lazy mechanic took the tire out of the trunk of the car or when they put the spare one back into the trunk, they did not lift it up enough so it rubbed onto the bumper and now the paint looks like crap. Yesterday, out of pure coincidence, my husband was checking the air only to discover that the idiots at Pep Boys over inflated the front tires and under inflated the rear ones, basically they reversed the pressure requirements written on the door. I don't want to say "what else could they get wrong" because I'm sure there's many things which can happen but what a sloppy job, what a sloppy company, drivers and car owners be aware! Went in for an engine diagnostics because my vehicle was misfiring. Dropped my car off at approximately 11AM and was told that there is one car ahead of me and that after that they'll take a look. After 4 hours, I called them since I had not heard anything from them and they said that they haven't taken a look at my car yet because someone called out sick. Ok, fair enough. I receive a call at 6:30 that evening and was told that the mechanic on duty doesn't know engines well enough to run the diagnostics so they are going to have to keep my car overnight. That seems a little strange that you hire a mechanic that doesn't know engines very well, but hey! maybe he's a tire guy, who knows? Anyways, I wait until the morning and still haven't heard anything from them so I decide to give them a call at around 11:30AM. I was told that my car just got hooked up to the machine to run the diagnostics and that It'll be ready in a few hours. A few hours pass and I receive a call saying that they can't fix my issue because it is "beyond their capability". (In the end, the issue was I need new spark plugs and to re-thread one of the cylinder heads.) So they can't fix my car and I go ahead back up to the shop to pick up my car. When I went to get my key, they charged me almost $100 for the engine diagnostic. I told them "You are charging me $100 to tell me you can't fix my car?" The guy at the counter said "yes, sorry, that's the way it is". (Wonderful customer service!!!) So I pony up the $100 and get my key. I dropped my car off at a local mechanic at around 3PM and they had my car fixed by 8AM the next day. There was a sign on the counter at this Pep Boys that read "If you are not happy with your service, please call Jason Rosario". After this horrific experience, I called Jason and left a voicemail. Wait a few days and never received a call back. I tried calling him another 3 times throughout the next week with no return calls what so over. This was an absolute horrible experience and a waste of my time that it took them 1 and half days to tell me that they couldn't fix my car. Also, I feel robbed by them for taking $100 from me to tell me they can't fix my car. There is a reason why they have horrible reviews and I wish I had read them before going to this Pep Boys. Please save yourself the trouble and headache and go to a local mechanic. I recommend Olde Towne Auto, they are great, friendly and won't charge you an arm and a leg. read more

I went online to the Pep Boys website to purchase 4 tires for a service vehicle. They were an odd size tire but according to the website, they were in stock. I also booked an appointment time 4 days later. I received a call from someone stating that they only had 3 of the tires in stock and they would have to order the 4th tire from the warehouse. They stated that they would ship it overnight to the store location for my 11am appointment. I then received another call confirming the appointment. I asked if the tire had been shipped to the store. I could have asked if aliens were landing and gotten the same response. Not a clue. I called the store the day of the appointment to ask if it was possible to get in early since my schedule had changed. They assured me that if I get there early, i could get in early. I arrived about 45 minutes ahead of my scheduled 11am appointment. When I went to the desk to hand over my keys, the manager, once he looked at my appointment in the computer, stated that they only had 3 of the 4 tires. I explained the calls I received regarding the 4th tire and that it was supposed to have been shipped to them a couple days ago. He looked around and said.. "nope, no tire here but it's probably on either UPS or Fedex truck for todays delivery. They show up around 11am". Ok.. I'll wait. I sat in a chair facing the parking lot entrance to wait for the delivery. About 12:30 I went back up to the desk and suggested that he call the person who confirms the appointment since they stated that they shipped the tire. He didn't have a clue as to who that was so I backtracked the calls in my phone and gave him the numbers. He called and was on the phone for a while, ducking into the service bays. he came back, and said "let me check on something". About 30 minutes later, he proclaimed that the delivery was just made and it's here". No fedex or UPS truck ever arrived on the premises but magically the tire just appeared. Great, get them on and let me get outta here. Now you would figure that being caught in a lie, and having a very frustrated customer would get them moving to at least get me out of their hair. I didn't get back into my truck until 2:45. I at least got an apology for having to wait so long. My guess is that the tire was delivered and someone just forgot to put it into inventory. Why did it have to take hours and me pestering them to have them track it down and realized that it was sitting there the entire time. Poor poor business management. Will NEVER go back. read more
