Gave them a call and was able to come right in and get the service done. The calibration didn't last too long and before I knew it, I got the calibration paperwork i-hand and notarized. The Staff: The staff were friendly. On the phone, I explained what I needed and they gave me a quote and it was true to their word. After my calibration, they gave me the paperwork and I paid what was discussed over the phone. Everyone was nice and straight when it came down to the service and pricing. There I was, broken down on Rt.50, cars blaring their horns at me, so scared people would have accidents... I called AAA first, and then 911 to ask for assistance with traffic. AAA sent Black Horse Transportation - Eddie was like my knight in shining armor, but instead of riding a white horse, well... who cares what color it was! He saved me and whisked me back home (I tipped him well) before taking my car to a repair shop. Now Mr. Eddie told me to go to HIS repair place Advance Automotive, but I was unfamiliar with them, so I asked that he drop it to the place that used to treat me right. Notice "used to"... After looking at my car, this place told me I'm looking at $6-8K to fix it!!! I was trying to get my 2006 to 20 years old but not for that price. I called Eddie back to see about a tow home so I could pay my final respects - and Eddie said to please call Advanced Automotive - just ask what it'd cost to replace the timing belt since that's what first place said I needed (but they also said new water pump, and new engine, plus other untold items until new engine was in place!) I called and they were willing to tow from 1st repair place to themselves (less than 6 miles) - so I said YES! Chris, the service manager called me back SAME DAY and told me what was up. Engine was fine, just needed a new timing belt and they'd let me know on the water pump. Wow! Glory day! I got to keep Old Blue after all! This is a normal item on your 120,000 mileage service recommendation so was no surprise. Everything else on my 2006 PT Cruiser was working just fine. They got the job done so fast!!! Found out my neighbor has been using them for years and swears by them - which was the extra confirmation that I needed. Thank you Eddie! You saved Old Blue! And Thank you Chris, Donny and my mechanic (sorry I didn't get your name) for your part in fixing my car that I wasn't ready to say goodbye to! *** After my visit today and last visit I have to add to my post! Everyone I have met and spoken to here have been incredible! Chris who usually answers the phone is so very knowledgeable and calm in demeanor, so when I call all stressed out about a problem with my car, Chris always calms me down with his words - and they're never false nor inflated - he gives it to you straight but in such a positive way that you immediately feel hopeful - he's magical. The owner Donny is usually on site and oversees everything, so I feel like he's the one who insures all is done right. The mechanics I've met have all been real and respectful. It's such a well run business and I'm so glad my neighbors recommended me to them. I've had two big jobs done by them - the first one I was told by a different car repair place that it was time to get rid of my car, that it was non-repairable. Advanced Automotive was willing to tow it to them (was about 9 miles away) and within a day gave me the great news of just how very fixable it was and their cost was so very fair! The next big job was a new front brake job. Much less than the dealer who had discovered it during one of my free oil changes, and lightning fast are they! Today blew my mind when they diagnosed and took care of a scary to me issue plus gave me a clean emissions test I needed for my registration renewal. I needed my car towed from Tysons. The tow truck driver from Advanced, Josh, was fantastic. Very kind and personable. Chris at the front desk - also kind and helpful, and kept me updated as to when my car would be finished. One of the mechanics even helped me open my soda when I was clearly struggling! My car was fixed in just a few hours and came in at the cost quoted to me. I can't necessarily speak to the value, but the staff I dealt with were great, and my car is working again! They do a great job but it's just really expensive. So I call AAA for a tow and a BLACK HORSE TRANSPORTATION tow truck showed up. The driver recommended I try out this shop. I needed many repairs and the guys were honest and upfront about cost. When I checked over the invoices, they really don't try to screw you over in labor costs. They took care of so many things in a very short amount of time for a very reasonable price. If I took my car to the dealership service center like I was originally planning, I'd have paid thousands more. I picked my car up the next day with convenience. While driving on Route 28, in our Sprinter 2500, I got a flat. I called AAA and they sent Roadside Assistance my way to help me change the tire. We attempted to change the tire, but it became clear immediately that a curb side fix with the spare was not an option. TJ called in a request for a tow truck. Even though it wasn't necessary, he stayed with me until the tow truck arrived. I asked the tow truck driver where I could buy tires quickly (that evening) and he towed me to NTB in Chantilly. Based on his strong endorsement, I found myself at NTB looking to buy 4 tires for our commercial vehicle, which worked out well considering how quickly everything had to come together and the time of day. I first heard about Advanced Automotive Inc. in Chantilly because they were highly recommended by people in the Northern Virginia Next Door app. They have taken excellent care of my 2015 BMW for at least the last four years. Their customer and mechanic service both are high quality. Unlike several other mechanics I've used, they can always be trusted to explain exactly what my car needs and what it doesn't need so I know I'm being treated fairly and not being taken advantage of as a woman who doesn't really know anything about cars. This morning, I took my car in for what BMW said was a $1500.00 repair to replace my exhaust system ... but the fantastic mechanics at Advanced Automotive gave me a much, MUCH less expensive option that would fix the annoying rattling sound without any harm to the car's performance. Advanced Automotive has been our repair shop of choice for 10 years now. We've had Volkswagens (which is why we find ourselves needing a repair shop more than the average person, but that's another story!), and they've done an excellent job with their responsiveness and turnaround (getting most repairs done same-day with or without an appointment), explanations of what is needed or how one component interfaces with another (for us non-techies), options for when you're on a budget and have to prioritize things for maintenance or repair, and they've been very fair with pricing, especially compared to the VW dealerships in this area. They are very honest, no pressure, no bull***, and are AAA recommended for a very good reason. Donnie and the technicians do excellent work. Josh works the counter and interfaces with the customers much of the time, and he is extremely personable, patient in his explanations, and empathetic to our needs. If you have to wait for your vehicle, there's an area to watch TV, drink a nice variety of Keurig coffee/teas, and a basket of candy to satisfy your sweet tooth. If you're dropping off and live or work nearby, they'll give you a courtesy drop-off or pick-up within the area. The only thing I have ever found myself lacking from AA is a loaner car if a repair takes more than a single day, but I know that's pushing it for a mom-and-pop repair shop. :) They have a full range of towing options, if needed, and work directly with AAA to coordinate tows for AAA members. I believe if you get towed using your AAA membership, they offer a discount off parts for your repair too. They have those wildly-painted tow trucks you see all over the roads. All in all, they won't steer you wrong at Advanced Automotive. I've recommended them to many people with late-model and classic cars and trucks, and none have come back with anything but excellent reviews. read more

I truly felt a relief of tension. Now I will say pricing may be a tad bit steep. Doing the math I factored labor costs at roughly $100/hr. Parts roughly $225 (OEM), showed an increase of 19% over wholesale/market value. But hey, they've got to eat to. Excellent experience, highly recommend this garage, they employ thoughtful technicians that take the time to help you. It was evident they want to do the right thing, and develop repeat customers. Experienced car trouble while out of town; given proximity, tried Advanced Automotive. I dropped my car off a few minutes before close and was greeted by Josh, who made me feel very welcome. The garage is in a industrial area, that I was initially turned off by, but my fears were laid to rest when I walked in and saw the facility and the friendly faces. He promptly called me the next morning with the diagnosis, and walked me through all the "issues". Many of my questions were, what's that? why do I need that, etc. Each question was answered respectfully and with great detail. In the end, I needed far more work than I anticipated, and the cost of the work far outweighed the blue book of the car. In order to at least get me to my hometown where I could shop for a car, I needed a battery. They carry Interstate batteries, that were more expensive than I wanted to spend (given I'm selling the car within the next week); so, I called AAA and they replaced the battery. Josh had no issue with this, which was pleasantly surprising. Josh didn't charge me for the labor it took to diagnose the problem. And, he spent 15 minutes with me (a single woman about to embark on buying a car) great tips and suggestions for when I go to the dealership to buy. I'm absolutely livid. My boss sent his car to AA for diagnosis of a bad clutch, and ended up not getting it fixed. We needed to tow it to a different shop where it could be stored until a friend of mine purchased and fixed it. If this were my tow bill, I would be calling my credit card company and refusing the charge. Quick timeline of events: Tuesday - I go to RRT after Advanced Automotive called and claimed the green 525i was delivered. Get to RRT and discover they have delivered a black M5 instead. Call AA and they apologize, say they will send the green 525 over in a few hours. Okay, I'll come back tomorrow. Wednesday -- Call RRT, green 525 is here. I drive over. No key to said car is anywhere to be found. We call AA back. They forgot to move the green car's key over (it was inside the black M5). At 12:11 PM, they claim they are sending someone over with the key. 12:50 PM rolls around, no key. I call back. "Oh, we don't have a driver yet." "But you said you were leaving at 12:15... this is now my second lunch hour I've spent at a shop trying to get access to this car, and I think it's pretty ridiculous." The shop hangs up on me. I go to eat at McDonald's down the street, come back at 1:30. No key. The AA driver finally shows up at 1:45 and is on the phone as he walks in. Asks if I'm the guy with the BMW and I say yes. He hands the phone to me, and his boss is on the phone (same guy I spoke to before). At this point, the boss instructs me to "go f*** myself" and hangs up the phone. This is absolutely unacceptable. I understand a mis-communication and even sending the wrong car. Mistakes happen. But how everything was handled was beyond unprofessional. In no way will I ever recommend Advanced Automotive to anyone for vehicle repairs or towing needs. read more

Stuck giving it 1 star .. People there are rude. Last year my car started to overheat real bad. Had it towed to them. They told me the radiator had a crack and needed it to be replaced. Told them to go ahead and replace. From the moment I got the car back it started to leak & kept getting worse. Every day I was having to add antifreeze. Life has been hell and have not been able to bring it back. Today I had my car towed to another repair shop that someone recommended and had FANTASTIC reviews on Yelp. I told them that my radiator was leaking so they checked it out. They called and told me that the radiator had a big crack in it. I called Advanced to tell them about the radiator. The guy was horrible. He was questing me like crazy and seemed like he didn't believe me, he asked if I had the receipt and I told him no. Can't BELIEVE they DON'T KEEP RECORDS. Now I'm screwed because we DO NOT have the MONEY to put in a NEW RADIATOR. They just DO NOT CARE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY BRINGING YOUR CAR TO THEM. read more

My car broke down at 11pm on Monday night and when a AAA driver came to tow it, he suggested I bring my car here to Advanced Automotive. He admitted to working here at Advanced but promised me I would get a AAA discount, there wouldn't be a diagnostic fee, and that this shop was top notch. I saw the ratings on here and that the shop gets 4 stars, so I said, why not? Donnie called me the next day to say that I needed three different parts: Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor, and a new timing belt. I explained to him that I had just had my timing belt replaced and it just didn't make sense. He said it was necessary, that once you remove the belt, that you can't put it back in. He quoted me $1,100 to fix/replace all three parts. I called Honda and not only did they say it was not necessary to replace the timing belt again, but they said usually, it's just one senor or the other, not both that are bad. I called a third shop and they agreed with Honda. I called Donnie back and he admitted that only one sensor was bad but tried to justify why it was necessary to replace them both. I immediately had my car towed to Honda and the repair ended up costing me $350, compared to the $1,100 Advanced quoted me. Donnie and Advanced Automotive are not trustworthy and are obviously just out to make as much money as possible. It is a completely unethical way to do business and I would not recommend this shop to anyone. Shout out to Rosenthal Honda Fairfax for being awesome. read more

Me and my father came in to pick up our truck from being towed by AAA after a breakdown. The driver suggested this business and my father stopped by on the 6/2/15. Upon arriving today for payment, there was a problem with the credit portion of the card (my dad just realized this) but would use debit instead with the same card. The owner stated they do not accept debit OR checks. This is not stated anywhere in the business on any documents given to us, but most importantly was not revealed to my father when he agreed to take his car here. The owner then pontificated about how no place even takes checks anymore "90% of businesses don't" and was very condescending and unprofessional. He tried to give us the runaround a few times when we asked him to write down and sign what he was saying for reference. He was annoyed with the fact that we tried to find different options ( perfectly sound and legal) to pay but he decided to patronize my father for not getting his bank kinks worked out prior. My fathers bank is in Maryland so there was no way to get the funds in time. That is not his business, if we knew there wasn't another way to pay, we would not choose such a business that can't accommodate their customers properly. It's a business with large transactions and if they just take one form of payment, being cash or credit BUT NO DEBIT, i would guess people always run into problems. We suspect he's being untruthful anyway. Bottom line, This place doesn't take certain payments. The owner is unprofessional and ignorant. We suspect he was ignorant to how to even do debit transactions but told us just flat out they don't take it. They still have our car. I was very confused as to why he turned so impatient and bothered so quickly; we were not loud, and calm. It's perfectly fine if a business has only certain options for payment, but you have to make that clear to your customers if you are trying to be an ethical and professional business. This ordeal today has cut into our time and busy weekend. Do not come here if you don't want to be belittled and disrespected over matters that shouldn't even be happening.
