My history as a Pep Boys customer hasn't always been a happy one. At one time while living in another town I owned several cars, only one of which was new. Restoring the others made me a familiar face at my nearby Pep Boys store. That is until one Saturday afternoon when a cashier wrongly accused me of trying to use a stolen credit card. She whipped out a pair of scissors that were almost comically large and ceremoniously cut my card into shreds before my eyes. The store manager supported her action (fortunately their corporate management did not). The result is that for many years I would not step foot into any Pep Boys store. Which brings me to this Mesa location. Not only haven't I had a bad experience here but just the opposite, the employees here seem to be on a consistent mission to do whatever is possible, and sometimes well beyond that, to make sure the customer doesn't walk out unhappy. Are they perfect? No, that's not going to happen in any retail store, but I think what I'm seeing are employees who are good at putting themselves into their customers' shoes and treating them how they would want to be treated themselves. And maybe it's a bit of their parents having taught them how to play nice with scissors. read more

Lire's! Paul the technician broke my truck hood release, then after I called them wrote it down on their invoice as already broke. Went to speak to them and they showed me their invoice, got home looked at my invoice it isn't there! Why would Paul write it down as busted when I would already know it was broken. I just came from emissions and opened it myself, so no it was not already busted. Low class people and experience. Deborah Penn you suck as a manager may karma help you too. My husband went right when they opened. First they wouldn't even acknowledge him, he had to approach them talking in the garage. Then they direct him "yea go park over there". They took 1 hour to patch the tire! Even the guy at the register didn't want to help and had horrible customer service. Do not recommend. read more

They did work on my Avis rental .They did a quick tire replacement and the gal that has been there for many years made sure I didn't have to pay because I only had the car for a week. read more

Funny the survey they send you doesn't let you put a 1 star review but lets you put a 5 star review. First I was told $89 for an oil change and with the $20 off coupon it would have been $69. But my total was $87. How is that possible? Second was told I need new tires. I literally just got new tires 2 weeks ago. Third my hood wasn't closed completely and I had to pull over on the freeway when I saw it was open. The guy at the counter was incredibly rude. Never again will I go back. read more

I made an appointment to get the oil changed. After I got home I realized that the cover to my undercarriage was hanging down & was mere inches from the pavement! It was held on by 3 screws, meaning there were 7 screws missing!! Absolutely NOTHING was said to me about this problem!! If that cover had caught on the pavement, god only knows what would've happened. But I'm pretty sure it could've really messed up my car! I was about to leave on a 1,500 mile road trip, so hubby just removed it & I'll take care of it when I get to my destination. A "heads up" would've been GREATLY appreciated! Poor quality diagnostics and sloppy work. 3 oil changes in a row. They stripped drain bolt and tried to blame another shop. Poor warranty. Tell you lifetime but then you find out that is only got the part but they are happy to do labor st inflated rate. Got 7000 miles on power steering pump. Paid for second install that lasted 8 months and 9000 miles. Needs to be replaced again. Go to a real mechanic if you want the job done right. They love selling low quality rebuilt junk and tell you that a product should only be good for low mileage. I will never go back. They are inferior in every aspect of their business read more

My car needed new control arms. It was under warranty, so I took it to Pep Boys and Debbie, manager?, did all of the haggling with the warranty company. She has been there for like 20 years and she runs a very tight ship! She is no nonsense and will tell it to you like it is, which I appreciate. She knows her stuff and keeps those guys on their toes. After leaving my car there, I remembered that I had forgotten to take out my firearm, which I keep in the console for self protection. I called her immediatly and they took my car and put it in a protected, locked bay till I got there to pick it up. She wasn't taking any chances. Really great experience. I've been coming here for about a year. I book appointment for AC work. You know cause we live in Arizona and it's hotter than my grandmas Chile. I have an online profile and put all my info in there. I come in and "the AC tech doesn't work weekends " well that would of been. Nice when you put that on the website. I will start this by saying it ultimately appears my car is fine. Five minutes after my oil was changed and less than one mile away from the store, my car ground to a halt sounding like a blender full of ice cubes and the lights on the dashboard all lit up and then the car died. I checked the oil and there was oil. I held my breath, started the car and went back to Pep Boys-for the last time. The counter person said "Oh nothing I can do about that. It started fine when you left, didn't it". A trouble light for the brake also stayed on. I'd like to point out they mess with virtually every fluid on the car when they do an oil change, then try to say "Oh we didn't touch that". They checked my battery and the terminal was so loose the car lost all power when I tried to restart it. I was able to finger tighten it to get back to Pep Boys. They stood behind nothing and helped me with nothing. I am lucky it appears the problem was simply oil getting circulated after being totally drained. I've been taking my work vehicle to these clowns for over a year now. Since vehicle is fairly new and another company pays for the cost of our service, they don't need much. My last encounter was with Mitch who decided that my complaint of poor customer service was funny as he sat there and laughed while texting on his phone. I don't think that if you cannot have your employees or yourself do the required repairs properly, you should find another line of work. I always ask for the same thing...Oil change and rotate(since they are their tires and there invoice says they will rotate every 7500 miles for free). They have yet to rotate my tires in 10k-15k. The other work vehicle has their tires on it also with at least 20k on them that they've never rotated and this time they can't rotate to the rear because they're worn out(FROM LACK OF ROTATION). Now the company I work for has to purchase two new tires due to there lacking service. Debbie told me that they always do what the vehicle needs but that's not true. Their service sucks and I can't believe they're still in business because they can't do a simple oil change and rotate. They are also irritated every time I would bring vehicle in for service. I am giving one star due to the service being completed well, but my overall experience with this location was extremely uncomfortable. Let me start off by saying I had to get my car towed due to a dead battery. Since my battery had died, I also decided it was a good time to replace my shocks as they needed it. I called over to to this location advise my car was being towed & what I needed completed. I had also made sure I was able to pay for this by inputting card information as my father was helping me out. Despite the condescending tone of the associate, I still decided to go to this location as it is 0.2 miles away from my house. The next day when my car was complete, I had received 4-5 calls stating my car was finished and then 3 follow up calls asking if I'm still coming. On the first initial call I advised I was be there before closing, 7 p.m. On the 5th call I decided let me just go get this so they leave me alone. Mind you, it's 5 p.m.... 2 hours prior to closing. Whatever, maybe they wanted to get out early and I was the last customer so I headed that way and it took me a whopping 2 minutes. This is where it gets uncomfortable. I walk in and the first thing I notice is the 3 people waiting in the waiting room. I wonder why they were so urgent calling, but quickly disregard as I'm ready to get my car. I walk up to the two associates by the name of Nick and I was to say either Debbie, Diane, I'm not entirely sure, but she her hair is fixed into a mullet style. I advise I'm here for the Chrysler 200 and immediately the woman starts hysterically laughing to the point where I'm uncomfortable. She then states "yeah we just need to make sure what cars we are putting inside as we don't keep any out" again mind you, it's FIVE O'CLOCK. Instead of asking her what's so funny, I turn my head back to Nick as he is ringing me up. He then proceeds to ask, "cash or card" and before I can fix my mouth to even state I need to input information, mullet lady the says "awwww you don't remember her dad is paying for it" ?????????? THEEEN Nick chimes in "awe yeah I remember, do you remember?!" Back to mullet lady and then laughter continues to break out between them.... at this point I'm fuming. How unprofessional? How extremely invasive? And the persistent calling, for what? Also, not that the amount should matter as your customer service should stay the same no matter the customer or the amount, but this repair ran me just shy of $1,000. I will never return back to this location or honestly a Pep Boys. Disgusting customer service. read more

I had a 3 a clock appointment for a service that should take 30 min or less maybe an hour on a busy day. I came in for an oil change and tire balance and was quoted 2 hours! And the reason why it took 2 hours you ask? I was literally sitting in the waiting area watching not 1 or 2 but 3 techs standing around! I understand people have certain things they focus on but every tech knows how to do an oil change and balance and if you are just standing there talking then Pep Boys need to figure out a better system. read more

I want to start off by saying before today I was a loyal Pep Boys customer and have spent several thousands maintaining both my vehicles here over the last couple years. I have bought 4 full sets of tires here for both my cars, and today I called in to purchase another set. I called in today and asked the male representative if I could buy some tires he puts me on hold for 5 minutes and then hangs up. I call in again and he rudely answers and I asked if I could buy some tires. I told him to look up my account that I'd like to get the same tires before he growls and he said that's going a few minutes and puts me on hold for 5 more minutes. Finally gets back on and rudely asks for my phone number I give it to him and than he quotes me a ridiculous $750 for 4 tires when I purchased these tires twice now for under $500. I am pretty sure he was just lying about the price so I would not give them more work to do today. Pep Boys needs to really evaluate the quality of people they have working there as they are causing your company to lose loyal customers. What a joke! I'll be taking my business to Firestone for now on who by the way had great customer service and did not hang up on me or give me attitude when I told them I was looking to make a tire purchase. By the way they also gave me a quote of $450 out the door for 4 tires. Do not use this company. Buyer beware. read more

I was very lucky there's a Pep boys in the neighborhood. My battery died at home. It's not easy to change these batteries now a days. I had to have it towed in but Pep boys takes care of it all. Less than 10 miles is only 24 bucks for that tow. I got the battery I wanted with a 5 year warranty, free replacement. Thanks! read more

Never go here.... I literally drove away from this pep boys with lug nuts that weren't even tightened on any of my tires. None of the lugs were even screwed on all the way. I live about 20 minutes away and was recommended here. I get it it's my fault that I came in right before close to get my car but honestly was it worth it for me to drive all the way home with an unsafe vehicle. Yikes guys, yikes. read more

I made an appointment for 5:30 to get my new tires balanced and installed (didn't get out of there until 9:30 and the job still isn't done). I got there ten minutes early waitress for a little then walked across the street to grab a bit at the Chinese restaurant and get caught up on work. After about and hour I walked back and they were just barely lifting my truck up, I wasn't super frustrated at this point because I get it, delays happen with these types of things. So as I waited watching the tech move at the slowest pace possible, and I mean slow!!! I see that he is looking for the lug nut key (which I was never given when I bought the truck) but hey that kind of stuff happens right? So he sends the front desk gal over to tell me that they can't do the installation ( it really seemed like they were hoping that I would just say ok and walk away after already being there for 2 hours which I had to be the one that suggested "you guys are pep boys, don't you have a key I can buy? She said "no we would have to order one" so then I suggested we'll, you guys sell lug nuts right? Why don't we just break them off and put new ones on, so we went to the counter to buy lug nuts, come to find out the lug nuts come with the key that we needed (Which was funny because after I realized that they also sold keys separately there which had the purple packaging which would fit my lug nuts) so she came back and told me that they they can now work in them. So now I wait until 9 (an hour after they close) for her to come tell me it's done,(she just wanted to close her ride was waiting out front honking and yelling at here the whole time while she would swear and cuss back at him that there was still a customer there) as I go into the bay I see that he is still putting my cap covers on the last one keeps falling off, so she proceeds to try (it was funny because she started by turning it counter clock wise and I had to correct her) so finally I try it and come to find out it was stripped, so finally after being there for 4 hours I just said you know what, I'll just come back tomorrow to get this last cover on, he agreed and said to go and tell her that (she was waiting by her rides car smoking) so I went out to tell her that I will come back tomorrow to get it fixed and she said in the most defensive attitude " well I don't know what we'll be able to do about it tomorrow if we can't do it tonight?" I calmly said "well obviously it was on there when I got here and now it's stripped so I expect for it to leave the same way I brought it" she replied "well there is now way he could've done that, that's just what happens when you use metal and plastic" ( which is hilarious because the plastic is only the cover it has nothing to do with the male or female part it's more or less just a spacer.) At this point I wanted to explode but it wasn't worth my time and quite frankly I am tired so I decided to express my experience here which is very very rare for me to do and since I employee over 300 customer care professionals myself I felt I would want someone to inform me if one of my staff treated any of our customers like this. The cherry on top of this whole experience was that I also paid to have the tire pressure sensors installed and I didn't 100% catch what the tech said but it seemed like he told her that he still needs to reset the sensors so they work and she abruptly took over and said " after you drive for awhile the sensors should work but if for some reason if they don't have them look at it when you come back tomorrow" so I'm sure we can all guess where this is going. So we shall see how this gets resolved. Look I out of anybody understands that a couple employees that want to get off at the end of a long day can sometimes do or say things that don't represent the company in its natural light so I am not going to totally write you guys off yet but I will be sure to follow up this review with another either way on how this gets resolved with a "hey you know what I wrote this and it got handled" or with something not as pleasant. I noticed that on the other reviews you are referring to go to the website so I will do that now but please someone contact me and make this easy and quick for me to just get what I paid for. I came in for oil change. I have an appointment at 11am. Service guys informed me it'll take like an hour to do it. So, I'm fine with it. It has been 1 hour and 30 min and my car is still not done and still in the garage. If I knew this will take this long, then I should've cancelled or went on a different day. Stopped in today as I had three other failed attempts around town. Just needed a simple map light. As soon as I walked in Kaleb greeted me & asked what I needed. I gave him the part# per my owners manual, after he looked for the light, he asked about the vehicle so he could look up the #. He offered me a bulb that was clearly too small. So he asked if we could go out to the vehicle. He managed to take the whole map light out of the roof (easiest as it's such a tiny space) he brought it inside and found the correct bulb, THEN put the map light back in the roof!! I was still in/out of Pep Boys in 20 minutes!!! THANK YOU, Kaleb, and Pep Boys!!! I appreciate all the effort and certainly all the work of replacing the bulb!! *As I would have never thought to pull the thing out of the roof and with such a tiny space I could see a long frustrating process in my weekend. My car was giving my issues on a Sunday, and Pep Boys was about the only place that was open. The sales people were very helpful and efficient, and my car was fixed very rapidly. I had the battery replaced, the oil changed and new wipers put on the car. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I bought 4 new tires about 6 months ago. We paid extra for the tire warranty for no charge fixes/replacements (they charge $20 to fix a flat, crazy!). Had a flat so we went in at about 7 pm on a Monday evening. No other customers. We waited 1.5 hours for them to fix one flat! It took the tech half an hour just to get to our truck into the bay, then another 45 minutes to fix a simple flat. He was incredibly slow. The clerk then sold us 2 wiper blades for $15 each w install, way over priced but we needed them. When we went to check out, she tried to charge me for the tire repair too, even though she said it was covered when they took the truck in. She adjusted the price after I complained. I regret having bought the tires from Pep Boys to begin with. The set of 4 tires were over $850. Their service is horrible. The employees all seem to be in slow mode, very un-enthused. They have employee targeted signs all over the bays to pressure them into meeting sales goals, despite the fact they have no ability to answer any questions specific to their products. Go somewhere else where else you can be treated like a real customer. read more

The service center is a joke they will try to screw you over completely. Friend took her car in to get alignment done. They said it would be $1300 to fix it to do an alignment. Now we understand things need to get fixed to do the alignment that's not the problem the problem is the 265% mark up on the over the counter parts. Not dealer parts or anything special parts that every parts store will have. There labor rate is right up there with dealer rates. Take your car someplace else to honest people, not them that just try to screw people over. And especially women stay away they will try to do this to you just because they think you don't know any better. read more

Dont waster your time at this location. In less than a month my car was there 3 times and was misdiagnosed until the very end. I ended up spending $748 getting my car fixed only for it to keep messing up and me having to come back cause it would stsrting messing up again. Finally figured out what problem is and would "require me a new engine". If i had known I wouldnt have spent all my money with them. Had a pair of 18" tires from TireRack mounted and balanced for $35.40 -- better than Discount Tire's $50 price. After a short discussion, they even hand tightened the lug nuts, aka no air wrench tightening (to reduce/prevent warping of the brake rotors). They were nice, helpful, relatively quick and did well with this task, as well as with other questions/issues that I had. I would come here again. And recommend to my friends/family. read more

Always come here for quick friendly service. Never disappointed with their work. The reason for 4 out of 5 stars is because the prices of the parts and service are quite a bit higher than the other part stores in the immediate area. Once again, here I am to review and cannot give ZERO stars. It is months after the fact though, as my mother passed away. I have had NO time to address this BS yet don't want to see it a happen to anyone else. I really thought after my last review, and you demoting the blonde female manager, and replacing her with the person I suggested, Caleb, everything would straighten out over there. It would seem that Caleb has now become "one of them". He has obviously been corrupted. My relatively new (2-3 mos old) tires were feathering. Caleb came out from the back, rather aggressively, asking me if I had hit a curb or pothole and insisting that I had done something to damage the car. I hit nothing with my car and told him so. It became clear that in order to shirk responsibility for the damage THEY did to my vehicle while in their possession, they were on the attack, MORE than insinuating I was at fault. It was obvious they knew what they had done and were trying to cover by blaming the customer. Upon further investigation, I BELIEVE that Pep Boys is responsible for my car falling off the jack. I have contacted the family attorney and will make a complaint to the BBB. I will never go to Pep Boys again and those of you reading, should beware of this type of business tactic. *Caleb, I was instrumental in having you promoted, I can be instrumental in having you demoted as well.
