Avoid this location if you value your safety, your money, and honest communication. I brought my 2024 Nissan Pathfinder to this Pep Boys because of tire issues and was told I needed three new tires. I agreed and paid for three replacement tires, trusting that the work had been completed properly. One week later, the driver-side front tire had low pressure again, so I returned. That's when serious red flags started appearing. I was told there was a nail in the sidewall of the tire -- in essentially the same location as the tire I had originally been told was replaced. I questioned whether the tire was actually new and asked that the tread depth be checked in front of me. The measurement raised immediate concerns and did not appear consistent with what I expected from a newly installed tire. What made this even worse was the response afterward. I could not get a clear explanation of what had actually been done to my vehicle. I was told there was no detailed documentation identifying exactly which tire positions had been replaced. Think about that for a second: I paid for multiple tires, raised concerns about the work, and management could not clearly verify or explain what had been performed. This is not a minor customer service complaint. Tires are a safety issue. People put their families in these vehicles. I transport my children in this car, and the idea that there could be uncertainty surrounding work performed on something as critical as tires is unacceptable. To make matters even worse, after filing a formal complaint and waiting over a month, I received absolutely no meaningful follow-up. No urgency, no accountability, and no effort to address concerns that involved potential safety issues. I have completely lost trust in this location. My experience left me questioning whether the work I paid for was actually performed and whether customer concerns are taken seriously at all. I dropped off my truck off at noon for 2 very clear issues (gas cap issues and a squeak when turning left). 5 hours later I had to call in for an update only to be told they couldn't hear the issue I mentioned and that they solved the gas cap issue. Both were absolute lies as I drove home with the very same gas cap alert with a nice squeak at every left turn. Had new tires installed. When completed the tires were over inflated. Torque was set to 100 ft lbs but should have been 83 ft lbs. Missing lug nut. Either the over inflated tires caused the tire sensor light to blink or the tire sensor was damaged during the tire change, or tire sensor battery went dead on that same day the tires were changed. This was my only bad experience at this location. In the past I had a positive experience. I had a tire with a slow leak that they checked at no cost. Another time I came in with a check engine light. Because the vehicle was still in warranty, they recommended I go to the dealership to get a warranty repair. read more

The service manager Brian gave me a window of 45 minutes to an hour. Arrived a little early on a Friday morning and was out of here in less than an hour. I had the best experience at Pep Boys in Old Bridge, Parlin NJ. I needed an oil change for my Genesis 5.0 R spec. The customer service provided by Greg, Mike, and Tim was exceptional. I was denied oil changes from other locations due to the oil and filter. As I was speaking with one of the representatives, he reviewed his stock/inventory to assist me and all three came together and provided excellent service, and education on my vehicle's specifications. I called to get a flat tire changed/replaced. They told me to make an appointment. I called and made an appointment for 4 o'clock. They took my name and scheduled me for an appointment for 4 o'clock. I drive there and they say "yeah we can't see you today, we have no appointments..."the lady behind the desk was completely indifferent that she just wasted my time. No call. No cancellation. I drove in an unsafe vehicle to get my flat tire fixed and they just flat out refused to see me even AFTER making an "appointment". I have never seen such unprofessionalism before in my life. Such indifference. I asked what the purpose of taking appointments was if they would just cancel them and not even inform the customer about such cancellation. "Well, it's kind of like going to the doctors. You make an appointment and they see you when they can...." I said that is absolutely not what it is like... Scheduled an appointment and was given a price for a set of 4 new tires. I was told when I come in they install them, and I'll be on my way. Sounds easy enough right? WRONG?! So I get there and they get started, what should have been 45 mins the most turned into 3-4 hrs. They didn't have the tires I was told they have for me, they sent someone over to deliver them from elsewhere; only to return with the wrong tires‍. Then they try to finesse you with higher priced tires that they already installed on the vehicle. I'm a patient guy so I gave the benefit of the doubt. I told them to put original tires back on and minutes after I tell them that, they magically get a call that the right tires are coming. NOPE! Wish I could give them a negative review as well! I ordered tires online, checked to see they were in-stock at that location, and then scheduled an appointment to have the tires put on. The "earliest" was Noon and this was at 7:30 AM. When you get there "those" tires aren't in stock, but they are too happy to sell you a different tire at a much higher price. The only 'good' news was I came upon Firestone Complete Auto Care over in East Brunswick behind the mall, and am happy to say I would definitely go back. The tires they advertise as "in stock" ARE actually in stock, prices are comparable, and Jeff, the gentleman who answered the phone, was extremely polite and professional. This was the most bizarre experience I have ever had at a service shop of any kind. I called Steve early in the day asking very specific questions about my tire. Giving him the make and model of the car...he tells me..no problem we have them in stock. I have a friend remove my tire get a vehicle to put it, drive it there and carry the tire into the shop. The guy behind the counter is not just devoid of social skills and communication skills but he's nasty to boot he proceeds to tell me it's not in stock calls Steve he comes out and says it's not in stock. No sign of caring one bit that he lied to me or what I went through to get there. I had to leave the tire there no call for 4 hours I call Mr personality and he tells me he ordered a tire it's 250 dollars if I don't like that he will put the old tire back on the rim. This place is the worst kind of criminal. My mom an elderly, disabled woman cane in here to get a head light changed in Chevy equinox. They charged her a $100. They said they had to take down the bump. Any tech savvy kid can google how to change this bulb and see it literally takes ten minutes and does not require the removal of a bumper. I called Brian, the scoundrel identifying himself as the manager and he tried to convince me he owned the same car and that this was the price and that he had in fact given my mom a deal. I went to this location for an alternator replacement. After two days, I was called in to pick up my car. Within minutes upon leaving, all the warning lights flashed back on again, and I immediately returned to see what was wrong. The manager took a look, and assured me the problem was merely a blown fuse, which he replaced. Upon leaving the location again, the warning lights immediately flashed on, and within several minutes my car broke down completely. I ended up having my car taken to a Honda, where I was informed the new alternator Pep Boys had installed was faulty and not sending power to the battery. Honda replaced it with one that works properly, and gave me the one Pep Boys had installed so I could return it. Pep Boys of Parlin refused to refund me my $1,145, however, even though I had the actual physical part they installed. Apparently, the lifetime warranty they gave me for alternators meant that I was ineligible for cash refunds. The problem is that I never specifically asked for a lifetime warranty, nor did I know it would bar me from getting refunded for their botched job. I got the second replacement done at Honda because I didn't have any more faith in the judgement or competence of the people back at Pep Boys. I feel as though Pep Boys, specifically manager Brian Valania, just wanted to get me to pay and hustle me out the door as quickly as possible. The first day I was there (I had dropped the car off first thing in the morning, so they had been working on it all day), somebody at the desk admitted they were having trouble with my Honda and that they were going to have a technician look at it the following day. That's why I was surprised when they called me so early the next morning claiming the car was done, presumably less than two hours after opening. If they weren't actively trying to rip me off knowing they wouldn't have to pay a refund, then they were extremely careless not to check that the alternator wasn't sending power to the battery. Their lifetime warranty offer is irrelevant to me, because I'm obviously not going to gamble on my vehicle's safety leaving it in the care of people who are so hasty and incompetent in their work. I could've gotten into a serious accident literally minutes after being told that my car was safe to drive by Brian Valania of Pep Boys. read more

Completely useless. Needed to get a headlight changed for the last 2 weeks. Everytime I went in there, there were no customers, no bays open, and the manager was just playing on his cell phone. He said they were swamped with appointments until the afternoon.. If I went there on a friday he would say there was nothing available till monday.. So I called up today to hear a guy tell me I could come in this afternoon and get it done, in and out no problem. Got there only to be told they were busy again all day and all weekend and wouldnt be able to do it til monday. Again no customers waiting. I went next store to advance auto parts and bought the part and changed it myself and bought groceries with the money I saved. In November i went here to get a lightbulb changed in my headlight. I had the bulb but could not change the bulb. They wanted to charge me $55 just to change the light. Twice I received estimates for things that were over charged. 1- install break light - told me it was $165 because it was hard to put in. (Autozone couldn't do) said they had to take it apart. Didn't get it done. Got an oil change elsewhere and the guy did it for $10. 2- muffler and exhaust cracked quoted me $800. Went elsewhere and it cost $385 with oil change. I will never go back to them again. Never leave reviews but I am disturbed by the prices I was given. read more

Needed tires put on my wife's mountaineer, scheduled online the day before for an 8am appointment the next day. Store opens at 7am but mechanic doesn't come in until 8am. Got there early and talked to the service desk associate, dropped off the keys and gave instructions. Place looks new on inside and the waiting are is ample for approximately 4 customers to wait. There is a tv, coffee, and a soda machine. A little after 8am the mechanic showed up and it took him about 15-20 mins to get situated before taking my car which was the first scheduled one. At that point I went next door to the auto parts store to pickup some other things that pepboys didn't have. Came back waited around in the break area to about 9:40am and the truck was done. All in all the process took a little under 2hrs. Given there was only one mechanic working I don't think it was a bad experience but can see where other people might get frustrated with the wait times if there is a lot of work that comes in. While I was waiting numerous people came in with nails in their tires wanting patches or plugs, according the to associate pepboys only allows plugs so if you want to patch a tire they won't do it there. Also people have the expectation that they are priority and jump everyone else. The service associate repeatedly had to tell people that there are scheduled appointment cars in front of them and they need to wait. All and all it's not the mechanic or service peoples fault rather the lack of resources at this location which to me screams the franchise owner. My experience was a good one the facility could definitely improve by having more staff, they should have also bought out the other side and sold parts and supplies to consumers as they are missing out on that business. For under $450 I was able to get 4 new suv tires installed. read more

What horrible customer service. I had a 10 am appointment today at your Old Bridge/Parlin store for a high mileage oil change. I got there at 10 am and was told I would have to wait several HOURS for my appointment. 5 other people had the same appointment. FALSE ADVERTISING. Making an appointment is useless. The guys here are amazing professionals! Mechanics get bad reps bc they cheat people out of money by over charging or making people think they need crap that they don't. The guys here are totally opposite. They have always been honest with me and even told me what I don't need when other greedy mechanics have told me I needed or I'm gonna be stranded on the road somewhere in the rain, etc. I'll put it this way- there are pep boys all over the place right? I drive over 30 miles JUST TO deal with the guys at the rt 9 old bridge location. They have a pretty nice flat screen, AC and a coffee machine so waiting for your car is a good experience as well. They always check with you before they do any work and don't pressure you into getting something done. They also let you know of any promotions currently going on to save money. I would recommend them to anyone who wants good work and an honest opinion. read more
