Dear Sirs, On April 17 2026 I had my tires replaced by your store (#0708) ( work order 222857). first of all the tires we not purchased at pep boys and that i was only using you store to have them installed. Upon arrival at the store my vehicle (2017 BMW X5M - VIN 5ymkt6c33hou39186) was in perfect working order with smooth and powerful acceleration. The vehicle was left with the General Manager (Dan S). According to the work order the tires were installed by your employee Josiah A. Upon leaving the facility, within 200 yards i noticed an immediate issue with poor traction, and a distinct vibration coming from the rear of the vehicle. I returned the next day (April 18th)and again spoke with the General Manager. He suggested that perhaps the tires were not balanced correctly and offered that i bring my vehicle back in on that next Monday on April 21st. I returned to vehicle on that date, and the Gneral Manager stated the tires had been rebalanced and that there was nothing else he could do. I again left the facility and again within 200 yards noticed the same issue as before. On April 23rd yesterday, I had an routine appointment to have my BMW X5M brakes serviced at a certified BMW repair shop here in Reno and asked them to take another look at the vibration and loss of power train traction. The owner (certified BMW mechanic) immediately noticed that the rear end of the vehicle had been "torqued" beyond factor specifications. His obvious opinion that the car had been taken beyond its normal driving pattern and that significant damage had been done to the drive train and rear end of the vehicle. It is quite simple explantion: you employee had taken a high end expensive and very powerful vehicle to a "joy ride" after the tires we installed. That your employee has done significant damage to a very expensive vehicle (MSRP $130,000). The damage will most likely be into the THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. I am reaching out to legal representation. I am also reaching out to your regional manager of the Reno area immediately. I am also going to copy and paste this email to every and any social media website and online reviews in the area to let you everyone know that your employees and your company caused significant damage to my vehicle. Do not try to say: "Sorry sir, let us give you a free oil change." or "Well, because you did not buy the tires from us, we are not responsible for the ride quality." THE DAMAGE DONE TO MY VEHICLE WAS FROM YOU COMPANY'S NEGLECT AND POOR MANAGEMENT AND YOUR EMPLOYEES AND STORE. THIS IS BEYOND DISPUTE! I expect a phone call today to discuss how your company will pay for the damage to my vehicle that you caused. I called on Monday shopping for tires. We finally settled on some that would come in on Wednesday. Scheduled Thursday AM for installation, due to the one guy who knows how to install tires was gone til then. I show up Thursday morning to drop off the car. The tire installer said he had 6 cars ahead of me. Then he calls me and says the inventory was messed up, and they only had 3 tires. I've been waiting all week. How does a tire shop only have 1 guy who knows how to install tires?? I call them and tell them I'm just going to pick up my truck, I walk in the guy asks me "what did you decide?" I had just called and said I want my truck back, I need to get to work... now I'm waiting here in the lobby 20+ minutes to get my truck off the rack. This place has gone extremely down hill. Not worth the time and headache. Seams like there's no communication and nobody to get work done. I called another tire shop and so far they were extremely helpful in selecting tires they have in stock and ready to get me on the road asap. I will be heading there. Wish I went there 3 days ago. Took my vehicle in to get a quote on what it would be to have my air-conditioning repaired. Was told it would two hours. It was four hours and when I went to go pick up the vehicle after they told me the quote was ready. They had nothing in writing and said they would let me know through email call or a text. Waited a week called back. They had no history that they had even looked at the vehicle. Had nothing in writing for me. Horrible customer service and follow through would not take a bicycle to them. very poor quality and work and follow through for their quotes which was we were charged $80 for and got absolutely nothing. read more

I'd like to share my experience with Pep Boys on South Virginia. They did an outstanding job addressing the squeaky noise in my car. The team replaced the bolt in my alternator and took their time to ensure everything was done correctly. I had visited two other mechanics before them, but the problem persisted with my serpentine belt slipping, which was both aggravating and embarrassing. DO.NOT.USE.THIS.PLACE! I'm a person that looks at the positive in things, but this is a place that makes it very difficult to look past. Here are the things I experienced: Dropped car off on FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON. (This is key) 1. I walk in. No one says hi. The greeting was the manager just looking at me waiting to talk. wtf 2. I asked them to look over and inspect the entire car thoroughly and check the brakes, tires, and engine. They come back and tell me THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING, and that I need all 4 brakes and 2 tires because they're level 3. 3. After a 20 min phone call they tell me the cost in $1200+ and that they did everything I asked. They misread something, put me on hold, then go and check out my car again to give me a completely different quote. 4. I change things up a little on what to do. They claim they made "great discounts." They proceed with the job 5. Its Saturday evening and we haven't received a call. We call them and they say, "Oh it just finished a couple minutes ago." They tell us to come pick it up. Its about 10 min before they close and we tell them we can't make it. 6. Several times on two separate phone calls asked and told us to pay with the mobile app about 7 times. We told them we're not going to because we want to see the car. Said that about 7 times but they really wanted the mechanic to get paid 7. Show up Sunday morning to get the car only to see that our car for some reason is in front of the shop with the hood popped. The front desk person doesn't know why. She comes back after talking to them and tells us that they're cleaning out the battery filth that builds up around the batteries. She proceeds to tell us that they do this with every car they do when they get it. They didn't clean the batteries because THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A DEALERSHIP CAR! You realize I asked them to do a thorough check to make sure everything is looking good and they claimed THEY DID! Well, the engine is under the hood and if you actually inspected it, you would've seen the battery filth that is right next to the engine. So now we have to comeback a 2nd time to get the car because its STILL being worked on! 8. I comeback to pick it up on SUNDAY AFTERNOON and I let them have it. How can I as a customer trust these incompetent people when they're just looking for the next dollar and lying to me? If people give this place something above a 1 star, that means they have a friend or relative working here and want to get them a raise. Thats a fact. DO NOT USE!!!! This place is run like children running a Chuck E Cheese. Look how many 1 star reviews they've gotten in the past 6 months. This place is a egregious. She just talked in circles every time we brought it up. We were clearly unhappy and the manager watched on without ever coming over. Went here to get an oil change. They said they found a nail in my tire that was unrepairable and told me I needed new tires since the one couldn't be fixed. They also told me that my tire treads on all tires were 4/32 and are ready to be replaced or it could be dangerous to drive. I thought to myself that the nail in the tire looks repairable and my tires have a lot of tread so how can they be that used already. I went to another shop in town and they said the tire was easily repairable. They did it for free and also said my tires are 7/32 tread and have plenty of thread. Stay away from pep boys. They are trying to sell you tires/ extra services and are untrustworthy. Dan and his tech is the one who handled this and should be let go. read more

This has got to be the worse Auto Service place in town. Appointment was scheduled since last week for today at 9 am. I drop it off at 845 am. Dan states it's going to be a while since it's just one guy. (It's only ever one guy, almost 2 years that I've been taking it and it's the same excuse) I call at 345 to see if I can pick it up and they say another 45 minutes. I get to the shop and it's barely on the racks getting worked on. I didn't get my truck till 5:07PM. At what point do you guys take accountability and either schedule your appointments accordingly until you hire more people or don't even bother giving appointments. Instead of sending the same automatic message to your bad reviews. And having the same excuse that you only have 1 person working is not good enough nor professional enough. You guys are a large corporation, you know this isn't good business.. Either shut down completely so my company can go elsewhere or only take appointments. If I could go anywhere else I would! If I could give them negative stars I would they told me 45 minutes at 3 o'clock when I arrived. I didn't leave the store till 615. It took them three hours to dismount and mount and balance for tires and fed me a bunch of bullshit on why the tires took so long they also didn't give a discount and they scratched the shit out of my wheels. Why was there for the three hours? I observed the workers standing around bullshitting one of the workers stepped out and had a cigarette break probably three times highly recommend going somewhere else. On the way back from Sparks, my battery light came on in my 2011 Honda cross tour. The car started balking and felt like it was going to stop any minute. Fortunately, I made it to Pep Boys, and the service was excellent. They got me in quickly. It took a while to do the diagnostic, but it was clearly thorough and they discovered I needed a new alternator or, a replacement for my aged battery, and a drive belt. I left the car and received got a message that it would be ready at five. They called it for that it was ready and I went and picked it up. I know this store has gotten poor reviews in the past, and I mentioned this to Robert, the very efficient, assistant, service manager, and he said they knew that, and he and another person had been sent to the store to correct the deficiencies I would say they're doing a good job, and I would not let the current low rating put you off from going there. I was very impressed including that I applied for a credit card which resulted in a $50 discount, +0% financing for one year . I endorse Pep Boys completely. read more

Went to pep boys bought new tires for my truck and also purchased the road hazard warranty..with in a week I got a nail in the sidewall of my tire they had to put on a new tire...then they charged me $ 130.00 for mounting and balancing plus pro rated the tire which had less than 100 miles on it. Now I'm getting a vibration from the replacement tire and they want to charge me for rebalancing. The place is a rip off and I will Never purchase anything from them again.! read more

I felt like they were taking vantage of the fact that I am not knowledgeable about cars. They also gave me a huge quote for a small job, I called another mechanic and they were able to do for less than half. I've been in here twice and felt the same way both times and the first time I waited 8 hours for an alignment. Had someone answering phones who apparently "doesn't work in this location" and gave us wrong information about brakes that ended up costing us over $1000 for something that was promised as $275 per axle. Then they brought out tech to confirm prices and when we pointed out differences in subtotal to the bill we were handed, he talked down to us like we were idiots. I live in CA, and my family frequently visits Reno. Our car broke on Saturday afternoon, July 6th, and, after troubleshooting , needed a new alternator. AAA picked me up in the car and suggested this shop for repairs. I dropped off the car, and the manager said it would be ready on Sunday but also needed a new battery. Sunday morning went by, so I called and was told the wrong alternator showed up and the right one was on the way. I called the shop again at 4pm'ish and was told it would be ready soon so I took a cab. The store closes at 6pm, I was waiting until 6:30pm and finally the car was ready. Got home ND took my car to our local mechanic who reminded me we just replaced the battery last year and it's still in the car...Pepboys did not put in a new battery but they did charge me. I called, and the manager apologized and would have it refunded. That was on July 9th. It's been a month now and no refund. I've made two attempts to contact this shop, but there was no answer. They do take Synchrony Car Care credit at the 5000 Smithridge location, which was a plus for me today. I changed from 3-5 stars after seeing my rating was too low. Service was horrible. I will never use Pep Boys at Smithridge Plaza location again for an oil change. Here's why: I called a day before to set up an appointment to do a simple oil change, nothing more. On average, should take between 20 - 40 minutes. I show up at 1pm. The gentlemen at the counter told me they were a little backed up. Fair enough, but he told me he'd call me around 1:20pm to let me know status. I run some errands and because they are backed up, I understand. However, 2:35pm rolls around and still no call. I call back and they tell me that my car is still in queue. I show back up, which at this point it's 2:55pm. My car still has not been brought into one of the bays. Not until, 4:05pm is my "oil change" completed. There's no apology and they still try to upsell me on what else I could purchase from them based on their assessment. Seriously? What was the purpose of even setting an appointment? I agree with many of the people reviewing this place. It's not good and the service is sub-par. To be fair, I may have caught it on a bad day, but definitely created a bad impression to where I would certainly not recommend using them. And in the future, if they should consider offering courtesy calls to customers who have appointments if they know their backed up so customers can plan their day or look for alternatives. read more

I would not use this repair shop unless I had absolutely no other choice. The staff were unprepared to manage the amount of work they had, the check in/out process was far too tedious and cost me over a half hour, the original estimate given to me was half the total I ultimately was billed for (for the same scope of work), I had to repeatedly call for updates, and despite my initial communication that I needed the repair done fast or I would go elsewhere, a simple radiator swap took two days which kept me stranded in Reno for an extra day waiting for the repair to be done. This shop is in a tough spot. My experience there tells me some staff members should be terminated because they refuse to help, others need much more training, and they need more experienced mechanics to meet the service demand. None of this is an easy overnight fix and a good reason to avoid this shop. Hiring a new/better manager is a good start. Hope they get it figured out before they go out of business. read more

In July I had problems with my air conditioner in my 2010 F350, so I took it to Pep Boys in Reno. After 3 different days where they attempted to fix the problem, and $1,100 dollars later, they sent me to the Sparks location, where they were able to get the air conditioner working for a few hours before it again failed. I called them to schedule another appointment in Sparks, and after 20 minutes on hold I decided to leave a message. No one called me back. Over the next week I left messages 3 different times explaining my situation and asking for a call back, and again, no call back. Absolutely awful. Not able to make the repair, and no interest in talking to me to make another attempt at fixing the problem. $1,100 and hours of my time wasted. read more

A girl (the one with a cut in her eyebrow) told me I didn't even need to make an appointment on the app. To just come in next time. Ok, noted. Fast forward a year, and to a few days ago. I come in to the same location, only to have a bigger man ask me, "Did you make an appointment on the Lyft app?" I told him, "No", and that "the last time I came in, the girl told me I didn't need it." He laughed annoyingly, and said I did in fact need an appointment... made on the app...that it did matter, and to make the appointment next time. Same girl standing right by him...but I didn't mention to him what she'd said before. Ok, noted. He looked at the car and determined it needed new front tires to pass. Insert eye roll here.. Fast forward a few days... after getting new tires...I come again. I made. An. Appointment. The girl is there but no big guy this time. I told her I made an appointment on the Lyft app and AGAIN, she tells me "well that doesn't matter." I tell her, "the last guy told me to do it, and you keep telling me not to?! He told me to make it, you were right there!?" She laughed...insert pissed off face here...and repeated herself that making an appointment, on the app, did not matter. I have been a loyal customer of Pep Boys in Pasadena, CA for 30 years. Pep Boys was my trusted go-to car repair shop until last week when we went to Pep Boys in Reno, Nevada. What we asked Service Manager Bret to do: 1. Change oil 2. Belt. What Bret also did - all UNAUTHORIZED: 3. Replaced air filter $43 4. Replaced cabin air filter $41 5. Brake fluid 69 6. Tune up $219 7. Wiper blades $ 8. Changed all 4 tires that has lots of thread wear left, driven 12,000 miles only on a warranty of 48,000 miles, less than 2 years old. Bret claimed that tires "could blow up anytime." What a crook. Memo: * Bret was supposed to get my authority to do any repair. He never called me. * Instead, he called my daughter because he know that she was easy prey. * He did not call me, did not get my authorization. I consulted a lawyer to file a complaint with DMV and Nevada Attorney General. Luckily, Raul and his District Manager Charles came to the rescue and reversed unauthorized charges. I rate this location 1* but changed it to 3* because of Raul and Charles. read more

Pep Boys Auto Parts & Service is my go to place for my automotive needs. I have been coming to this Pep Boys since high school. So around 2001. I will have to say my experience here is usually good. I usually get the items I need to repair my vehicle here. Not all items but small and easy repairs like light bulbs, batteries, windshield wipers, tires, car cleaners, degreasers, oil, coolant, etc. I usually do most of what I consider easy to repair/replace items on my own vehicle. I guess I'm somewhat of a handyman. But I have always like doing my own repairs on the easy stuff. Staff is good and I have never really had any issue at the register. Items here are competitively priced and they do give a military discount. They will also do a battery test to see if your battery is to old. I usually take my car battery out and take it in when it gets a bit old. I usually check it around 3-5 years. I had a battery that lasted 7 years. It was a Japanese battery. Pretty good but most batteries here in the states last 3-5 years. I always make the date I bought the batter to give me a rough estimate. Also, it will give me a time stamp a few years down the road to see how long the battery last. Parking is ample and have never had an issues anytime of the year finding a spot. The mechanic shop is a hit or miss. It depends if they have the mechanics to work on your vehicle that day. Also, I would just recommend calling ahead of time to set up an appointment to get your vehicle checked out and I would recommend leaving it for the day if possible. All in all, my experience here has been good. I would recommend this Pep Boys to anyone. But get ready to get your hands dirty or pay the mechanics to check out your car. It is pricey but that's everywhere really. Some of these mechanical things can be done by yourself and you can save some money. Thanks for reading my review. read more

The shop has now become AutoZone. I went into simply grab a grease gun. I grabbed it and waited in line for 25 minutes. I was the only one in line. One employee was on the phone while the other was chatting with someone. When I asked simply to be checked out, they would continue to reply will get to you in a little bit. Ordering on Amazon and waiting at home would've been faster. In the end, I sent the grease gun down and walked out. read more

My sons car broke down, and he had it towed here. Ended up being a fuel pump/ gas tank issue. After getting it fixed and paying we were surprised by how expensive it was. Called around to get quotes from other garages and everyone came back about 1/3 the cost charged here. Also every other garage quoted out 1-2 hours of labor where they charged for seven hours here. I made an appointment online and got the price, etc. When I arrived they were very responsive and professional.
