I should've read the reviews... They nearly ruined my new tires and screwed up the wheel alignment because they apparently don't know what uni-directional tires are. I didn't notice right away because I assumed these guys knew what they were doing. A week later, my buddy sees the faulty installation and alerts me. Great. Now I need to go back to Pepboys to get it corrected, taking time out of work. The customer in front of me in line complained that his vehicle was left at Pepboys overnight with no update or response at end of previous business day, even after calling and emailing PepBoys. I Received brake inspection. Was diagnosed by PepBoys to get front and rear brake repair. So I Got a second estimate at a different local repair shop. 2nd shop explained rear brakes have 50%+ brake life remaining and recommended not to change rear brakes. I called back Pepboys San Carlos. Pepboys Employee seemed overwhelmed, stressed out. Told me he was swamped and said for me to go somewhere else for repairs. So I did. I needed brakes and called around a few places and some other places said they needed my car for a week and a half? Wow I called pep boys and spoke with Pedro and boy did he take care of me. He explained the process to me in great detail and knowing I would need my car by end of day to pickup my daughter from day care he kept in contact with me throughout the day and kept reassuring me that they would do their best to get my car done in time. Pedro delivered!!! I picked up my car at 5pm after they found further issues with the brakes and as luck would have it they had the part to finish the job. I called the store about 30 minutes before closing, asking if I could leave my car there overnight for a battery replacement. They said "sure, come on in", and when I got there, they had the battery on the counter and a technician available to swap it out on the spot. I went today and as I arrive in their parking lot my cell phone rings and he says there are no technicians to work on my car. He said he tried calling but calls went directly to voicemai. Here is what happened. I searched for car inspection, then google listed the 120 point car inspection from Pet Boys as a sponsored ads, I clicked through and made an appointment of 11:00am next day. Then Pet Boyds sent me an email to confirm that my appointment was scheduled. The next day, I spent 30 minutes drove to this location, there was barely any customers in the building, after 10 minutes of waiting, the receptionist told me that I need to bring my car in a different day, since there was no body handling this service right now. Rattling Engine after Oil Change (with an admission that too much oil was placed in the vehicle) Continuation........ After listening to him go on and on for a few; I interrupted and asked will you check my car to make sure you at least put enough oil in it? He replied yes drive it around to the side. In my mind, I am like this has to be a joke he's not going to at least test drive it to see what I am talking about or into the bay. I took the vehicle to the first bay, and when the technician pulled the dipstick out, I instantly knew that something was wrong via his facial expression. He waved for Mr. M to come over they began to whisper. Mr. M walked away came back and tested the oil himself when he took the dipstick out I could tell that something was wrong by his facial expression and hasty movement and they began to whisper even more. Mr. M then walked to the driver's window and said he's going to take care of you. The technician asked me to get out of the vehicle because he needed to drive it into the bay and on the lift because my vehicle had too much oil in it and he needed to drain it out. While my vehicle was on the lift, I witnessed them drain almost two quarts of oil or more out of my vehicle. Mr. M then repeatedly said the name of the person who was responsible for overfilling my vehicle. The technician said to me it wasn't me, I would have remembered the headlights I like them. I thanked him and was given the keys to the vehicle. In conclusion before leaving I asked Mr. M if I was good he stated yes it just had to much oil in it. I then said so the noise I'm hearing is the transmission he replied yes I would just take it back to whoever replaced it. I am sure that's what it is. Not once did he or a technician test drive or do a diagnostic on the vehicle nor did they provide any documentation to show that the vehicle had even been brought back either time. Luckily for me I do have my ducks in a row. Please Advise I am seeking to hear from Corporate with a resolution with this matter and my previous issue several months ago where I spent over $1300 in repairs to still have the same issue. May I also add that Mr. M has poor customer service skills (my opinion) he comes across as apathetic like he is annoyed and could care less what the customer is talking about. Went for a tire change back in April, George called to let me know my tire pressure sensor broke, their fault. When they replaced it with a universal sensor, the tire pressure light still came on and Pedro told me they would order one from a dealership and keep me posted. They told me it would be shipped in a month due to backorder and they would let me know when it gets there. It has been over a month and it still has yet to arrive. After no update, I had to call them for an update, where they mentioned they don't see any information on the item. I was previously a life long Pep Boys tires customer and fan. Not anymore. I've been going to this location since it was built. I've probably bought 10 sets of tires for myself, wife, kids and my business at this location. This particular store has been a roller coaster of good and very bad managment. I was really bummed when the closed the auto parts sales. But I wanted to continue to suppprt the Tire & Service side. That was a mistake. I didn't get past the front desk before I encountered rude customer service. This was a first time this happened and the last time. I shopped there so often I got to know some of the employees on the parts side. I heard many horror stories about how much they charge customers. People actually drop off their cars for service and have no idea what the final bill will be, just a ball park "esimate." CLUE: It will almost never be what the estimate was. DONT BE THAT PERSON. I once watched how they charged an elderly man $4500 to "fix" his car only to have it break down in the parking lot. I helped him for an hour, then helped him get it towed to another shop. DONT EVER LET THEM WORK ON YOUR CAR beyond MAYBE tires and wheels IF you cant make it another mile or so to get to one of the other major chains in the area. Their "mechanics" are just not qualified. I ended up going to l America's Tire in Redwood city and they gave me great prices and excellent service. Whomever was the portly long haired fella working the desk at the time.. Wow, this location has really gone down hill! My car needed an oil change and I've used this Pep Boys several times before so I didn't think to look at reviews or other locations. I called first thing Saturday morning when my light turned on and I was told I could bring my car in but it might not be looked at until the end of the day since other people had appointments. Understandable, but Pedro's condescending attitude seemed unnecessary. I brought it in, Pedro just asked for the keys and said it wouldn't be ready until 6pm. He didn't walk out to look at my car and when I told him where in the parking lot it was, he said, "yeah I'll find it"... I got a call around 3:30pm that my car was ready to pick up. Again, it was Pedro, he started talking very quickly and said that my CV axel on my passenger side was leaking fluid and I needed new tires because the tread was bad. He kept rambling on at a high pace and had to ask him to slow down and repeat the part about the CV axel. I asked how much it would cost to replace it... $888. I kept my composure and asked him to just do the oil change, no CV axel replacement. He said okay and that I could come pick it up. When I arrived I was given my keys and paid my bill. I asked to see the quote for the CV axel replacement. It reads, AND I KID YOU NOT... $434.40 - R&I Or R&R Axel Shaft - Right $261.47 - NEW CV SHAFT $99.99 - COMPUTERIZED WHEEL ALIGNMENT $75 - Starfire Solarus A S I'm no car buff but I definitely do my research to avoid situations like this. I was polite and got my keys and left. But, when I went outside, my car was no where to be found. This might be the worst run shop I've ever been to. I went in to have two tires replaced and they were under warranty. I called a few days ahead to have the tires ordered and at the shop. I called in the morning of the appointment (they never called me) and discovered the tires were not delivered. We decided I would come in later in the day but when I called to verify again if the tires were there they told me they were too busy to get to me. So I rescheduled for a few days out at 8 AM - specifically so I could get in and out in an hour. I arrived to find no workers there, just one guy overwhelmed at the register. I ended up having to leave my car for 5 hours. Then they messed up the prorate mileage warranty and when I called to discuss it they told me it was just wha their system said and maybe I couldn't do the math then hung up. Brutal. read more

I should have known better, I should have listened to my instinct and looked at the reviews. Instead I went by the recommendations of a friend and got service at Pep Boys. I came in in January 2022 to purchase tires for my 2018 Nissan Altima, I got my car back with the wheels all scratched up. I submitted a claim and didn't hear back until early march 2022. They said they would investigate the case, they called me the following day saying that there was insufficient evidence that the damage to the wheels was made the day that I took my car in to Pep Boys.They denied my claim and closed it without further investigation. Took my car to two different body shops. To recondition the wheels it's over $1000. If you have the extra money to just throw away like that for someone who is not responsible when doing their job, take your car to Pep Boys otherwise look for a different shop anywhere else is better than Pep Boys their work and service is not up to standard. NEVER GOING BACK TO PEPBOYS! Here we are again pepsocial reached out to me about my yelp review, they sent me an email saying they were opening the claim again on march 16. Pep Boys sent me a half dozen emails begging for a review. So I guess I will give a review. They replaced my battery. It is the same battery you can get anywhere else, but with a Pep Boys label on it. It will probably last me a few years. They installed it for free, but their promised "memory protection" did not, in fact, protect my memory and I had to reset things. This was expected. The experience was better than last time when they forgot to tighten any of my lugnuts after I had them re-do the tire rotation they had lied about doing. Even though this time I didn't let them go anywhere near my wheels, I still checked my lugnuts anyway because being down to only two out of five lugnuts on a heavy SUV at freeway speeds is really something you only do once before you check everything somebody does. Did I mention that the remaining two needed to be tightened as well? Yeah. Strangely I was never asked to do a review when I had that experience. I guess when you complain, you don't get asked to write a review? Surprisingly expensive oil change ( have a diesel pick-up and generally get oil changes for about $80. It was over @200 here. I was sort of captive so there was nothing I could do as I needed to get this done and some brake work before a long trip and they were the only place I could find available. I was there from 9AM to 1PM and it turned out I did not need any brake work so it took 4 hours to do an inspection, change my oil and rotate tires. The bays were only half full so I guess they were just slow rather than behind. I liked the guy who was helping me who was friendly and conversational but a little disappointed that it cost so much, my total bill was over $250 but I had a coupon that knocked it down by $22 dollars so that helps. Last, they could use better ventilation. There are so many plastic and rubber parts that in the store that the air burned my eyes. I took a little while to realize it and as soon as I went out side I could break better and my eyes stopped burning. I feel bad for the employees here who may be used to it but I doubt it was good for their health. I'd like to give the 4 stars for the honest service they gave me. I came in asking for brake work and they could have done it and charged me, or done nothing and charged me. Instead they came and got me, took me out to look at the breaks and told me I really did not need brake work at all. I really appreciate that.
