I should've read the reviews... They nearly ruined my new tires and screwed up the wheel alignment because they apparently don't know what uni-directional tires are. I didn't notice right away because I assumed these guys knew what they were doing. A week later, my buddy sees the faulty installation and alerts me. Great. He explained the process to me in great detail and knowing I would need my car by end of day to pickup my daughter from day care he kept in contact with me throughout the day and kept reassuring me that they would do their best to get my car done in time. Here is what happened. I searched for car inspection, then google listed the 120 point car inspection from Pet Boys as a sponsored ads, I clicked through and made an appointment of 11:00am next day. Then Pet Boyds sent me an email to confirm that my appointment was scheduled. The next day, I spent 30 minutes drove to this location, there was barely any customers in the building, after 10 minutes of waiting, the receptionist told me that I need to bring my car in a different day, since there was no body handling this service right now. My interaction with Julio the service department manager was deplorable. He got super butt hurt because I told him I left a yelp review, and instantly became dismissive. "Karen", yes , that's really her name yelled at me that I should have said I was next in line. Wtf? Are you kidding me? Then she proceeds to tell Julio I can call the police on her, do you want me to get her plate number. So I turn around and let her know I could wait for the police. At that point she slams the phone down and storms off. I really hope this location goes out of business. Rattling Engine after Oil Change (with an admission that too much oil was placed in the vehicle) Continuation........ [[HIGHLIGHT]]After listening to him go on and on for a few; I interrupted and asked will you check my car to make sure you at least put enough oil in it?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He replied yes drive it around to the side. In my mind, I am like this has to be a joke he's not going to at least test drive it to see what I am talking about or into the bay. I took the vehicle to the first bay, and when the technician pulled the dipstick out, I instantly knew that something was wrong via his facial expression. He waved for Mr. M to come over they began to whisper. Mr. M walked away came back and tested the oil himself when he took the dipstick out I could tell that something was wrong by his facial expression and hasty movement and they began to whisper even more. Mr. M then walked to the driver's window and said he's going to take care of you. The technician asked me to get out of the vehicle because he needed to drive it into the bay and on the lift because my vehicle had too much oil in it and he needed to drain it out. While my vehicle was on the lift, I witnessed them drain almost two quarts of oil or more out of my vehicle. Mr. M then repeatedly said the name of the person who was responsible for overfilling my vehicle. The technician said to me it wasn't me, I would have remembered the headlights I like them. I thanked him and was given the keys to the vehicle. In conclusion before leaving I asked Mr. M if I was good he stated yes it just had to much oil in it. I then said so the noise I'm hearing is the transmission he replied yes I would just take it back to whoever replaced it. I am sure that's what it is. Not once did he or a technician test drive or do a diagnostic on the vehicle nor did they provide any documentation to show that the vehicle had even been brought back either time. Luckily for me I do have my ducks in a row. Please Advise I am seeking to hear from Corporate with a resolution with this matter and my previous issue several months ago where I spent over $1300 in repairs to still have the same issue. When they replaced it with a universal sensor, the tire pressure light still came on and Pedro told me they would order one from a dealership and keep me posted. I was previously a life long Pep Boys tires customer and fan. Not anymore. I've been going to this location since it was built. I've probably bought 10 sets of tires for myself, wife, kids and my business at this location. This particular store has been a roller coaster of good and very bad managment. I was really bummed when the closed the auto parts sales. But I wanted to continue to suppprt the Tire & Service side. That was a mistake. I didn't get past the front desk before I encountered rude customer service. This was a first time this happened and the last time. I shopped there so often I got to know some of the employees on the parts side. I heard many horror stories about how much they charge customers. People actually drop off their cars for service and have no idea what the final bill will be, just a ball park "esimate." CLUE: It will almost never be what the estimate was. DONT BE THAT PERSON. I once watched how they charged an elderly man $4500 to "fix" his car only to have it break down in the parking lot. I helped him for an hour, then helped him get it towed to another shop. DONT EVER LET THEM WORK ON YOUR CAR beyond MAYBE tires and wheels IF you cant make it another mile or so to get to one of the other major chains in the area. Their "mechanics" are just not qualified. I ended up going to l America's Tire in Redwood city and they gave me great prices and excellent service. Whomever was the portly long haired fella working the desk at the time.. Wow, this location has really gone down hill! My car needed an oil change and I've used this Pep Boys several times before so I didn't think to look at reviews or other locations. I called first thing Saturday morning when my light turned on and I was told I could bring my car in but it might not be looked at until the end of the day since other people had appointments. Understandable, but Pedro's condescending attitude seemed unnecessary. I brought it in, Pedro just asked for the keys and said it wouldn't be ready until 6pm. He didn't walk out to look at my car and when I told him where in the parking lot it was, he said, "yeah I'll find it"... I got a call around 3:30pm that my car was ready to pick up. Again, it was Pedro, he started talking very quickly and said that my CV axel on my passenger side was leaking fluid and I needed new tires because the tread was bad. He kept rambling on at a high pace and had to ask him to slow down and repeat the part about the CV axel. I asked how much it would cost to replace it... $888. I kept my composure and asked him to just do the oil change, no CV axel replacement. He said okay and that I could come pick it up. When I arrived I was given my keys and paid my bill. I asked to see the quote for the CV axel replacement. I should have known better, I should have listened to my instinct and looked at the reviews. Instead I went by the recommendations of a friend and got service at Pep Boys. I came in in January 2022 to purchase tires for my 2018 Nissan Altima, I got my car back with the wheels all scratched up. I submitted a claim and didn't hear back until early march 2022. They said they would investigate the case, they called me the following day saying that there was insufficient evidence that the damage to the wheels was made the day that I took my car in to Pep Boys.They denied my claim and closed it without further investigation. Took my car to two different body shops. To recondition the wheels it's over $1000. If you have the extra money to just throw away like that for someone who is not responsible when doing their job, take your car to Pep Boys otherwise look for a different shop anywhere else is better than Pep Boys their work and service is not up to standard. Pep Boys sent me a half dozen emails begging for a review. So I guess I will give a review. They replaced my battery. It is the same battery you can get anywhere else, but with a Pep Boys label on it. It will probably last me a few years. They installed it for free, but their promised "memory protection" did not, in fact, protect my memory and I had to reset things. This was expected. The experience was better than last time when they forgot to tighten any of my lugnuts after I had them re-do the tire rotation they had lied about doing. Even though this time I didn't let them go anywhere near my wheels, I still checked my lugnuts anyway because being down to only two out of five lugnuts on a heavy SUV at freeway speeds is really something you only do once before you check everything somebody does. Did I mention that the remaining two needed to be tightened as well? Yeah. Strangely I was never asked to do a review when I had that experience.
