I found a screw in my tire about a month ago so I had it towed to the Pep Boys in Burien to patch it. About a week and a half ago I noticed a slow leak so I brought it to this Pep Boys in Ballard to see if I had another puncture or if it was from the patch. Apparently it was from the patch so these guys ordered me a completely new tire FREE of charge. This seems above and beyond considering I hadn't purchased the original tire from Pep Boys so I was very surprised. I am very appreciative of their customer service, the whole experience was great. I booked the appointment online and from the moment I walked in, one of the men at the desk made it very clear he was annoyed. The first thing the man working the front desk said to me was that I should have called them first to let them know I was coming in because they don't get notified when people book online. They also said the appointment time I booked was not allowed because mechanics were on lunch break and they would have to squeeze me in. It seems like there's a huge flaw in their system where even though I booked online through the pep boys website, the booking itself is through a third party. It doesn't seem like the customers responsibility to know to call and let them know you booked online, even though I received a confirmation email from pep boys confirming my appointment. The man's demeanor at the front desk was overall offputting from the moment I walked in. They also were unable to find my actual appointment, despite the confirmation email I received. The other man at the desk was very helpful and polite but it was a lot of back and forth and overall a difficult and unpleasant experience. read more

I came here on 07/06/18 to get a few headlight bulbs replaced and had a wonderful experience. Suzy at the front desk was great she was conscientious of my budget (I only had a certain amount of cash on hand to pay for the bill since I lost my wallet the day prior). They were fast and professional, I spoke with one of their guys in the back when my car was finished. He was extremely friendly (we both talked about moving here from Chicago) He let me know what work had been completed and what things could wait to be taken care of in the future. They didn't over charge or pressure me into any unnecessary services like Jiffy Lube normally does. That's the reason I get nervous bringing in my car into these shops, they see a female they can take advantage of. Fast service, honest people, awesome customer service. I've been going here for oil changes and regular maintenance for over a year now (after ownership changed). They're polite over the phone and in-person and won't up-sell you. You can request an appointment online and they'll take care of it. If they spot anything new or unusual as they work on your car, they'll call you and ask before they do it. And they're totally cool if you say no to add-ons. And they accept coupons I find online without fuss. When I visited during the pandemic, employee I interacted with was wearing a mask properly and hand sanitizer was available. The customer waiting area isn't much to speak about (TV, a few seats), but I've never actually waited there. I had a super TERRIBLE customer experience!! I have a Chevrolet Malibu 2015. Today I went to a Pep Boys store in Seattle (5601 15th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107) to do a diagnostic for fixing the engine light issue of my car since yesterday it happened to me once that the car cannot accelerate well. They did a diagnostic on my car and showed me the report indicating that I need to fix/replace the intake manifold, and this is the only problem. They wanted to charge me 605 dollars for the repair including diagnostic fee. I think that is too much so I paid the diagnostic fee (121) , called the dealership and planned to go there for the fix. However, when I left after like 5 minutes, the dashboard started showing "engine power is reduced". I almost met a traffic accident because the car stopped in the middle of the road and the accelerator didn't work. Then I decided to go back and let them fix it, after waiting for 2 hrs they came to me and told me the engine condition is very bad!!!? There are 30+ codes and this is beyond their scope. They asked me to tow my car to the dealership and find what those people say. They returned the diagnostic fee (121) but I called a towing truck and waited here after all the people went home. This is a super horrible customer experience. Before I came to Pep Boys, I had my engine light on for some time and the accelerating issue only happened to me once which doesn't influence normal driving. I wanted to fix the engine light issue but I ended up getting a broken car. The entire process is like a black box and I was not allowed to come inside to see how they manipulate my car. The only thing I know is that my car broke down in the store. Even the workers' capability of diagnosing and repairing cannot be trusted, at least they should return me the car as it was before. We noticed a bubble in one of our tires and called a bunch of other places to see if they could get it fixed. Everywhere else (Les Schwab, Discount Tire) was booked up, but Chris managed to squeeze us in right at the end of the day, and even stayed a little late to make sure we were all set to go! I recently purchased a used 2017 SUV and since it came with run flat tires, and I don't like the ride or bad weather handling of run flat's, I purchased a new set of high quality all season tires from tire rack and had them sent to Pep Boys for mounting. When I came to have them mounted I didn't realize that the SUV that I purchased had wheel locks and I had no key. The guys at Pep Boys were very nice about the inconvenience and I got rescheduled after I got a new wheel lock key. John was particularly helpful and a pleasure to do business with. They installed the new tires in the timeline they said and brought out one of the tires that I replaced and showed me how compromised that one tire was and I was very lucky not to have had a wheel blowout. Visited this location today for an oil change. I called and made a reservation, dropped off the car and came back in two hours. First time around car wasn't ready, as team was laser focused on solving another problem. Gentleman at the front desk asked for a 90 minute extension, when I came back it was ready. During the checkout process we had a little bit of a disconnect on pricing, however, they made it right - better than right. Old school operation ran by wise and hard working. There was a great shop where Pep Boys now operates and I was sad to see them go. I thought I would try Pep Boys because of convenience of location. I had an issue with my brakes and they charged me $1,000 for repairs. Within a few months signs of problems began to re-appear and worsen. I took the car to my dealership and found out they had used the wrong components in the repair. Damaged a hose that caused leaking brake fluid. They also listed that they inspected the entire brake system and the brakes in the rear also need work. I called but wasn't offered any recourse. I haven't had anything like this happen before and don't enjoy leaving bad reviews but hopefully might spare someone $1,000 or more. read more

Awesome service! They offer free lifetime alignments and they're super nice! I got tires from them back when they were Elliot Bay Auto Service and they used to have a service where they would let you borrow a car from them while yours was in the shop. Now they'll give you a free lyft ride wherever you need to go and back! 10/10 would reccomend utilizing this! read more

Damaged my wife's car and won't pay for repairs. The Story: After quoting my wife a price for repairs significantly higher than a non-chain garage, Pepboys crashed my wife's car in the parking lot. Pepboys damaged the car further when they tried to fix mechanical issues themselves. Now they refuse to pay for the damages they caused, claiming it was pre-existing. My wife has been without a drivable car for over 2 months and Pepboys continues to treat her with horrific customer service both from the shop itself and the corporate claims and service department. I would recommend avoiding all Peboys if you have a choice. The cost of a "free inspection" at their shop was the car itself. read more

I've been getting my tires here for 7+ years and they are great people who always take care of what I need and in a timely manner. They're helpful, friendly and have a great selection of tires. If they don't have what I want, they can order it and usually get it in the next day. I'll keep going back and highly recommend them for tires if you're in the area. read more

Their "inspection" was wrong about everything I never give one-star reviews but, they were wrong about everything! I bought a used car, and the paid Pep Boys to perform a "premium maintenance inspection" on it. The inspection results states that my rear struts were bad, that my power steering pump was leaking, and that breaks were good... I took to the car to Greg's Japanese auto and a dealership and they both claim the struts are fine, the power steering is not leaking, and the breaks are down to 30% (which is not good). Regarding the rear struts suggested replacement; they claimed that moog outer tie rod end and many other connected parts needed to be replaced, but again, Greg's Japanese auto and the dealership claim that the struts and connected parts are fine. BTW: I went to the dealership only because of the contrasting reports between the pep boys and Greg Japanese auto... So that too was extra money wasted, that should have gone towards new brakes. read more

BEWARE! I took my care to Pep Boys because I had a flat tire. They quoted me a cost of $500 to have two tires replaced and said two new tires were needed even though the car was less than a year old. I then took my car to the dealership- they replaced one tire for $150 and told me the second tire did not need to be replaced. So happy I skipped the service at Pep Boys! read more

I scheduled my appt online several days in advance, and dropped my car off Friday night after closing for first thing servicing Saturday morning. Done this a number of times at several Pep Boys locations. If they are booked, you can't schedule. It's that simple. Been that way for several years at least. I woke up to a voice mail that they couldn't get to it today. The call came in just before 8am. Odd. Must have had a number of high dollar walk-ins that bumped low dollar scheduled work. read more

Nathan and the Pep Boys team did an amazing job when we needed a battery replacement on Labor Day. They were kind enough to bring a jumper to our car (parked in the garage across the street,) and the team was able to test and install a new battery in less than an hour. The entire Pep Boys made our difficult day easy with their great attitude and excellent customer service. We really appreciate having their services so close to our home and will be sure to bring them our future business. BEST SERVICE I HAVE RECEIVED ANYWHERE. I got a flat tire and am going on a road trip so I went to 4 different tire places who all told me it would take at least 24 hours to fix my tire. But at Pep Boys they greeted with me kindness, understanding, and rushed me in an out within 30 Minutes and fixed my tire for only $24. They gave me a free tire pressure gage just to be kind and they also put caps on all my tire air valves. John was SO nice as well as Greg, and so was Suzy ( it was her birthday and she was SO kind and helpful). These three all deserve huge raises!! They offered advice for the ride as well. I brought my car here because it was the only local place who would schedule an alignment. Right off, noticed the coupon that would be "applied at time of service" didn't work. I had to bring my two young children in and we waited 2.5 hours only to be told that my car ABSOLUTELY NEEDED $4,000 worth of repairs before they would even attempt an alignment-- including repairs I had done within the last 12 months. My car is only worth about $1000 in pristine condition! How in the world they thought I would dump $4k into that car is beyond me. But I was willing to laugh it off and move on, except that two weeks later, my car starts overheating and the ignition fails. ALL of the previous issues they cited revolved around the suspension, my engine was perfectly fine before I came to Pep Boys and within two weeks I was stranded on the side of the road with my babies. I don't know what they did, but PLEASE do not take your vehicle to these frauds, I'm worse off than before! read more

I wish I could give this pep boys lower than one star. Scheduled an oil change online early in the afternoon. Got confirmation email for my appointment at 5 and printed out the materials for express check in. Once I arrive the guy informs me that he tried to call me and say that 5 was too late for an oil change. Nobody tried to call me. I just had the confirmation text that my appointment had been scheduled. No apology, he blamed me, and said they don't have control over the online appointment system. I went into Pep Boys in Ballard, Seattle (#6449) a few weeks ago. I had my oil changed and one other thing looked at. Afterwards they let me know that my breaks and rotors needed to be replaced. I don't know much about cars and my entire family lives 2,000 miles away so I took their word for it. On Saturday 2/16/19 I dropped my car off at noon and they called me a few hours later. They told me that both of my calipers needed to be replaced. They said they couldn't get the parts until Monday (aka they're keeping my car all weekend) and that the calipers cost about $120 each (casually adding $240 + fees to my bill). Considering that I drove my car in there just fine, I was confused as to why it all of a sudden it had such major issues. I asked the employee (Andrew) "if you put my car back together right now, would my breaks work?" and he said "no". - Remember this part. So I called my dad who is a mechanic (in another state) and he let me know it's unheard of for both calipers to go bad at the same time. My car was not shaking, squeaking, squealing or anything of the sort so as far as we could tell my breaks probably didn't even need replaced to begin with and both calipers definitely weren't bad. My dad called into the store to see what was going on and ended up telling them to give me my car back. The manager (John Anderson) tells him that due to washington state law they cannot release my vehicle to me with it in a nonfunctional state. My dad tells them to put the car outside and we will have it towed to a different shop. I went to go get my key and the manager (John) was incredibly rude to me and was speaking to me like i'm a child. I told him to stop talking to me and give me my key/car back and he continuously tried to argue with me. The store closed so I sat in my car while I was on hold with AAA trying to request a tow truck. I figured I should just test my car out and see what would happen if I tried to drive it. And it was like MAGIC, my car was completely fine!? The same car that was "nonfunctional", the same car that the breaks wouldn't work on without having the calipers replaced. There is no way in HELL both of my calipers are bad yet my breaks are working just fine with literally no side effects. I'm a young female and I should have made the assumption that they would try to rip me off but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I will never again step foot into another Pep Boys and plan on warning everyone I know not to either. read more
