My husband tried to set an appointment today to have new wipers installed. Instead the person answering the phone, most likely the only one there today told him he would do better to purchase them elsewhere, even suggested where. Said he would have to charge him $18.00 apiece and thought he do do better somewhere else, having this done! Amazing, no wonder you have no business any longer with stupidity like this talking to customers. We "were" customers there for the last 15 years but no longer, can not trust them with our vehicles! My brake light went out, and Pep Boys was recommended to me by another mechanic because they had later evening hours. I booked an appointment online for a same day repair, but when I showed up, the mechanic at the desk said that my appointment hadn't shown up on their system. They had to search for my appointment, then sent me home because they didn't have someone available to fix my light. I made an appointment for the next day to come in, but I got a text from them at noon saying my appointment was cancelled with no explanation. I'm done with them. read more

Twice I've given them my business because of their blessed Saturday hours. (Side note: Why aren't all mechanics open on Saturdays and closed Sun-Mon instead? Instant business boost.) Twice they've screwed up in a way that cost me time and money while not owning up to it. The first time they were to switch out my front winter tires for my summers (all on rims, a 10-minute job), I sat waiting for an hour while they worked on my car. When they said they were done, they handed me the key and said "It's free." Huh, I thought. Nothing's FREE without explanation. A few days later, my key fob was dead. It was then that I noticed the red rubber cover on the Emergency button had been torn off, causing the fob batteries to die. I had to buy a new fob case and batteries from Amazon then figure out how to transfer the real key's guts into the new one. I would've much rather paid for the tire replacement service I requested. The second time I was in a similar bind with my tires needing switching out before a Monday AM trip. This time, they gave me 3 free "gifts" -- 1. they didn't check the tire pressure before I drove away (by some miracle, I stopped to check it: 22 and 24 PSI! I would've had two flat tires in my driveway Monday morning had I not checked & filled them.), 2. they forgot to give me back my winter tire rims requiring me to return twice (the first time they weren't ready for me even though I made an appt), and 3. the previously in-tact rubber gasket around my gearshift box was torn out, something I noticed today, two weeks after the fact. (It's a 21-year-old car and I'm its only infrequent driver. Nope, the car was never broken into. They were the last ones inside my car.) I can't vouch for their service any longer. This place is terrible. Never and I mean NEVER get any engine work done here. so about a month ago I got my engine thermostat changed out by these clowns because my check engine light came on. I paid $1k for that. When they were done I got my car back but the next day and all these warnings and service signals were popping up on my dash, and my car was shaking on start very bad. I took it back to them the same day and they said they had no clue what was going on and to take it to a Jeep dealership. Ok....so I took it to a Jeep dealership to see why all these engine over heating warning signals were coming on my dash. Well the Jeep dealership worked on my car for a month and found out that PEPBOYS got coolant inside my pcm unit which I guess is the brain of the car. The only way for coolant residue to get inside the pcm unit attachment the Jeep dealership said is when they did the flush of the coolant because the plugs are water proof. I told pep boys all of this and they said file a claim with them. By the way I had to pay $3k for all of this. So I'm thinking ok they have to reimburse me for damaging my pcm unit right? Nope after three weeks of hearing back from claims department they said there was no way of knowing if there techs got coolant residue in to the plugs that connect to the pcm unit essentially frying it lol How PEPBOYS? You literally have to drain the coolant to get the thermostat off and the connectors are right near the thermostat but u can't prove it was ur fault? Gtfo. The manager there at this store name is John and I'm telling you they will rip you off. Like man up and own up to your screw ups. Now I have to go to small claims to prove a point. Horrible business here in Syracuse please don't go to this place they will rip you off and have you wait a month to tell you they did nothing wrong when you have all the proof and recipes lol ooook PEPBOYS I'm done I gave you the warnings of this places. I drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Recently somehow my brake almost totally failed on me, which I had them replaced my rear caliper. However, after about 2 weeks, I felt my brake started to act strange. I would press half way down and wouldn't get too much brake at all, where as when I just got my car fixed, it felt completely responsive braking wise. So of course I called Pepboys to inquire a check up on the work they did. I understand sometimes mistake could happen and we just need to fix the issue, and I just want my brake issue to be resolve and get a peace of mind. So I got in early in the morning for the check up. The rep asked me bunch of questions, like whether the brake pads I bought were ceramics, etc, and made me felt almost it was me who just made up those imaginative issues. So at the end, this is what on the evaluation: "Tech noted rear brakes working correctly. Front left caliper depressed hard and is starting to stick. Customer declined replacing calipers at this time and took vehicle as is" So I asked, how could I resolve my issue because I feel my brake is getting worse. The rep suggested to replace my front caliper as well. Of course. Still doubting, not because I don't trust them, but because I trust my own feet which I use to drive my car every day. I called a local mechanic shop and luckily was able to quickly schedule a check up. I gave them a quick overview of what happened as I got my caliper replaced etc. Couple of hours later they called me and I went to pick up my car, they told me that they just had to bleed the brake system because there was air in the brake system. I asked the mechanic guy how could that happened, he said probably people who installed the calipers didn't bleed the car all the way. And their evaluation just said, "Brake System - Bleed - All Applicable Models". Driving my car back and drove around a bit to test it out, everything felt normal and brake felt nice. I am not going to ask my money back. I guess I should be thankful that I didn't have them replace my front caliper for another 500 dollars or so, and I should also be thankful that I didn't have to spend many other days going there to fix the same problem. There are no proof, but I do feel my car is kind of new but ever since going to Pepboys, my car had much more mechanical issues than I would expected for a 2012 car. read more

I have been here numerous times over the years. It has completely fallen off and I will never return here again. Customer service is horrendous. It has been bad with people not helping customers, wandering around when no one is at the register to check people out, and stupid comments with attitudes. I was just there two weeks ago looking to buy fuses, 5 quarts of oil, and a filter. There was no one at the register and 3 guys hanging at the tire service desk. I waited and waiting and finally asked if someone could check me out. They told me I would have to wait. I dropped everything and went to Advance Autos. I had guys at parts tell me what I need is not correct when I know it is. I have ordered brakes from them to find out pieces set missing in the hardware or the order isn't complete. My personal opinion - go just down the road and hit Napa or Advance Autos. Give someone your money who actually wants to help you. read more

So I don't like to leave a review if it's not a good one. However, I had a horrible experience at the pep boys on Erie blvd. I went in because I had a nail in my tire and they plugged it. Literally the air came out the same day so I returned it to get a new tire. I drive away and I'm not too far away when I start hearing this weird clicking sound coming from the tire they changed. I bring it back like a few days later because I'm a busy person. They check their cameras and said they didn't see anything odd from the mechanic he just changed the tire. I called the corporate office because I knew they did something; my tire wasn't making that noise before. They said there was nothing they could do. Months later I need work done in that tire. Turns out pep boys put on the WRONG SIZE TIRE! So obviously that's not good for a car. I blame their negligence for all the work I've had to have done on that tire side. I'm from Utica NY and I traveled out to Syracuse to get my wedding dress. During that time I noticed my tire was flat in the parking lot due to a metal shard! Triple AAA came filled air and left no help. I drove to pep boys and bought a $10 tire plug. Tried doing it on my own but didn't have a jack in my car. I'm not sure his name but I need to! He was the service manager he came out and told us how service was so busy but he went out of his way by himself & fixed up my flat in under 15 minutes didn't charge me anything even though I offered whatever I had! He was amazing and a life saver! He deserves a raise and more! For someone who went out of his way to help when he didn't have to really makes me happy! 10/10 read more

Friendly when I had a problem. I got a flat tire in Syracuse and had to pull off the highway. I was 130 miles from home and feeling lost! The guys were really nice, brought me back and showed me the problem with the tire. They didn't have a replacement unfortunately ( it's an unusual size so no bad), but they put on the temporary one and charged zero for it. It meant a lot to meet a friendly face in my situation! I have been here several times and have always left completely satisfied with the level of service I've received. I go here regularly for oil changes and routine maintenance. The service manager Bill has helped me several times personally. He always explains things very thoroughly and I never feel like I am being taken for a ride or spending money unnecessarily. I've received similar great service from every other person who has helped me there as well. I've found that calling a couple days ahead to make an appointment is helpful. They have always gotten me right in and right out on time when I've done this which is extremely helpful as I generally do not have time to wait around for hours to get my car serviced. If you're looking for a honest place to get your car serviced in the Syracuse area that does quality work, I would highly recommend this location. read more

i had an incident with my mirror, and I had to replace it. I go to pep boys I order my piece, they tell me 2-3 days. I call 3 days later they say 1-2 more days. I call 2 days later piece is there, it took a week. I open the box, they ordered the wrong mirror. I go back tell them it's wrong, they place an order for a new one. Once again they tell me 2-3 days, called 3 days later, nothing. they tell me they Ordered the wrong one and one again had to purchase it again. they tell me 2-3 days, I call its not there. once again told me to call back 1-2 days later, I called, nothing. Today i called and was told my piece arrived, It almost took 2 weeks. I went to the store opened the box and once again it was the wrong piece. I'm very frustrated and upset about the situation. Its been a whole month and I still haven't gotten my issue resolved. I would not recommend people to buy car parts from here. read more

I went to pick up an online order. They left out a 30 dollar gallon of fuel additive from My order. At first they said that I did not order that. I asked them for the receipt before paying to verify. I found it on the receipt and they said "oh it was on the bottom of the receipt that's why we didn't see it." Not even an apology or I'm glad that I could find it for you. I will use Napa or advanced for my online pickups form now on. On a side note every time I have been in this store there has been no one at the checkout. I sit there waiting for 10 minutes. I finally have to go over to the service department and ask if there's someone who can help me. They say "I guess I can do it" like I'm bothering them. Was originally quoted an hour and a half for my tires to be put on.. get a call almost 2 hours later trying to sell me on stuff I've already previously had done recently. After that the man on the phone tried to hang up after I denied all services that weren't needed. And I asked before he could hang up how much longer until I could pick up my car. He told me another hour and a half. Never coming back here again. If you're behind on your work load be honest with the customer and give them an accurate time frame as to when they can pick up their car. There goes my day. read more

Pep Boys on Erie Blvd is terrible. I had my windshield wiper pump replaced around the same time last year and I had to bring it back twice then. The same thing happened again this year and it should have been replaced under warranty. They said they ordered the pump and I'm still waiting 2 weeks later. They were also supposed to adjust my emergency brake. They left the plastic cover for the emergency break in the seat and didn't replace it. My cds were also missing when I picked up my car. The car door was locked when I picked it up so I know they had to be taken by someone inside the store. I would actually give them 0 stars instead of one. read more
