Day of appointment I arrived 1 1/2 hours early no mechanic to do my tires only tech was Bruce and two service advisors, when the manager shows up she did not speak to anyone in waiting area, after 10 minutes I informed her of my appointment she immediately told me to wait I'm busy and will get back with you, she never did and I eft time now about 10:00am and still no mechanic and several customers waiting. Just dropped in with an unfortunate find of a tire becoming flat and the store was nearing closing time - the service writer Patrick went above and beyond to get me in and address the issue while keeping me informed . The staff also showed excellent customer support and fixed the issue . A friend sent me here and let me know the staff and Patrick's attention to detail is a win that is hard to find in the auto repair business. If you have any other mechanical work besides tires or oil change do not take your vehicle to this location. They only have one mechanic that can't handle "in depth work" they will break something and then say "it's too in-depth to handle"and "to take it back where you had work done to it before". Rather slow srvice, which I have come to expect, but just plain dirty. Dirty shop, windows covered with filth and leftover tape everywhere, dirty waiting room, dirty rest room and dirty store area. Dirty walkways, trash cans stuffed and left, cans and bottles sitting around the parking lot. how much would it take for the employees and managment to show a little pride in thier workplace? Get off their butts and grab a broom? I think they should all get into a bus and go visit any Car Dealer Service area. ANY of them. Yes I do believe PB may be less expensive, but that's no excuse to look cheap. Lastely, it looks like employees park in front of the store, and at the front of the lot, when common sense tells you that employees park at the rear. Cars sitting long term, with flat tires. I've never had a good experience with Pep Boys not even once. Their online website for some reason doesn't link to their store, so the people in the store have no idea what's happening. I ordered tires and made an appointment online. I got a confirmation email with a confirmation number. I go in the next day they check me in I wait THREE hours before I go and inquire about my tires... and they say that not only do they not have my tires but they were never ordered. Then they finally put in an order for them and said they'll be in. I called Thursday morning they said the shipment comes later they'll call when they're ready. They never call. So I called around 5:30 the shipment came in but my tires were not there and they don't know when they'll get there. I don't know what's going on over there and I don't think they know either but none of it is good. I could not recommend enough to not only not go to this pep boys but to not go to any pep boys. read more

My windshield wipers were in a state of disrepair to say the least. I stopped in and was immediately greeted by Tyler ( I hope I got his name right). He asked if I needed help, I said I did. He asked the questions, I gave the answers and was directed to the aisle to find my correct wipers. He gave me advice on the various brands and after I selected what I wanted he asked if I needed help putting them on. YES, YES please! Tyler handed me off to Jamie ( I hope that was his name too). By the time I had paid for the wipers and walked to my car they were already on. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. I need service like this in my life because I'm just not car savvy. Rude service, staff member kept delaying assistance for a quick task of checking the air for one tire. Maybe it's because I wasn't white. I do feel like if my skin color was white maybe I would have been helped in the quick lane. Please beware you cannot return a defective item to pep boys! I bought a 2 TON jack (19.98 on sale), used it the very first time to Jack my scat pack charger. However the Jack would bleed down (yes valve was closed). Brought it back as I didn't want use to use an unsafe jack (I know it's a cheap 20 dollar Jack but I just needed it to easily take my tires on/off). When I came in and told the gentlemen I needed to return a defective jack, he goes " one second" takes the jack and walks outside. I wasn't sure what he was doing until I saw him jacking up his Nissan Versa. He comes back in and goes "it's holding no problem" I said "ok, but I'm telling you when we tried to use it, it kept bleeding down and I don't feel comfortable using a questionable jack" he goes " sorry I cannot return a used item" a used item?! One time and it didn't even work!!! according to him, the top plate being scuffed where it contacts with the vehicle means it's used. So basically if you use it one time and have an issue, you cannot return it. I literally came in to return the defective jack and buy a 3 ton instead (better brand as well). However, after arguing with me that it was used, being super rude and telling me he isn't giving me a refund... guess what, he gave me a refund especially after I asked him if he scratched the top plate lifting his car without my permission. yes I got my 20 bucks back but had to deal with all of that? Amazon and harbor freight accept returns and provide better prices. Customer service is huge and unfortunately pepboys will suffer from their lack of. I needed assistance with purchasing windshield whipers. The woman at the register asked me what kind of car I had and I told her. She told me the number for the whipers and told me to get them. I asked for assistance and she said I didn't need help to just pick up the numbers. Another employee tried to replace them and they did not fit. The numbers were correct but the shape was wrong. All she had to do was get someone to assist me. There is no excuse for this except laziness. read more

I needed 4 tires for my car. Unfortunately only 1 was available at the Talleyville location. John in service did everything in his power to make sure I was not disappointed. In fact, he even volunteered to drive to another store to pick them up for me on his day off. Fortunately he was able to arrange getting the tires without having to do so on his own time. It's not often that you come across such a high level of customer focus. My car died and just needed a battery. The tow truck dropped the car off Saturday around 5pm. I totally understand not getting to it Saturday. Sunday I expect a call to let me know what's happening. I can THEM around 2pm and they tell me they will call me back. They call me at 5:50pm and say if I make it back before they close at 6pm, I could have the car. What? I don't have a car, and you want to give me 10 minutes notice to get a ride so I an pick up my car before closing? Yeah, customer service needs some work. read more

Pep Boys on talleyville wilmington is a total rip off and dishonest. I had my inner and outer tie rod fixed today. I had to use them because of distance. They charged $530 to repair 1 tie rod. A set of tie rods cost less tha $50.00. They charged me $200 for one tie rod. They tried to sell me on axel hub as well. Nothing was wrong with it. I declined the hub. They called me back and told me one of my lug nuts broke. They said it would cost $200 to fix the lug nut they BROKE, but since the lug nut needed to be fixed, I should replace the axle hub again another $450 dollars. They cut the lug nut off and fixed the tie rod. They wanted charged me $200 to replace the lug nut they broke which is less than a $10.00 part. Also $130 per hour at 2 hours for repair. This is a half hour repair. They didn't even need to take the tire off to replace the tie rod. DO NOT go to Pep Boys in talleyville, should have cost no more than $300 and not break your car. read more

Went in on Sat. 3/14/20 for their standard oil change for my GMC Acadia was so disappointed with all this location, The waiting area looks like it has not been cleaned in years, The dust & dirt on the floors, rugs,chairs ceiling covered with stains, vents with rust & dirt, all the glass was filthy especially with the issues that we are having with the corona-virus it takes a few min. to just wipe them down. The tec. who worked on my car was lazy as hell only came in to tell me that my tires didn't need to be rotated, No fluid check, No brake check nothing but just changed the oil. His uniform was hot mess & sloppy from the feet up. as an employee one should always look the part this is not the pep boys way! Absolutely awful! The lack of urgency that these employees have is utterly ridiculous. They act like they have no clue what is going on. I blew a tire on 95 and came here because it was the most convenient (I was already on 202) 2-3 hours just to have a tire replaced is completely unacceptable. You think you are going to a reputable company and the service is 2/10 at best. I will never come here unless it is an absolute emergency or I have no other plans for the day. read more

We have taken our car here twice for tire changes/rotations. Drop off at 8 AM on a Saturday and picked up at 1 PM. However, the first round of "cheap" tires we selected gave out at 45,000 miles. Let's hope this next round lasts a bit longer. read more

My appointment time was yesterday morning and after waiting nearly 5 hours, still my car was on the lift in the service area with the tires off and no service staff to be found. After literally walking around searching for folks, someone named John appeared and began making excuses for why none of the work had been done to my car. This is a review of the store, not the service center. I went in to buy a rear wiper blade for my Hyundai Tucson. I didn't catch the name of the guy who was helping me, but he was great. Someone asked me first if they could help & I said no figuring I could just look it up in a wiper blade booklet (sorry sir! I know better now!) The guy that helped me was showing me the difference between plastic and metal blades because I'm an idiot with cars, but he didn't treat me as such which was nice. He looked up the part, and when it wasn't listed asked to see my car so he could try to find it for himself. When he realized the store was out of the proper blade, he looked up the next delivery date and said he'd be working that day. Hopefully I'll make it down then since he was so helpful! I had a nail in my tire. I came in to get it plugged. I was told they could help me in an hour. I was short on time, but I returned an hour later for what should have been a 5 minute fix. It took another hour. I thought maybe they were delayed. Nope. They took it upon themselves to fully examine my car and find other things that may or may not be issues. I was not asked if they could diagnose my car other than what was given permission. I have a trusted mechanic I go to for other items. I only wanted a 5 minute plug. Communication is key to good service, and this is where they failed. read more

Car was clean (some places leave oily fingerprints on your door handles and steering wheel) and ready to go sooner than the estimated completion time. The price was more than fair in my opinion and I feel I got great service from the people working there. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and professional. I dropped my car at 8 am on a weekday because there was an issue with one of the tires. The guy at the register kept saying I just needed an alignment. It took three tries to get him to understand that my tire pressure light was on and while I might need an alignment, there is something wrong with an actual tire, I had run over something. At 4 pm, I received a call telling me I needed a tire replaced and an alignment- which they hadn't even started. My car was not ready until 5:30 pm and no one even apologized. read more

I have to preface my review by saying that I only go to Pep Boys for parts, not service. When it comes to parts, their sales staff is very helpful and quickly found the specific light bulb I needed for my vehicle model. And prices seem fair or at least close to the retail average for most parts. The only problem I can see is Concord Pike is so busy that it can be hard to get in and out of the Pep Boys lot. However, parking seems adequate; you can park by the side near the service area or in front of the store. read more

Review of service center, not store: I've been bringing my VW here for routine service for about 2 years. I live in DC, but my parents live in Wilmington. After very frustrating experiences with multiple [overpriced] mechanics in the DC area, I was immediately impressed by the service at this Pep Boys location. The mechanics are friendly and helpful, and have performed good work on my car for good prices. Routine oil changes, new tires, and even fixing some problems I've had. They also always have coupons. Their rewards program is a great bonus, too. When my check engine light came on and my car kept refusing to start, and VW supposedly couldn't diagnose the problem, guess who was able to figure it out? These guys. They couldn't repair it, but they gave me great info so I was able to understand the problem and explain it to a VW mechanic. But what impressed me the most was how the management team handled a problem I experienced after my most recent visit for some routine service. I could tell they were truly apologetic for the issue I'd encountered, and they helped me get the problem fixed in Northern VA for no charge. I believe that great service is one thing, but how a company handles service problems says even more about them. Therefore I'll continue to take my car to this Pep Boys for routine service, and will definitely recommend it to others. Note: The only real downside I've experienced is that they're usually so busy that if you call you will be waiting a while for them to answer the phone, and they don't usually call to tell you your car is ready to go. Scheduled appointment for an oil change for this past Sunday at 5:30PM via the website's online schedule feature. Arrive at the location on time for my appointment only to be told that the shop closes at 6PM and Pepboys didn't have a technician available to perform the job. I agreed to bring return the next day back but left frustrated by the cancellation. The website appointment tool does not reflect the actual garage hours. I did not receive any notice of this schedule conflict. Then that following day again my appointment needed to be rescheduled based on a discrepancy between the website schedule tool and the garage's actual capabilities. Later the same week on Thursday, today, I return at 8AM sharp for my 8AM appointment. After waiting on site for 1.50 hours pepboys still has not finished the basic oil change. This is not acceptable and totally unprofessional. Why schedule appointments if Pepboys does not intend to honor them. read more

I made an appointment for brake service and was told it would take an hour and a half, maybe two hours. It's been nearly four and they haven't completed the service. I was told they were short a technician but that's not my problem and if they knew this, why did they lie about the time? I wouldn't have minded the four hours if I knew ahead because I could have gotten a ride home - an hour and a half wait wasn't a big deal, but being stuck for four? Just be honest, folks - so your customers can plan their day and not waste it sitting in a hot waiting area in 95 degree weather, thanks. Here's an update - did I say four hours?
