I brought my tire in because it looked like had a screw in it. I didnt want to take a chance of it going flat because I am going to be traveling. The mechanic told me it was not repairable and I needed to replace the tire. I have them put the donut on and I went to the place where I have a warranty for tires. They told me I didn't need a new tire, as it was only in the tread. I will never trust them again if this is the type of work they do. Manager was very nice but if I bought a new tire would he have reimbursed me? He didn't even offer to reimburse me for the tire rotation that I clearly did not need. read more

Went in with my check engine light on and came out with it still on. They told me that a couple different things would turn the light off and I got them done. It cost me $400 and I walked away with the issue still being present. Asked them what was I supposed to do about the situation considering I still have the light on and they told me to bring it back the next day so that they could look further into it. Buyer beware!!! I was given a quote of $562 for 2 tires and wheel alignment on a Honda Accord. When I got the bill it was $726! Besides the tax, which I expect, they added several charges that were never mentioned in the quote such as wheel balance, shop fee, tire handling charge, steeri.g angle sensor calibration, rubber valve stem. With the tax, which was $40, there were $124 worth of charges they never mentioned. What con game this company is. A few days later I got 2 tires and a wheel alignment on my Suburban at K&M Good Year on rt 37, it it was cheaper than the 2 tires and alignment on my Honda. I dropped my truck off and they were able to take a look at it pretty fast which was great. They didn't find anything wrong with it even though there was. It seemed like they just wanted to sell me tires. I actually took it to Midas after there and they found so many things that were causing the vibration in the truck it's really sad that I was able to figure it out myself, while looking under the lift at Midas. I it's pretty sad if you're driving a car and it vibrates when you give it gas and you let go most cases it's the Driveline the drive shaft I felt like I was taking crazy pills I kept telling them that's what the issue was they said it's fine I don't get it if they're just trying to lie and they didn't want to do it because it's an easy fix or what but very unprofessional and the guy running the desk was very rude extremely rude almost like hanging up on me just wanted to sell tires I would not recommend going there if you're looking for professionalism . Where to start MY 20 yo daughter took in her car to have the oil changed and the cooling system checked (there was no leaks, and it never overheated) just to have it checked and flushed. The Service manager was Rude, Condescending & Dismissive to her and my wife, when I called for the status update he was the same to me. they told me MY belt was half gone(untrue) I needed just about everything replaced in my cooling system. water pump, radiator, t/stat, pressure tank etc. Now mind you I have never seen a leak or over heated. car has 80000 miles on it. I of course told them no I took the car home and checked the belt looks New still see the writing on it and totally intact. they over filled my cooling system so now it is overflowing from the pressure tank (I had to remove some) and on top of all that they put green antifreeze over the Pink that was in there which can cause issues. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! hopefully I will get somewhere with customer service as now I have to pay someone to flush my system. and oh yeah, they charged me 180.00 for this fiasco. I did not see an option for wait or drop off. apparently neither did someone else, as the employee says second of the day that was wrong. My son and I went to Pep Boys in Toms River, NJ to have his AC checked on a 2010 Honda accord V6. They hooked it up to a diagnostic machine, spent over an hour, and after charging $150 for the diagnosis, came back with a repair quote for over $1800. I did notice some parts prices were extremely high on the quote. We've done for to the car else sells a hat a general idea of the price for an AC compressor. I was told it was because the parts would be new. We got a second opinion from a mechanic we knew. He didn't even look at the car and told us to check the relay because it often goes bad on our model. Turns out that was the problem. We repaired it for less than $20. Was a auto tech here I worked 39.65 hours received a paycheck for $468 which equals out to $11.80 far below minimum wage. My contract stated "in no event shall I be paid less then minimum wage" I complained about this to manager and was threatened to be fired for contacting hr to file a complaint. I've seen a 2011 f150 that had brake pads installed incorrect come back because the caliper pins broke and destroyed the front calipers, well instead of the company taking the hit and admitting their mistake they charged the customer saying "your calipers are bad and need to be replaced" I'm not about that they are thieves and liars. I quit after 3 weeks of working there and have still yet to receive any resolution for my incorrect paycheck. I would highly suggest finding a small family owned mechanic shop that actually cares and isn't there to steal and beat people out of money. read more

They identified the starter was the issue. They called me and tried to tell me it would be $1300. I knew that was insane so I tried to have them at least breakdown the math for me. They couldn't even do that! $550 for labor $200 for battery (yea right) $300 for starter That's 1050 and tax. They just make up numbers this place. I had it towed down the road to Tranz Connect. To paraphrase the words from another reviewer: They'll get the job done, it's just the time it takes to do it. I brought in my car for an A/C problem at 10:00am (at which time I stressed I'd need the car by end of day, as I had work an hour north the next morning). I was updated by 12:30pm so that it could take a couple hours as they needed to get the part, but definitely by the end of the day. I call back at 4:30pm, as the website tracker said staff needed to talk to me before servicing. I was told the part had just come in and it should be done by 5:30-6pm, but the manager on the phone had told his staff they needed to have it done by end of day. I call once again at 7:30pm (a half hour before closing) as I hadn't heard anything. A different manager on the phone said my car would not be ready, the present staff was not trained/advanced enough to finish the job, and the car was too disassembled to put back together. I was advised to call back the next morning to check in and see what happened. After securing my husband's car so I could go to work, I call the next morning. I'm told they are working on the car now. I asked what happened the day before -- the crew member was apparently overheating from the work and had to take a break. I can understand this, it was a hot and long day. But was no one else available to step in? Why had nobody contacted me to tell me so I could make other car arrangements? No answers were given. My vehicle was finally ready a couple hours later. We set up mobile payment because I would not be able to collect my car until after they closed, and they "like to take care of Mon-Sat billing before Sunday." (I would have also liked to have had my Friday job done on Friday, though...) While I've not had problems with my actual vehicle and functioning, I am frustrated by this experience because of a lack of communication -- being promised certain timelines that couldn't be met, and then not having any follow-up or explanation until I called multiple times. If you don't need your vehicle back at a specific time, or can easily find other ways to get around, Pep Boys Toms River can work for you. If you have any kind of deadline/timeline, unfortunately, I cannot recommend the shop. read more

I've had good & not-so-good experiences here. This past time was good, but it was only an oil change. It seems I've only had problems with more involved procedures on different vehicles. Other factors are, who does the actual mechanical work & their skills & experience. As for management, I've also had good & bad experiences. It all depends on the level of customer service experience & knowledge of the person in charge at the time. An important factor in any of it, is also the customer behavior. If you've had an unsatisfactory experience, there's a certain way to handle things. Acting like a Jerry Springer guest isn't one of them. That old saying; "the customer is always right", has been taken too far by customers. That being said, their prices & products are decent, & they have a rewards program with frequent coupons & offers for members. Bought four wipers for my two cars that cost me $100.00!!! That's right $100.00 for four windshield wiper blades. There was a sign under the wipers that said, "buy one and get the other 50% off" However, as the cashier was so kind to remind me "to read the fine print" because this was after a mail in rebate which has to be completed within 30 days of the receipt and takes 6-8 weeks to get. By the way you won't get a check for the rebate but you will get it in the form of a Visa card. Amazon sells the same blades for $15 a piece so even after I receive the rebate I still paid too much. I started out in Ocean Township where for years the store always carried supplies for all vehicles but I lost touch over the years until I walked in to "shop" today. Wish I knew that before I dropped off my car, and when I booked the appointment two days before I saw they had many available times to have my car serviced. So finally the next day comes and they tell me I need over a grand of work done. Which was fine, but then they tell me they need my car again to stay overnight and it will be done the next day. So the next day comes and I never got a call or anything telling me my car is done. Finally I call after 4pm and the guy who picked up the phone said my car was done by noon. After I picked up my car, my car runs like it's brand new and I'm really happy with the service but the communication and customer service is very mediocre. I've never had a worse experience with any business than I had the other day. In late January 2018, I had brought my car in due to brake noise and was told I needed new brakes, calipers and rotors - which cost me just under $600. By March, the same problem was reoccurring so I called to make another appointment, in hopes that they would make things right. I was told to bring my car in at 9 AM on Saturday. I arranged to get a ride home and waited on the service department to call me back. After hearing nothing for some time, I called them at noon and was told that my car was up next and that they would call me when they knew something. Three more hours go by and I call again. Again I was told that my car was the next to go in and that they would give me a call. Now at 6 PM (2 hours before they close), I call them for the third time and I'm told that my car is up on the lift, no work had been done to it yet and that they'll get to it first thing in the morning. All of the mechanics had gone home for the night, left my car up on the lift and no one had called me to tell me this. I had to end my day by getting a ride back to the store, telling them to take my car off the lift and having absolutely zero work done on my car. At no point, when I had made the appointment or when I had dropped the car off was the possibility of the car staying there overnight even discussed, or I would have never agreed. Additionally, what's the purpose of having me drop the car off at 9 o'clock if it's just going to sit in the parking lot all day? I wasted an entire day, had to arrange transportation to and from the store, and no work to my car had been done. The lack of communication was just astounding. What makes the whole situation worse, I'll remind you, was that the entire purpose of this appointment was so that they could correct the shoddy work they had done in the first place. I've had less than stellar service here before, but never anything like this. In all honesty, the only reason I've used them in the past was because they are located near my job, but it's just not worth it. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

They definitely get the job done, the only problem is the time it takes to do it. You could try as hard as you want but there is never a time these guys are available to work on your car without other distractions. The first time I was there, I was there for an hour and a half and they didn't even start working on my car so I just rescheduled for a day they were "as available as possible." The next appointment still took an hour to get my car in the shop and it didn't take too long to complete. Another problem I have is if you try to ask the workers when they will begin working on the car, they give a very poor guesstimate. Taking the first time I went for example, I literally asked the guy (he was nice at the very least) like 4 times when they would begin working on the car and He said around 20 minutes every time I asked. He could have just said an hour or two so I could just get picked up and not sit there but I just decided to reschedule as I said before because for all I knew I could have been there hours. Overall they do good work (although I don't know enough about the auto motive industry to compare other experiences) but it's the time that's the problem. Was called just before closing (9 pm) at which point they informed us that a brake line was blown and they needed to continue to work on it tomorrow. Called the next morning for them to tell us it wouldn't be ready until 3 pm. Showed up a little after 3 pm and found out that it would be at least another hour and they wouldn't have time to complete the alignment if we wanted to get it "soon". We didn't get the car back until after 7 pm - more than 24 hours later. Two other people in the waiting room were also complaining about their service times and quality. Spoke to the Sales Manager who apologized and offered a 10% discount on this service as well as 10% if we bring it back for the alignment. Informed him that wouldn't be happening. I would give them 0 stars if I could. This is the second chance I have given this chain. Had equally awful experience at another location. read more

Ok,$700 for new set of tires and one has a slow leak.I had an appointment to have it checked.Car did not get into bay for 1/1/2 hrs after the appointment.They found no leaks but remounted the tire.Still leaking.Im back here again.I asked for a new tire since it is obviously defective.The service writer disputes that the tire is defective.We will see how long I'm here this time.Next step will be the store manager,then up the ladder.More to come.Now it has been determined the tire has a leak.Of course,not in stock.They got the tire the next day,but no time to mount it they day,too busy.Now I have an appointment for Sunday 1 hour before closing.This will be my last time using Pep Boys for anything. read more
