My car would squeak when I would drive it so I came to pep boys! I waited for an hour before they took me into the garage and started saying there was nothing wrong with my car. I was there I knew my back tires needed to be changed out so I agreed to new tires and an oil change. Not even ten minutes later one of the managers came to me and said that the problem was indeed my brakes. They have me prices. And the ONLY reason they are getting two stars is because of this manager, I believe his name is Tim. He realized that his worker was incompetent and gave me every break I could on my bill. And Oscar helped too for my bill. Unfortunately it was also their lunch time. He said if I needed it done right away they could take turns, him and the incompetent mechanic, or if I would be so kind they would go to lunch together. I was not about to let this mechanic work on my car by himself. So here I am still waiting at pep boys. Been here for over three hours. This is ridiculous. Grateful for the deal and very unhappy with the wait time and staff knowledge. The only good thing about this place is Oscar and their manager. read more

I needed 4 new tires for my pick up truck as the original tires were 16.5 in rims and that size tires are no longer available. I purchased 4 16 inch rims and researched for the best tire pricing on the internet. Taking the print out of the quote for $683 to the store on 22 nd and Kolb where the 285-75-16 tires were in stock I attempted to purchase them, The associate "Brandon" printed it up the sale on his computer and it came up with a price of $1020 I showed him the Advertised Quote from their web site which he verified by pulling it up himself. He said he could not sell me the tires for that price and would I do not know what laws were broken but this is clearly a case of false advertising not a mistake of a decimal point in the wrong place. These people would rather see a customer who has purchased tires from that chain for over twenty nine years (longer than Brandon has been alive) walk out the door pissed off and vowing to never return than to honor their advertised price. On Wednesday my boyfriend went in to Pep Boys on E. 22nd, he bought 4 new tires and had them installed. He also purchased 4 new hubcaps as the old ones were very worn and broken. He left the store and went home. I got home from work and he was showing me the tires and hubcaps when we realized one had already fallen off.....location unknown!! It had only been a few hours, no scuffs on the tire or curbs were encountered. The hubcap had fallen off as soon as he left the store. Before 8 am this morning he returned and they made no effort to replace it. Frustrating that a large business like that would not try to help the customer. Clearly the hubcap had not been secured properly or it would not have fallen off almost immediately. I would understand if it had been days......but it wasn't. I will continue to do busy with the tire company I have used for years.....Pep Boys will not see my business. read more

The service here is so much better then the other DISCOUNTed TIRE places. I went in and my car went in pretty quickly, they kept me informed every so often about the status of my tire install and the price at the end was exactly as the quoted in the first place. If you need a tire repair, be sure to take it to one of the local gas/garage/tire stores, unless you have an hour to wait, especially when only one bay out of 8 is being used and all the employees are picking up trash in the parking lot, while you wait or are just standing around talking. If you have an appointment great, but don't surprise anyone with a last minute, I'm in a rush 10 minute tire repair and be sure your wife, sister or girlfriend gets to meet and work with Lance, he will most assuredly accommodate them, as he did me. read more

Double-charged for a battery--Extremely Poor Customer Service I ordered a battery for my vehicle and went to the Pep Boys at 7227 E 22nd St to get it. When purchasing the battery, clerk Jackie had difficulty with their sales computer and told me the transaction did not go through. I checked on my smartphone and showed her that I had already been charged. She got the on-duty manager, Brandon Pamplin, who told me the transaction was only pending and would not be final until close of business. Reluctantly, I trusted them and ran my debit card through again--my mistake. After a few minutes the battery was installed and I check my phone again. Sure enough, I had been double-charged. I got no assistance from Brandon--who told me he would take care of it and call me. I reported the issue to my bank I asked for the name and number of the store manager and requested he call me about the issue. Store Manager Walter Moss has not returned my calls. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this store! The store personnel were not truthful with me and did nothing to resolve the double-billing problem they caused. I contacted the Pep Boys national customer service and am waiting for resolution. read more

Despite previous reviews on customer service at this store being negative, I find my experience to be the complete opposite. One worker, I believe his name was Chase, helped me and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. One of my tires was low and it was due to a bad plug. He even quoted me for new tires but wasn't pushy. If I had the money, I would have done it that day. I love this pep boys location, and their employees. read more

Superb Customer Service! I needed a diamond plate tool box for my Ford pickup truck and Pep Boys on 22nd Street had them in stock. After going to the store and buying the tool box, The Store manager and his assistant, Dawn, helped with ordering a bug deflector too. I was going to install it myself but decided to have them do it since their install rate was very reasonable. The entire process was easy and their staff was knowledgeable. I went to pep boys on 22nd and Kolb to by some roof racks they said were in stock on line. When I got to the store I found the section and could not find the racks I was passed by 3 different people 2 times each and no one even said hello. The manager was in his perch and noticed me at least 2 times ... not a word . Pep Boys was the store to go to when I was in California in the late 80's but now you cant even ask questions because they use service guys at the counter and they evade your questions .They want you to use the shop . Pep boys has gone down the road of poor customer service beyond even the dismal service we have come to expect in todays world. Now watch for the canned response that they give, Pep Boys doesn't even have the time to give a real response on a customer service web site shame on you. Wow. Where to begin. Big huge cones and signs outside advertise "Drive up for service!" More like "drive up to watch two employees on their smoke break ignore you for a few moments before telling you to park you car and walk inside to the desk?" So I did. Who do I meet at the desk? The guy from outside! He proceeds to have me sign a paper stating my oil change will cost $36. What?! Oh, and GOD FORBID I read the fine print before I sign...he kept gesturing to the line with the x as if I am some sort of moron who didn't underatand what he said. Then, here's where it got really good. He asked me to "follow him outside"...that's right, walk BACK to my car in the sun/hot. On this journey, I should dictate my name and address to him while we take slow steps? Thia is stupid. Then he sent me back inside after I answered 4 questions I could have answered from the inside lobby. Then, I stared at my car sitting by itself for almost 20 minutes. I managed to write this whole review while the hulkish/bossy car man came back inside and sat down talking about how its time for him to take his lunch. OH, AND TO TOP IT OFF. This place is filthy inside and looks very rundown, from the stained and dirty floors to the dusty, splattered walls. Now its been 30 minutes and still no work done on my car. This was without question the worst experience I've ever had in my life. I would like to start by saying the employees were very nice, and I have nothing against them personally. OK, so here goes. I brought my Subaru Forester in on a Monday because it was making a "Rattle" sound. I wanted them to fix the "Rattle" sound; and that's all. One of the managers told me the main issue was the "flex plate". Their were a few other minor issues as well: but the "flex plate" was the main issue causing the rattle, and it needed to be replaced. The price I was quoted to make these repairs was appx $1800 to $2,000. After the car was there appx 1 week; I was told by the same manager that my transmission had some issues. I was told the "torque converter" needed to be replaced; along with a couple of other minor issues. This seems a little strange to me; since my trans seemed to be running just fine before I went to Pep Boys. I'm told Pep Boys doesn't do this kind of trans work, but he has a friend at a transmission shop nearby who can do the work. Again this all seemed strange to me; since all I wanted was a "Rattle" sound fixed. I figured though that if the car would be in good shape after all this work; I would be satisfied. So my trans is sent to the transmission shop. The transmission shop charges me appx $710 for their work. Trans is then apparantly sent back to Pep Boys for them to complete their repairs. On Saturday of that week; I pick up my car from Pep Boys(2 weeks time so far). I pay Pep Boys appx $1,825 for the work they've done. So far this ordeal has cost me appx $2,535.....to fix a "Rattle".......wow!!! Now things get really interesting......MY CAR BREAKS DOWN THE VERY NEXT DAY!!! I"m driving to QT to get some gas. and my car grinds to a halt. Car has to be towed back to Pep Boys. Pep Boys tells me they will call me when they know someting. MY CAR SITS AT PEP BOYS FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK AND NO ONE CALLS ME....THE CAR HAS BEEN LEFT FOR DEAD!!! 3 WEEKS NOW!!! My gut is telling me Pep Boys "Screwed Up" when repairing my car and they know it; that's why no one is calling me!!! I go down to Pep Boys on Monday to see what the hold up is, and no managers are around at all!. I"m told by a nice lady that basically " the car needs to be transported back to the transmission shop....as there is an issue with the transmission". Pep Boys doesn't even offer to have car towed.....wow what great customer service! So car gets towed back to the transmission shop; and they will call me when they know something. I speak to the transmission shop on Wed of that week. Manager tells me basically a gear exploded in another part of the trans, and now MY TRANSMISSION IS TOTALLY RUINED!!! ALL I WANTED WAS TO HAVE THE RATTLE FIXED!!! I'm told by them my options are to have my trans rebuilt for appx $4,000, or have a used trans installed for appx $2,800. At this point I'm overwhelmed/exhausted by the whole fiasco; so I decide to have used trans installed for appx $2,800. I pick up my car from trans shop the following Monday(4 weeks total now) and pay appx $2770.00. AT THIS POINT I'VE PAID APPX $5300 TO FIX A RATTLE SOUND!!! So i'm driving around in my car and guess what? THE RATTLE IS STILL THERE.....THE RATTLE SOUND IS NOT FIXED....AFTER PAYING APPX $5300!!! By this time: I'm absolutey disgusted with Pep Boys. I have absolutely no faith in their ability to fix this issue. After much pondering on my part; I decide to take car to Art's Pit Stop to fix the "Rattle". I've taken previous cars to Art's; and they do excellent work. Car is then repaired in about 1 day. I pay Art's appx $450. THE RATTLE IS NOW GONE...MAIN ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED!!! TOTAL COST TO FIX RATTLE WAS ALMOST $6000!!! I spoke to the District Manager to try to get some sort of financial compensation. He seemed very nice, sympathetic, and professional. After researching my story; his response basically was "the trans shop is responsible for your transmission breaking down; so you need to contact them...we can't do anything for you". Typical Pep Boys! BOTTOM LINE: THIS WAS HANDS DOWN THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.....THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT....AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT MY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH PEP BOYS!!! read more

Would not recommend this business. Bought a alternator that lasted 2 months and went out. Had to get replacement at AutoZone. Tried to take the bad one back for refund and they refused. They said they would only exchange it for another one. Asked them what I was supposed to do with that since I had already replaced it. Told them if they wanted to pull it in the bay and replace my AutoZone alternator with the new Pepboys one,That would work.Course they refused to do that and if I even wanted to exchange the bad one,I would have to wait for it to be shipped to them and then I could come back to get it. Went in with issues on my Saturn AC. The control module wasn't working and they ran a diagnostic and said it must be replaced...That was $325 + labor. They called and said car was ready and when I went to store they brought out car and said "thank you". I went to turn on AC and NOTHING! Can't believe they didn't check to see if it was working. I went back in and they said they would look at it again. The next day they said I needed a new fuse panel...$400 + labor. At that point I said no way give me my car and I will take it to GM dealer (the experts). Well guess what Pep Boys???It was a fuse you idiots...a frickin' $10 fuse. Needless to say you will never get my business again, and I will make sure to let everyone I know not to ever shop your locations!!! read more

Against my better judgement I stopped in for a non critical AC check that was "free." Immediately the young man attending me went into a sales mode and began inspecting my vehicle for other things that could be addressed, not for free. I asked only for a check of my AC and yet there were attempts to sell me other services. Long story short and over an hour later, the estimates were ridiculously high and right in line with more reputable shops including the dealership. No noticeable cost savings at at. While waiting, I could see and hear all of the horseplay and foul language inside the garage, all in the presence of the manager. Very unprofessional. I did not allow them to do any of the repairs on my vehicle and will take it to a dealership since the price is the same and I will be treated more professionally. I needed to get an oil change before I headed out of town on a business trip. I usually take my car to Firestone, but they didn't have an opening for several days. I drove to Pep Boys where they were able to see me the same day. I thought I would have to wait around half the day to get my car back but they called me in a very timely manner and charged me a reasonable price. Went into the store this past week to get my battery changed. The mechanic didn't speak one word to me and when he tested my battery he gave me a printout of the results and went to grab the girl behind the counter. She came out and told me that since my battery was reading good they couldn't replace my battery. Seriously?? She left me standing there with my hood still popped open and went inside. I ended up taking it to my regular mechanic and he couldn't believe they wouldn't change the battery out either. I will not be returning to that store ever. read more

this is the better pep boys in town to goto. They all are very friendly an helpful. This store will get it car in for service even without an appointment. We brought our car in recently for an oil change and to have AC fixed. They fixed it alright. It cost over $350 and it lasted 2 days. After that it was blowing warm again. ..and after only 1 day the check engine light came on. We've had the car almost 3 years and its never been on. I even had a tow truck driver approach me in a parking lot to tell me my car sounds terrible and I should have it looked at. I told him pep boys just DID look at it, and he said i need to take it back then and complain. When I returned it saying the check engine light was on, they insisted it must be a coincidence and unrelated but of course offered to look into it. I refused because I was en route to work. Back to the AC: I tool the car back in to tell them it stopped working. They said their AC guy was busy and I should make an appointment. ...so I did. And when I came in for the appointment a few days later they said "the AC guy doesnt start for 3 more hours". Then why did you let me make an appointment for now???? So I return 3 hours later and the AC guy was an hour late for work. After they finally looked at it again, they come out with a $1600 invoice! I'm pretty sure I could have a whole new AC system installed for that. ..and I'm wondering why they didn't find $1600 worth of repairs the first time I was there. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one was they refunded me $100 of the original repair bill for my trouble and the girl at the counter was friendly and called me by name.
