Had my truck towed to Costco (had a flat tire). Costco didn't have the size I needed & said they could get it in a WEEK. I said this truck is my only vehicle.....Costco guy wrote down the tire specs on a piece of paper & told me to walk over to Pep Boys (it';s sprinkling outside) to see if they can have the tire. CJ at Pep Boys went out of his way to help me & walked back to Costco with me to get the truck (Costco at least filled the tire with air). Pep Boys determined my tire only needed to be repaired. If the tire needed to be replaced, they had the size I needed (and that would be perfectly OK) - I was out the door for $19.99, CJ - THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! Costco didn't have the size tires in stock for my car a couple years ago, either. read more

This was the worst service I've ever had at a auto shop. The first day I came for an oil change appointment they said that instead of taking 1 hour max it would take closer to 3 hours, so they recommended I reschedule. Then, I scheduled an appointment for a Sunday morning when they claimed would be less busy. I called prior to driving to my appt to confirm there was no hold up, and they confirmed the oil change would take about 1 hour. I got there early, waited in line for 50 minutes to drop off my keys, and was told I would be pushed to the front of the line. I showed up 2 hours after my appt, my car had not been touched and they told me they were way under staffed and had no intention on starting my oil change anytime soon. Do not waste your time here! They need to be honest with their customers! read more

Waited in line for 30 mins... all to tell me that they can't do my car because I'm supposed to make an appointment the day before! If that's the case why did you let me schedule it for today online?? My father and I USED to take our vehicles here all the time because they have unbeatable prices. Slowly, we noticed a change in how efficient this business is and it certainly was declining. I had my breaks "fixed" here once, about 2 years ago and had to constantly return to have them adjusted. After that experience, I told myself I would never come here again. Today, I changed my mind and wanted to see if anything had changed over the years. First off, they've updated their lounge and have established individual check-out stands. It looked promising but unsurprisingly, I was quickly disappointed. After waiting for about 20 minutes with not even a glance, a woman finally approached me and asked if I had an appointment. I'm well aware that this is not a jiffy lube or any sort of "get it, get out and go", but I have NEVER had to make an appointment here for an oil change...or for anything else for that matter. I was shocked when she asked me so I said, I just needed an oil change. Her response: "with only one technician on duty and 5 other people trying to get their car worked on ahead of you, the next available slot is Thursday." Seriously? Perhaps you should have saved the money you spent on that cheap lounge and hired more technicians. At least save the attitude: it's not my fault your establishment is understaffed. Anyone looking for an easy oil change-save yourself the trouble and go down the street to oil changers. Professional, timely and won't shoot attitude at you. read more

I made an appointment for 12:00 for an oil change, I checked in 30 mins before thinking they could start earlier. When I ask how long it will take I was told maybe 1 1/2 hrs. I asked if I may an earlier appointment would it be faster the answer was yes, therefore I canceled my 12:00 apt and may one the next day at 9:00 a.m. the second appt for the day. Check in before 9:00 took 15 mins because there was no one at the counter. When I checked in I told them I didn't need the tire rotation thinking I would get my car out faster was I wrong! At 10:15 my car was still in the parking lot, I ask what's taking so long, they responded he still working on the first car! For what I saw the car is up on the rack no one is working, people just walking around, drinking coffee, eating and looking at their phones. To the consumers eyes I don't see anyone working. My question to the company is what is the definition of an appointment? Customer service is terrible i will never go there again. Plus the waiting area is dirty. If your time is valuable then don't go there because you will be waiting forever. Response to comment: I shouldn't have to send you the details, just look at all the reviews it's obvious there is a problem with customer service and the time it takes to service the cars. If you value the company reputation maybe the company should do undercover and service your car. read more

Called and made 10am appt for today yesterday. In system appt for Saturday . Early so they said we can go ahead and do it. Well it is now 12 noon and told almost ready. Checking tire for leak and repair. Did not see any of the regular guys - Chris, Ryan or Marcus. Tires under warranty have to come here . Why is it so hard to get good work done in a timely manner. I've previously left a positive review for their parts department. This time I thought I'd try something simple like tire balancing. First, their online appointment system gave me a time when they were closed but they did call to reschedule. Then they expected me to wait 1 to 1-1/2 hours for a simple job (and from the other reviews, it looks like it may have been longer). Finally, even though their online site said $15.99, when I tried to confirm this, they said that was per tire. Mind you, a complete mounting and service package on their site is also about about $16 / tire. But the same price just for a balance? This, when places like Costco and Les Schwab will do all 4 for around $20? WTF? I'll continue buying parts there but their service department is a joke. read more

Called them looking for some parts. I was very clear about what I needed. They said they had them so we drove 40 miles in traffic only to find out they were the wrong parts. I talked to the manager and he said he was the one that looked them up and didn't see there was a front and rear. All he would say was I am sorry. Two words to describe the employees at this location are incompetent and dishonest. I came to Pep Boys Vallejo yesterday for basic tire and oil change and when I return home I notice my electronic trunk would not completely shut. No sweat, the gentlemen over there probably just did not realize it was electronically shut and slammed it too hard. Pep Boys is a large company I am sure there would be a solution for this. Not quite what happened when I came in today. They blamed me for the problem and would not take responsibility. They say the trunk noise was there to begin with even though there was no mention of in the paperwork. What was mentioned are other unnecessary work the they try to upsell me for. Your store in Vallejo Ca is terrible... Once again It has issues with taking care of the customer ... I gave them a chance and they still cant do things correctly... I ordered a part last night online and waited for my email telling it was ready for pickup... Guess what I got the email.. Take time to go pickup the part and the associate tells me he cant find it and that its probably still being transferred... What is the use of sending me a email notifiying me the part is there ready for pickup if its not really there... What a waste of my time, i ordered online to avoid this crap. I am really pissed off about this and this will be the last time I shop at PepBoys. If my part is not there when i check tomorrow I will take this to corporate level.. read more

I tour annually with my family and consequently spend most of our time in the car driving from city to city. Last year my 1998 Tahoe had zero AC. We started out in Vallejo Ca,(IN THE HEAT WAIVE OF 2013, JUNE 112 DEGREES COMING UP THROUGH DAVIS,CA) and took the car to PEP BOYS who told us the compressor was bad, and that the whole system was going to have to be replaced to the "tone" of $1200.00. We got a written estimate from them and headed up north for a show in Hood River Oregon. We took a chance on this mechanic, (Rafael) who took the car in for about three hours and then sent us on our way with cold AC!! Out the door cost . . . . .? $187.50 Everything worked great. Update 2/18/19: I went to Les Schwab in Vallejo for my tires since Pep Boys couldn't help me. I made an appointment and I have been at Les Schwab since 9:45am. The associate at Les Schwab came in and told me my tire and rim were not in the trunk of my vehicle. Soooooo.....again I had to call Pep Boys and ask them if they had my tire and rim. The associate on the phone told me I left to quick because they were trying to put the tire and rim in my trunk but, I took off. Again, NO ONE spoke to us when we went to pick our car up and they had our vehicle for almost 2 days. How would we have even known our old tire and rim weren't in our vehicle. The associate wanted to blame me for their lack of customer service. I told the Pep Boys Associate a Les Schwab service tech was going to go pick up my tire and rim. AGAIN, no apologies or explanation. They had my phone number and chose not to call us to come and get our tire and rim. This is completely unacceptable business practice. read more

I normally would only write reviews about food, but my experience today with Pep Boys seems too good not to mention. My friend and I went in to inquire about air filters since he needed one. I just accompanied him actually because I don't know anything about cars, like if mine will breakdown, I'll just ask my brothers or friends to do something about it. In short, I'm a complete know-nothing with parts or services a shop like this can offer. BUT with the way one of their coworkers explained things (If I remember it right, his name is Chris), I probably will try next time to buy or have mine serviced myself - and not just anywhere, but in this store for sure. They just renovated their store I think, and I should say that what they are doing right now is great because aside from the store, they probably are also doing a big change with their customer service (based on the previous reviews here that are not so good). When I walked in here yesterday, I don't have even the slightest intention of buying or worst, even to listen to whatever the sales team would have to say, but yeah, I've been owned because of the customer service they give (not to mention the enthusiasm their store manager is exuding every time a customer will walk in the store) even though they're not even sure if we really are to buy or what. I am definitely gonna go back here. I don't know if they realized it, but yes, they gained 2 loyal customers today. read more

I usually go to Big O Tires Benicia but the guy that I usually go see wasn't there so I went there and got a crazy price on some tail lights the guy quoted me like 50 so then I went to pep boys in Vallejo and talked to chris he was outstanding he even showed me every thing that was done to my truck his boss needs to give him a raise he got everything done in a quick amout of time if I ever have trouble with big o again I know I will go see chris !!!! I read the reviews before I towed my SUV to Pep Boys for a starting issue, spoke to Jazz the day before, and felt things would be OK. Between Jazz and Chris at the counter, I was totally surprised with excellent service, prompt phone calls letting me know progress, and fair dealing on final pricing for a new starter with installation and testing. Both guys were super pleasant and made me want to go back and refer others. It did take a while to get things done, but I brought that up at the counter and shared my views. You can't always tell how long a repair will take to do, or how long a backlog of cars already in line, will take to finish before yours. The waiting room is super comfortable with a big TV and WIFI and things to read. And there is an iHop and other restaurants, and COSTCO, right there. I went to get breakfast and read at iHop and they called when things were getting ready. All I can think of is Doctor's offices, and how these days it seems they are never on time, you always wait. Busy many times means they are good at what they do. I'm really happy with this store!!!!! read more

I went in the other day to see about getting my blinker light switched out. I looked around for an item I needed first and a couple minutes later Jarrod asked if I needed help. I told him my issue and he went in the back to see about appointment times. When he came back he told me they get pretty busy and offered to make me an appointment (while he rang up my item). He then offered to just walk out to my car and switch it out for me right then and there! I didn't have to be inconvenienced by having to go back because he was nice enough to take the time out and complete my request immediately. Chris is fantastic! I watched as he interacted with the customers, offering up a welcoming smile and approachable demeanor. When it was my turn, he graciously informed me, he had to step away to help a customer but would return shortly and shortly he did. My check engine light was on and I needed a code retrieval. He handled the retrieval himself. He was kind and funny which was appreciative when sitting with the unknown. Turned out to be a minor issue and Chris also offered to help that as well. I wish I had paid better attention to all the negative reviews of this Pep Boys in Vallejo. I booked an appointment for what should have been a routine job (a power steering refill) and after waiting two hours, I was told by the employee working the counter that the mechanics were unable to complete the job. When I pressed for an explanation why, I wasn't given a clear answer, only a head shake. Why I wasn't told this information before I booked the appointment-- and wasted three hours of a Saturday afternoon-- is baffling! I have filed a formal complaint against this Pep Boys. I would definitely think twice about patronizing this location. ( For the record, I have used Pep Boys in the past for similar routine services, and never had any problems.) read more
