Mexican restaurant, we've been here three times in the past few weeks and never disappointed! Raul runs a tight ship and still maintains a great sense of humor. We've had Henry, Jan, and Jose all wait on us so far, and they are all fabulous. I've had the fish taco lettuce wraps, which are very good, and an amazing chili relleno, which is one of the best I've had. Hubby is partial to the chimichanga and said it was the best in Florida. We also love the fresh guac! Also love the variety of seating places, inside or out. This new quaint restaurant instantly became a favorite of mine. Whenever I am in these neck of the woods---its now become my 1st choice! Tecate drinks or tequila shots 2/7.50 and 2 tacos your choice for 2/7.50. What a deal! Now, let's get back to our food! My friend and I bought individual plates, but we shared. Here is the scoop. A must try was the "Octopus Tostadas." OMG, I've got to say it just like I said it at the restaurant. There was an orgy of flavor spreading like wildfire in my mouth. It was epic! It was both refreshing and tasty. The wild thing about it, is that I do not like octopus. But, wow did I enjoyed it as my tastebuds were having a party. The rest of our food was delicious as well. As for the tostadas I will travel 45 mins to have them again! Definitely a must try! If you're in the area, or live near this place as it used to be my old neighborhood. Please give this place a shot! To be honest, I had discussed with my friend to go to a local old spot where I am familiar with. But, that's because I did not know of Pepe's Cantina. We are lucky to have DeBary selected as the 3rd location for a Pepe's Cantina in Central Florida, after Winter Park and Orlando. The decor is great as is the menu and service. I was there for lunch and I needed to work afterward, so I skipped the Margarita, but both the bar and drink menu looked inviting. I had the queso dip to start. It had a little spicy bite to it which I prefer to the cheese dips with no spice. My entre was the barbacoa (shredded beef) chimichanga and it was very good. Next time I will try the octopus chimichanga! For dessert I had the três leches cake and it was excellent. Although there are other entrenched Mexican restaurants in the Orange City/DeBary area, Pepe's Cantina is, in my opinion, a step above the others and well worth trying. read more

I would give it a 3.5, some of the reasons could be understandable for it being a new location and trying to straighten things out. Place: it's dim lit, looks pretty clean and somewhat big inside but what I didn't enjoy was how loud it was, I noticed that people were leaning in to talk or speaking loud. If ur looking for a place that u can enjoy a conversation it may not be the right place. Parking was slammed and there is parking in the rear in the grass. Locals are opting to use golf cart for transportation which is pretty cool but just be careful in the parking lot you don't run one of them over. Food: I found the food to be expensive for what you get in portions. I do understand that portions isn't everything, you can get a mound of food but still taste bad. I would gladly pay higher prices for smaller portions that tasted great. To me the food was mediocre for Mexican, it wasn't authentic as you think more of a Tex Mex. What threw me off was getting roasted potatoes and carrots with carne asada. Rice and refried beans are the staples of the Mexican cuisine, I asked to swap it out and was met with "they may be an extra charge." Which I notice they didn't charge me for it. The rice was bland, beans were alright and the carne asada was good at first but something about it felt off, like it was mushy and didn't really taste like it was on a grill. I also ordered the octopus tostadas which where alright but man where they small for the price. Now there chips and salsa game was on point. Salsa tasted good and fresh and the chips seemed fresh and new and not stale. I had the horchata drink and it was also pretty good. Service, some of the staff seem a little loss, they were very friendly and just overwhelmed with the amount of people, I didn't get a knife had to cut my steak bare handed. I feel that it's not their fault it's a new place, very busy and they just haven't found their groove just yet I would give them couple weeks and I'm sure they will iron things out. Would I go back? I used to go to the Winter Park location weekly. I had the Queso Fundido. It definitely not what I expected. I was expecting a creamy queso consistency and bigger pieces of Chorizo with some flavor. All I got was burned cheese and flavorless Chorizo. I will not be coming back to this location. There is also a rat trap clearly visible outside the restaurant. Not a good sign at all. read more

Food was good. We went for lunch and they had $5.75 Well Margaritas. However, i ordered a strawberry frozen and no one said that was not $5.75. It was the same size as the on the rocks and same liquor. It was $14. When i asked the waitress she said it was the strawberry flavor. $14 is a lot even for a large frozen Margarita But way too much for what i got. Pepe's in DeBary is a 3rd location for the restaurant. The food is fresh and we ordered tacos, fresh made table side guacamole and combo fajitas. I feel like money wise, you are spending 40-50% more than other local Mexican restaurants, but the food quality is fresher and meats are more tender. We love to eat out and not sure we will eat here more than a couple times per year because of that. If the prices were a little better, I'd give it 5 stars.
