I am in Georgetown, Kentucky for work this week and I finished early. So, I did some looking around and found Pepe's Mexican Restaurant close to my hotel. Walking in, I found myself in the middle of an explosion of color; just like I would expect in this type of restaurant. I was greeted quickly and taken to my table. My server was there immediately after I was seated with chips & salsa, and to take my drink order. I perused the menu and settled on Piñata Blanca. Piñata Blanca is a beef burrito with cheese dip and pico de gallo smothering the top. In addition to the burrito, it comes with a carne con queso bowl which is essentially a small, deep fried, flour street taco shell filled with ground beef and topped with queso and tomatoes. The dish also comes with sides of rice and beans. In typical Mexican restaurant style, my lunch came out of the kitchen quickly and was pipping hot. The dish was flavorful and plentiful. More than I should have eaten. I overate a bit! The chips were very nice. Warm, crispy, and slightly nutty tasting. The salsa was very good. Not to spicy, though I do love spice. Sometimes spicy salsa before a meal deadens your tastebuds for the rest of the meal. When my server, Jorge, brought me my bill, he was apologizing that he didn't visit my table enough to see how I was doing. There wasn't any issue at all in that department and I told him so. Jorge was super friendly, and a great server! Overall, I had a good experience at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant and for only spending $9.53 before tip, it was a great value! Now I've gone here a few times and it's been really good but the last time I went, it was my daughter's birthday. It was nice outside and she wanted to sit outside when she asked the server if we could have a table outside The server had a little bit of an attitude. We were basically taken outside and rushed to immediately order we weren't ready so we asked for some time. When she came back, we went ahead and ordered. She didn't give us much time so we just picked something and ordered. I wasn't too happy with mine. I took a bite and it was kind of awful so I just said it to the side she never came back. We ended up with a man so I'm assuming she went on break or went home which I understand because I was a server for years. My only issue is he grabbed the plate and didn't bother to ask me if I wanted anything else or if everything was OK so I ended up paying for a meal that I didn't even eat . We all felt very rushed. We were there for less than 30 minutes. We had people that were next to us that I had more visits from their server than we did the two that we had. We felt very unwelcome, which was very sad because as I said before, I've had really good experiences here up until this day but one bad experience can make you not want to come back. read more

We were craving Mexican, and this place was near our hotel. The parking lot was PACKED when we arrived-good sign right? The inside was beautiful!!! Ornate tables and chairs (see pics), murals on the wall... For the atmosphere, I'd totally give 5 stars The food: well, it was just alright. Good favor on the fajitas, stuffed chicken tacos were weird and served with a sauce on them-didn't taste bad, just nothing to write home about. The nachos were gross and I'd advise skipping them. Overall, I'd give the food 3 stars. Overall review-meeting in the middle and giving the place 4 stars. Worth a visit. read more

Lunch menu is typical Mexican restaurant fare. Service was super fast. Price is right. My waiter was kind of throwing things onto my table. Maybe was just him. Not sure if he was angry ?? Anyway. Decent food. I give it about 2.8 bellies. Also there was a weird funky shaving cream smell back where I was sitting. And the seats have no support support. We were visiting from Maryland but we are California natives and when I say we know Mexican food, we know Mexican food. As soon as we walked in, the smell and decor said "authentic" Mexican. I ordered the Chicken Cancun, my wife had the Carne asada tacos and my boys had chicken salad, stuffed chicken tacos, chicken fingers and a cheese quesadilla. We were truly impressed with the taste, quantity and price for the 6 of us. If you're just passing through, it's worth a stop. read more

My husband and I were staying close and this place checked the boxes for us. We are not "Fancy" pants. We both really liked the service, the decor, the raspberry frozen Margarita and fajita salad. My husband had grilled chicken salad which was a giant chicken breast over char grilled broccoli, cauliflower and some other veggies and he really enjoyed it to his surprise. We sat in a cozy booth along the perimeter. I get sensory overload in cavernous restaurants so I try to avoid that situation. This place didn't bother me and we were able to hear each other talk and enjoy each other's company. With that said, we will be back because we found some treasure in Georgetown. This place was one. Walking in you'll find a campy "Mexican" restaurant atmosphere. We were seated quickly and the staff was extremely attentive. The drinks were good... and right here is where all the good stuff stops. I've said for a long time that the best "Mexican" food east of the Rockies is a national bell fast food place. This restaurant didn't change my mind. When my wife and I's plates showed up they looked great. But looks isn't good food, and this isn't good food. My wife's chili relleno was cold on the bottom so it screamed microwaved. My carne asada, see picture, had zero "carne asada flavor" - it tasted a lot like roast beef. I can't explain it, but that's what it tasted like. The beans and rice were meh... ok the little quesadilla included wasn't bad, but that's it. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was the service. read more

The past few times the service has been awful. I ordered something off the menu and like to replace the chicken with steak (due to a food allergy to chicken) This is something I've been getting for months and never had a problem. I was told by the server they could not do that. When asked why I was met with an eye roll and a head shake. I have never been made to feel so stupid in my life as the server made me feel. To make matters worse the server continued to give me looks and never came back till I was done with food. I love this place but I am not coming back. I really enjoyed dining at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant! We visited this spot with family before heading into Lexington for a concert. Our meal was served hot and freshly prepared, everything was tasty, they had great margarita specials, and our service was quick and friendly. B and I each ordered two margaritas throughout our meal, and they were very reasonably priced and had plenty of tequila in them. We opted for an entree that included chicken, rice, queso, and tortillas, and we added refried beans on the side. It was all great! I love Pepe's. It has excellent food at great prices. (There is also usually a $5 off coupon on the back of my Kroger receipts). My favorite entree is the Cancun Chicken. It's a very large burrito filled with grilled chicken chunks and covered in delicious cheese sauce. It comes with generous portions of rice and beans. The service is good too. read more

Finally getting around to reviewing since I am now a local. I was introduced to Pepe's by my brother. He lived in Georgetown for quite a few years as did our mother so when I was in town from Colorado, we would usually come here at least once. It never fails to please and the ONLY strike I can give them is parking can be a bit challenging if you come at a busy time. You'll still be seated very quickly and get great service once you have managed to find a place to park. The ambiance is a little cheesy but, frankly, that's my lowest priority for most places I go. If the service is good (it is), the food is good (it definitely is), and I'm comfortable (both physically and mentally), I don't really care if it looks like a hole in the wall or if some gringo from 1962 designed the place. In fact, I have found the less 'atmosphere' a place has, the better it likely is. They are quick with the chips and salsa. I spent 25 years in Colorado where salsa is an art-form - this is a reliable standard. Not award-winning but you will enjoy it. I used to wander around the menu - never got anything bad, just nothing to really demand I order it again - until my brother keyed me in on the Pollo Vallarta. Very simple dish and it is simply amazing Every. Single. Time. I get it. My brother and his wife were regulars to the point their waiter would have the drinks at the table as they sat down. He would pause long enough to confirm what they wanted (making sure they weren't in the mood for something different) and have their order back to the kitchen post-haste. My brother and sister-in-law have since moved to Frankfort but when my fiancee and I happened to land in Georgetown, I already knew we had at least one place for good Mexican food. Pepe's Mexican restaurant is a weekly stop for my family. You know how everyone has "their" Mexican restaurant? This one is mine. I think about the meal a couple times per week- not going to lie! None other shall compare. Get the Super Chimichanga, or two soft chicken chimichangas and you may never be the same. Ask for hot sauce to mix in their already amazing salsa for an extra kick. Let me start off by saying that this is NOT the Chicago chain of Pepe's restaurants. This is an original. I was actually shocked to find alot of Mexican people in Georgetown, KY. I'm glad I did, though! I'm from Chicago, and, love this restaurant! Very, very good service, excellent food, and, an out of this world awesome atmosphere! Beautiful Mexican designs! I would call it artwork! Their chips and salsa were very good. I cannot say enough about them! There are alot of Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants in Chicago. They're very authentic. Ate there tonight and after being sat the waiter comes over and tells us they are closing at 930 and we say ok. Then comes back 5 minutes later and says the manager wants to close at 9 and we have 6 minutes to order and if we wanted alcohol we gotta order now before the bar closed. We order our food and the queso came out ice cold... at least microwave it or something.... now some of the entrees were hot and pretty good. The steak tacos we ordered came with only steak on them. No onions or cilantro or anything and when I asked for some they wanted to charge me $4 for the toppings... But the hot food was good and thats why this got 2 stars instead of 1. Then while we were eating the guy stood there and watched us while the other turned off every light around us except the one over us. The TVs were all turned off as well. Nice decor love the wall murals! But the food could be better the vegetables were over cooked. The salsa was flat no heat at all and heavy on the tomato paste. I asked for a Salsa with more kick and received a Mole sauce yes it had more heat on the back end but again the flavor was flat almost bitter. The quesadilla was the best thing I ordered, nice and cheesy and a nicely browned and crisp flout tortilla. I will give them another try maybe, next time down to see the In-laws. read more

Currently rated a two and a half, I totally disagree. I'm going with 4 and a half. I've tried them all, and I think this is the best Mexican restaurant option in Georgetown. It used to be Mi Mexico, owned by the same people as the Lexington location. I'm not sure if that's still the case after they added "Pepe's" to the name. The menu is the same or similar to the Lexington Mi Mexico. I love that the lunch specials were even available during the weekends. And the specials are plenty. Actually, the lunch portions that we had were plentiful, not the smaller version of the dinner options, just a cheaper version. I ordered the Grande chicken fajita burrito. At a mere $7.49, it was a steal considering it is was one of the biggest burritos that I've ever had. I requested no red sauce and they left off the cheese too, which made me a bit peeved when I mentioned it and the waitress said that she could bring out cheese and she mentioned that there would be a fee... the menu indicated that it came with cheese. That burrito, though literally outweighed the cheese mishap. My husband ordered the lunch quesadilla, and he too was pleasantly surprised at the size, and that it also included a nice portion of beans and rice. It was a bit under temperature, so we didn't sit out on the patio, but I did notice the sign that indicated that the patio is open for the season. read more

Stopped by for after work margaritas and a quick bite. They offer HUGE margaritas and towers for sharing. The food was just average and service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush. They have a nice patio area but they allow smoking on the patio which was a major turn off for me. read more

Won't be back. We've tried this place a few times and have not been satisfied once. The food is mediocre (chips are stale and taste like oil), the restaurant need a good deep clean, and some of the wait staff are very uninterested in providing good service. Whenever I am out of state on business, I make a point of trying the local Mexican food. You could say that I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of Baja cuisine - both cooking it and stuffing my face with the grub. I was pleasantly surprised that in a town with a billion fast food joints, bar n' grills, Steak n' Shakes and a lonely Applebee's - that there was an authentic Mexican restaurant. Tonight, images of sizzling fajitas were dancing in my head. The glowing sign of Mi Mexico seductively called to me, and I was watering - my mouth, that is. I quickly chose the Hawaiian fajitas: chicken, prawns, bell peppers, onions, tomato's, mushrooms, and big, fat, juicy, pineapple chunks! It was accompanied by a generous plate of re-fried pinto beans, Spanish rice, sour cream and a dollop of guacamole. Delish! (I thought I was the only genius that put pineapple in fajitas. Nice move, Mi Mexico.) The chips and salsa that conveniently showed up swiftly after I sat down were good. I've had better, but I've also had worse. I'll occasionally hit this location up for lunch. Service is always prompt to get me back to the office on time. Once I found the Aztec quesadilla, there was no going back. We like to come at least once a month. The lunch menu it's better now. They have good prices for lunch time. I ordered the Fajita Steak Lunch menu and it tasted very good. I loved the complementary spicy sauce of the day. You have to ask the waiter for the spicy sauce. Service is good. If you want easy good lunch time come to Pepe's. read more

Close to home and easy to get to. This has been my go to spot for Mexican food in Georgetown. The Tacos Carne Asada is my favorite dish here. The service is hit and miss from time to time but overall it's good. Patio seating is great and they have live music throughout the week at times. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in georgetown if ever. The only problem I have is their service. Theyve forced us out before when theyre open (we could walk inside and had someone walking out with their to go order when we went inside). Along with that we asked for another canister for salsa and that wed pay for it and we were told no even though other people around us could. Along with that i was there by myself the other day and they werent busy and i said my order 3 times and they sent it to me wrong. It was really a basic order that is hard to screw up and still was. The waiter noticed me picking off all the extra stuff i didnt order and then avoided me the rest of the time. I love this restaurant and its got the best mexican food ever but definitely needs some improvement. read more

I will preface this by saying the kitchen was short staffed however, this does not excuse what occured. I placed a to go order at 6:34 pm on 11 May 2022. I'm a patient person, 30 or so minutes later the hostess told me they were packing up my order. Good deal...this was in fact untrue. 7:34 pm roles around and the staff realizes my food had been sitting at the bar for whatever reason, and bring it to me. Food was cold. I have told myself time and time again I would not eat here again, gave them a chance and again I was left disappointed. There are several mexican restaurants in Georgetown that are far better. Stay away if you can. Never understood why this mediocre place gets the business it does. read more

Visited for dinner during the week and this place was not busy at all. Ordered the enchiladas which were decent but not they best I've ever had. This is not a place I would recommend to others, unless you are going for margaritas and chips with salsa. The margarita was good and I enjoyed the salsa they served with the chips before the meal. Since this place wasn't busy, you could hang out with friends here after work when you want relax. They have Tv's you can watch if you understand Spanish or like to watch soccer. read more

Tried Pepe's for the first time tonight and you know what? Not too bad. To be honest though, I think it was the people I dined with. They were a fantastic bunch. If the meal experience with them wasn't such a delight, then I would been inclined to think Pepe's itself is just OK. Pepe's is bright and eclectic (we spent some time staring at the mural in the lobby, contemplating the objects in the picture) with a spacious dining room (with several televisions tuned to sports channels) and an extensive menu of various Mexican dishes and drinks. Chips & salsa are served when you are seated (they were OK) and after you order, the food arrives rather quick! After looking at the vegetarian section of the menu, which had more than just "bean burritos" as an option (woo-hoo!), I ordered a vegetarian fajita. It arrived as a pile of steaming hot vegetables alongside a plate of rice, beans, & toppings. Upon first glance, it seemed like a huge portion. But somehow, I managed to eat it all. Delicious? Yes. Best ever? Nah. It was just a normal veggie fajita. Delicious enough to eat but not stunning. All the dishes on the table looked equally filling and mildly delicious. I can't judge though, because I didn't try them. Food prices were typical for chain Mexican restaurants. Would I come here again? Yes, if someone else suggested it.
