While they were cooked properly, I wish they had a bit more seasoning to really bring out the flavor. My wife had the enchiladas divorciadas, which were beautifully presented, but unfortunately, the filling was a bit cool. She probably should have sent it back, but since we were in a hurry, we didn't bother. On the positive side, my daughter had the carne asada burrito, and she said it was excellent. Service started off great with our younger male waiter being very attentive at first, but it slowed down significantly as our meal went on. By the end of our visit, I actually had to go up to the register to ask to pay. It was lunch time, and it wasn't that busy, so this felt a bit out of the ordinary. Despite the hiccups, I'm willing to give Morena's Mexican Cuisine another try, as it may have just been an off day. The chips and salsa, along with my daughter's burrito, showed that they definitely have what it takes to impress. I'll reserve final judgment after my next visit!

One of my favorite parts was the fresh tortillas. They come out hot and fresh from the oven, and you can literally watch them being made right in front of you, which made it even better. And the best part is they're free. We ordered the carne fajitas and chile relleno. The fajitas were incredible, the meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, with that perfect smoky sear that comes from being cooked fresh on a hot skillet. Everything came out sizzling and stayed flavorful with every bite. The chile relleno was also really good, with a nice balance of savory and slightly creamy filling that paired well with the sauce. It was actually my first time trying fajitas, and I can confidently say I'll be ordering them again the next time I come back. I definitely plan on returning while I'm still at UCR to make up for all the years I didn't know this place existed.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Pepitos Mexican, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The restaurant, known for its Mexican cuisine, failed to impress me with its lackluster offerings. One of the most disappointing aspects of my visit was the menu presentation. Upon receiving the menu, I was surprised to find that none of the dishes had prices listed. Instead, diners were expected to use a QR code to access the menu online. This proved to be a significant inconvenience, especially when trying to be cost-conscious and make informed decisions about what to order. It would have been much more convenient if the prices were clearly displayed on the menu itself. Moving on to the food, it fell short of expectations. I ordered the chile relleno, a classic dish that should be bursting with flavor. However, what arrived at my table was a disappointment. The chile relleno was smothered in an excessive amount of cheese, which overwhelmed the taste of the dish. It lacked the balance and subtlety that one would expect from a well-executed chile relleno. To make matters worse, the sides served with the dish were equally underwhelming. The beans had an unpleasant watery consistency, and the rice was nothing more than average. These elements contributed to the overall lack of satisfaction with the meal. Beyond the lack of flavor and subpar side dishes, another letdown was the pricing. Considering the quality and taste of the food, the prices at Pepitos Mexican were simply too high. I felt that I was paying a premium for a dining experience that fell far short of its value. Given my experience, I cannot recommend Pepitos Mexican to others. The food was basic and lacked the vibrant flavors that are characteristic of Mexican cuisine. Moreover, the pricing was unjustifiably high, making it difficult to overlook the lack of quality. The inconvenience of having to rely on a QR code to access the menu and the absence of listed prices only added to the disappointment. With so many other options available, it would be wise to explore other Mexican restaurants in the area that offer a more authentic and satisfying dining experience. In summary, Pepitos Mexican left me unimpressed with its lackluster food, including an excessively cheesy chile relleno, watery beans, and mediocre rice. The absence of prices on the menu and the reliance on a QR code for menu access were additional inconveniences. The high prices only further diminished the overall experience. I would not choose to visit this restaurant again and would suggest looking elsewhere for a more flavorful, reasonably priced, and customer-friendly Mexican dining experience. read more

Pepitos has been a long time favorite of our family. We've celebrated many birthday and special occasions there. Recently we celebrated a friend's special birthday. The food is always delicious - try the carne asada plate with shrimp, enchiladas morelia, enchiladas suizas, chile verde and the trio combo fajitas. Add a Cadillaca Mega Margaritas or Michelada and you are set for a great time! Our waitress, Vanessa is outstanding, always making sure we have everything we need regardless of how busy the restaurant is. Luis, the manager, takes pride in his work. What makes him stand out is that he assist his staff with anything they need. I've seen him fill up the ice in the bar, deliver food, and with a genuine kindness, ask his wait staff if they need anything. Very different demeanor from a past manager. Additionally, he never fails to stop by and say hello. If you've been coming to Pepitos, you have found a great place. If you've never tried Pepitos, I highly recommended it! My family and I came to eat here food was amazing but the servers quality needs much improvement. She took forever to come ask us what we wanted to drink, took forever for our order and as we finished we asked her for our check, two box's and a soda to go she tile us she would be right back never came back we waited 15 minutes before I got up to go see where she was to ask for our stuff again. When I was looking for her she was in a circle with fellow servers leaning against the wall acting like she had no tables .... When I asked foe the stuff one of the other servers replied aren't you on break like that made any difference. As a server myself you should know I'd your going on break introduce your table to another server to take over till you come back. I believe her name was Natalie, I can't remember she didn't have a name tag. I think management needs to talk to there servers and show them how to have better customer service. read more

The food is terrible and so is the staff their. Most of them got attitudes and glare at you. I saw bartenders flirting with other bartenders and ignoring customers requests last week. They lecture the workers and yell at them supposedly not keeping up when I see they do a good job and keeping up with the pace. This is a sad restraunt compared to what it used to be before some of their workers vape right outside the front entrance. I also seen a worker bring her tinder date over even though the bar was closed and they were having people leave which is very unprofessional and disrespectful and disgusting. I don't know how you guys are still in business especially with some of their waitresses attitudes. And I certainly don't know why the manager hides his multiple beer cups all around the restraunt when he is clearing wobbling half the time after drinking them read more

It's a Saturday...had a party of seven. They sat us right away. Gabby was our server & she was OUTSTANDING!!! Very Friendly, Helpful & Honest! The food was great! I'm not sure what's going on at this restaurant but the service has completely plummeted in the last month. I used to love coming to this location with my family on Sundays or whenever me and the husband wanted a nice relaxing drink during the week. However, in the past month I've found that they have no staff readily available to seat me in a decent time or to continuously check up on me and my family. This location used to be very attentive with their customers but it seems that they no longer have the same customer service they once had. I absolutely love coming to Pepito's in Canyon Crest! The food is consistently amazing! Everything from the tacos to the fajitas is full of flavor and always fresh. My husband, daughter, and I absolutely love coming here! It's one of our favorite places to eat. The staff is always so sweet, welcoming, and attentive, which makes every visit enjoyable. We had an amazing experience at Pepitos Mexican Restaurant with a party of 30+ people. The booking process was smooth and easy thanks to Eduardo. From the moment we arrived, Ashley and Abraham truly went above and beyond. They were incredibly friendly, kind, and attentive to everyone's needs all night long. We had a private family event in the upstairs room after my Mother's funeral service. Luis the manager was especially gracious and accommodating to our family. The rest of his staff (including the bar tenders!), were great and very attentive. It was a little pricey, but worth it because it was unlimited tacos, enchiladas, rice, beans, soft drinks, chips, salsa, on and on....We ALL left stuffed and very happy! My sister and I use to love going to Pepitos for Margaritas and happy hour food at least once or twice a week. The quality of the food has really gone downhill while prices have gone way up. The margaritas have gone from $8.00 to $12.00 firing happy hour. I can understand a $2.00 price increase but 50%...WOW! The quality of the steak and chicken are almost inedible! The manager, Luis is amazing and always stops by to say hello and greets us with a big smile! Zacatecas is a family owned, authentic, traditional Mexican style restaurant, and they've been open since 1969. You know this place is good because they close at 3pm everyday and they stay in business. We ordered 2 Large Menudos and 1 Shredded Beef Taco and I did find the pricing very steep. It was almost $50. The menudo, alone, was $19 each. The menudo is full bodied and rich in flavor. This is one that actually doesn't need a lot of lemon because of that. It includes the menudo spices, oregano, lemon, cilantro, onions, and corn tortillas. I can make 2-3 meals out of the portion, so it's definitely shareable. This was the 1st time I was absolutely disappointed in the shredded beef taco (due to packaging). We got it to go and they wrapped it in foil and placed it between two hot bowls or menudo. By the time I got home, the cheese was melted and the lettuce was completely wilted. It made it almost inedible. If you dine in, they actually give you hot mole sauce to enjoy with your chips and salsa but if you get it to go, they charge you. I don't understand that but that's how it's always been. This restaurant also offers catering and can host events up to 150 people. Something to keep in mind if planning a party or event. The ambiance is perfect of an evening event. With the exception of my shredded beef taco, this remains one of my favorite Mexican food spots

All in all, I wouldn't come back on my own, but I'd be open to trying something else if a friend wanted to go.

But the carne asada is a good place to start. The prices are covered since the first visit but given costs of food and fluctuations, it's understandable. However, it's good to know what you're paying up front, so hopefully that changes soon. Another caveat is the $1.50 card fee, the highest I'm aware of, so cash is best clearly. I ate a big, messy, delicious carne asada burrito the first time, and their salsas also made everything better. The most recent visit saw me going a different direction by choosing the taco salad, in a large fried tortilla bowl. From the bottom up were: Beans, rice, carne asada (or any other meat you want), lettuce and, and tomatoes and avocado on top. I was surprised how filling it was, and it tasted so good, too. I suppose I'll try their tacos next and explore more from there in subsequent trips.

It doesn't look super fancy inside, but it enough to make you feel comfortable eating in. The cooks are still always very quick to make the food (typically 10 minutes or less of a wait), the service is great, and the food is always consistently SO good! I think my favorites are their BRC burrito and their ground beef tacos. The tacos are ALWAYS PACKED with beef and cheese. They don't put loads of beans in their burritos either, so it's a nice mix of BRC, which is what I love. I am just now realizing I have no pictures of the food I have gotten because I tend to eat it pretty quickly when I get it, but the images in the Yelp gallery are usually what you'll get. I have never had a bad experience with the food here! The only thing, that has been bad in my experience is issues with their soda fountain. I feel like any time I have ordered the diet or Pepsi zero (that's the only soda I drink-zero sugar/diet), it ends up tasting low on the syrup/taste. It's nearly every time I order the soda for some reason. Overall though, this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time and I would always recommend people come in to try!:) 10/10!

Very good. The burrito was also very large and filling but the pork wasn't tender at all. Almost as if the meat was cooked earlier in the week. The refried beans were very flavorful and delicious. The cost of $20 seemed to be a good value. I will be back for the tacos but my switch out the chile verde.
