Insanely crispy fried chicken! Delicious toppings. I've tried the spicy and the classic chicken sandwiches on brioche. They are huge! I actually weighed one at home and it came in at around 8ish ounces of chicken and toppings. I just finished one and I'm in a food coma now. Probably shareable. I tried Golden Diner, and this chicken is crispier. By the way, the ambience is clean but nonexistent. And the Services is fast and courteous.
I saw online that this place had some of the best fried chicken and so we had to try it when we were in New York and it did not disappoint. Honestly, some of the best Fried chicken I've ever had. It melted in your mouth yet had a perfect crunch and the sauce it came with was delicious. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Elite fried chicken, crazy mala flavor on the chicken quarters, spice bag was great flavor with a unique blend of spices and the chicken sandwich with chili oil on a milk bun was top tier. They have gloves for you to eat with and I highly recommend using them but this is a must try spot
Unfortunately, this restaurant disappointed me. I've been reading about it and seeing videos about it for months, but I felt like the chicken sandwich just fell flat. It wasn't as juicy as I would have liked. The flavor wasn't as complex as I would have liked. I was mostly just getting heat. I feel like I could easily get a much better chicken sandwich in the city. The service was fast, and I liked the casual comfort of the restaurant. However, due to the food lacking complex flavors, I will not be returning.

There's an energy to the food that feels modern without losing sight of technique or tradition. That balance comes directly from chef and founder Eric Huang. Huang grew up working in his family's Chinese restaurant while training as a cellist at Juilliard School before eventually abandoning music. After a detour studying history at Northwestern University, he committed fully to cooking and spent more than a decade training in some of NYC's most prominent kitchens, including Cafe Boulud, Gramercy Tavern, and Eleven Madison Park. As a sous chef at Eleven Madison Park, he was part of the team that helped the restaurant earn the title of "Best Restaurant in the World" in 2017. Like many chefs, Huang's plans changed dramatically in 2020 when the pandemic interrupted his ambitions of opening a Michelin-starred restaurant. Instead, he returned home to help save his family's struggling business. Out of that difficult moment came the dish that would define Pecking House: the now-famous Sichuan chili country fried chicken, reportedly perfected on the very first attempt. Saw this place on social media and wanted to give it a try! It's a small, but clean little shop with chicken decor everywhere. There's only 4 small tables, so if you want to eat-in, I would recommend coming a little earlier or getting take-out, as that seemed to be a popular option. Once you get there, you order at the counter and then take a seat at a table. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, but it was during the dinner rush. We asked for what was popular and was told the Chili Sandwich and the Chinatown sandwich. Definitely can taste all the chinese spices on the chicken, super flavorful and both sandwiches were crispy. Both were good, but felt like maybe could have a little something more to help balance the flavors. A little pricey for a sandwich in my opinion, but this place was still good to try and they do the fried chicken well!
My partner brought me to Pecking House on a Saturday afternoon. I was like, where are you taking me?? We shared a chili chicken sandwich and fries. While we ordered it to go, thankfully some seating opened up in time. Our order took 25 minutes to be served. There are 4 tables inside that seat up to 2 people, a few stools if you really want to cram in there for a part of 4 MAX. While I say be prepared to order takeout, it's quite a messy sandwich due to the nature of fried chicken and the chili oil, so it's best eaten sitting down with many napkins readily available. I really loved the chili chicken sandwich, and thought the Sichuan spice was prominent. The fries were $8 which I first found pricey, but it comes with a LOT of fries. The experience was good overall; it is bit pricey (total was $26 for a sandwich + fries), doesn't have many healthy options, and limited seating.

Yes, you can hear the rumbles of the subways running over your head as you eat, and no, do not mistake it for you passing gas, because you will likely be doing that too as you exit due to all the oil and richness of some of the items on the menu. The Chili Chicken Sandwich is a good place to start for something quick and easy. It is like an Asian take on the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. It has plenty of heat, but not too overwhelming. The pickles help balance it out nicely. A close comparison would be more like Wooboi in Herndon (yes, it was not all bad over there). The fact it is a plump and juicy bird only makes it easier to eat, as well as the milk bread. Good call there. I also got the Chili Chicken Wontons. Eight to an order, and super delicate, these have nice flavor that does not go overboard on the chili. I also recommend getting some rice to help counter some of the oil. The rice is a good saturation agent that will not only soak up the oil and sauce, but help put a plug on the digestive system so it can go to work without going into maximum overdrive. You also have to get some cornbread as it is as simple as it gets without the crazy. Eat this last because it will come to your table piping hot. They also offer French fries, which I tried some, but the portion is huge and it is a truly dense potato. This is best shared. I also like that they offer free water for you to get at your leisure. That makes me a happy customer. Next time you feel a little rumble (and not because you know you are near Manhattan Bridge), tumble your way here and get your spice game on. No need to worry, your insides will survive.
Very very good deep fried chicken. I got chicken sandwiches and tenders. Chicken is very crispy, crunchy, and juicy. There is savory spicy and a slightly sweet ( similar like some potato chips, the msg gives you a taste of sweetness) I've never had deep fried chicken with Szechuan peppercorn sauce. Tho I have to warn you the chicken were strongly coated with Szechuan peppercorn chili oil. Fabulous but strong! If you love deep fried chicken this is a must try.
We've been wanting to try the famous chili chicken sandwich here after seeing a lot of hype for it online. Walking in it's a small space with 4 tables. We were able to grab one and ordered the chili chicken sandwich and their fries. The sandwich was ok. It didn't seem to have a specific flavor to it, just spice. The fries were really good and I liked the ranch it came with. The employees were very friendly, but I'm not sure if this lived up to the hype.
I'm salivating just thinking about pecking house again. Small little storefront, big huge tastes. Just look at the sando and you know you're in for a treat. We came here in June, it was 102 degrees outside, the AC in the shop was seemingly on it's last legs and barely running, and I happily sat there sweating my face off eating one of the best fried chicken sandos of my life. Had heat but not too much (i like spice), crazy fragrant, amazing texture. When we got the salted egg yolk wings, the salted egg yolk sauce was literally still bubbling as it dripped off the kitchen. I do have one huge regret. They had merch and we LOVED the tshirt - both my bf and I wanted one, but they were out of both a mens large and a women's small. A tragedy. I've filed this away for half a year now just waiting for our next nyc trip to check for them again.
Had high hopes but it didn't live up to the hype. Tried the chili chicken sandwich, salted egg quarter chicken and regular chicken sandwich with fries. Everything was just okay. Nothing spicy, unique or memorable. Probably wouldn't return.

I'd give this place a 9/10! I ordered through DoorDash, and I was impressed that the chicken still arrived crispy and full of flavor. It had the perfect amount of dry heat and spices. We ordered a variety of spice levels, and even the mild had plenty of flavor despite not being very spicy. If the food was this good after delivery, I can only imagine how amazing it is fresh. I'll definitely be coming back to try it in person the next time I'm in New York! Get the fries!! Wish I got more pictures of the food but I was too hungry !! read more
I ordered the Sichuan Extra Hot Chicken, which came with two chicken quarters (a whole leg and thigh). The chicken was fried perfectly; it crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside. The portions are generous, and although I paid almost $30 for dinner with rice, I still had enough left over for another meal. It's definitely pricier than many of the more affordable spots around Chinatown, but they're serving a more niche menu rather than the usual dumplings, noodles, or Chinese BBQ, so I think the price is justified. They also accept cards, which is convenient compared with some other spots in the neighborhood that are cash-only. The main reason I'm giving it 4 stars is the service. There was some miscommunication with the staff, my drinks were brought to another table, and they almost did the same with my food before I signaled that it was mine. The tables also weren't the cleanest and could've used a quick wipe-down between guests. That said, the restaurant is very small, probably only 10-12 seats, so space is definitely limited. Despite the service issues, I really enjoyed the food and would come back. If you're looking for something different from the typical Chinatown offerings, Peking House is definitely worth trying! read more

There's an updated aesthetic + new wall decor (menu is no longer above the counter). The menu remains Asian-inspired with mostly the same items, maybe with a few changes. Atmosphere leans more Hispanic now, with Spanish music in the background. There's only a few tables. HIGHLY recommend using the offered gloves to eat, as their food is saucy + oily, + there's no bathroom. Cleaning up with just napkins + hand sanitizer wasn't enough for me. Save yourself the trouble. Hands down one of the best fried chicken I've had! Cool little place in chinatown with bomb fried chicken!! Don't remember how we discovered this place. There were 4 tables inside, no bathrooms. We got the fried chicken whole wings (3) for $12. The wait to get the food was about 10 minutes. The fried chicken wings were huge and came out so fresh and juicy! The seasoning was so good and it was fried to perfection. The meat was tender on the inside and super crispy on the outside!! Recommend!! read more

Tiny hole in the wall spot with four tiny tables. No outdoor seating. The smell grease is overpowering. Staff are courteous and friendly. Tiny menu; just a few items available. French fries were absolutely bland, which was disappointing because the fries themselves were light and crispy. Chicken wings were the highlight: they were perfectly crispy, crunchy and will seasoned. Chicken tenders were pretty decent too. The meat was juicy, not dry at all, which was nice. Cucumber salad was OK. Definitely needed more time to marinade. The spice bag was on the spicy side, so be warned. Overall, if you get anything spicy here, be prepared that your sinuses will flow freely. No bathroom on premises, so watch out and plan to use the restroom somewhere else. read more
Pecking House was completely empty on a rainy Friday afternoon and the vibes were very casual. It's a order and seat yourself joint, but there are only about 5 small tables and no bathroom. I'd say the food is solid, but not life changing. Pricing is okay for NYC and a little high for Chinatown area. Classic Sando (3.75/5): The chicken itself was good! Great craggly crunch, juicy and flavorful, but I found the rest of the sandwich to be just okay. The bread wasn't my favorite and there was just too much of it. Lotta mayo, but not enough to compensate for the textures. Wanted a slaw or something to break up the very heavy flavors. Chili Quarter Chicken (4.25/5): Spice is reminiscent of mala and it makes your mouth tingle. Looks intimidating, but actually isn't that spicy. Chicken was tender and very juicy - generally prefer it plain over in the sandwich. read more

Rating: 9/10 Date Last Visited: 8/23/2025 We ordered the Chili Sandwich ($16), Leg Quarters ($16), Spice Bag ($14), and Chicken Salt Fries ($8). The chicken in all three entrees were delicious - they were well seasoned, fried perfectly, and super juicy. The leg quarters were the star of the show, they were enormous. Each leg was coated beautifully with batter and seasoning. The chicken itself was juicy and delicious. Although the sandwich was a bit small for the price, the flavor was solid and each bite was elite. The spice bag is done as well as it could be - the curry was solid and went well with the fried chicken bites and crispy fries. The chicken salt fries were crispy but I didn't really taste the chicken salt, it tasted like regular fries but still good. Overall, this place is solid and worth trying if you want an Asian twist on fried chicken. read more

It's a very small restaurant hiding at the edge of Chinatown on a quiet street. The restaurant is very small only four small tables for two you can sit down to eat. Most people are take out and delivery available on DoorDash too. I had the chili chicken sando, deep fried chicken dark meat soaked in chili sauce and chili oil, it's very flavorful but not too spicy. The coating is very crispy. The quarter dark meat chicken is a whole leg, the size isn't very big. I picked the salty egg option which is $1 addition. I'm usually a salt egg fan but I don't think it wows me on the big piece of chicken. The food are very oily and they advertised themselves WITH MSG, which it's fine, there's no concrete evidence of MSG is bad unless you over consume it. If you have problem with oily food and MSG this might not be your place. The cashier is super nice, delivered food to my table and even brought me utensils and box tissue that I forgot to grab, the price went up. Isn't a cheap place to eat in Chinatown read more

I'd heard so much about Pecking House--the viral waitlist, the Chinese-inflected fried chicken, all the TikTok buzz--so I finally checked out the Chinatown location. The chicken looks amazing and it tasted good. There was a decent amount of spice and the crispy coating is solid. But honestly, I wasn't blown away by it. For all the hype around this place, I expected something more memorable. It's solid fried chicken, but not sure it warrants the lines and social media frenzy. Worth trying if you're in the area and curious, but temper your expectations. read more

Omfg so good! Came here twice on our trip. The first time we got whole wings (chili sauce). They were incredible. They also provide gloves so your hands don't get dirty. I would recommend this to anyone coming to ny. The second time we got the leg and thigh in the same chili oil sauce and it was also incredible. This place serves all the hype! read more
I tried the chili chicken sandwich and it was kind of average. - The picture on the menu showed it on a bun but it came on a thick cut milk bread. - The spices aren't overwhelming but it does come off as grainy - There was no way for me to tell that the chili oil was made with duck fat - The sandwich is big so it lasted for 2 meals - I am not sure why this sandwich is so popular read more
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile but not willing to make the trip to Brooklyn. So imagine my joy when I realized they opened a location only 2 blocks away from my home. This hole in the wall has 3 tables so take out is probably your better choice. I ordered the salted egg and chili flavors and my god, some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. I only wished I ordered the half chicken and not just the quarter. For your reference, the quarter chicken is only a drumstick and a small piece of the thigh. Located on what must surely be one of the most forlorn corners of Manhattan, Pecking House serves up an eccentric menu of Chinese-Southern fusion. In spite of the name, they offer plentiful vegetarian options, including such oddities as a mapo tofu hero. On this inaugural visit I was just popping in for a snack, so I tried the miso butter daikon, which was phenomenal, served with some sort of chimichurri topping; and the charred cucumbers, which come with a creamy gravy. I will definitely be back to try the more substantial vegetarian offerings soon. read more

Pro-tips: They let you choose if you want white meat or dark meat for the quarter chicken. If you're interested in only one type of chicken meat or do you want to try two flavors, you should just order two quarter chickens and pay the extra dollar then if you were to get the half chicken. Highlights: Really fun casual fried chicken joint. I really like that it's Asian inspired flavors and there's some creative options on the menu. I like that you get to choose what type of meat you want for the chicken. The chicken is extremely juicy and a pretty good size as well. The chili chicken sandwich was very flavorful and I thought the salted egg was unique. Lowlights: It's a fairly small place so there's only three tables and they are usually taken. Very cool option for some uncommon fast food. I tried the mapo tofu sandwich and the cauliflower meal with extra hot sauce and the turnips on the side. The breading on the cauliflower is super crispy, which I really enjoyed. The extra hot sauce is spicy but not overwhelmingly so, but comes with plenty of fragrant and roasted notes. The turnips on the side were more subtly flavored and offered a nice contrast to the cauliflower. The mapo tofu was also super interesting. A lot of the flavor on the tofu is similar to the sauce on the cauliflower, with less spiciness. The variety of greens, yuba, and sauces on the sandwich were all in good balance. Pretty good food here. Service is good. That turkey bacon fried rice is soooo good with siracha. Got the whole chicken wings xtra hot. It's a dry rub and has a similar taste to Indian spices. It's Pecking and not Peking, and, it's Henry and not Hester street, so do not get the search results twisted. The chicken was delicious and bursting with flavor. I plan to go back to try everything on the menu. The location is off the beaten path for me so this establishment allows me to venture off and try something new with homage to their chicken being off the beaten track. read more
This place is so good that I actually cannot come that often because I would eat here like every day lol. The chinatown sandwich was absolutely delicious and one of the best sandwiches i've ever had. The cucumber salad with mushrooms was so refreshing and a nice touch since this is a heavy meal. The turkey bacon fried rice was also really good, happy to had try it but I wouldn't order again (mainly because I would wanna try other stuff on the menu). The salted egg chicken quarter was so good and obviously freshly made (wait like 10 minutes before eating because it's so hot temperature wise lol). Reflecting on it though we would order the chicken wings instead because i'd be easier to eat. The store itself isn't too big but we were lucky enough to grab a seat. A new import from across the river. This is a fast food type of place, set up with a few tables and chairs to dine in. I remember stopping by here when it was a pizza place. It is a bit out-of-the-way in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge. It was a Friday afternoon but was busy. The young woman taking orders was helpful answering my questions. She is pleasant to the point of being "alarming" I overheard someone say. It did not appear that cash was accepted. I had the chicken leg with garlic and herb. I had a side of potato salad that was very unique and unlike anything I have had before. It is mayo based but a bit lighter tasting with some greens adding some crunch. The chicken was very umami tasting, it appeared to be fried chicken with a saucy coating and crispy skin. I am a Popeye's fan, but this was very different. read more
This is a very small restaurant with no bathroom. However, it packs a punch with flavor. In general, I am quite skeptical of fried chicken. A lot of places have dry chicken and it makes me sad. It was not the case here. We ordered the chili half chicken. First of all, it is much more meat than it looks like in the picture. Secondly, I have no idea how this chicken was so juicy. As soon as we ripped into it, juice was overflowing into the basket. The chili was on point. The chicken was perfect. I couldn't believe it. Pro tip - there are gloves and hand wipes at the counter, also complementary water. I only wish they had a bathroom. Nevertheless, I am coming back when I can. read more
Came across this place that's under the bridge around the lower east side. They have a good amount of menu items to choose from. Service was efficient and we were able to get our food in a decent amount of time even though it was pretty crowded around dinner time. Definitely can get a little noisy with people coming in and out but still a good spot to dine in at. Food tasted great, recommend this spot if you're passing by. read more
