The American cheese accented it nicely. It was on a soft tasty hero roll. I ordered the steak and cheese Philly which was packed with double steak. It's how the sandwich comes without having to order additional meat on it. Next time I'll try another option like bacon and mushrooms or something. Small portions, high prices, terrible presentation and rude service seem to be the business model here. Tables were dirty, so we decided to place a to-go order instead because eating in my car would be more sanitary. Foil wrapped subs were sloppy and mushy. The paper foil wrapping was disintegrating from the moisture and was difficult to remove from sandwiches without losing most of cheese topping. If you like wet sandwich bread then this is the place for you. It is astonishing how small the sides were and ​the "philly" sandwiches were super short considering the eelevated pricing. This place wouldnt last a week in Philadephia, almost a crime they label these sandwiches as such. My buddies and I went there yesterday We all ordered different items..I ordered the classic philly with onions and cheddar..it was absolutely AWFUL..THE ROLL WAS COLD AND STALE AND CUT ALL THE WAY THREW. Pepper Jacks is consistent. I was first introduced to the food years and years ago at a housewarming party and fell in love. I can't eat it too often because it's pretty rich but man is it tasty. My most recent experience was the avocado fries and they were tasty. They had a little kick in the breading and that made them even better. In the years I've been in Albany, I've never heard of this place! We had a late night snack and tried Pepper Jack for to go options. I don't think this review is going to be all representative since I've only ordered one thing at one time point, but hopefully further visits will add to this review! Chicken burrito: This is had rice and cheese and chicken in it. I asked for no beans. It was a decent burrito, but I felt like there wasn't much flavor and pow from the cheese. I was expecting some melted cheese to blend the flavors of the chicken and rice, but it was lukewarm and kind of hardened. The chicken was decent, but it was incredibly flavorful or seasoned. The portion was very generous, though, and I definitely felt like I had a food baby afterwards!! The food here is amazing! I traveled 500 miles back home to the Albany area for the first time in years and I had to stop here for a Chicken Burrito. The location is easy to get to and very centrally located. The staff was great with my wife's food allergies (celiac) and they set her mind at ease. I was so excited looking over the menu and found a falafel wrap! there was a group of six and we all ordered. Everybody else went for the Philly steak sandwiches. with the sides, Bill came out to $99.96. Picked up the food, got home. Sometimes the secret to enjoying a restaurant with a large menu is going with someone who loves the place and knows all of its strengths and weaknesses. I had been to Pepper Jack's in the past for an egg and cheese sandwich and left entirely unimpressed. The bar for egg and cheese on a hard roll in this region is higher than one might expect, and without toasting or grilling the roll, this one failed to make the grade. But this latest visit I went with my friend who was able to guide me through the menu. Her highest recommendation was for the Buffalo chicken wrap. And while I love virtually everything "Buffalo chicken", I just can't get behind wraps. I can't. So that's when our little dance began. Me: "What about the Buffalo chicken cheesesteak?" Her: "Nope. It's a different kind of chicken." Her: "The Buffalo chicken salad is pretty good." Me: "I'm not in the mood for a salad, how about the burgers" Her: "The burger's aren't that special, but the cheesesteaks are great." Me: "I can't do cheese sauce." Her: "My dad always gets the Deluxe Philly." Me: "Done." Really, what I probably wanted most of all was a Buffalo chicken quesadilla if they used the crispy chicken strips instead of the grilled chicken, but I wanted to taste their food and judge it on its own merits without any substitutions. The Deluxe Philly is a winning combinations of chopped steak, onions, mushrooms, bacon and swiss cheese. How can you lose? The answer is you can't. It's one tasty sandwich. But is it a great cheesesteak? Can it even live up to the claim on the menu that it's an authentic Philly cheesesteak? I'm going to say no on both counts. This is four years of living in Philadelphia during my cheesesteak heavy college years talking. Mostly, the problem is in the bun. But I'm not here to pick nits. The sandwich is good. And I'm glad to know something decent to order should I ever end up back here. Although next time I may just try my hand at a special order to get the quesadilla of my dreams. Oh, and if you do get fries, get the cajun fries. Not because they are so great, but they are decidedly better than the rather bland standard issue fries. A buddy of mine just told me he was moving to Albany and I found myself going down memory lane thinking about restaurants I used to frequent when I was at SUNY. Sadly, many of them were closed, but I was happy to see PJacks still around. I also surprised to see some of the negative reviews. Regardless, I really enjoyed Pepperjack's for a meal - anything from a wrap, to a cheesesteak to a salad and I even used to come to Pjacks in the evening, order food, do some homework and kick it for awhile. The staff would always let me stay as they began closing/cleaning up so, I could keep working and I'd often stick around long enough to order 2 meals - which were always delicious. This was a pit stop on my home to NYC with a group of friends. It's a pretty decent place, especially in a college town. It was raining and they were cranking up the A/C when we stumbled in. It was 4PM, so I didn't expect many people there, which there weren't. The ladies at the cashier were super nice and come out with our orders when we sat down. The food was good. It was awhile ago, so I don't quite remember the taste. I got the aztec chicken salad. I was intrigued by BBQ sauce on a salad. It was delicious. There wasn't a lot of BBQ which is good cause it would be too overpowering. There was a lot of cheese to everything else ratio. I kind of wished for more lettuce. As other reviewers have stated, Pepper Jacks has something to offer to everyone. Obviously when you have such a large menu, it's hard to really make everything outstanding, but I've always enjoyed what I've ordered. Most recently I ordered the Bacon and Ranch chicken sandwich, which was rather tasty, but extremely messy. I had to pretty much inhale it and not put it down so that it didn't fall apart. The chicken was juicy, and flavorful though. My sandwich came with an order of their seasoned chips, but I later decided I wanted to try the cajun fries as well, both of which were decent, nothing overly impressive about them. Service was fast and extremely friendly, and I had a filling lunch for about $10, so not too shabby. I'll definitely be back in the future to sample some of their other offerings during a quick lunch during the workday. read more
