Not impressed at all. For better food at a cheaper price just got to chipotle!!! You won't be disappointed. We ordered a burrito bowl and jerk chicken tacos over the phone for pick up. When we got there they made a burrito instead of a burrito bowl. We didn't want to complain so we took the order as is hoping it would be just as good. The jerk chicken tacos barely had any chicken on them and the guacamole in the burrito tasted funky. We ended up just scraping the rice, chicken and beans from the burrito into a bowl ourselves and throwing the rest out. For the price we paid the food we got was definitely not worth it. You can eat in an actual restaurant and order better tasting meals for the same price. Location is also sketchy. read more

I've loved Pepper Jack's since I went to grad school on the downtown SUNY campus, and I went there regularly even when I wasn't attending classes down the street. I liked the more urban feel of the old location: now it's between a closed jewelry store and a funeral home. The new place is so much more spacious and actually has parking. A revelation! My favorite item, a grilled cheese with pepper jack cheese, is on the menu no more: every time I order a grilled cheese, it comes with American cheese-like substance. If you don't know where to get a delicious Philly-style cheesesteak or other great sandwich in Albany, you don't know (Pepper) Jack('s). I first visited Pepper Jack's at its location on Western and Quail, but they've brought all of their delicious sandwiches, plus a larger eating area to their location on North Allen. As you walk in, there is a 25 foot long wall listing a variety of their sandwiches, but apparently the wall is not long enough for everything that can put between two pieces of bread (or roll) because there are a couple of categories available only by looking at the paper menus near the counter. In one recent visit, I got the deluxe Philly, which complements the thin-sliced sirloin with bacon, onions, mushrooms, and Swiss cheese. When the sandwich arrived, I thought it looked a bit small, until I picked it up and began to eat it, at which point I was pleasantly surprised with the abundance of meat and toppings. J, my partner in crime, life, and sandwiches, got the Double A panini, a Cuban-style sandwich with pretty good pulled pork, ham, swiss, and pickle chips. It's a really great combination of flavors and textures and I recommend it highly. I ordered it for myself for delivery and was quite happy with it, except that, unlike the time we ordered it for eat-in, it did not come with their delicious kettle chips. The chips are quite good, so if you're able to stick around and eat, be sure to do so. For a couple dollars more, you can also add a side like fries or salad and a drink to your sandwich. Also, they offer a number of salads and burrito bowls, so if you're not feeling up to having a meal endorsed by Thomas Hallowell, the Earl of Sandwich, fret not. Finally, it's worth pointing out that in addition to the bottled drinks behind the registers, they also have a soda fountain right around the corner, in case you're eating in and would like to get your fill of fizzy sugar water. read more

I really like Pepper Jack's, everything is well made and fresh. I have to say I am not a fan of the new location and have not gone as much as I used to since they moved, but the food is still as good. I have tried many different things on their menu and it has always been good. They have a lot of different options from wraps to paninis to salads to burritos. There is definitely something for everybody here. I usually stick with their wraps or a panini. My favorites are the chicken salad wrap as well as the cajun chicken wrap. For a panini I suggest the pesto chicken. You can also make your option a combo for something like $2 more which includes a side such as potato salad or fries and a drink. This is the place to go when you're looking for something quick for lunch and don't want crap food. Prices are reasonable, perhaps a little on the high end for what it is, but fair. Sometimes the people working here can be not so friendly, but that's ok. They have never messed up my order and it always comes out in a timely manner, so nothing to complain about! read more

For some reason people get the impression that because a restaurant may get a good amount of traffic from college students that somehow the food is then sub-par, or "not real cooking". What does that even mean? That's not fair. Pepper Jack's food is very flavorful and quite reasonably priced. Great paninis (especially the southwestern panini), Philli cheesesteaks, tuna melt, cajun fries, homemade chili, the list goes on. The food is delicious at a great price. The menu is huge, but the food is always fresh. That's pretty impressive - and often overlooked. The staff is always friendly and fast. Comfortable booths or tables - plenty of seating. Always a clean and pleasant environment. They do a reward card where if you order a certain number of menu items you get one free. It's pretty good bar food to order for delivery at work or college campus. The flavors appeal more to the 35 and under crowd imo. I would never make this a dinner destination in any sense, or even a lunch destination with friends or coworkers. Some of the dishes are better than Mild Wally's or Bello Pranzo and some are worse. Quality sometimes varies, but usually good. Realize it's BAR FOOD, not real cooking. Like most of these places students or ex-cons are making the food. Before I'll wax nostalgic, let me recommend the Philly Cheese Steaks for good hangover grease. If you're in a healthier mood, pick up the hummus and taboule wrap. This place has changed a lot since it first opened back around 2000. It's a victim of its own success, I guess. I remember the days when it had two names, "Pepper Jack's" and "The Morning Scramble." Nobody was quite sure about this new place that had taken over the location of Mother Earth's Cafe (yes, my band played there too), but Albany High's "philosophy club" were regulars, and many an art class was skipped here (check the 2003 Albany High School yearbook for a great picture of us behind the counter back when they first opened). In the early days this was just a cool breakfast and lunch dive where slackers hung around bitching about how, because of Mother Earth's, nobody in this storefront could ever have live music again. Now it's adapted to the gentrification, and it has turned into a regular spot for UAlbany and St. Rose folks, as well as a favorite of the Pine Hills cops. But there are still spelling mistakes in the menu, and there's something about the corner of Quail and Western that can never be gentrified, at least not while Last Vestige and Mild Wally's are still around. I would have given it five stars a couple of years ago. They lost big points for not carrying the 99 cent Arizona Teas anymore. New location is so much better!!! There was nowhere to park when it was on Western...now they have parking in front and in back. They have the best philly cheese steaks in the area by far. The steak burritos are really good too. Only thing I have ever had there that I wasnt too crazy about was the chicken ceasar wrap...besides that I have never had anything bad here. Oh how I miss you dearly my dearest Pepper Jack's. I don't know how I haven't reviewed you sooner! This place is such a great delivery and as I like to call it pop n squat dining location. You can tell it's one of the best options for lunch in town or a late night bite to eat when all of the Albany PD goes there to grab a bite to eat. The vegetarian burger is my absolute favorite in all of the Capital Region. I hold everything they put on it normally and add my own favorites (this is why this place is so great, they aim to please!): cheddar cheese, dill pickles, onions & russian dressing. The boyfriend and his best friend crave their philly cheese steaks. I stopped in here recently for a quick bite with my girlfriend. I ordered a steak burrito, she had a turkey panini. She had curly fries on the side. Both were alright, but nothing too special. My burrito was made well, and rolled tight. I wish there were pieces of steak, not the thin slices used for the Philly cheese steak. Also, there wasn't salsa, they charged extra for it. Nickle and dime. My girlfriend panini was good, but she said it suffered from the "Sysco effect". We both worked at a summer camp, where some of the food was ordered from Sysco. Lots of options to choose from which is great if you're with a big group of people who all want something different. I typically go for the buffalo chicken wrap which is a a good size and has a lot of chicken in it. The prices are a bit more expensive for a "fast food" place but I guess it's okay since I'm not eating it every day. I never actually been here, I always do delivery via the Yelp app, it generally takes about 40-50 minutes for delivery (I live a little ways from them), and the food arrives warm. I have never had a bad experience at Pepper Jacks until today! Ordered food over the phone and the person that answered was annoyed that I wanted my order split! I mean it was for two different people as we wanted our each reward points. So I get there to pick up the food and it mysteriously disappeared! It was ready for pick up then it wasn't there. So that tells me that that the Heffer with those long ugly unprofessional eye lashes gave my food away on purpose. As her guilty face showed it all!! Both of my co workers noticed! Food arrived cold. They overcharged my card. I'm guessing someone added a tip in for themselves. I called in the order and planned on tipping in cash. The person on the phone told me my total was $34 and my card was charged $41.89. I called to see why and they said they had "no clue". Also, it looked like the delivery guy decided to help himself to my Cajun fries; either that or they give really small portions. It looked as if I received someone's left overs. Mediocre food. My family has been ordering here for over 5 years but tonight they outright refused to deliver our order because we were like 60 cents away from the minimum delivery total! This shows how they really care about their good customers! My family is done ordering from here and it will not be a choice for lunch at my employer anymore! Poor business decision over 60 cents! Ray and I have been going here since we first met (we've been together 8 years). I remember the first location was a "Mother Earth's Cafe." Once Pepper Jack's, this became one of our favorites. I am now veg. but back then my fav was the Cajun Chicken wrap with bacon and I'd add bleu cheese and it was the best thing I had ever tasted. They use awesome, deep-green romaine lettuce, not just iceberg, and juicy tomatoes on their sandwhiches and see that now they have panini. Now that I don't eat meat or even cheese most of the time, one of my favorites is the Rice and beans (I skip the cheese) and then I get Cajun Curly fries and break them up with it and it fills me up and leaves me with a snack for later for under $6. Ray likes the turkey/stuffing/cranberry wrap and most of the time that's what I could bet on when we're walking in the door. The last time I was there I got the Falafel gyro and now I might have even ANOTHER favorite, but can ALWAYS guarantee that whatever I order will have Cajun Curly fries on the side!!! I used to go here all the time when I went to school in Albany. I was always a fan of all their food, especially the cheese steaks. They have great service with reasonable prices. They cater to allot of college students and have great hours. When I used to attend school in Albany I had an apartment right around the corner, my roommates and I would always go there before and after a good night of drinks. I only just started going here but it's pretty good! Everything is under $10.00. The chicken quesadilla with bacon and bacon cheeseburger are really good. The burger comes with homemade potato chips which are amazing! If you order chips and guacamole you get $ .75-1.50 of guac and $ .25 cents of regular corn chips for $4.00. Just buy a bag of chips at the store then get one or two sides of guac. The cheese steaks are small but only $7-8. Bbq bacon cheese steak wasn't bad. The turkey stuffing wrap was good but literally only has what it says. Food is ready quickly and so far accurately. They only have on street parking. read more
