Pretty average cheesesteak and fries. I got a cheesesteak with fried onions and a side of fries. Meat and cheese were pretty typical and the roll was dry. Fries tasted like they were frozen and then heated up, but it was fine. It was easy to call and place an order and staff was nice. I would recommend doing take out, the inside didn't look super nice/clean and there was nobody in there eating. There was a lot of takeout orders though. i haven't been to the peppermill in years but decided to drive over there this past week and get their cheesesteak stomboli. i always remembered it as one of the best i've ever had. So, i ordered that and small pepperoni pizza to go. Everything was just delicious! It's not exactly around the corner from where i live but it's worth the drive over there. Everything from the crust, the steak and even the small pizza i can't even think of a place near me where i can get that. Definitely will go back soon and may try some additional menu items the next time. read more

I write this review, not as jab at The Peppermill but rather as a wake-up call for them to address perceived cleanliness and safety issues - to the point where my wife and I were shocked by what we witnessed, especially since this mainstay had always been a frequent stop for us through the decades. Pulling in on a recent Friday evening around 8PM, we were stunned by how dark and unwelcoming the parking lot is, the only illumination coming from the lights from cars zipping between Rt. 352 and the Wawa as a cut through. Our fond memories had always included the unmistakable flavor of that delicious, chopped steak sandwich. For old times-sake, we ordered one to split; the mostly tender meat was how we remembered, with the roll being pliant with a nice outer crisp. The French fries came out hot, but we couldn't help but to notice a veritable fish stick flavor to them - very disappointing. But what killed the experience for us, was the lack of any decor whatsoever other than the dirty carpeting, tables devoid of napkins, condiment containers, and a greasy feel to everything we touched. The place could use some background music, too. (The clack-clack of spatulas on grill top the only constant noise to be heard.) I won't go into the condition of the restrooms...Like so many others who spend good money to frequently dine out, this was without a doubt the most saddening food experience we've had in a long time. A simple shake-up/re-do and some efforts in cleaning would go a long way. On another note, the young staff was friendly enough, with one gentleman (dark hair) engaging us, in friendly fashion several times throughout. We'll give it some time before returning, keeping fingers crossed they spruce up the old place while (PLEASE) addressing the lack of lighting in the lot. read more

I made a carryout order for one cheesesteak, one chicken cheesesteak and french fries. The cheesesteaks were very large and tull of meat, and the fries were perfect. Everything we had was amazing! It was prepared as ordered, carefully packaged and the staff was very friendly. I have never dined inside, but I will definitely order from here again and eat inside. Horrible experience here. The workers were so young and did not care at all, and so rude. We ordered a sandwich, fries, and wings. First we realized they forgot to give us our sandwich, then we realize they didn't give us any of our sauces. They even gave us bare wings with no sauce on them. So they gave us a container of the sauce. We got home and the wings aren't even edible and gave us blue cheese and we asked for ranch. I called to complain and they told me they would deliver new ones, we waited over an hour after I told them multiple times I'm expecting company. I talked to the kid on the phone and he basically laughed and said "yeah i dont know you might be up next". Horrible service, the place is disgusting. read more

Husband and I stopped in for lunch today. He has restricted dietary needs. They fixed his steak sandwich exactly as was asked. My Cajun chicken sandwich was delicious and spicy enough but not too much to distort the taste of chicken and toppings. Coffee was fresh and hot. Very enjoyable meal and excellent service. Terrible! Went there today at 11:15. There was nobody in there when we got there. Took 10 minutes to get drinks. We ordered fries. After about 20 more minutes the waitress came to take our lunch order. We ordered four cheesesteaks. After another 30 minutes, two orders of fries came out. I had to leave to get back to work after an hour and 20 minutes, with no other food being delivered. Thankfully, my friends brought me my food. However, the order was completely wrong. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak with fried onions, mushrooms, extra cheese. I received a cheesesteak with fried onions and mushrooms, NO CHEESE!!! Atrocious!!! $90 bill for 4 people it took one hour and 50 minutes to get four sandwiches. They comped nothing. Terrible, terrible, terrible! read more

Paid $9.45 for a piece of bread and maybe 20 cents worth of dry roast beef tasting meat on the bun. I have had better cheesesteaks from a cafeteria. The meat was cold and what little amount of cheese they added to the sandwich was unmelted. This is an update I haven't been here in a long time. So during Covid I decided to go pick up some food there were four employees inside and nobody else. I paid for my order and I went to my car and waited for them to bring it to me. Of course when I got home half of my food was missing. How can you screw that up . When they were not even busy. I can't understand all the negative reviews. I phoned in an order of five sandwiches this morning, 7/10/21. The guy who took the order was courteous. I picked up the order at the time designated and they were freshly made and on time. The order was for two hoagies, one chicken salad, one chicken parm and one tuna. I have recommended the Peppermill cheesesteaks many times over the years. I've been twice in the last 3 months and will probably never go back. The place is FILTHY and should be closed down for a good wash. Indoor seating has been closed both Friday and Sunday nights I was there. Waiting outside for our order allowed us to see how the outside was also in disrepair. To boot the person at the counter was ridiculously rude while taking the order. I've been eating at the Pepper Mill off and on since 1991, but never again. We stopped on today, Saturday, and were treated by the nastiest little older woman, who said she's doing everything, because they cant find anyone to work. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, post pandemic, but that place should just close the doors, and call it a day. I watched her chase people out because they weren't wearing a mask, yet her mask was on her chin the whole time we were there, and she's the one handling food. The food used to be good, but the cheesesteak i got, was chopped so fine, it was the consistency of dog food, and the onions i asked for on the steak, were in a big wad in the middle of the sandwich. It was absolutely disgusting, and I couldn't even eat it. The Welder Family should be ashamed of themselves for keeping that dump open, and serving that slop to the public. read more

A bit of a dive, but if you can look past the rough exterior Pepper Mill has one of the better cheesesteaks in the suburbs. You can get the regular or splurge a little on price to upgrade the quality of your meat. Personally, I grew up with the cheaper option and I still think it's good. I go here once a week or so, and loathe having to deal with the SUPER RUDE people who work the counter. They speak SO quickly on the phone they're not understandable, and their tone is definitely letting you know that you're keeping them from more important things, like staring at their phones or opioid addiction. They NEVER say thank you either, in person or on the phone. The only reason I go is that the food is so good. Just ordered a pizza and cheesesteak and a lump of cheese showed up along with a roll and few pieces of meat. The pizza wasn't cut properly and was over cheesed and under sauced. I've been a few times over the years. 'Greasy spoon' is a pretty apt description emphasizing 'greasy' because at times this place isn't nearly as clean as it should be including dirty tables and floors. As for the food, I would stick to a cheesesteak/chicken cheesesteak. Tasty and good value for the price. I would never finish a large and instead take the other half home for another meal. Avoid the pizza. Yeah it is better than a chain like Domino's or Paja John's but there are plenty of other local places that make a better pie and/or have better ingredients. Service is 'hit or miss' and it can really lag when it does get crowded during lunch/dinner rush. I would generally advise eating here if you are local though and just place a takeout order instead especially if you are coming home from work. read more

Poor customer service. They've messed up my simple orders the last 2 times. When I called about receiving the wrong order, their first response was 'no refunds, we'll give you a store credit'. You can tell they are used to complaints, and jaded about it (ie. they don't care). When I asked to speak with the manager, I was informed he was out making deliveries for the next 5 hours, but I could call back after that. First of all, how is the manager making deliveries, and how is the manager doing it for 5 hours straight. I would think the manager would have to return to the diner to get food to deliver... I asked if the manager could just call me when he returns, but apparently that's against their policy... I won't be returning. Put simply, Pepper Mill makes some of the best cheesesteaks outside of Philly. Nearly every time I'm the area, I stop at Pepper Mill, a small locally owned hoagie place. They are famous for their cheesesteaks -- and rightly so. The steak is finely chopped, and the melted cheese holds the steak together like delicious glue. It's how a cheesesteak should be. The taste is enhanced by the optional toppings - I recommend onions, mushrooms, and sweet peppers (the latter is particularly delicious). The chicken cheese steak is just as good. They also serve specialty cheesesteaks, such as buffalo chicken and pizza steak. My only complaint is that the bread was a little soggy in my takeout order, but that didn't take away from the sandwich. The French Fries are also delicious. Thick cut fries that you can get with Old Bay seasoning or Cajun. The milkshakes, I hear, are good as well. Also very affordable - a large hoagie will run you $8-10. Overall, if you're in the area you can't go wrong with Pepper Mill. read more

Absolutely delicious pizza steak. Normally I hate chopped steak but this made-to-order sandwich was spectacular. Perfect mixture of provolone cheese and fried onions in a tasty roll. It's no wonder it has the reputation of being the best in Chester County - it delivers on taste. Sat at the counter and ate. Nice people working there. The place has been here 35 years and it's comfy and clean. They certainly knock the cheese steak out of the park. Only reason I didn't go 5 stars is there's no wifi. Come on man. Called Pepper Mill tonight at 6:00, they asked me pickup or delivery, I placed my order. They asked me how much I want to tip the driver, I said 20%. After an hour and a half of waiting for my delivery I called back. The young lady that answered and checked on my order stated that it was entered as a pick up. I asked about my 20% delivery charge for the driver. She didn't have an answer. I asked if my food had been sitting for an hour and she said probably but we are going to remake your food and get it right out, I said, fantastic. I waited another hour, nothing. Whenever I'm in the area for any extended period of time, I demand we go eat at the Pepper Mill. My family has been eating here for probably 10+ years. Their pizzas and calzones are tasty, but I also love their hamburgers, which I usually get. My sister loves their chicken cheesesteak ($7.05 small, $8.25 large), and my mom loves their regular cheesesteak ($6.95 small, $7.95 large). Their iced teas ($1.50) come in huge, refillable paper cups. No matter what, we always get an order of fries to share ($3.25). Their fries are some of the best fries I've ever had. The waitresses are always friendly, the food is fast, and the place is a bit run-down, but it just adds to the charm. The bathroom is usually 50-50 on being clean. A note: it's cash only, and you pay at the counter when you're done your meal (tell them your table number, which is on the wall next to your table). read more

I scanned the dining room, which is pretty much exactly the same as when I was a kid, with a lunch clientele that looked heavy on senior citizens.
