The olive tasting is so easy they just hand you a cup of bread and they have these little cups and it's not like you have to ask to taste each one it's all self-serve and I get it it could be a risk for a business to lose a lot of product that way but it really made it and enjoyable experience for me so I appreciated that. If you don't know the history, Monterey's cannery row was famous in its heyday--from the mid-1800s to just after WWII when Europe resumed canning their own stuff again. After that, cannery row just declined until the last cannery closed. Nowadays, cannery row is mostly known for tacky tourist shops and overpriced restaurants and, of course, the beautiful aquarium, which incorporates some of the original cannery property. Fast forward to today and you find that there are very few companies doing canning (chicken of the sea) producing corporate, industrial, mass-produced semblances of food-like substances. Daren, the owner of this great new little company, brings back the charm of a lost era with a great idea with a great logo. In full disclosure, I can't vouch for the taste of the sardines since, as stated above, I don't like sardines. But I've been told that each sardine, which is wild caught in the Pacific, is peeled and deboned and prepared to turn into a contemporary gourmet food. This can of sardines is great even if it's just bought as nostalgia for Steinbeck. And who doesn't want to support local, new businesses!

We waited and waited while people after us were seated and the live queue stayed at 2 until the staff asked us if we're checked in. They said, there is a sign but we didn't see a sign. Oh well, us locals need to come here more often I guess... The food was delicious & plentiful as always so know complaints here. I absolutely love their wheat germ pancakes. We will definitely keep coming back.

I cleaned and prepared them on Sunday, and they were tender and delicious. Terrific experience!
