To be perfectly objective with this review. I hope I will succeed. My wife and I came to the Pepper Tree Cafe on a Saturday morning about 11:45. We were greeted courteously and seated at a comfortable booth. Somebody came and brought us water right away and we looked at the menu. The waitress came in a few minutes to take our order. She was very sweet and friendly and we liked her. My wife ordered the fettuccine alfredo and a cup of tortilla soup. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy with a salad. The waitress brought the soup and the salad very quickly. Both were very good. In fact my wife said that it was as good tortilla soup as she had ever had. The restaurant was very busy but we received our entrees probably in less than 15 minutes. That was fine. My wife's fettuccine alfredo was not very creamy and had a slightly odd taste to it. She ate quite a bit of it but she didn't think it was particularly good. My chicken fried steak was not good at all. It's the gravy that makes or breaks this meal, and the gravy tasted like somebody had just taken some flour and water and mixed it together without any spices. It was very bland. Also I thought that the meat quality was not particularly good. I did finish eating the steak, but not the potatoes. We like the ambience of old fashioned coffee shops so it was pleasant enough to sit in there. And we liked all the people that worked there that we dealt with. But the entrees just weren't very good, unfortunately. We were very disappointed. We had gone to this restaurant many years ago and the food was excellent. So I don't know what has happened over the years. I hope they can make some improvements. read more

Finally had a chance to make it here after seeing it on my drive around town. Super adorable diner with an old school feel that just hits differently. Honestly could put some snow outside and you would feel like you're in a mountain town (the fireplace makes it even better). As for food, do not judge me because breakfast for me is best served as basic as possible. I ordered the special #1 with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. What a deal for this plate and honestly came out perfect. Eggs over easy cooked wonderfully and ready to crack the yolk all over the hash browns. Came here with a friend for a quick bite , I was disappointed with my half Turkey club sandwich, it was a BORING PLAIN sandwich, just a piece of lettuce w Turkey. Do not get the half Turkey club, unless ur fine with it being a boring plain sub. My side salad as good. Honestly I didn't think diners like this still existed but I'm thrilled that they do! A lot of diners have a hipster vibe and charge $15+ for a breakfast burrito. Pepper tree is nothing like that. The menu is extensive and affordable. They have a good balance of breakfast and lunch. They also have a great kids menu with options besides the standard grilled cheese and chicken fingers. Note: the kids entrees are huge portions. The coffee is pretty strong and tasty and our awesome server (Jessica) kept the refills coming. My first time here and I really enjoyed this place! Came on a rainy cold morning and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they had a nice, big warm fireplace on at one end of the dining area. It made this place feel so comfortable and inviting. Adding to that nice warmth was the staff. They were all so welcoming with pleasant attitudes and smiles. On top of that, was their menu. The food at Peppertree is always good and tons of it. They're always busy with people coming and going which is because they have a great restaurant and service. The waitresses remember you and always say hi even if you're not at their table. Have been living in the area for almost 3 years and decided to finally give this place a try. Came in on Saturday around noon. The hostess that greeted us was not very warm/friendly but sat us down right away and took our drink orders which she brought right away. We did have to wait for about 15 minutes for our server to even acknowledge us and take our food order. I mean, she seemed nice but was a bit ditzy and was NEVER around. The food was very good with great portions and came out rather quick! We ordered the avocado Benedict and chicken fried steak. Going back to our server NEVER being in sight. We waited for coffee refills and we were looking for her for about 20 minutes to try and get our check. Again, she was nice but very scattered brained. This is our regular Sunday breakfast spot. We're a big group (8-12 people). Our service has always been great! We came here for the nostalgia, even though last time we had definitely noticed the food quality lowered and the cleanliness is questionable. unfortunately today we were asked to leave immediately after finishing our food because a large party needed our table. We love this place for breakfast! We found a coupon in a mailer and decided to try a new spot in our new city. There's plenty of parking and on a Sunday around 10am , they can get a little busy . We've able to put our name on a waitlist by calling in and arriving about 10 mins later. Inside the dining room is bright and the tables are clean. Out of 3 times, twice we had Jessica as our server and she's fantastic. Shes an amazing server and not to mention very upbeat and happy which is wonderful to see in the service industry these days. But every other time we've gone , we've received nothing but excellent service from the host , to the servers and the cooks! Our food arrived promptly , the portions were large and our food was delicious. I love their skillets and always have leftovers. Went on a rainy Sunday. We were quoted a 15 minute wait and we were seated accordingly. Great service, even if it was busy. Was a bit rainy and crowded but that was to be expected. Not a lot of room for my stroller so I took it back to the car. Food was great! I recommend the regular breakfast and Brian Potato's, even if I don't care for onions. As we walked in it was hard to believe we were in Los Angeles county . It was more like an family owned restaurant in Idaho. Great classic American food best waitresses ever and ok food. Interior: was kept original and gives you a farm land cafe restaurant with original bar stool and boots. Also, a fake tree inside restaurant gives it a great cozy feeling. Staff : were outstanding ready to serve in any second. Restrooms : were remolded and modern not a match to rest of the building but it was so clean that you wouldn't mind.
