i decided to try a different pizza place in the area, so I ordered a sausage pizza from Peppino's. Reviews were mostly excellent. My pizza was ready when I ordered it. After going to my car I looked at the pizza and saw there was only a single small slice of sausage on each pizza slice. i went back in, thinking that this was just a mistake, and that it would be rectified. The two young girls working that night looked at me like I was out of my mind when I asked if it was typical to only put a single piece of sausage on each slice of a sausage pizza. I don't routinely leave reviews, but this place absolutely deserves one. The food is so delicious and amazing. Their tomato pie (we get the square thin and crispy, and while it is definitely not a thick crust, it's not paper-thin, either) is so addicting. The sauce is super light yet sweet and tangy - it's not heavy and oily, like some other tomato pies. But the true superstars in our opinion are the SANDWICHES. Oh my God, the sandwiches. It's like you're in the Italian Market. Their bread has sesame seeds, and is firm enough to hold everything together, without getting soggy whatsoever. The eggplant parm is the best I've ever had, and the buffalo chicken cutlet sandwich is NOT to be missed!! Hot sandwiches for delivery often end up wet and messy and soggy and not really that great, but not these. They don't over-sauce them - they're done perfectly. Their Italian sandwiches are also really good - love the sharp provolone. As a plus, they have STOCK'S pound cake - sooo much more convenient than driving to Port Richmond and waiting in line forever. This place has the best hoagies and sandwiches in the area! The original Italian is one of the top two hoagies I have ever had (along with White House Subs Atlantic City NJ). I have eaten dozens of hoagies in Philly area so this is quite a compliment. My wife and I loved the chicken parm and chicken caprese. Top notch! Obviously, in these tragic days of required isolation, determining the nature of the restaurant service other than takeout is not possible. Fortunately, when strained to its most important item, the food, take out tells us exactly how good the restaurant is. We only had one item, the Grandmother's Pizza Pie. Tomato Pies (aka pizza) were ok, the traditional with cheese on the bottom and the white broccoli were both better than the grandma pizza which was surprisingly salty and not great. The sandwiches were very good, we had an Italian beef and an Italian pork. However the Italian pork was super spicy and I didn't expect that or see it anywhere in the description. Finally, price was fair for what you get. 3 pizzas and 2 sandwiches for $83 feels expensive to me, but so does everywhere. So glad I found this place! Discovered it about a month ago and have been there 5-6 times already. Consistent, high-quality food every time. Unique menu compared to the other pizza shops in the area. Owners and staff are all nice and friendly/welcoming. Planning to try more menu items, but these have been my favorites thus far. - Old Fashion Cheese on the Bottom Pie Square - crisp and light to eat, and sauce has great flavor. While I consider myself a pizza connoisseur, I rarely leave reviews but plan to going forward as I've been inspired for the first time in a while. I've visited pizzerias all over Pennsylvania and NJ searching for the perfect slice. Someone raved about Peppino's on FB, which I somehow didn't know was only about 15 minutes away from me. I immediately planned to check it out. My first test is usually a classic slice. It didn't disappoint. The sauce is amazingly fresh and flavorful. The choice of tomatoes must be what makes it standout. It's one of the best slices I've had since moving to PA 14 years ago. I returned with my family a few days later for lunch as we needed to be out of our home for a few hours. We had the tomato pie with cheese on the bottom which truly allows you to appreciate the wonderful freshness of the sauce. The other great part is that the owners were so very accommodating and friendly. We rolled in with my 2 girls and son who has special needs. They could not have been nicer, which always adds to the experience. I give Peppino's 7.5 slices out of 8. Looking forward to returning! read more

A friend suggested this pizza so we tried the Old Fashion Square Tomato pie. It was spot on for traditional tomato pies-reminded me of pizza I grew up on as a kid. The sauce had a wonderful rich flavor, topped with just the right amount of Locatelli cheese, with a thin crust which was light, yet firm enough to hold the sauce (we added extra sauce and mushrooms), and the crust was not mushy at all and held the toppings well...no droopy cuts. When I was kid growing up in Philly we used to get Tomato Pie from a place called Scalea's. It was my favorite that we used to bring to all family parties. This reminds me of that!
