Used to love this place for its authentic Italian cuisine. And was a big fan. But time before last had been extremely disappointing when the waitress said there was no longer fresh calamari served because they had changed suppliers. Which I thought was crazy for a high-end Italian restaurant. Then this last time was worse. The veal chop came out with a really strong "off" odor. My date and I both know cooking and this wasn't even close. We politely sent it back to the kitchen worried about other customers and were even extremely kind about it to the waitress. Wasn't the waitress's fault. She was extremely nice. She came back to say the chef (apparently a stand-in?) didn't smell anything and there was "nothing they could do about it" in terms of substitution or adjusting on the bill as their "boss was on vacation in Florida." The bill-- two cocktails, two apps, two entrees, tip for nice waitress-- $240. Will never go back. read more

Restaurant is only open 4 nights Wed - Sat and dinner only. No Open Table or other automated reservation method; so you call and leave a message, then they call you later to confirm. Process works fine with no issue Entry is not through the front door, instead you go through the patio on the right side then enter via the side door. Small restaurant, nicely decorated. Acoustics are a bit loud but otherwise a pleasant dining experience. Is it Italian or a steak house? I am still not sure. Mozzarella with marinara is a very tasty and filling appetizer. The special (which I really think is a standard item) is a filet with scallops. It was fantastic and worth the price. Also excellent was the Chicken Marsala. Took half of the latter home. Both entrees recommended. Desserts were very good as well. Although very full still had room for dessert. We took our family to Peppino's for our son's 34th birthday. We bought 2 appetizers , 6 dinners, and 1 glass of wine. The bill at this point was $280.00. A small tiramisu (his favorite) was brought in for him from home and 3 out of 6 people had a slice. We brought in our own plates and silverware. Before we even opened up the cake, the waiter asked if we needed anything. I responded no because I brought everything with me. After we sang happy birthday and had the cake, the waiter brought the bill and stated management told him to tell us that outside desserts are not allowed and we should have ordered off the menu. He said he had to charge us... on bill it stated "$18.00 for 6 cuts"! My husband nicely asked the waiter if this policy was on the menu or website. He said he didn't know about that and continued to say he didn't even know the policy! What irks us too is the management never came out to speak to us and put it on the young waiter to inform us. It clearly is not on menu or website. After all this, the food was somewhat mediocre. We will never go again to support their business and I am spreading the word. Poor business practice. read more

So we just acquired a summer home to spend the hot summers away from Texas and I discovered this nearby this establishment about a month ago. My husband and I were so excited to try this venue out since it's nearby in Fairview but was instantly so disappointed by the treatment from not only the hostess but also the bartender too who took 20 minutes to take our (3) orders. I will Certainly not be bringing my Texas girlfriends here next summer as there are so many much more finer places to explore in the Erie area. I'm a tough critic when it comes to food and I could find absolutely nothing that could be improved. The entire dining experience was spectacular. I don't typically seek out Italian restaurants as I find most dishes bland for my taste and will now be a regular here. Our waitress was attentive but did not interrupt frequently or make us feel pressured to pay and turn over the table quickly. The atmosphere was calm and intimate. I ordered lobster fettuccine and the sauce was even better than they described with a perfect citrus balance which kept it rich without tasting too heavy. The lobster was perfectly cooked and had an abundance of whole, shelled lobster claws throughout. The stuffed banana peppers packed serious heat as promised and the sausage was a delicate texture rather than chewy as I've had at several other places. Bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The arugula and mushroom salad and smoked chicken ravioli also had excellent flavor. Great wine selections as well. This place deserves a Michelin star. It probably wouldn't have survived this long as a business being this far off the beaten path if this weren't true. read more

Tonight a woman named Kellie was our sever she was tremendous as always class act food , and consistent service exceptional. We always leave there with a smile. This is hands down one of the best Italian meals I've had in quite some time. We came here on a Friday night with a reservation - which I would highly recommend as they seem to get a pretty good weekend crowd. Our table wasn't quite ready so we enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar while we waited. The atmosphere is dim and cozy - very old world Italian with an upscale, modern twist. Excellent wine list that won't break the bank. We shared a dozen oysters Rockefeller which were perfectly executed. The lobster bisque was by far the best I've ever had. Everyone enjoyed their meals here. The pesce & carne (scallops & filet) came with a perfect risotto. I enjoyed a traditional sausage bolognese. Portions were generous which justified the slightly higher price point. Unbelievable tiramisu gelato and a chocolate lava cake rounded out our dinner experience and sent us into a food coma. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress Kellie knew the menu inside and out and was so friendly. We even got to share a glass of wine with the owner, Joe Colao. He has certainly set the bar for Italian food in Erie high and deserves all of the success he gets. Do not miss Peppino's. read more

I dined at Peppino's last night with 3 friends, one of whom has celiac. I chose this restaurant because the menu states that they have gluten free pasta. They had at least 10 pasta entrees to choose from. After ordering, the server comes back to our table to announce that they don't have any gluten free pasta. My friend then just ordered a salad and soup. When I voiced my displeasure about this, the server said she would "tell Joe." We never saw Joe nor was any kind of goodwill gesture done to our bill. We won't go back again. Steer clear of this place if you are celiac. read more

The food and atmosphere are both superb. It's in the upper-tier as far as prices go for the Erie area, but the high quality of the food, the intimate atmosphere, the coziness, and the delicious specials make it worth it. If you're on a budget, this will probably only be a "once in a while" kind of restaurant, but make sure to stop at least once if you are in the area. read more

Poor service including the server leaving the table before taking everyone's order and stated she would not ask the kitchen to switch anything out because she would get yelled at again. We walked in to Peppino's ready to spend a great deal on drinks, appitizers, and meals. We called ahead with 4 people, yet when we arrived the general manager/owner told us "even though we don't look busy, we're short staffed and you're not going to get good service". We told him we would still sit at the bar and wait, yet again he repeated "we would not get good service". We expected to at least be sat and offered complimentary drinks while waiting, yet it seemed like the manager adaminttently did not want us there. After feeling uncomfortable and like we were expected to leave, we took our party and walked out. Several of us have worked in the restaurant industry and we all agreed that was the most inappropriate way to handle the matter. We would have offered the guests to sit at the bar with a complimentary drink, and appitizers, as it is better lose money on the meal, than service for life. read more

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday last week. I called in advance for a reservation and thankfully was able to make the reservation on time which was a worry with our busy schedules. The waitress was so amazing and polite the whole time and would come around at perfect times to ask how we were doing and if we needed anything. The menu was the perfect size with a great selection. I was pleased at how fast the food came out. I ordered gnocchi with 3 meatballs and it was absolutely delicious. My girlfriend got the same things and thought it was amazing. We went on a midweek evening so the patronage level was light. Parking was convenient. The atmosphere was excellent. The linens were top end. I had a beer and was offered a glass which I took. But it was unchilled. Why pour a cold bottled beer into a room temperature glass? The food was generally ok to good. The salad was good, perhaps a bit heavy with olives. My tuna was good but the bed of spaghetti was also too heavy with the olives. The real rating killer was the tab! Very expensive for this type of meal, approaching $100 including tip for two with light drinks. I would not recommend Peppino's to friends based on price alone. My rating is based on having eaten at comparable resturants in Erie, outside of Erie including Europe and Asia for service, food quality, atmosphere but at half the cost. read more

Love the dim, romantic lighting. Our waitress was wonderful, very knowledgable and attentive, but not annoying. I ordered one of the featured items: filet, scallops, and asparagus/prosciutto risotto. The scallops were perfection! The risotto was delicious! The steak was medium as I asked for, but charred and bitter on the outside- the worst I've ever ordered. We both added a house salad, which was yummy and generous. As well as a nice red Zinfandel, which complimented our meals well. We were in town visiting for Chirstmas and we met up with friends for dinner here. First rate and attentive service. The food was fabulous. My husband ordered a filet with a pepper, mushroom, chopped clams sauce. It was the best at the table. I had a filet with two giant scallops, my friend had the chicken with shittake mushrooms and my parents had steaks.
