We were visiting Pittsburgh for the first time and this was recommended by a friend as a must go!! The guys behind the counter were friendly and helpful, even gave us a complimentary order of fresh cut fries!! The sandwiches were huge and soo tasty, thin Sliced meat and vinaigrette! We both took half togo. It was quite the experience and I would recommend it for a fast, tasty, large sandwich, either to eat there or to go. Stopped in yesterday to pick-up my takeout order during the Covid pandemic. Glad to see that there were several large to-go orders on the counter which indicated to me that not only are they good, but people are looking for opportunities to support businesses during this particularly hard time. My wife and I walked down to the Allegheny Commons nearby to eat our sandwich on a bench while we social distanced. Sandwich was quite large and easy to share as it was already cut in half. The French bread was fresh and not too hard and the condiments and fillings were fresh and well seasoned. I really liked the grilled onions and was glad that the mayo wasn't too overpowering. The bread was the perfect ratio and texture, the cheese wasn't overwhelming, the steak tender, and the peppers gave it a tiny kick. This is the best steak you'll find in Pitt. I definitely wouldn't put it up there with Max's or Dalessandros in Philly but it's a good sandwich. They are cash only so be prepared or they also have an atm inside. The steak is seasoned well, they throw in a lot of cheese which is absolutely fantastic. They don't dice their onions which I don't find it to be a big deal but some Philadelphians may be a bit picky. Overall, when I visit Pittsburgh, I make it a point to hit Peppi's. You know what it is - obviously some of the best sammiches in town I gotta tell you! I love meet my older brother here for a cold cut or something nice, warm and melted to perfection. Everything made to order. No cold soggy meat under a heat lamp here. I ordered the #7. Massive 12" sandwich. Packed with ground beef, pork sausage, lettuce, onion, tomato, Fried Egg(my fav) and American cheese. If you came here hungry this is the sandwich for you. Very delicious and filled my appetite. The hamburger hero was good but not the best ever. The fries were a bit greasy and not that good. I would order from there again but I would try something else i here they specialize in steak.
