My wife and I are foodies, and we eat out at least twice a week--often more. We enjoy trying different restaurants and don't mind paying for pricey dinners if they're worth it. I usually don't leave reviews unless we've had either a great experience or a very bad one. Peppone falls into the latter--honestly, it was horrible. Where should I start? The place feels extremely outdated. The furniture looks like it's 40 years old--no exaggeration--with old, unattractive fake flowers on each table. The service was mediocre at best. The bathroom was very dirty and outdated, with mismatched tiles, clutter, and a general lack of cleanliness. I don't mind a vintage look or older restaurants--if the food is good. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I ordered chicken piccata, my wife had a Bolognese pasta and an espresso martini, and our friend ordered a martini and linguine. My dish was undercooked, cold, and completely tasteless. My wife's food was also bland and unremarkable, and our friend had the same disappointing experience. The worst part was the price--the bill came to $448. This restaurant should seriously consider closing down. read more

Wow! We were location scouting down the road and walked by this place. Intrigued, we opened the door a crack and peered in. Walking through the door is like going through a magical portal. The interior is imbued with a mix of warm toned woods, red Naugahyde leather, and stained glass pendant lights. The booths are spacious and comfortable. The service was impeccable: warm, courteous, friendly, and professional. The food, though we weren't able to try as many items as we wanted (we were actually not hungry when we peeked in the door) bur EVERYTHING we tasted was so delicious. This restaurant used to be one of my favorites, but unfortunately it has changed for the worse. The prices have basically doubled, yet the quality has noticeably declined. Every piece of fish including salmon starts at around $70, which is hard to justify. The Caesar salad with frozen, rubbery and tasteless shrimp was $65! For those prices, I expect fresh, high-quality ingredients. It's no surprise the restaurant is now nearly empty when it used to be packed. It's disappointing to see a place that once had loyal customers price itself out of reach while serving food that no longer matches the cost. Raising prices is one thing, but when quality goes down at the same time, it's hard to support the business anymore. What a shame. read more

After a beautiful day at The Getty I wanted to spoil my GF to an OG Italian meal. Peptone is not on OpenTable, nor when you call do they require your phone number or a credit card reservation. They just said thanks we'll see you then... call if your plans change. When we arrived I could see why no fuss. It was lovely and filled with loyal longterm patrons. It seems like everyone knew each other. Despite being newbies the entire staff treated us fabulously. It is expensive on first glance but for the impeccable food, wine & service it was on point! Everything we tried was well prepared and delicious. My pasta e fagioli was hearty, sweet and tangy and the crispy prosciutto added a special touch of excellence. My Veal Ossobuco was as it should be... super tender, flavorful and their marinara was sweet & tangy. My GF had a signature dish called Steak Sinatra. Filet Mignon cooked to order then was sliced and sautéed with peppers, onions and mushrooms in a light marinara sauce. She absolutely loved it! As a special treat, mine came with freshly made gnocchi, heavenly delightful. She has 2 glasses of exceptional wine that added to her wonderful experience. At the end it would be a waste not to go all in! Their Tiramisu was super creamy and was "perfect!" It's a wonderful piece of yesteryear, 50 years old! The service and atmosphere were amazing but the food was mediocre at best. The chicken Marsala and chicken parm was nothing to remember and were both $50! For $50, you'd think the dish would feed a small family but the portions were small. $30 /glass for their average red wine. The salad was soggy and very disappointing. The tiramisu was a winner for $15. The bill for 2 people with 2 entrees, a shared salad, 4 glasses of wine, and a dessert was $360 with tip, so prepare yourself! There are much better old-school Italian restaurants if you're going to spend that kind of money. Try Dan Tana's, the portions are massive and every dish is delicious. We absolutely love this local neighborhood gem. It is a classic Italian, extremely high quality delicious and wonderful spot. Whether it's for a date night, friend's outing, or any other occasion, Peppone makes you feel valued and at home. The interior is amazing - the stain glassed chandeliers above every table, along with flowers, makes you feel like you're at home in Italy. I recently went for an anniversary dinner - they treated us with tiramisu, sung to us, and gave us little champagne flutes of port wine. The food is absolutely tremendous. You're served complimentary garlic bread with marinara dipping sauce to start. We started with a fantastic Caesar salad. For our mains, we shared the cannelloni which is a must-get. The flavors are so rich, and the fresh pasta melts in your mouth. The vodka sauce with fusilli and sausage is delicious as well. There is ample parking in a little parking lot right in front, which you pay for during the day. Might be free at night, I'm not positive because we Ubered. The ONLY reason I'm knocking down a star is because of the pricing. I don't want to say that delicious, fresh, homemade pasta is overpriced because I do value the time and effort they put into the dish, but $40-45 per plate of pasta is astronomical. We will continue to come here because of how amazing it is, but have to save it for special occasions because of the price. The ambience , the decor and the layout are historic and reminders of the past . It's truly a cool atmosphere. The food was however outrageously priced for basic portions . I don't care if the spaghetti was homemade by hand (and I don't think it was), that is ridiculously expensive and takes so much advantage of its customers. Never ever ever again. So much fun here last night! I went to view a new property I sold to my lovely client and we decided to go for a walk. One thing lead to another and we decided to grab a glass of wine here. Why not?! Late glass of vino?! The owner was walking around socializing with his guests and he's the sweetest man. Very family owned and loved!! The bartender and staff were so patient and very accommodating. Not sure where to start with the restaurant as I had someone tell me this was one of their favorite restaurants and I had to try it...last night was the night I tried it. We had 7:00 reservations and walked in to a very quiet restaurant, parking was easy, metered parking and the restaurant was very very quiet. We ordered a Tom Collins and a Mojito, we were told that they couldn't make a Mojito because they didn't have the ingredients and the Tom Collins was eh ok. The garlic bread came out and it not only smelled amazing the flavor was wonderful. For appetizers, we ordered buffalo mozzarella and I've never seen it presented in the manner we received it. The cheese was cold and tasted like something we would get at the market, it was served on chopped lettuce with pickles and 2 roasted cherry tomatoes. We also ordered soft-shelled crab (this was an entree portion but we wanted to try it), I can't put my finger on it but it was very mediocre. We split a caesar salad, but again very bland and we didn't barley eat any of it. For my entree, I ordered the special, veal osso buco with gnocchi and we ordered the filet mignon (sliced). Unfortunately, again it was just ok. And then there is the glass of wine we ordered, per the waiter's suggestion, but neither one of us drank it. I am giving this a 2 star because the waiter was very kind and he tried to make it as spectacular as he could. Best chicken parm on the planet! Old school vibe with amazing service and ambience! Don't miss out on this place!

This is a storied celebrity haunt which doesn't really get mentioned as much as some of the other 'Hollywood Animal' spots such as Craigs, Dan Tanas or Polo Lounge. The upside to this place is that it's a throwback ... meaning, it would be 1973 when you walk through the door ... in a good way. Wood paneling, red pleather booths, lots of brass, framed photos and Tiffany-style stained glass lamps. Those who appreciate vintage charm and 'forgotten' decor will appreciate this place ... and I am one of those! The downside is you are paying Polo Lounge prices in a small strip mall next to a gas station in Brentwood. This spot is one of those 'if you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can't afford it' places. Prepare for $60+ per steak, $22 per salad or appetizer, $30+ for a plate of pasta and $40 chicken parm, which includes no pasta side. Dinner for two here is easily $200 - $300. The food is good ... but it's old school style with steamed vegetables served with the entrees and what kind of a place doesn't bread their chicken parm??! I was pretty shocked to get a grilled chicken cutlet covered in sauce and cheese. It was a bit rubbery ... when you bread and fry the cutlet, it's SO much better! I'd never order chicken parm here again ... but all the pastas and steaks are fantastic and done well! The wine list is amazing. They have wines that go back as far as the 1970's. I was able to order one from my birthyear! The prices on the wine aren't terrible, either. Normally, restaurants mark up the wine a lot ... this place seems to mark up the food and sell the wine at cost! Some of the bottles like Opus One, you'll pay a premium on ... but there were a lot of wines that I could buy cheaper here with dinner than at a liquor store. And what a selection! The wine list looks like a book. The only thing that shocked me was that the wine was stored in racks around the restaurant ... which was kept at around 70 degrees. It's not like Bern's in Tampa which has an actual wine cellar. This is a perfect date spot ... the waitstaff is friendly and accommodating and professional. The food is pretty good ... and very hearty portions, so you'll have some to wrap up and take home unless you are a big eater. It's warm and cozy in a way that not a lot of restaurants are. (Ask to sit away from the door as the two tables next to the door are a bit breezy on a chilly night!) It's the type of place you want to come back to ... which would explain why 90% of the diners seem to be regulars. (If you are not a regular, you'll likely be placed in one of the tables in the side corridor which is the path from the front door to the kitchen. These are nice tables, but dining on the other side of the barrier wall would be preferred.) I am glad I listened to a friend's recommendation and tried this out. A lot of really famous people eat here often. It was OJ Simpson and many other Brentwood/Beverly Hills/Santa Monica social scene's favorite restaurant. The parking situation is a bit weird ... it's in a small strip mall next to a gas station. There are meters in the lot and no valet parking. The meters are one hour time limit, so you have to get up in the middle of the meal and put more money in. Maybe the regulars know a way around this, but it seemed strange. Give this place a try if you have the budget. You'll really get your money's worth and it will become a favorite. read more

Peppone was for years one of my very favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. I especially loved their Ceasar salad and Veal Chop. I recently invited friends from Palos Verdes to dinner and I was absolutely embarrassed by the horrible price value they now offer. The Ceasar was hardly garnished with dressing and the Veal chop was rare and somewhat fatty. The food has gone downhill and the staff has little personality. A "Quiet Evening" Well, my wife and I sought a restaurant for a quiet birthday celebration so on April 20th we arrived at the Peppone restaurant. Right away, the ambiance was lovely, just what you might expect from a many years ago quiet darkish place to cuddle up and enjoy an evening. The waiter was very nice and helped with the wine and dinner choices. Some nice bread was immediately served to the table. Soon thereafter, the next table was filled with three couples, including three very loud ladies willing to share whatever with the surrounding audience. End of a quiet dinner. Much to our surprise, right after setting the one glass of wine on our table, our two dinner plates were served. Must have been less than three minutes. My wife's order of egg plant parmagon was nothing more than a plate completely filled with steaming mozzerella likely from a steam table. Beneath the thick covering of unappetizing cheeze were small thin segnents of unbreaded egg plant, totally not what one might expect. To eat, the cheese had to be essentially curled up and pushed aside to nibble on the only remaining remnants. My dish, chicken parmagon, was similar in it's thick covering of mozzerella on top of a pounded thin layer of dried stringy tastless chicken. This catasrophy was joined on the plate's corned by a small chopped salad that looked like someone grabbed it from a bag of greens and carrot slices and then chucked it down. Rather than ruin an evening, we decided to grin and bear it. Althought the $140 tab and tip was really crazy for what we received, it was a memorable evening...sort of. read more

I was there a few times recently with my family and I was disappointed with the food and attempted to send 2 salads back and the chef/owner was extremely rude to me and my wife and wouldn't take them off of our bill.
