I had a concerning experience at Perfect Dental on 101 East 4th Street. The hygienist diagnosed and treated me with a $400 Arestin injection BEFORE I was seen by a dentist, which violates NYS law requiring a dentist's prior diagnosis. The cost was excessive (FAIR Health averages $98 per site), and I was not given a breakdown of the treatment after multiple requests via email. Other reviews report similar issues like on Google: overbilling (e.g., $400 for unnecessary antibiotics), lack of dentist involvement, and pressure to buy treatments. I've been going to perfect dental for years. Dr Julia has. Please understand that I had spent a fortune on my teeth in the past and take very good care of them. I'm 56, but recently my teeth started to crumble out of nowhere and causing great pain...turns out it caused from a bad gastric surgery gone wrong - all acid and constant vomiting for 2 years The young Asian doctor I think his name is Dr Jerry came in did not say hello went right to my teeth and started saying things like 'oh this is terrible' all these dramatic demonstratives about how bad my teeth were and telling me that I had 17 that were going to need saving by root canals and crowns ... I know about the cost of such things that I said that was not going to be an option he even mentioned that my Teeth were in such bad shape, he mentioned dentures.Twice when I was trying to ask a few simple questions, he literally got up and walked out of the room while I was talking as if he didn't hear me. he never looked me into the eye. He did put in a claim with my insurance and they agreed they would cover three so when I came back to get those taken care of, I wanted to ask about the dentures which he had used as an example to tell me how horrible my teeth were When he finally arrived I asked him just quickly sit down because to inquire about the dentures and he arrogantly said no! Then he denied ever saying dentures he said I never mentioned desaid . Luckily I have it on recording. He said to me condescendingly which is still unbelievable, that maybe I should start ' saving up' need for the mouth full of crowns. Upwards of 30k minimum. I don't know how privileged this doctor was but he had no concept that dental care for lots of people is a privilege and not a right he just couldn't understand why I couldn't afford it. I got up to leave and he had already left the room. I went to the front desk told them I could not deal with and i would like to go to Dr Julia instead . The woman tersely said Dr Julie does not take your insurance so if you have a problem you can go somewhere else. I don't know if this young has social problems or takes too much Adderall but as I come to this site to leave a review I see so many directly about complaints about him. Perfect dental in the past has asked me to go and write reviews when I've had a positive experiences and I have.. But now I'm hoping you'll reach out to me about what happened because sadly I do have video of the whole thing going down at one point I said he was being so dismissive so smug that he is acting like I was a homeless person at a free clinic. WARNING- Do NOT go to this dentist. I went in for an an appointment for a broken tooth. The dentist came in after x-rays and a tooth cleaning which took under ten minutes, poked my tooth, said "yeah, you have exposed dentin there", to which I replied "yes, and I am in SO much pain that I am unable to eat solid food, and I feel like I have an ice pick in my mouth. Please can we get a crown on it to ease the pain?" His EXACT words now come verbatim- "I COULD do that for you, but it's not worth my TIME or ENERGY." He then told me that I need to "go to an office where I pay out of pocket" and to leave. I am disabled and receive Medicaid, which is WHY I visited this office. He said "if I put a crown on, it might just come off anyway." My last crown did indeed come off, but it lasted for years. I told him that, and he repeated that it wasn't worth his "TIME or ENERGY" Do NOT visit this dentist. read more

This place was convenient for me because it's close to my home. I went for a filling today they said that it would be a liability to do another filling because it seems all fillings that they have been doing keep falling off of their patients. I completely understand what the dentist was saying however I wish they just would've told me that over the phone so I wouldn't have wasted my time. I could've scheduled to go elsewhere had I known this was an issue. A real waste of time. And it's a holiday so no dentist will be available in the next 5-6 days. read more

Absolutely agree with Roy's review. Went for a dental checkup, and left with a $400 bill. The cleaning was cursory at best, they took half the time of any other dentist I went to. They will leverage their position as a medical expert to coerce you to purchase antibiotics, which are unnecessary in most situations. They will make it sound like you absolutely need it, even if you do not. They were also expensive too. Most scam dentists will charge you $50/shot, this places charges $100. Learned my lesson, not all dentists can be trusted. Oh, and the best part? They don't have signal inside, so you cannot look up whether what they are suggesting is a scam. read more

This is a review of Perfect Dental on E 4th street in Manhattan, New York City. THE GOOD: The staff was warm, friendly and efficient. The place is clean. THE BAD: I technician took X-rays with a machine while I stood up. She did not seem familiar enough with this machine, and it kept hitting me in the head and neck. On top of that I still had to do regular x-rays. It was obvious to me that a tooth was infected but the young male dentist -- who didn't seem to give a s--t about me or anything else -- gave a perfunctory look at the X-rays and said there was no infection. He suggested a crown to deal with sensitivity. Not trusting this -- the pain continued -- I went to NYU Dental, got more X-rays, and was told, yes, I DID HAVE AN INFECTION. They were shocked that the dentist at IMperfect dental didn't catch it! On top of that the hygienist did a perfunctory job of cleaning. Only two months later and I feel that I could use another cleaning. She also suggested I pay (insurance doesn't cover it) to have injections of antibiotics (remember they said there was NO infection and no mention of gum disease) at $100 an injection and I would supposedly need several of these. I said NO. What a rip-off! I would not recommend this place even to an enemy. A dental student recognized an infection and the dentist here did not -- what does that tell you? read more

I booked an appointment at Perfect Dental Care in the East Village for a teeth cleaning. The receptionist confirmed that the practice accepts my insurance. Michel, a hygienist with 12 years of experience, was assigned to me. She has exceptional fine motor skills and gently cleaned my teeth thoroughly, using Cavitron equipment followed by manual scaling to remove residual plaque. Michel also welcomed my curiosity and answered all of my questions completely. I have never had a more pleasant experience at the dentist's! Rashid Khalid DMD reviewed my x-rays and detemined that my teeth and gums were in good shape and that additional treatment was not needed at this time. The only drawback was that there was a wait to be seen, even though I was early for my appointment. Since I was not pressed for time this was not a problem today. read more

What they can improve is getting dentist that genuinely care about your teeth and not your money and being so rude out the mouth. I've had two different dentist a woman and a man BOTH are rude and dismissive of the pain that's actually happening in my mouth, they rather tell me HOW I FEEL rather then just listen and help, they simply tell me that they don't specialize in something WHEN IT HAS TO DO WITH MY TEETH AND THEY ARE DENTIST ? Went here on short notice for a semi-emergency visit and received excellent care and advice. After taking full X-rays the dentist explained what my issue was. He advised me to stick with my regular dentist as my teeth were very well maintained. When I eventually returned to my regular dentist I had no trouble getting my Xrays transferred. if you not Russian or white don't go here. the slim one at the desk is nice she knows how to speak to people. wait time was good the old skinny lady who came to get me called my name after that I didn't understand anything she said to me. shes the same lady who did my xray. she had to change the filter on the mouth guard infront of me and clean off the machine from the previous client. was thankful she did. I work in healthcare I think it's so rude to speak in native language in front of patients her and another tech only talked in that language the whole time. the newer tech came in and did not say her name just like everyone else in my visit she walked up to me and said open your mouth I asked her who are you. nobody says they're name just directing what to do. I've never been to a clinic where no one introduces themselves. last but not least was an overly tanned old wrinkled lady who looked at the computer turned to me and said you ready !? I said and who are you she said I'm the dental hygienist I said okay well thank you for telling me. I told her no one is introduces their selves here. she laughed it off and said something but at this point in my head I'm not comfortable with letting these people proceed with what I'm really there for which was to talk to a dentist about my crown. she did the cleaning which was okay. by than I was over the experience I've been to pediatric clinic down the block with both my kids they handle all their patients w care and consideration ! for the first time in my life I walked out that clinic because of the intro was horrible from the xray to the cleaning I would not recommend. I legit drove from uptown to downtown thinking you get better service because you downtown. do better ALWays remember no matter what race or color treat people how you want to be treated we all going to be patients one time in our life. would you want to be treated that way ? your daughter son? ! and if you asking why I wrote out how people looked it's because I never got a name ! do better read more

The dental hygienist Marina has absolutely manners or professional courtesy. She is very curt and short and I believe it's on purpose. During my visit, as she tried to convince me that I needed to purchase an antibiotic for non-existent gum disease, whenever I had a question, her response was basically, "Because I am the hygienist". After my visit with the dentist, Marina re-entered the room as I was sitting on the chair preparing to leave and looked at me and repeatedly said "you can leave now". She needs to learn how to properly speak to people. The clients are what makes a practice fail or succeed. Her bad attitude is pushing people away from the establishment. The experience of getting xrays was fine and the assistants and staff were courteous. They then said they would check with my insurance about what would get covered and they said they would send xrays to my email. I waited and waited for months And when I called back, they made it sound like everything was my fault. They care more about money than people. They are a bit weird and shady. I don't want to return. I had about the best cleaning I've ever had from a hygienist called "Yosh," I believe. Precise but painless--no bleeding! State-of-the-art tech. I can feel the difference in my teeth five days later. Plaque broken up, enamel good. I've also worked with Sophia, the dentist, and she too is terrific. They are always thoughtful, helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommended. read more

I called at 4.45 and they close at 5 my crown just came off and i was in a panic as i was going to be busy and away from the city . they said get here in 10 minutes we will take care of you . no insurance or $$ hassles i was in a chair and xrayed in minutes the technician was great and banged out the xray in a hot second The Dentist was fabulous repaired and reattached my crown and even gave me a check up and she noticed something on my upper teeth . she did some extra work all this was done after they had closed . no pressure no rush and most importantly there was never any pressure for paperwork or payment . when i finally and happily with a full set of teeth checked out they gracefully only charged me the basic , i am 100% fully satisfied and happy with this dental practice . i will recommend them to all and any . ps loved the Van Halen not so much the Madonna lol thanks guys read more

Scam artists. When I went in April, the hygienists told me I was at stage 2 of halitosis and could reach stage 4 if I didn't spent $400 getting some sort of spray across the four corners of my mouth. I asked them if I could get a 2nd opinion before getting the spray, but they pressured me and told me that every moment I didn't get the spray, I'd be permanently damaging my teeth, so I agreed to the spray. I found out after the fact from a friend who used to work as a dentist in NYC that this is a common tactic to upcharge first-time patients who the dentists never expect to return - there are extremely cheap, over the counter alternatives to the $400 spray, and the 'permanent damage' risk, while not entirely untrue, was way overblown. These people are looking for a quick buck - don't give it to them. read more

i have been going here for years and have never had a complaint until now. The office is immaculate and it gives off the vibe of a state-of-the-art medical facility. The women at the desk were very friendly, helpful, and professional, The gentleman hygienist was competent, quick, and friendly. Before I I even met the doctor one of the associates came in and 'diagnosed' that I may have to put a cap placed on the tooth and the price she quoted me was excellent. Some minutes later the doctor came in and did not even look in my mouth. From a couple of feet away he stated that the tooth had to come out and he would refer me to a dental surgeon. By the time I got to the front desk, the referral was typed up and ready to go. However, there were no recommendations for surgeons on it and when I inquired I was told they don't do that and I would have to find one on my own! So now I have to find some pig in the poke surgeon in the East Village on my own. I have been going here for years but think I will be looking for a new DDS in the future. read more

When I first called and told them my insurance the front desk girl said my insurance was "not accepted, we only take private insurance" i was so confused as i had private insurance. I called back and spoke to someone else and found out they do take my insurance. When i saw the doctor she was nice however seemed very rushed, exhausted and not caring at all. She told me i had cavities and took pictures of it and literally walked away without saying bye or anything. Two minutes later front desk girl comes to the room ( as im still in the dental chair) and began explaining the fees and charges i have to pay.
