New to the area and looking for a hair stylist. Got on Yelp, messaged Perfect Style about an appointment for the next day and got a response quick with 3 options, great! I shaved my head a few months ago and am deciding to let it grow out, unfortunately, it's at an awkward stage. Tracey helped me tidy up the back by trimming it with a razor. Which is pretty much what I was expecting because it's so short. She was kind enough to charge me a lower price too. She also shampooed and styled / put gel on my hair to give it shape and texture. She was knowledgeable and had a few recommendations such as dye color, and shampoo to promote hair growth. Best of all she was amicable and made me feel comfortable and at ease. (Sorry for the long review. Short review is at the bottom, last paragraph) I came to the salon to treat myself. This was when businesses were barely opening up after lockdown so I was still uneasy about going out for non-essential things but I wanted to treat myself to a haircut before my birthday and it had also been 2.5 years of not getting a trim professionally. I called and asked about safety precautions before scheduling an appointment so I would feel more comfortable going in. I explained over the phone that I had been on strict lockdown bc I live with more than one immunocompromised loved one and wanted to be safe while doing something nice for myself. She assured me that masks are required by clients and staff, and that sanitization was happening frequently. I booked the first appointment available which was the next day at 8AM. I took off one star because my appointment time comes and the salon is locked even though I see two stylists already working on someone inside. I was told that they forgot they even had an appointment that early. They looked at me like I was crazy for saying that I had one even though I had just booked it the late afternoon/evening the day before. I took off the second star because the COVID protocols they assured me were in place weren't actually followed. Two stylists were working on a family member/good friend before hours (which is fine and not any of my business) but 2 of the 3 were maskless. After we sorted out the fact that I did have an appointment, she had the family friend moved over but didn't sanitize where she had been before she sat me down. I explained again that I was uneasy about being in the salon where COVID protocols aren't followed as I had been on strict lockdown bc I live with more than one immunocompromised loved one. She said she was strict about safety protocols, too, but didn't ask the other stylist and client to mask up. I took off the third star because I received unsolicited advice and remarks about the acne on my back, something I am insecure about. I didn't think my acne was that bad but it was enough to get unwanted comments about. I had stepped out of my comfort zone and wore a halter top rather than a t-shirt bc it was supposed to be warm that day, and figured that a cute haircut deserves a cute outfit to go along. It was a cute outfit, but I still regret wearing it. The trim itself was okay. I got long layers bc I don't know how to do that myself. Only half of my hair was curled afterwards. Probably not going back. I feel like it would've been a better experience if my appointment wasn't forgotten, the COVID protocols I was assured were in place were followed and I didn't get advice/comments I didn't ask for. read more

The last time I cut my hair was over 4 years ago and it's been nearly a decade since I've gone to a salon for a haircut after years of Chinese salon trauma while I was growing up. So I've been very anxious about letting other people cut my hair over the years. I was especially worried since I was making such a drastic change. 04/18/2019 Absolutely had to add an update to my review. Since getting my hair cut by Tracey, I've made some changes in my haircare regime as she suggested. OH MY GOSH, she was right! During my appointment, she told me that I was suffering from hair loss and thinning at my crown due to the way that I shampooed my hair. I'm only 29 so naturally I was freaking out. She suggested either switching to a non-hair fall shampoo (ie. fewer chemicals, more gentle) and avoiding shampooing directly at my roots. Two weeks ago I switched to a shampoo designed to reduce hair fall and loss (paraben and sulphate-free, fortified with biotin and collagen) and it has already made such a difference! Much less hair falling out when I brush and wash my hair. Tracey knows her stuff, period. Given her level of expertise and talent, I am so surprised that she doesn't charge more! 03/30/2019 I've been looking for a stylist in the area for a long time, and came across Perfect Style and decided to book an appointment based on the glowing reviews. I am so glad that I took the chance! Tracey made me feel extremely welcome, and made sure to ask exactly what I wanted before proceeding with my haircut. I came in asking for a trim because I had dead and dry ends, and specified exactly how many inches I wanted cut off.
