On my way to Legacy Brewing Company for this past Wednesday's Yelp Brewventure, my stomach started rumbling... and with my blood sugar dropping whilst in traffic, that wasn't a good thing. Remembering that I had purchased a Groupon sometime back for a $6 combo of sandwich, chips, and drink, and that this particular Submarina was on the way to the brewery, I figured it was time for a pit stop. I decided to order their Triple Play sandwich (turkey, ham, and roast beef with provolone - similar to Subway's Subway Club), and paid extra to add avocado to my order. One of the things I like about this local chain is that not only is everything fresh - including the meats, which were newly sliced for my meal - there's also sliced bread options such as squaw, sourdough, and rye (which I chose for my Triple Play), and they will toast your sandwich for you while you wait. Now, while I was somewhat disappointed by the Submarina location near my place... for some reason, my order turned out great. Maybe it was adding the avocado, or the freshly sliced meats, or even the Italian dressing I added to my sandwich, but I definitely was happy with my order! Perfectsubs reminds me of High School, both because of the youth that work here and the fact that of the few times I do come in here there is at least 1 group of youth sports teams roving around here after a game. Subs, Chips, Drink. Decent selection of the laters and options galore on the former. I've found as an adult that we like what we like until we are shown otherwise. Previous favorites were Ham/Turkey/Cheese from Port of Subs, Cesar Chicken from Subman, Italian from Jersey Mikes. My usual is a turkey, ham, swiss on rye or their Italian toasted. I find their breads to be less crusty, but also less sweet, both of which I prefer on a sub. Some sandwiches need that crust, some need a sweeter bread, but not the 2 I usually get. Mayo, honey mustard and BBQ on the turkey/ham/swiss and dressing on the Italian. Their subs are a perfect size, not enormous, but definitely filling. I have a solid appetite and never leave stuffed or unsatisfied with my usual chips, drink, sub combos. The service is always good, albeit they could use some confidence in their delivery, like they know what they are doing and are happy to do it. That will probably come with time and experience, but when I was working food service back in High School I was a Picasso with my pizzas and treated chicken teriyaki bowls like sushi. I feel like their condiments could use some more zing (peppers, pickles, olives). Prices are pretty standard. Décor is also expected from a Sub shop. I do find it lacks a little character. Something unique, something almost inviting and warm. I like the windows, but not the location, it's pretty stuck despite being able to be seen, it's a weird business park that doesn't have an anchor to it, lots of expansion, but not a lot of stability aside from the fast food places. read more

New to this area and decided to stop by one evening. I was the only customer and liked it since it reminded me of the sub shops in NYC, so I made a mental note to stop by again. Today, I stopped in when it was crazy busy. All of the employees worked together super efficiently, looked unfazed, and were genuinely pleasant -- I was truly impressed! Employees cleaned down tables frequently and the bathrooms were clean as well. Kudos to the management, this is a very well run establishment. Oh and the subs themselves taste fresh and great. Today, I donated blood for humanity and in return for my generosity in giving the juice of life (wait for it...), I was rewarded by my work with a $5 dollar gift certificate to Submarina. Though, a fleeting thought crossed my mind - my blood is equal to a pastrami sandwich. Honestly $11.50 seems steep but the gift cert made up for it. Besides, I have the other half of the sammich for later. The gal who made my pastrami suggested swiss (awesome) and toasted my order twice - bread then cheese FTW! That's service. This location does very brisk business from an art-deco inspired strip mall - seemingly, an island of respite - for the light industry and office professional uses along Palomar Airport Road. SBM is also as we all know it with its logo and funky wall color (is that teal?) that looks like a dated sport drink from a 99-cent store. Regardless, the staff is friendly, joking with the regulars and even asked me how I'd like to take my 9-inches (wait for it...) sliced - half, thirds, quarters? The line out the door moves quickly. Far from "perfect". Very expensive, and pink lettuce rotting on the countertop that no one seemed to be bothered by. I came here for a quick bite after a workout after seeing that the menu was essentially what used to be offered at Sub-Marina, which I always enjoyed. Some of the things I enjoyed about Sub-Marina were still there: large menu, squaw bread, good sauces and good pickles. Service was fine too. The problem was the price and the lettuce going bad. My sandwich was about $8 for a 6 inch, which seems like way too much. I wanted to get a 9 inch, but then my sandwich would've been almost $11! Steak money! The amount of meat in the sandwich was below average, which was disappointing seeing as how other reviewers had commented on how much meat you got. And the LETTUCE! All of the lettuce was pink. Wilted and pink. I passed on an ingredient I wanted because it was going bad and no one seemed to notice or care. Unacceptable. There's potential here, but you either need to get more for your money or prices need to come down. Also, rotting ingredients are what will ensure I won't be coming back. read more

Came here while waiting for my car to be washed after a hard workout. This is a cute little submarina that borders Carlsbad/Vista/beginning of San Marcos. It's tucked away so you wouldn't know it was out here unless you came for other reasons but I'm sure glad it is out here! Submarina always trumps Subway every time. The meats are fresh, they slice them up right in front of you, the cheeses are fresh and the avo is to die for. I can't not get Avo when I come here. Today I got the Cali on squaw bread with all the fixins'. And it was just delicious! The staff (Mark, Jermaine and Denise; forgive me if the spellings are incorrect!) were very friendly and I didn't feel rushed or like I was an inconvenience to them since there was only one or two other people here when I arrived. Sometimes when businesses are slow-ish they seem annoyed at having to work but they were all very polite and patient. Much prefer them to other sandwich joints that are around here. Greetings unto his Excellence, Sir Joshua Murch! I must say that you have a wonderful store, perfectly located in a nice shopping center with a beautiful landscape! Your restaurant is kept clean & refreshing. The Christian music that you play in the dining area is wonderfully delightful. And the sandwiches are great! The only area that you could probably really use a little help with is staffing some people with a little happiness, appreciation, hospitality, and zeal. I mean I see all these glorious comments about the staff you had 2 & 3 years ago and I think to myself, "Gosh, if I could only have met these people in this wonderful atmosphere back then, it would truly make my dining experience, today, absolutely stupendous!" But I just have to deal with your existing staff that kind of makes one feel like the wart on the princess' nose! I mean they aren't rude, crude, or obnoxious with their verbal expressions; however, there is the very real, underlying sensation in the attitudes that they harbor that truly makes a customer feel unwanted in your store! You should give your staff an injection of "happy juice" before they start their shift so that when your customers walk in the door your staff does things like greet them with a warm smile and say things like, "Hi there, how are you doing today?... Let me know when you're ready to order and I'll be right with you!" But instead it is more like, "Wait a second... I'll be with you in a minute... Is there anything else you want... Will that be all?" and things like that. And the dismal tone in their voices almost leads me to think that perhaps they are overworked & underpaid or something! But, I know that couldn't be the case for you're a Christian man who probably takes great pride in caring for his employees, right? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, yes? And, despite my own efforts that I have used, time & time again, to try instill a little hospitality and congeniality in your staff as they assist me and make my sandwich, I don't seem to be making any progress! Sometimes I begin by asking questions like, "So how are you doing today?" and I always get a very solemn, one-word response that says something like, "Alright.... Good... Fine!" Every once in a while they might ask me that question back and I say, "Absolutely wonderful!" So, I often think to myself, "Perhaps they are just young, unhappy staff members having to work for an hourly wage in the grind of our plutocratic society and are a little frustrated at this level of their lives?" So I try to add a little delight to their day by providing gratuities & tips and you would think, if this was, indeed, the problem, they would be overjoyed when their customers give them a gratuity/tip every time they go to have a fresh sandwich for lunch; but, instead, they just kind of have an attitude like, "Yeah, whatever!...." So, by time you finish your order and they are ringing you up they kind of swat you with this final comment that says something like, "Is there anything else you want?" or "Will that be all?" that kind of reeks of this attitude that really makes one feel somewhat unwanted & unappreciated! In fact, it has even caused me to ask myself from time to time, "Is this what you are tipping them for in their services unto you?" Now, I don't know what is causing that... perhaps I am just catching them too early in the morning at 10:00 a.m., just as they have rolled out of their cribs and lost their pacifiers! I don't know! But this definitely isn't a one-time experience... It happens every time I go in! And, I know you're probably a busy man who has many other things to attend to other than managing your store; but, I think it would behoove you to spend a little time overseeing a few things! Perhaps even fulfill a guiding role by showing them how you would conduct & fulfill these individuals roles while they watch your interaction! It would provide a wonderful source guidance, direction, & support that I believe they would even come to emulate in time & even share with your customers when you weren't there! read more

Instantly regretted ordering here. I got the breakfast sub $6.50 for 6 inch. It comes with Egg, choice of meat (bacon, ham, steak). I wasn't expecting the egg to be that pre cooked microwaved fake scrambled egg. Only 2 thin slices of ham. I was hoping for an over easy egg or at least fresh scrambled eggs. Never been inside this location, only the one that was in San Marcos or Oceanside by the beach. This one is in a business park in the vista/cbad area. Good news for me, its empty in the night! I was the only customer in there so I got great one on one service. The place was clean, and even though no one was in there all staff members were working and cleaning. Nice! They care! I got the Turkey with Avacado. I would of taken a picture of it but my dog came along and ate the top half right off, true story. I was mad, because I was hungry, and it was delicious!
