I attended its grand opening and honestly it was the very first time I heard about Sourdough & Co. Since I'm a huge fan of sourdough bread and baked it myself, I was excited to support this new business striving to bring the freshest and highest quality deli sandwiches to Carlsbad. Just tried this place for the first time was disappointed. Sandwich was okay but they forgot the Mac and cheese that paid for as a combo. When I went back to ask about it they filled a small dish and put it in the microwave, still didn't come out hot. Also they said they were out of fountain drinks and sold us a canned soda but the next 3-5 customers got fountain sodas??? The bathroom was out of both TP and paper towels other bathroom was out of order. Two people in a row got their orders and were told they were only charged for one of the two sandwiches they ordered. One waited for the second sandwich the other just took the one (not worth it. Hope they can improve. read more

I am already a fan of the food here. I first discovered them when they were in the islands food court off Faraday in Carlsbad. Unfortunately, that location closed, but another location opened in San Elijo. Their sandwiches are nostalgic to me because they taste like one my favorite sourdough spots from the Bay Area. When I heard this new location was opening and I saw a flyer for the grand opening, I decided to attend. Upon arriving, there was already a long line of about 60 people. It was pretty rainy, but the line was under an awning so it was OK. It moved pretty quickly. Since I am familiar with the menu, I already knew what I was going to get, which is the turkey pastrami with everything. The person at the counter taking the orders was very nice and explained things to everyone who hadn't been before. I'm old-fashioned so I like mayo and mustard and usually skip the house spread. I added a chocolate chip cookie and drink to my order. There were quite a few tables and people were coming and going constantly so seating wasn't bad for the crowd size. When they called my number, I grabbed my order and sat down. My sandwich was nice and toasty from the nice warm bread, which was great after being a little bit chilled. My sandwich tasted great and exactly as I remembered it from other times at other locations. I did not know that they are all franchised but that is apparently the case. I'm glad it's here. It's a perfect stop for a sandwich and I love that they have 4, 6 and 8 inch sizes to choose from, so, no matter how hungry you are you have a choice. I'll probably even be back this week. read more

There was one other person in the shop took them 15 minutes, but they also said that they had to make the chicken salad. Service is not friendly at all. The chicken salad was yellow from an over abundance of mustard. There was one grape cut in half and maybe two. And about five pieces of nuts.. the chickens have so watery. It was dripping like mustard water. I also ordered a side of their mac & cheese, which I do not recommend and it was the worst mac & cheese I've ever had in my life and it was a $20 meal. Don't waste your time our your money. I got the food to go so needless to say I was not about to drive back out through the traffic to ask for a refund, but if I had eaten in the shop definitely would've asked for my money back. i'll give him one star because it was clean. read more

Stopped in for lunch and tried a pastrami sandwich and their creamy potato soup (Wednesday and Thursday soup of the day.) The bread was so delicious! Cracker crust on the fresh and fluffy bread, stuffed with warm pastrami and all the fixings. Service was nice and quick and there were plenty of tables inside and outside available. Will definitely have to come back next time I'm in the area! read more

I'm really town between 3 and 4 stars. Overall my sandwich was tasty but the menu wasn't super clear and service wasn't helpful in helping us decide. Prices were also a bit steep. Dined in a Friday around 5 pm. We were the only ones who were in the restaurant at the time. I chose the French dip while my husband chose the brisket sandwich (both off the specialty menu). We were asked what size we wanted - 4, 6, or 8 inch which was strange because the menu only lists one price. Ultimately I chose the 8 while my husband chose the 4. I think mine was a dollar more than the listed price while my husband's was a dollar less so it seems that the 8 inch is the best deal. Had he known this he probably would've chosen the 8 and taken some home. We also added on a drink for 3.49. With tax out total was just shy of 35 dollars which seemed a bit steep. Once we sat down and waited for our food we realized that we could have done a drink and a bag of chips for $3.99 instead of just the drink for for $3.49. I really wish the woman taking our order had guided us a bit more in the different options. I also noticed that there were items promoted that did not appear on the menu and price differences between the wall menu and the handheld menu. We are likely to try again but the prices won't have us rushing back. read more

The food is absolutely delicious! Some may say the sandwich size is on the small side but to me it's quality over quantity. My usual order is the New England chowder in a bread bowl. The bread is fresh and warm. The chowder is outstanding. The owners are super friendly as well. I feel lucky to have this place in my neighborhood. read more

Just another chain restaurant. I truly miss the old local deli where you could enjoy real, simple food. The setup is fine but very generic--think IKEA-style tables and chairs. It feels cold and not very cozy. The food was better than I expected, though nothing memorable. I had a chef's salad with sourdough bread, and it was decent. Service was basically nonexistent since you order at the counter. I might come back again, depending on my time and location, but it wouldn't be a place I go out of my way to visit. read more

Came here for the grand opening, and although the line was long, and went fairly quick. I'm glad I chose to stay and not leave, since when we finally got inside and ordered our sandwich it was quite delicious! I'm a huge sourdough bread fan and that fact the bread was warm and crunchy made the sandwich even more yummy. The staff were super sweet and very welcoming amidst the craziness which was nice. Nope! Ordered takeout from Uber. French dip, mac & cheese and a cookie. The $18 French dip was a couple slices of roast beef. Au Ju sauce container was not sealed and leaked on everything, and cookies we're soggy... they soaked up most of the Au Ju. The mac & cheese was the worst I've had. Saw this new sandwich shop and decided to give it a try. Service was pleasant and easy to order at the counter. We got a turkey sandwich and a french dip. We were told the bread is made fresh daily on site. The bread was great, however, there was no fresh baked bread smell. It was a beautiful day so we chose to sit outside.
