You wouldn't think finding a really good chicken teriyaki spot would be that hard, but if you have high teri standards like I do, you know the struggle. Most places are just... fine. So I keep trying new spots hoping one finally hits. I'd driven past Urban Teri Kitchen a bunch of times taking my kids to practices and games and finally decided to stop in. Didn't even check Yelp first. Just went in blind based on a good feeling about the place. Glad I did. I ordered the half-and-half with chicken teriyaki and katsu, and honestly it was one of the better teriyaki plates I've had anywhere around here. The chicken was flavorful, the katsu was crispy without being greasy, and everything tasted fresh. It's a little pricier than some teriyaki spots, but the quality backs it up. My wife and I could easily split one order next time. I came in around 4 PM, so it wasn't packed, but the people inside looked happy, the restaurant was clean, and the whole place just had a really good vibe. Sometimes you can tell within a minute whether a place cares about what they're doing, and this felt like one of those spots. There's a reason they've got 4.7 stars. So I ordered a couple plates from here and this is your higher end LNL Hawaiian kitchen type food, but I would say the curry mix was really delicious because it was both thick and not salty and had the right amount of spice to it. I would also say they gave you a lot of chicken for the plate that you get the downside that I would vote for is the kimchi was not great. It was probably a little odd being so sweet and I would say it was not really fresh. My husband and I enjoy coming here during those weeknights when we want great food, but don't feel like making food over our kitchen stove. I love their chicken katsu curry and my husband loves their chicken sandwich with fries! They also have Sapporo and Asahi for the beer lovers. The service here is always wonderful and the restaurant clean and inviting. Parking is easy to find since it's located in a plaza with plenty of space for visitors. This kept coming up as a suggestion but I thought it was connected to Teri cafe (had a bad experience) so I didn't go. Someone told me they aren't related so I read the reviews and decided to try it. It's in the old Truphilly cheesesteak location We walked in and there were to go orders on the counter (good sign) and 2 sets of people waiting for their orders. It's got a few 4 tops and quite a few 2 top tables, plus 2 large outdoor tables for bigger parties. We looked at the menu and took a bit to decide. We ended up getting Kalbi teriyaki and fire chicken teriyaki. The come with rice and Mac salad. The man at the counter was helpful and welcoming. He always kept our waters full too. We chose a table and our waters were brought promptly. As we waited the togo orders were picked up and the restaurant started to fill up. We got our food in a reasonable amount of time. It was perfectly cooked and had a lot of flavor. The Mac salad was some of the best I've had in a very long time, not overly mayo laden. The fire teriyaki was too hot for me (I'm kind of wimpy), but the flavor was really good. I really had a hard time choosing because there is so much I want to try. I saw it was a fusion of different flavors put together. I figured I'd try something different. I thought it would be more like L & L Hawaiian BBQ. It wasn't and I ended up not liking the beef or macaroni salad. The chicken katsu I liked and ate it, but it could've used a little more flavor. The spam musubi was ok. I ordered it and had a friend pick it up and drop it off so I didn't get to see the inside of the store. The lady who took my order over the phone was very nice and patient. Curiosity, with an interesting menu and we found our place. Once we arrived we ordered our food at the counter after some excellent suggestions from the cashier. The food was made to order. We waited about 15 mins and they brought it to our table. We dug in and OMG!!! For our appetizers we ordered egg rolls, saying that they were fresh doesn't even begin to describe them. Best egg rolls I've had in forever. The other app we had where the Tempura Shrimp. Fresh and crisp and cooked to a golden brown. Tasty and fresh. We arrived before the dinner rush and the main meals rocked. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and kalbi combo #5. It was fresh, fresh, fresh. The chicken pulled apart easily and packed with flavor. The Kalbi was tender and easy to cut with a knife. The flavor was so good and have I said fresh. The Korean Chicken #9 was so good, one bite and I had to put my down my fork and savor the moment. The flavors and freshness were delicious. We are looking forward to our return. If you're in the area, swing by for a plate. My daughter and I were in the area, saw this place and decided to try it. We're glad we did! Located in a strip mall, it wasn't busy on a Thursday mid-afternoon, so parking was easy. The coating on the chicken on both my sandwich and the wings were nice & crispy, you can hear the crunch, and they were seasoned well. I loved the flavors of the sandwich. It tasted like a sweet soy on the chicken. That along with the pineapple & pickles? Harmony. The only thing that was a challenge for me was keeping everything in it together in each bite. I found myself needing to constantly adjust the bun, chicken & condiments. I really needed to eat this with a fork & knife. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, around 6pm. Not terribly busy, but there was a consistent flow of customers. We were a large group of 10, and we were taken care of. We ordered at the counter and our food was brought out to us. Even though there is technically no waiter service, the guy behind the counter was so nice and attentive, keeping our water cups filled, and clearing our empty plates after. Everything was yummy... the Korean fried chicken, katsu, tofu.. all things that were suppose to be crispy all had a nice crunch to it. Hawaiian flavors are generally on the sweeter side, and their teriyaki sauce is no different. The rice was nice and fluffy, and macaroni salad was also flavorful but also mild enough to balance the sweet soy flavors. The kids enjoyed the ramen, gyozas, and the spam musubi too. Was able to come and experience Urban Teri Kitchen, on its very first day open! The establishment used to be home to a Philly cheesesteak place but in my opinion im actually glad they have the space. The food is DELICIOUS, very good blend of asian and Hawaiian flavors, i got the fire teriyaki plate that comes with a side of white rice and mac salad. And the servings were generous. We also got the bulgogi fries which exceeded our expectations as the bulgogi was so so good. Unfortunately i forgot to take a pic of my wife's ramen but she rated it a 9.5 out of 10. The service was very good, and they made us feel like part of the family. I am excited to come back to try more foods on their menu! read more

Craving ramen, but wanted to try something a little different from the usual eateries we haunted around Carlsbad area. Okay, we went a little inland because we also wanted to check out a food truck stand around the Vista area (see review for No More Boring Cakes). Anyway, back to this eatery... we ordered Katsu ramen, mixed chicken plate that included macaroni salad and rice to eat in, and we also ordered a chicken sandwich to go. My boyfriend's plate was very tasty, but my ramen was omgee dee-freakin-licious. That bowl really satisfied my ramen-Jones. Total bill price for ramen and plate was affordable - altho' sandwich was a little on the pricey side. Hawaiian food is comfort food I find myself craving more often than not. I understand the food comas that ensue after engulfing such a heavy meal but the satisfaction and experience is always worth it. So, when my trusty Yelp feed showed Urban Teri Kitchen and the amazing photos of the dishes, I had to try it out for myself. I tried the Chicken Teriyaki and Katsu combo plate and the Chicken Sandwich and Fries. The combo plate was largely portioned (as pleasantly expected) and both chicken variations were so delicious. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too thick and overly smothered. It allowed that grilled chicken flavor to still be present. The chicken katsu also had a nice ratio of breading to chicken and the crispiness made every bite so glorious. I ordered kimchi with it and that variation paired very well and added different combinations to try. (I do LOVE kimchi btw). The chicken sandwich was also sooo good. Hefty chunk of chicken breast and not overly breaded and not super greasy/oily. Ugh, I'm salivating just writing this review. One thing I do wish I they provided more of was another scoop of rice but I could've just ordered another one. But in hindsight, maybe it was a good thing since my stomach was already beyond capacity. This place is in a plaza with abundant parking and very roomy space to dine inside. Paid by card. Urban Teri is located in a plaza and offers a lot of plaza parking. I went here on a Friday afternoon for lunch and was able to order and be seated right away. The staff was really friendly and the restaurant was comfortable and clean. I ordered the Korean chicken, but they have a good selection of Hawaiian food, beer, and soju. We chose this restaurant for its Hawaiian theme menu and the strong reviews. We celebrated a 10 year anniversary of a girls trip to Hawaii and a birthday. The bones of the place represents a "fast food " format. Order at the register and the cashier brought our food. The place was clean , felt new. Note. As far as I could tell the drinks were canned or bottled. We opted for water So it's very casual . However the plates we were served were amazing. Solid . The chicken skillet was delicious. Came out sizzling and full of delicious flavors. Chicken teriyaki made with quality chicken. My Korean fried chicken was good. Not fatty or chewy , but I regret not ordering the traditional Hawaiian plates. Kalbi Beef , Teriyaki, spam Our cashier/server was super friendly and truly cared about our dinning experience. I ordered doordash from here and I'm not kidding when I tell you my jaw dropped when I got the food. We ordered the kalbi plate and chicken/beef plate and underneath the hearty amount of meat was at least 2 scoops of rice. Combine that with the mac salad and salad and we were pleasantly stuffed by the end. While it's obviously never going to compare to the food in Hawaii, I can truly say that this is now my favorite Hawaiian restaurant in North County SD and I really have been to all of them! The first time I ordered from Urban Teriyaki the food (chicken cutlets) was tasty and cooked great, but the second time I reordered the chicken cutlet the chicken was way over cooked or deep fried. I've tried both the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu. The katsu was okay the second time around, I think overcooked and the filet thinner than I prefer (mostly breading). Picture is from the first time. But the teriyaki is a stand out. It's perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. I love rice so would be happy with a little more, but thanks for saving my diet :p plenty of food and prices are as expected. Very clean inside and nice service. read more

Service was ok, you ordering at a counter and then food is delivered to your table. We ordered 2 orders of Teriyaki Chicken and 2 orders of Teriyaki Calbi Short Ribs. All orders are coming with White Rice, salad with homemade dressings and macaroni salad. It's a small place, was surprisingly busy for Friday lunch and one complain is the chairs, very uncomfortable and forget about seating outside.
