Amazing sub sandwiches! Their menu is huge and there are lots of options for customization. The sandwiches were super yummy, we tried the ATC and the House sub. The sandwich makers were so friendly and the ambiance was really comfortable, like being in a really familiar place where you can just come and relax and eat good food. 10/10 for customer service. The ingredients tasted SO fresh. Portions were big as well, I got a 6 inch and could only eat half. We'll definitely be regulars here. This is the best place to get sandwiches! This is your classic deli with more than 30 sandwich options and four types of bread with all your usual sandwich toppings. We had a classic Italian and a pastrami and cheese. Both sandwiches were really good and were loaded with meat and toppings. This is some of the better pastrami I've had in the San Diego area. The bread was fresh which is always a nice addition to any sandwich. It is an easy five stars for taste and value. Two six in sandwiches totaled $17. It really is a giant sandwich (and I got the smallest one--6 inches) and it was still a belly buster. I went with the squaw bread which is slightly on the sweet side and it was excellent. There are other bread-type options and they all looked good. I can't believe I just found this place. I don't think I would put sandwiches on my list of comfort foods, but man, I love and appreciate a good sammich. Recently I've been on a hunt for well cooked, homemade pastrami. And while Sub-Marine may not make their own (or buy a very good quality one to slice), they certainly hit all the other marks of a great sub. Been here a couple of times since moving into the neighborhood, once for a Veggie Sub, another time for their Meatball, and finally that Pastrami. Each time I've tried their breads (the Squaw and the French roll so far), it's had a wonderfully chewy crust and a soft and flavorful interior. I don't know if they make their own or buy it daily from somewhere, but the bread here is perfect. And that Veggie Sub, it's difficult to imagine that anything without meat on it could be this satisfying. While opting for something on the lighter side one dinner, I selected this for myself and was amazed at the size and quality of what was presented to me. On a huge roll of Squaw Bread was served a variety of greenery, along with tomatoes, onions, and a large smear of avocado. It was hearty, nicely salted, and very filling; all in all, an outstanding sandwich. Whenever I grab a Meatball Sub for my son or mother, the sandwich itself is huge, easy to split between them (even at the 9" size), and enough to satisfy both their hunger as well as their craving for a good sandwich. Not too messy, easy to cut and eat, this one is always a hit with my 9 year old. And last that Pastrami. The meat itself may not have been what I was looking for, but it was still alright. And mix the toppings, sauces, and that great bread, and this sandwich still came out above average. Sub-Marine may not be the best sandwich stop around, but it does a great job trying to live up to that standard. And as close as it is, it's a safe bet we'll come back here for lunches and dinner time and time again. read more

Of course I also love the fact you can get smoked cheddar on your sandwich which just adds to the flavor profile. All the meats sliced up freshly in front of you and made to your liking. Ordered a party platter for my daughter's Birthday which happened to be for the following day. They clearly knew the platter was for the following day. And yet still put all condiments directly on the sandwiches. Any sandwich place knows you put ALL condiments and toppings on the side for a catering order no matter what! So then they tried to make me feel bad for their mistake! Talked rudely to me, argued with me, told me they can't remake them because they are out of bread and when I asked for a refund and said I can't accept the sandwiches as they will be soggy for the party the following day since having mayo mustard dressing tomato lettuce all the things that make it soggy told me that's not fair! Yeah it's not fair that I paid $110 for soggy sandwiches because you made a mistake! So rude. Very disappointed in this place and I've been going there for years. Never again!! read more

So when I did a Yelp search in my area for submarine sandwiches Sub-Marine in San Marcos showed up on my list and, within 20 minutes I was at their doorstep!!! It's located in a small strip mall with plenty of parking in the lot or on the street. I walked in and was happy to see it's an AWESOME family run place that's been in business for over 30 years!!! YEW!!! As you walk in the menu is to your left. You order on the left side of the counter and pay to the right. On the far right they have a refrigerator filled with drinks and yummy looking salads! I, of course, for my first time visit had to order their 12 inch Big Kahuna, on a squaw bread roll. I was sooooooo HAPPY to see that they handcarve their meats for each and every sandwich!!! I'm so tired of pre-portioned sandwich places at supermarkets and chain sandwich places. I want to see my yummy indulgence made completely fresh in front of me! Finding a family run, handmade sandwich place like this is truly difficult to find in North San Diego! The people who work here are so NICE. Apparently, sandwiches #16 ATC Avocado, Turkey, Cheese and #33 BAT Bacon, Avocado, Turkey, Cheese are their most popular.
