I spoke to Lisa on the phone because I need them to remove 2 of the thermal panels that her company installed for some roof repair work. She quoted me on the phone and promised to email a formal quote to me but she never did. Then my husband contacted her and she quoted him double the price! Then she kept calling me but I refused to pick up because they are dishonest and push you to agree to have them do the job and then charge whatever they want to! I agree with the other 1 star reviews. Performance solar is unprofessional, greedy and cherry pick their work. Stay away from them! read more

We had Performance Solar put a whole house solar system on our roof 6 and a half years ago. At that time, we told Dennis, the owner, that we might need a new roof first. He said he would stop by at a later date and check it out to be sure (we signed the contract in the evening so it was to dark then). He never stopped by. Just before the install Dennis said the panels that we signed the contract for didn't come in but he had different panels that would be the same. We ended up getting the solar on because they said the roof looked ok when they came to install. Fast forward to current time, we need a new roof so I called Performance Solar 3 times to have the panels removed and reinstalled for the new roof. Never received a return call even though I was told that Dennis was given my messages. We contacted another company to take them off and replace them. They came out today and lo and behold we found out that when Performance Solar switched the panels they didn't switch the supporting equipment. The monitor was for the original panels and was not compatible with the panels on our roof. So we have never been hooked up to the monitoring system and haven't had a warranty because of that. They had tar in the conduits and cut every corner they could. I usually hire a company after looking at the yelp reviews but this time the pool company had referred them so I made the mistake of not checking them out. ( I was looking for pool solar but decided on the whole house solar instead.) I really don't know how Performance Solar is still in business. We are going to have to pay again just to get compatible equipment. While the company taking the panels down was here, we placed a call to the solar panel manufacturer and found out about the monitoring system so it wasn't one company trying to get us to pay more. The manufacturer said that Solar Performance never completed the final steps to get the monitor on line. (Probably because they knew it wasn't the right monitor?) read more

I don't think that there was one year in the ten years or so that we have had this equipment that we did not have some sort of leaking problem. We called them again this year, as there was quite a bit of water coming off of the roof, and they told us that we had 4 "frost damaged" panels, and it would require a replacement at the cost of almost $7,000.00. If we could go back and do it over again, we would go with a different company, that is what we are looking into now. We simply don't have confidence in this company. Their customer service is bad, I have, in the past, been begging for someone to come out the next day, as we had company coming and wanted a heated swimming pool....and there was never a commitment for a firm appointment time for repairs. read more

We cannot get a firm commitment from them to come and fix a simple leak. The woman on the phone is very vague and a little abrupt. We have no idea if they are coming or not nor when. They installed our system 10 years ago. We have been happy with the system. We had one leak which they repaired for a fee. At the time, they responded quickly and on time. This time we waited and they showed up unannounced. Leak fixed and all is good now. It would be really helpful to have general appointments as is custom for most work. read more

We have been with Performance Solar for almost 20 years. They have always stood behind their product and Dennis has been an absolute stand up guy, honest and always willing to answer questions. We recently had to put a new roof on our house, and his crew came out quickly and removed and reinstalled the system, actually taking the time to reroute some of the plumbing and improve the original system. After all this time they have always been there when we needed them for any concerns or issues (there haven't been any, other than having to replace some panels that needed to be replaced WAY after their life expectancy). I contracted with Performance Solar to replace the solar system for my in ground pool. The Sales person we nice and seemed to be knowledgeable and the installation was done when promised. That is where the good part ends. The new solar panels leaked and the drain valve was not installed. When contacting Performance Solar to resolve the issues, commitment to return calls or make repair visits we often not kept. When the system was finally "repaired", leaks continued and the drain was still not installed. It was only when I stopped payment and threatened legal action that the work was promptly and properly completed. Given my experience with Performance Solar, I am not able to recommend them. If you do decide to use them, be prepared for a frustrating experience. read more

The warranty is a joke. If you call they run 3 weeks out for any service call. They show up without calling or scheduling and then if you don't answer the door they charge you a service call. Then when they do show I have never had my system corrected properly and I'm told its a "new issue". Then they charge you again...it goes on and no. They won't give you an invoice and just run a credit card on file...don't give it. read more

I am quite surprised to see an average of only three stars given to this company from past reviews. My experiences with them deserve five stars, based on the expertise of the employees who have serviced our pool solar system, their prompt response to any issues, and fair prices. Their service employee "Hugo" is very knowledgeable with our new, somewhat complex Pentair controller, and in our most recent service, he immediately diagnosed a mysterious "chirping" sound that turned out to be caused by a very small leak in the "return to the roof" pipe, that he then fixed. They installed the original system in 2009, and based on our satisfaction with their service and prices, I see no reason to use another company for our future service needs. These guys should be stopped by the department of consumer affairs. They sold me an expensive pool heating solar system (about 10k) to "save money on gas and be greener". What a joke. What the idiots failed to mention is that by placing the panels on the roof the the roof would be completely ruined. In addition because of the distance from the pool and the height gain of the panels on the roof...the pool equipment was overpressured causing the pool filter to literally blow apart about 5 years after it was installed ($500). Even worse, they assured me mounting the panels on the roof would not ruin the roof (only 3 years old at the time). WRONG! The installation holes started leaking 3-4 years after the install. They came back out and charged me another $300 to tune up the system and stop the leaks. 1 year later all the original leaks started leaking again as well as 2 or 3 new ones. The inside of my nice wood roof is completely ruined. Now I have to look at 1) moving the panels off the roof, 2)replacing the roof, and 3) replacing/reparing the interior WOOD ceiling. If I am lucky the cost of doing the above 3 things will be about 20,000 but could be more. So if you add that 20k to the original 10k, your at about 30k to save on cheap natural gas? These guys have cost me more than half the cost of the original pool. These guys are total ripoffs do not do business with them they have no idea what they are doing. read more

Although I had a safety issue with my solar panals they said they couldn't set up an appt but someone come out in the next seven days and that they would call me the day before. After I heard nothing for seven days I called them..."oh, we don't work on weekends so they don't count.." ! Used these guys for 6 years after they installed our system. Everytime we have them out for a seasonal service call there is always something broken. Funny thing is its the same part "the valve". Its been explained to me that there is more than one, but if they are using parts that fail that often it seems like they would switch to another manufacturer. I questioned whether or there is a warranty on these valves and my bill was all of a sudden adjusted to "only" $268. Paying at least $250-300 twice year to service their equipment finally made try another company. So long Performance Solar and good riddance. read more

I'm so thankful that I decided to go with Performance Solar to heat my pool and spa back in 2005. The solar system has worked great all of these years and really has allowed us to use the pool from May to October, even in April some seasons. The temperature in the pool can get over 88 degrees and the spa easily gets over 104 in a short time. I had a 12 year warranty that lasted until 2017. I just noticed a small leak coming from one panel, so I called the office to see what they could do. Paula has been handling customer service for many years and was able to offer me some reasonable solutions. She had Hugo out the very next day. He's also very friendly and called me 30 minutes before arriving. Hugo was able to find the leak and plug the one tube in about 15 minutes. My panels are almost 13 years old, but they are still working perfect and overall are in great condition. I'm very pleased with Paula and Hugo for fixing the trouble so quickly and I would definitely recommend Performance Solar for anyone looking to save money by heating with the sun. read more

Performance Solar just finished installing a system on our San Marcos home and we couldn't be more pleased with every step of the process. Dennis and his team patiently walked us through every aspect of switching to solar from a sound electric use assessment, to design and capacity issues, to our HOA, taxes etc. We are new to solar and had lots of questions, which were not only answered, but answered with evidence and examples that clearly showed that we were being treated fairly and truly getting a system that met our needs. It is great to work with a company that over time earns your trust. The install crew was tremendously professional, timely and courteous -- they worked around my schedule and were very considerate of my dog and kids. We were having solar electric installed on our roof and needed to have our old solar pool system removed. Our installer (ASI) recommended we call Performance Solar - we called them and they were able to come out within 48 hours and remove the old system. Then, following the completion of the solar electric install we shopped for a company to install a new solar pool system; after speaking with three other providers we selected Performance Solar. They provided an easy to understand and clear proposal. The install was completed very well and on schedule. We had a few system hiccups immediately after install, but Dennis either talked me through resolving them over the phone, or came out himself to fix them. Given that we were beyond our original warranty and had some issues that needed repair, Dennis showed us how installing a new system which includes a new long term warranty was a better financial decision than paying for repairs on a 14 year old system. We have been customers for many years and Performance Solar installed a new system about a year ago. Had a problem when the solar was turned-on recently that the temperature was well below the expected. Made a call an requested someone come to check for the problem. First you think of a bad sensor, and Hugo and Cody checked determining the sensor was not working. A replacement was installed but that didn't solve the problem. They thought it could be the control box which is quite costly to replace. Hugo first wanted to check the wire from the control box to the sensor. Fortunately that was the problem. He showed me where the wire had a bad spot likely from when initially installed many years ago. We appreciated Hugo's problem solving and quick replacement of the wire. More to come. Hugo and Cody left and just got out of the driveway when I noticed a great deal of water flowing off the roof. I turned the water off to the solar system and made a call to Performance Solar who contacted them. Returning in a few minutes they were on the roof to fix the problem. They had not caused the problem, it was related to the initial installation of the new system and it took time to be a problem. They then checked the entire system and made certain all bolts were tight. The pool water is getting up to temperature and all seems just fine. Glad to have good service from Performance Solar and Hugo the expert to provide the service. read more

We needed maintenance on our 8-year-old pool solar system. Performance Solar's communication was excellent from scheduling to service. The field technician, Hugo, was on time, efficient, and knowledgeable. He replaced leaking ABS piping with PVC, replaced worn o-rings, and assessed that the rooftop panels still had several years service remaining. Very happy with service overall, but I thought fees were a bit pricey. read more

Performance Solar will charge you for any type of service, warranty or not!. I had Performance Solar instal the solar panels in '05. I called Performance Solar once in '06 because the system was not heating my pool. Performance Solar came out and simply flipped a switch and then tried to charge me $127.50! There are zero visits from this company that are covered under the warranty so read your contract closely. Oh, and they won't tell you that either. So now in 2012 I call them to come out and fix my panels because they have cracked and leak water. The panels are under warranty so I'm assuming a free visit? No way, regardless if its under warranty or not, they charge $127.50. So once the Performance Solar service person gets here he informs me that 2 panels need to be replaced but the clamps that hold the panels to the PVC pipes are not under warranty and needs to charge $50 per panel, $100 total. The same clamps cost $1.50 at Home Depot. Again, there was no mention of this charge and the clamps are the only part holding the solar panels to the the PVC piping. It even says in the Warranty that "......replacement of parts is included" But I guess this does not mean the $1.50 clamp that they charge $50 for. I DO NOT recommend Performance Solar out of Escondido. Read your contract, they will charge you for anything they can. read more
