Strictly BMW! This shop does everything from maintenance, street or track needs. I've been looking for a shop in the Bay Area to take my E90 335xi to and I've found the place! My E90 is my daily driver and I've got a long commute so the miles rack up. The maintenance has got to be up to date. So far I've had the front brakes serviced and oil change done. The service is fast and the techs know what they're doing. They even plugged in my car to try and pull codes for me when I mentioned my gears were slipping. I will be returning for more service on my car and to have the walnut blasting done. Performance technic has got a clean shop and a bevy of awesome BMW's in the lot and shop. Honest Review: Having been to over 4 different performance shops from Campbell, Palo Alto, San Jose up till Dublin, jeez, these are the men you need and I mean it. Not only will they carefully listen to your needs, your questions, whether dumb or smart, Brandon and his team will answer you as simple as possible and with detailed information. I probably called Brandon 8 times over the course of two days about the vehicle and not once did he sound annoyed, but continued to help me with excitement. Any work you need, these are your guys, seriously. Pay the extra money if it costs (they are equal to other shops btw price wise), because they go out of their way to perform things on your car that they see wrong and will do it out of gratitude as they are performing whatever job you needed. I must say this is THE best place to get your BMW serviced. They know their stuff. They used to be in Pleasanton and Dublin, I now drive to Fremont to see these guys. Brandon is very knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of my questions. I usually do all my my own work, as I don't trust the dealers and it's a thing I enjoy doing. I brought my 330ci in for a rear sub-frame reinforcement, all the rear bushing replacement along with transmission mount replacement, Guibo and driveshaft CV. Brandon said he could get it out in 2 days, maybe 1. They found cracks. :( Thankfully before it completely tore itself apart. They got my car repaired and out to me same day! They aligned and setup my suspension for track/street. Now here's what's awesome about them aside from them being really cool and awesome to work with. I brought in a set of trans mounts that I didn't know were for racing only. When I got my car back, there was horrible Noise, Vibration and Harshness due to these mounts. So I ordered an OEM set expecting them to charge me for the install or just hand me the parts and I would install them myself. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered to put them in for me at no additional cost. It only took 15 min. A dealership would usually not offer to help their clients without cost. Not all, but usually. You should bring your beloved BMW to this shop for all your Bimmer needs. They are the best full service Indy shop I have had the pleasure to work with. read more

Can not say enough about this shop. Exceptional workmanship and friendly staff that really know what they are doing and aren't out to screw over the customer. I own a 2003 BMW E46 M3 coupe and just had my subframe reinforced using the Turner Motorsport plates with all new rear subframe and front diff bushings. I also had them replace my driveshaft guibo, center support bearing, as well as the steering coupler on the rack while they were in there. My car drives like a dream and I can't say enough positive things about the work Matt does. I had my car diagnosed for a bad center support bearing by another BMW performance shop in the area who couldn't even find the issue after having my car for a day. Ptech confirmed my issue right away when I had them replace the part. I highly recommend this shop to anyone in the Bay Area. Joe offers incredibly competitive and reasonable rates and is very honest. Performance Technic will be the only shop my car sees from here on out for any kind of extensive work I can't do myself. read more

My 328ci had a code for an EVAP Emission Control LDP Circuit Malfunction. I worked to find the cause for 6 months. Finally gave up and took it to these guys. They tell me it's an issue with the 3/2 way valve. They charge me $400 to do it... not a bad price if it will fix the problem. The code popped up again the next day. I take it back in and they say now it's an issue with the Charcoal canister and want to charge another $500. If I wanted to throw parts at it, I'd do it myself! I doubt they ran a smoke test or checked a single vacuum hose... just ran the BMW scanner and decided the fault code just meant the most expensive part was broken. They also told me that BOTH rear trailing arms were cracking... no they weren't. But at $750 a pop (just for the parts), I bet they wish they were! read more

I own a 2003 BMW M3 and had the crew at Performance Technic do my SMG to 6MT swap. I read online that these guys were the place to go, so I sent them an email and Brandon responded and suggested I stop by the shop and discuss. Long story short, we scheduled the work to be done the following week. I dropped the car off on Tuesday and picked it up the following Wednesday. This car is a true M3 now! These guys are the real deal, top notch service for any BMW owners in the Bay Area. I got my 2003 M3 diagnosed for a dreaded SMG issue at their previous location. (before they moved) Ernesto was exceptionally helpful when I contacted them, and although they were moving, he still managed to get me an opening to diagnose my SMG problems. My car had a rare issue in which it would delay shifts, which forced me to drive in limp mode. I went to have breakfast while getting it diagnosed, and in just an hour they found the problem. Joe and Wing were very knowledgable and experienced, as they managed to isolate the problem that my car was having. It turned out that my actuator (hydraulic mechanism) had failed, and they even informed me how many times this part has failed in my car. Wow, right! Ernesto informed me that the repair was expensive and not very cost-effective nor logical if I was going to keep the car. He mentioned to me that although SMG transmissions are great, they are notorious for being prone to constant problems and repairs. He then suggested that for almost the same price, I could get the 6MT swap, which would not only fix my car's problem, but also give me the real feel for the E46 M3. I thought it over and after agreeing to his suggestion, he scheduled me an appointment a couple months down the line in order for me to get the money situated and such. When I brought the car in at their new shop, (amazing ambiance) and was truly impressed with their service. Along with the 6MT swap, Ernesto and the guys also recommend that I get some overdue maintenance that my M needed. They did my 6MT swap, (new clutch included) and installed a new flywheel which is not included - but I was informed that there was much play in the plates so that it needed to be replaced asap. Maintenance List: 6mt swap, clutch, flywheel, RTABs, engine clamps, (which were previously done incorrectly with wrong clamps) new 15mm spacers, and they also installed my new ST coilover suspension (My suspension was previously incorrectly installed and they did an amazing job correctly installing the suspension with new rear shock mounts as well). I am more than enthusiastic about my experience at Performance Technic. My 6MT transmission feels and looks OEM, as if the car had came out the factory like this. The new transmission and much needed maintenance gives the car an amazing feel and truly a sheer driving pleasure. I am extremely thrilled with how my M drives and even more ecstatic with Performance Technic's service and professionalism. I recommend them to any BMW and especially M owners out there in the Bay Area seeking legit, bespoke BMW service and performance specialists. I contacted Brandon about two weeks ago about an estimate to install some parts and I had yet to hear back from him the following week so I tried to leave a vm with one of the owners named Joe. Anyway this week comes around and I call them first thing in the morning asking to speak to Joe and the receptionist says that he isn't available. Then I start telling her it was about an estimate that I contacted Brandon two weeks prior about and was still waiting to hear back. Needless to say, she eventually transferred me to Brandon who remembered who I was but didn't actually know what were the specifics of my request for estimate. To me that is unacceptable because it shows me a lack of follow through and customer service on their part. Whatever their reason is for not reaching out to me it seems painfully obvious that they are either too busy and they can't take any more work or my money isn't good with them. As a comparison, I had actually reached out to a higher volume shop the other week with the exact same request and they came back to me the next day with a complete estimate. Sometimes I don't get why the most simple things are so hard for people to do. Update: Joe, the owner has given me an honest effort of contacting me to make things good so I am upping the review to four stars and I will be updating once I receive the actual service. read more

I'm the type of person who's not easily pleased and being an ex-Marine, I am extremely critical of....well....everything. Just ask my wife and she'll tell you how much she dislikes that aspect of my personality. I first learned of Performance Technic from a software instructor during a lecture I attended years ago. This guy went on and on about a conversation he had with the owner Joe and how impressed he was with both the time and content of their chat. Having a first generation 335i, out of warranty and with a few modifications, I decided to give these folks a shot. That was several years ago and they have been nothing short of stellar with all the work they have performed for me. From oil changes to a custom M3 frontend to a Dinan cold air induction system. However, it was the most recent job they performed that prompted me to write this review. I had been getting an host of Engine Malfunctions that I learned were the result of a failing turbo system. I called Brandon and within an hour or so, had a solution and a price to fix the car. Over and above the turbo issue, I had ongoing issues with faulty taillights, both left and right. Another dealer, who shall remain nameless, had tried and failed to resolve the problem. Brandon told me about a BMW bulletin that suggested a remedy for this issue and included that work along with turbo replacements. I picked the car up a week or so ago and must admit, I am extremely pleased with it's performance. A while back I had installed the Dinan Stage-2 SW upgrade and I just can't recall the last time my 335 performed like it does now. Great. My wife and I traveled from Bend Or, going to San Diego for a wedding when on the freeway our BMW X5 had an engine symbol come up. We stopped, and found the engine was running smoothly at idle, but not when we accelerated. We stopped to visit my daughter in Livermore, and my son in law suggested this shop. They took us right in as an emergency and diagnosed and replaced two of the 8 coils. Took about 3 hours while we waited. Billing couldn't have been any more reasonable. My husband has been looking for a solution to his SMG transmission issue with his 2004 M3 E46 for a while now. About a year ago we started noticing issues with the transmission and started thinking about a solution to this problem. After he read a few articles online and talked to a few reputable shops in our area we decided to make an appointment with performance technics to convert our SMG transmission to a 6 speed manual. I own an old BMW 2000 M Roadster that needed its subframe reinforced. I also wanted to use the kit designed by Randy Forbes. I spoke directly with Randy asking who in California would be the best for his subframe reinforcement kit - he told me Performance Technic. Following Randy's advice I had my car towed from San Jose, CA to their shop. It was around the 4th of July 2013 and very hot - but they did the work ultra fast. This is a lot of fabrication work involving modification, welding and painting, but they got my car back to me in just a few days. The work was excellent and I've been having a blast driving my car ever since. I only wish I lived a lot closer for regular maintenance. read more

The first contact on the phone was richly informative and setting up an appointment was easy. They took care of ordering all the Dinan parts. Brandon is not only extremely knowledgeable about all technical aspects of their BMW services but very courteous and professional. This place has a dedicated room I was able to do work while connected to WiFi during the service. No need what so ever to have to be driven back and forth anywhere. They performed the complex installs while I worked. They thoroughly tested the changes and brought out my new super car without the slightest smudge on it. Hands down the best shop to take your BMW to. The shop is very clean and ordered as well as staffed by an awesome staff. Everyone is very polite and knowledgeable about BMWs, and best of all, they're all really honest. If the building and staff weren't enough, their pricing is very fair as well. There has been no other shop I have visited that has given the same level of awesome service as PT. About my last trip, I had to have a clutch replaced. So I set up an appointment with them and brought the car in. Essentially as soon as the keys were passed off to the desk person they began work on the car. While I was waiting for someone to come by to pick me up I waited in the front office. Again, a very clean and comfortable place to be, with the usual amenities you find with an automotive service place. While waiting one of the guys came in and said he had some news on my repair. Often never a good sign, he walked me over to show me I had an issue with my flywheel as well and recommended I replaced it. Though before the recommendation of replacement, we also discussed refinishing the flywheel and leaving it in the car. After some discussion we decided to replace it. I have to say, while additional costs to a repair are never fun, they made it the most enjoyable and easy it could possibly be. The even better part came as they had quoted me an end of day completion of the repair, and it was actually done a fair bit earlier. So overall, clean and organized shop, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great pricing, and awesome turn around time. Seriously, if you have a BMW, there is no where else you should be taking your car. Heck, I drive from the North Bay just to come here. Best shop ever! read more
