I decided to not listed to the hate and give this shop a try because of their JDM background and the fact that they state they are the biggest Ohlins distributors in the state. I gave them a set of Ohlins for my GR Corolla to get revalued and get new springs dropped in. Chris the front desk guy first told me it would be about a week or two, which was understandable as it was about 2 weeks before thanksgiving when I dropped them off. I decided to call after two weeks, and Chris told me another two weeks as the valving lab was "backed up due to the holidays". Understandable. So I gave them another two weeks, again I had to call. This time I spoke to Heath who seems to be the only person there who actually cares about their job. He explained to me that the Ohlins R&T kit that I brought them had parts they had never seen before, however they sell a long stroke revalved Ohlins R&T kit for the GRC on their website. He went on to explain that they would need to build a custom dampening curve for my shocks specifically which could take up to another whole week of work. At this point I wanted my shocks back so I told him do what you can with the rears and put my fronts back together. He agreed and I waited a couple days before calling again. 2 days later I called to find out what they are doing. To my surprise Heath takes the phone and tells me that he personally did all the work on building me a dampening curve for my fronts and revalved them magically even with the parts that they didn't have and have never seen before. He told me come tomorrow to pick them up. Finally I'm at the shop to pick up my revalved shocks. They explained everything again in person and had two of their shop techs bring my boxes into my trunk. As I'm about to leave I decide to check what's in the boxes. Good thing I did because after removing everything in the boxes, I found that they didn't give me the stock Ohlins springs that I gave them, and furthermore I didn't notice at the time because my fronts were assembled but they didn't give me the factory top hat parts and washers either, which made it even more fun later on. After trying my best to prove to them I didn't "hide" the springs in my car, and having both techs and Chris come look in my car and boxes, they finally brought them out of the back and said "I swear we put them in your boxes". I was so pissed I just took them and drove off. Again without realizing I'm missing install parts and other factory parts that I gave them when dropping the shocks off. The next day I go to install these shocks. Front go in fine no problems. Then I get to the tears and notice I'm missing 4, yes FOUR spacers that I need in order to install the rear shocks. Not only that but they also failed to give me extended bolts needed to install their in house designed top hats. Left my car on jack stands because it was a weekend, and waited till Monday to call again. Asked specifically for Heath, and told him that I'm missing all the tool hat parts and others. I even admitted that I don't remember if I gave them those 4 spacers but if they have them or can order them I'd love to pay. Immediately he says he can't order them, in my head I'm thinking how can a shop advertising themselves as the largest Ohlins distributor not order spare parts or have them in stock. I told him to look around and give me a call back. Later that day he called me back and told me he found all my stock parts including bolts that were not included in the kit I purchased from them. Overall, this shop seems like it needs to get their stuff together. Keeping my parts from me, not providing hardware for their own proprietary top hat kit, and lying to customers. Heath seems like the only one there who actually cares but seems to keep up the lies of his coworkers. Do not go to this shop unless you want a massive headache read more

I don't usually leave reviews but I have to share my experience I had with Sakebomb Garage/ Miataspeed. It seems like other clients they had are also noticing the lack of quality service. I'm only sharing my experience, yours may vary. I brought my NB Miata here in May 2023 to get a turbo kit system installed and tuned. Their portfolio online and social media made me feel that I was in the right hands. I made an appointment a month in advance, on the day of the appointment, it was cancelled and moved 2 weeks later. They said they were short staffed and can't get cars done on time. I had no other choice but to agree, things happen. Dropped the car off, was told their "work" would be covered under warranty. Car would be done by the end of next week. They called on the day of expected pickup, and said it would be delayed for another week or two, short staffed etc etc. Car was ready for pickup. Spent $4,200 for labor and tune. (Tune was $1,300). WOOHOO turbo miata! The following week I took it to Thunderhill for a track day. I did an inspection to make sure I was good to go. Tune was a little wonky, cold and hot starts the car would completely stall, with or without AC running. MS3PRO ecu. Coolant tank was empty, and turbo water line burnt from contact with exhaust manifold. Easy fix, and besides.... WOOHOO TURBO MIATA!! One morning session was all it took for things to go wrong. Exhaust leak, loss of power. Turns out the turbo to manifold and downpipe bolt/studs came loose. Tightened them and it came loose again second session. Turbo and downpipe were basically hanging on at that time. From all the restarting due to car stalling from tune. The car started having electrical issues. Starter gave out, ground wire melted away, flickering lights. Had to limp it back home. Turbo Miata things I guess? Made an appointment to bring the car in the following week. Charged $600 for labor, install starter, new ground wire, and install Stage 8 hardware. No manifold bolts hardware installed, only downpipe, because it had to be completely disassembled to get to it. They said it would hold up. I asked why this wasn't covered under warranty or if the tune can be tweaked, they said "it's a common issue with turbo Miatas"... Either way.. Back on the road. WOOHOO turbo Miata! Over the course of a couple months and track days. Constant issues with hardware coming loose on the manifold. Tighten only for it to come loose again. Having to leave track days after 2 or less sessions, I was pretty much over the turbo miata thing. I decided to contact Sakebomb for what my options are from preventing the hardware coming loose. Locking hardware all around, kit will need to be disassembled. $1,000 for labor. Ouch. I looked at it as an investment at this point. Got the car, drove home. Took a look at the locking hardware, one of them was loose! I contacted them about the issue before heading down to SoCal for track events. I went over to the shop, the tech took a look and just shrugged his shoulders and said they can't do anything about it. Will have to schedule another appointment. "It's a common thing with turbo Miatas". Fast forward to now, again with constant loosening of the hardware, blown gaskets, crazy AFR fluctuations. I decided to contact them again. Took days for a response, phones don't answer. I messaged them through their text message system. I told them the issue, asked for them to make it right or provide a refund for the $1,000 spent. This is where things get juicy. They weren't too happy with the message. These are bits of their response. "This is a common problem with this kit and application" "We installed the parts you provided correct" "You can kindly take your business elsewhere at this point" "Probably should have bought a more quality kit" Ouch... this was how I was treated after spending almost $6,000 in labor at this establishment. My whole point of this review is to share my experience dealing with this shop. Lack of communication, compassion, and professionalism. This shop has a great reputation online and in the forums. However I think that was a thing of the past. There's no way that this kind of service is acceptable to the Mazda community in 2024. They are a busy shop, people still take their cars there. I just think it gets to a point where they're so busy, they don't care about providing excellent service to boost business. I hope the owner of this shop can realize their clients aren't satisfied with the service they provide. Hire more competent employees, so the workload and environment will be less stressful for them, which in turn would be better customer satisfaction. read more

I did not have a good experience with Sakebomb at all. When trying to schedule for a diagnosis i had to constantly follow up. I explained the issues i was having, in detail, even told them its going to at least need head work. I was assured that that they could take care of it. I finally got to scheduling a drop off date for my vehicle, about a month away. I had the vehicle towed there in the AM. Later that day I received a call and was told that the leak-down test failed (this was expected for me), so come pickup the car. I was confused as to why i would have to come pick up the car and was told "We don't have time or space to work on it. We don't build motors here" Okay...? Why did you take in my car, even after describing what the issues were and what it needed if you didn't have time or space?? i asked them what is their diagnosis and they said they would have to do more work, but at another time. They charged for the diagnostic and when i tried to follow up, numerous times, to get the vehicle repaired and to voice my frustration, i didnt hear from them for over a month. I chalked it up to a loss and what i would consider a "hit and run". Couple hundred bucks down the drain. STAY AWAY. read more

They were able to diagnosis and solve the issue immediately and advise me what was wrong with my car. Great customer service and quick responses, easy to work with in regards to scheduling. After purchasing my FD RX7 from the prior owner, first stop to baseline the car was to drop it off to Heath and the team at SakeBomb who are ROTARY SPECIALISTS (the few left in the greater Bay Area). They were very detailed about the configuration and willing to provide me with the options based on my customized goals of decent power maintaining reliability. More importantly, the honesty and integrity this shop has is worth every dollar. Given they were going deep in to the engine to fix a leak, they decreased the charge of labor since they were already in there. Bonus is they have a dyno and tuned the FD with PowerFC given all the reliability mods that were in place It's been 2 years and the car has been running smooth and more importantly reliably! I have a few cars, but my recent pride and joy is my Miata. I messaged David via Yelp, and eventually got his number and set up a day to do an install on a front lip and a short ram intake. We were able to set up the appointment quickly. I met Christian at the shop and he was quick to take my car in and let me get to work. I have taken my ND miata there a couple of times within the past year. The first was to do a transmission swap and seemed to be all good and nothing wrong besides the short shifter I had installed on the car was not completely tightened down. Not a huge deal, just tightened it down myself. The most recent time I took my car there, not too long ago, I went to them to replace my throwout bearing. The job seemed good at the time until recently. First off, I work down the street from them and they claimed a five hour job. I drove past around 3.5 hours to 4 hours after I dropped my car off and was just sitting in the front of the shop. Texted them and said that it is almost done and that I can come around the 5th hour after I dropped the car off. Assuming that they would only charge me for the labor that it actually took, but they charged me for the full 5 hours claimed when it was sitting there untouched for at least a full hour. Secondly, I went to pull my transmission myself this time and do the clutch but when doing so I was missing a large amount of bolts. ALL 5 transmission bolts on the top side of the transmission were missing, one of my started bolts was missing, my oil pan cover was missing over half of its bolts. As well as a large amount of non torqued, loose bolts that are drive line related. Things like the trans brace and the drive shaft bolts were looser then they should be. Finishing the job in 3-4 hours and leaving my car half put back together is not how a shop should be in my opinion. I would much rather recommend some of you guys to go elsewhere like miatachopshop which is a individual that does great work at a great price. read more

There were some parts they could have mentioned I should have before my install was started and I had to go back multiple times to resolve some issues. Trusted them with the first service of a new-to-me 2005 AP2 Honda S2000. They were so thorough---that they found things the delivery dealership had missed in 2005 (car only had 11,000 miles on it). In addition to all the fluids, filters, and lubes, they arranged for a ceramic coat detail. Car looks like it rolled off the showroom floor yesterday--maybe better than that. Superb, highly communicative, detailed, and deeply knowledgeable about Japanese cars of this era and after. I had to travel over an hour to get there. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. read more

I ordered a set of Ohlins long stroke coilovers from Sakebomb Garage for my Miata NC and had a terrible experience mainly because of disingenuous product advertising, irratic, and off point technical support, and poor customer service. I paid extra for product assembly but when the product finally arrived after 6 weeks instead of 2-3, only the front coils were assembled. I was then told they didn't supply the pillowtop hats for the rear coils and I would have to remove those myself from the existing coils on my vehicle and use those to complete product assembly despite the fact that they clearly advertised that the rear coils came with this part and even showed a picture of a fully assembled product on their web page. They offered to complete assembly after I removed my existing rear coils and provide them those OEM parts but this was obviously not what I had expected and I completed assembly on my own. I had also paid extra for aluminum forks for the front coils but these were not provided. The company sent me a set of Aurora spherical bearings for the rear coils instead since I had to build the coil myself but after installing I found these made my street driven Miata sound like a tank, so I removed them. Finally, Sakebomb is licensed by Ohlins to modify their products, hence the longer rear coils' piston length, which is well and good but the company forgot to mention in their advertising that the modifications made to lengthen the piston also eliminated the ability to adjust the coilovers' height while installed on the car. The very reason many customers buy coilovers to begin with is to adjust vehicle ride height. This feature of Sakebomb's redesigned Ohlins coilovers was not made clear in product advertising. Another feature of the redesign was that the longer coils lose the ability to work with extenders, another key feature that many customers would want to know before purchasing this product. Finally, the product came with poorly copied assembly instructions passed on from the original manufacturer and in a box marked for another vehicle. Worse the instructions for the rear coils were for the original unmodified Ohlins product, not the Sakebomb redesign. Throughout my experience, despite promises of great aftersale support, I found it difficult to reach anyone by phone and texting for technical support got responses from various technicians who were not familiar with my issues and gave conflicting advice when they bothered to respond at all. Clearly, Sakebomb Garage is a company in need of better management. read more

There's really only two garages in the Bay Area for my car that people really gravitate towards and by far Heath and Chris were the ones I was comfortable let work on my car. Professional super knowledgeable and never had a slick salesman vibe when recommending products (upgrading cars is a slippery slope, but I never felt like they would push me). I went through SakeBomb Garage to buy my Ohlins and their custom low profile mounting forks for the Ohlins they make to replace the original Ohlins fork. After doing a bit of research on the garage and all the custom work they did with Ohlins and positive reviews they had backing them up on multiple forums, I pulled the trigger. They helped me through all of my very specific technical questions for what I wanted to do and how I'd achieve it. All the little bits of upgrading springs/and spring rates, the custom forks, and they also included the service of calculating all the specifics of how much preload and measurements of where to set the shock for the height I wanted. I received all my products quickly and well packaged. The staff kept me up to date with my order and were so amazingly helpful with all my questions and concerns. Even after a few weeks of the install and already owning the products, I had a few more questions and they happily helped me with any adjustments or issues I had (honestly had no issues). All and all great company, amazing staff and great products and support for what they sell and make themselves. Definitely going back to them for a few more things! read more

Went to SakeBomb Garage prep my Honda S2000 for a track-day. They did an alignment, corner balance, brake bleed and fluid flush. Pricing was competitive for the quality of service but this is not a chain alignment store they do custom alignments so don't expect a $79 4-wheel alignment. They are experts at track S2000s, RX-7s and Miatas and knew exactly what alignment specs to set my car up based on my modifications. Car drove better than ever and tire wear was spot on. Only thing is they are appointment only and fill up a week or so out so make sure to call to make an appoitment Will be back for all of track prep and maintenance needs. read more

I brought my 94 rx7 to them for regular maintenance. Upon servicing they noticed that one of my coils went bad and that the ground wire was fired. They replaced all necessary equipment and not the car is running back to 100%. They are honest and true. Very professional and knowledgeable.
