On our way home from Medina. We stopped to get a bite to eat. Midday not many customers. Interior was nice and clean. We were hangry and ready to eat. We were seated and waited on right away. I got the country fried steak which hit the spot. The edges were a little extra crispy but I'm not complaining the flavor was good. Hubby got a sandwich which was good. Best club sandwich anywhere! Located on the edge of Amish country, it seems like they always have good tomatoes and fresh carved turkey. I've eaten here 10 times over 2 years and always get the same thing. Service can be a bit hit or miss but have never had totally bad service. I haven't been to a Perkins in years, but I was hungry and this one is located by Grandpa's Cheese barn, so I thought it was a decent stop on my way to Youngstown. It was relatively busy on a Friday afternoon, but the service was quick. THey have a really extensive menu, but it was hard to find a vegetarian, or even bacon free option. I had wanted breakfast, but they didn't offer anything that I could find that din't include bacon or pork sausage. For lunch, even the chicken sandwiches had bacon. I went with fish and chips and was plesantly surprised, particularly because it was about $12. The portion was really generous and both the fish and the chips were hot and crispy. The salad was mediocre - kind of meh iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, stale-ish croutons. Maybe not the greatest option, but I had a decent meal at a good price. i hate to write a bad review but my cheeseburger was so greasy i had to try to soak it up with napkins. it did not taste good but i didn't complain. the french fries were too salty too. my daughter ordered the salmon and wasnt eating it so we got a to go box. as i was putting it in the box i noticed a chunk of salmon with a green spot. she said that was why she wasnt eating it. i looked closer and it was not seasoning it was something deep embedded that was green. i worried it was rotten and asked the waitress to look at it. she took it to the manager and he said he didn't know what it was. no offer to take it off the bill, no apologies. then our waitress Jackie was very nice she said she would go back to the manager and ask if he would adjust our bill after i said i would not let her eat the rest now that i was concerned it was rotten fish. he took $5 off the bill. it was a $16 meal served with 4 asparagus, salty fries and rotten salmon that my daughter did not eat and thats all we got. i will not eat there again. we don't have many choices in our area but this was a game changer. serving rotten food that could harm my kid then no apology and only a $5 discount? disgusting. i will never trust their food again, never going back. read more

Dear kids running the kitchen: everyone in the dining room can hear you yelling about how great you think you are at your job. It really sets the atmosphere when all your customers can hear you making fun of their order while you cook it. I watched 3 tables take 3 bites of their meal before giving up and leaving. Probably had something to do with all the negativity we could all hear you were putting into your work. Food was ok, but nobody cares that you think you're good enough at your job that you could be the Restaurant Manager. It really made for an unwelcome experience. read more

I stopped here this afternoon while driving from Akron Ohio on to Lima Ohio, and needing some fuel for my body, I decided to turn in off the highway and give this restaurant a chance. I had breakfast rather than lunch, and it was good. The restaurant is considerably smaller than other Perkins that i have been in. It took some time to place my order, and while the GM walked around chatting with friends, he never came to my table even while noticing me siting there...waiting for anyone. Not sure what it would take for this restaurant to achieve 5 stars as they are limited to the building they have, its location next to the gas station, and the broken up asphalt parking lot.....possibly modernizing the dining room a bit, newer fixtures, carpeting etc. read more

Forgot the salad; we had to call her back to remind her. Waitress never came back to see if we needed anything else. Kids had wanted dessert; we gave up waiting for her and decided to go next door to the chocolate store, instead. Stood WITH OUR COATS ON, at the table, for 5 minutes, waiting for the check. It's a chain so of course YMMV, but we had very good food and very good service and paid $31 plus tip for dinner for 3. We've been here a few times and so far all good experiences. Recommend the chipotle chicken skillet and of course the pancakes. read more

The business was remodeled and is very nice looking. Food is average priced but more importantly is very good. Portions are the right amount. Staff has always treated us with smile and positive manner. As noticed in all local restaurants the staff is a little understaffed where some are performing double duty. Growing up in Ashland, I've accumulated fond memories of Perkins. My family birthday parties used to be here. My favorite meal when eating out was a short stack, specifically from Perkins. How can you beat fried cake covered in syrup? But decades later, I see things pretty differently. The food actually isn't bad and the waitstaff is pleasant, but there are specific issues that need addressed. First of all, make sure you have several hours free. At least 20-30 minutes have passed by the time my family's order is taken. We don't typically get our food in under an hour of being there. I simply cannot think of a slower restaurant experience in my life and it happens literally every time. Secondly, they have major iron and sulfur problems. Their water supply is awful and they don't keep up with their filtration. Every beverage except juice and milk smells like farts and tastes like eggs. The bathroom smells like a sewage treatment plant. Nostalgia and tasty pancakes usually can't outweigh the negatives for me. read more

My friends had pancakes, which they liked, but everything else they said, "tasted like metal". If you are on the road and want a average meal, eat here but overall not my favorite place. read more

They used to have the greatest gigantic bread bowl salads I've ever had, but they've either disappeared or been relegated to "only in the know" part of the menu. Took a little road trip with the family. The choices to eat at where we were was limited to fast food and a Perkins. We gave Perkins a shot. Daughter got her usual Bacon Cheeseburger. Wife got a chicken salad (and it was HUGE). They both enjoyed their meals. Neither had any complaints. I ordered the Grilled chicken breast with mushrooms and asparagus. The chicken was cooked good. Had a nice flavor from the vinaigrette sauce it was covered in. The mushrooms were good size and tasty. The asparagus was way over cooked. I couldn't even cut it, it would just turn to mush when ever i tried. They were pretty much inedible. The server was VERY polite and fast. Brought our food out quick and refilled beverages often. Stop a lot at Perkins when on the road, some are better than others, usually the food is the same quality, pretty good for the price, this one was pretty clean, staff was friendly, although we waited a bit to get seated even though it wasn't busy, after being seated we were waited on immediately drinks quickly arrived, ordered and the salad soon followed , dinner right after salad, nice. All in all an enjoyable dinner. Also offer a military & veterans discount, very nice. read more

Hubby and I stopped in for Saturday evening supper at this Perkins. The staff was all very friendly despite the dining room being full. I ordered the Cajun seasoned salmon with steamed broccoli and fries. It was very good. My hubby's salad looked very yummy as well. Unfortunately this place has gone really down hill! I have been going to this place since the early 70's. Even though it is really run down inside for a long time, we have still always gotten good consistent food and always good service. But, as other people have noted, they have hit a new low. Ugh. What a terrible experience. We went in and ordered two sandwiches for take out. Sat around for over 30 minutes waiting for our takeout order. No one even let us know that they were backed up. I have eaten at Perkins off and on for years. Now we live here (Mansfield) and we will only go there for breakfast. Loved their holiday pumpkin pancake special. Have recently come here twice for dinner and won't do it again. Service is pretty good though. Hate to see a "staple" restaurant in my home town go downhill like this one has. Questionable food, nobody ate their eggs and someone's tater tots were still frozen. One of three light bulbs working in the light above our table w/ the wiring housing dangling precariously from it. I heard a patron at another table say very loudly to a manager "should he be touching the food w/ his hands?" (she could see into the kitchen from her seat.) For some reason it is always busy (likely the proximity to the interstate), so plan to wait ~10min for a table. It really isn't worth the wait, but by the time you get there and park you are committed right? The standard family restaurant menu fair that is portion controlled and average priced. They do have nice salads and the cookies are amazing. We order take-out from here for work and they always add cookies. I have had mostly bad experiences here. The last one being that I ordered a grilled chicken salad. The greens were questionable, the chicken was cold, despite grill marks. I complained, which I rarely do. When I told our waitress the chicken was cold she said she thought it was supposed to be cold. No it wasn't. It was supposed to be grilled, hot chicken. She just didn't have time to remedy the issue I guess. Just a dirty looking place! Our table was below an absolutely filtyh air vent which was black with lord knows what stuck to it. The light above our table was missing a lightbulb so there was an open electrical outlet without a cover ot bulb. The mens bathroom was disgusting, it smelled bad, the commode was dirty, there was urine all over the floor, smashed tiles, and just nasty. Food was typical microwaved, dry, over salted. Good for breakfast or a quick dinner. Place needs updated badly but food is good. Good ol fashion comfort food. They are known for their pancakes, muffins, and pies. Tremendous twelve is a lot of food for breakfast and can be shared with yourself and 20 of your closest friends. Most servers here are friendly but some are not enthusiastic about their job. Yes restrooms do smell really bad but lots of people from the interstate come in and use them without sitting and eating. That's a lot to keep up with. Overall good food. read more
