I love coming for breakfast. Today I came with my daughter and her girlfriend. Took them for pancakes after a workout. Walked in and two young ladies were at the counter. When they saw us, the one with the darker hair told the other what table. The other one said, I know. She walked us to the booth by the bathroom. I said I don't like sitting by the bathroom. May I have another booth? She had a slight attitude. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to the girls. She even got them extra paper to draw on. We all had pancakes. It's always good here and that why I come. I have to mention that Jacinta is always so nice. I know her name because she is that personable and so friendly. She talks to everyone and is so genuine. I love going here so much! The ambiance is nothing fancy but there is just a honey feel that keeps me coming back. I don't know if it's the smell of fresh baked goods or the regular presence of older adults as frequent diners there that makes it feel very homey to me. The food, the portions, and prices are very good. The service is absolutely great, again feels very homey. I have taken family there, went on breakfast dates with my husband, took friends, and even had my birthday breakfast there (complimentary)! I used to love Perkins omelets; they were made with real eggs (3), stuffeed with real cheese and choice of second item. Today, they are small, made with fake liquid eggs and look more like a crepe; the cheese inside is a spritz of fake cheese and there is a slice of cheese on top that usually isn't even melted. The price is the same as the original real omelet. So disappointing. I have tried this at three or four Perkins and they are all the same so this must be a corporate dictate. And, the photo of the "omelet" in their menus isn't anything like what you are served. read more

Each time my husband and I visit New York we eat at this location since our favorite location was closed and order our usual dozen muffins before heading home. I ordered a Spinach Omelet with cheddar cheese, onions, green peppers and mushrooms only to take a fork full and taste spoiled vegetables with a moldy taste. You get a choice of Pancakes, Muffin, or toast I chose a muffin. What an insult to have the price of the meal removed but charged for the muffin that would of been thrown out anyway. We were born and raised in Staten Island and grew up going to Perkins and never experienced such poor Customer Service from Management. I had already purchased a Dozen muffins so I know that they could not of thought that I returned their "Molded Vegetable Omelet" back to them to get one free. If they thought that they need to Get Real! On top of that the Waitress said quote "Oh we did not get any complaints from any other Customers in the Restaurant today". The caramel apple pie is a HIT!!!! Very tasty, the flavor is well blended. The crust is flaky tender and golden brown! When served warm it literally melts in your mouth! I also suggest topping it with a scoop of Vanilla bean ice cream the perfect combo! read more

First off, the food was very good. I got pancakes with fresh strawberries and the strawberries were delicious. None of that fake or jelly taste. The pancakes were soft and fluffy. The bacon and eggs were also cooked just the way I like them. The only reason I didn't give this place a better rating is because of the wait. Our waitress seemed to be serving us in a rush, but it was not that crowded. She walked up to our table holding another tables food and asked what we wanted to drink without even a hello. Plus there were no utensils to be found on the table. Then when it was time to get the check, we hadn't seen her since she took our food order, because someone else brought us our food. Went in yesterday between appointments Ordered the 55+ breakfast special along with a blueberry muffin The food was fine but the muffin needed to be baked a little more as it was very doughy and not good I pointed it to our server Brianna and she shrugged it off I'm not sure why I took a picture of it before the busboy took it away but I'm glad I did !! The ambiance of this place is like any other IHOP so nothing crazy good or bad. The service is very nice and fast which is very good if you're in a rush because the food is fast! The overall place I only recommend for breakfast otherwise the options are very limited. Overall they have very few veggie options for breakfast but absolutely none for lunch or dinner. I give this place one star for the simple reason. Me and friends walk in the lady at the front as soon we came in not even greeting us she just said we're about to close. It was 7:37pm and they were closing at 8pm. Disgusting customer service and the coffee that was given in pot not even hot. The customer service is great but there's just no reason to go here. It's Staten Island, so there are plenty of other places with affordable food, and there are plenty of other places that can give you a large amount of food, and there are plenty of other places that can give you tasty food. If you're desperate for pancakes, go and make some, because you in all likelihood will make them better than Perkins does. In fact literally everything that you can make is better than the food at Perkins as long as you have a really basic skillset for cooking. The service was excellent, my waitress I can't remember her name but if you go there she's a redhead, make sure you get seated with her. She's attentive and very informative of the menu. I had been to a Perkins in TN once before and thought it was good. So I was excited to see a location in Staten Island as I live in South Brooklyn. So decided to pay the toll for the Verrazano and take the family on Mothers day. Unfortunately my pancakes and french toast had an awful taste. It was like burnt oil or a kinda fishy taste. I suspect the griddle wasn't cleaned properly or something. It seemed particularly to be on the browned outside. The food was overall amazing. The steak was well done, the omelette was excellent. The pancakes were so fluffy and tasted so good. You can tell they really put effort in when making your food. Even after not being able to eat it all and heating it up it was still really good. Which is rare especially when heating up restaurant food. The prices was really good. Last night I went to Staten Island for good food. Good food that, sadly, is only found on SI or upstate. Perkins was well worth the trip, though. The service is friendly and fast, the food is AMAZING (breakfast all day makes me happy), and the dessert is delightful. It's definitely worth the trip if you want huge portions and good service. I went here this weekend for a quick lunch, never having tried Perkins but hearing good things from friends who've been there. Overall, I think they do a good job for a fast casual, sit-down restaurant. The food is not exceptional, but decent-I would recommend the mozzarella sticks personally-and the service extremely attentive. I want to go back sometime in the future and see how they do breakfast, and possibly dessert. I checked this place out because for years I had driven past highway signs for Perkins and was curious what it was all about. Since I was enjoying a very nice Saturday by taking the Staten Island Ferry, I figured I'd do something very random and have lunch here. This location is located right by the Old Town SIR station, which is only about a ten-minute ride from the St. George Ferry Terminal. Long story short it's a chain version of the diners you see all across NYC, but with some perks (no pun intended). First off, Perkins has a very large desert menu and sells entire pies for takeout by the register. The layout of the restaurant is essentially two mirror-image opposite L-shapes with the register/sales counter and waiting area taking up the center and the bathrooms and kitchen taking up the upper corners. I was seated immediately and given the extremely large menu (even by diner standards). It actually took me a good ten minutes to choose what to order. What's interesting about the menu is that, since this is a chain, the calorie counts are posted, and, since this is a diner, you can actually find about how many calories you're taking in when you visit the mom-and-pop diners. Needless to say, the calorie counts scared me away from getting fries (~600cal) with my turkey club sandwich (~800 cal), so instead I chose a side salad (~150 cal). The service was very friendly (my Diet Coke was refilled twice without asking) and quick. Both the sandwich and salad were very tasty. The turkey club is my usual diner order, so I was able to compare, and Perkins' was a notch above what I'm used to. The salad was also better than expected. Let's face it, at a diners you often get a some old semi-brown salad with very little dark green. Perkins' salad wasn't world-class, but it was fresh. Just about all the meals will run you about $10 - $11 with a drink and tax. Overall this is a very decent place to have a meal. read more

This has to be my family and I's "go-to-safe-spot" to eat on Staten Island. This location (Hylan) completely revamped the interior and it looks great. The waitstaff is always friendly and quick and does not ever mind my dad taking 20 mins to order the exact same thing everytime we come here. Great for Brunch and go for dinner. Plus for ladies who are calorie conscious, they have a "light menu" that won't make you want to spend hours at the gym and doesn't cut the flavor. The baked goods are ammazing and fresh. The banana cream pie is my favorite and their banana walnut muffins are awesome. I last came here about 2 Saturday's ago on my way to get my pictures taken for my India/Nepal Visa. read more

Perkins in a nut-shell is similar to I-Hop, Only difference is I would choose I-Hop over Perkins if I had to eat and I don't like I-Hop much. When we came in there was plenty of seating because it was slow. We sat down and ordered waters for the table. The water had a funny taste to it so I knew it wasn't filtered. Looking around I loved the modern look of the place with the old school music playing. It worked well with a 50's type vibe. When the nice waitress came for our orders one of my Co-Workers ordered mozzarella sticks, the other ordered Cheeseburger fries and I ordered shrimp & grits. When the food finally came out, they gave my Co-Worker chicken fingers instead of the mozzarella sticks. The waitress quickly took them away and got the order right. She also took the differences off the check which was cool. When it was time to eat I must say I wasn't impressed, not in the least. I asked for extra cheese on my grits and the gave me a little container of Parmesan cheese, not what I was looking for. The shrimp had no flavor, which I was surprised about, how can you not get shrimp right. The Cheeseburger fries were bland and the fries were hard. The chicken fingers were on the dry side as well. Currently, sitting in PERKINS, after finishing my Belgian Waffle platter breakfast, with 2 cups of coffee (definitely required since I'm awake so early) . Upon arrival, walking through the door, I was greeted, and seated in a timely fashion. Margaret (server/waitress) was very friendly & approachable!! She chatted with me (which is seldom uncommon). Happily awaiting my breakfast, I didn't have to wait long.. Margaret had told me it was coming after assisting another patron. The food was quite delicious & filling!! Went here last night for dinner as I was craving an old school Turkey Club and remembered that when I was a kid that Perkins had a killer one at that. Well...It's not an item on the menu the way I like it. Anyways I digressed...I was hoping that this would be a serviceable meal with decent service. I have mixed feelings about both. Let's start with the food, we ordered a Chorizo Quesadilla thing that was rather disappointing and was not portioned correctly. 1 tortilla had all of the meat on top while the others had very little. I ordered the Granny Wrap which was decent (probably a 4 star meal) with tater tots and I was generally happy with it. My gf on ordered the Eggs Benedict as she always does when she goes to Perkins as she loves the sauce. It was brought out to her and she was rather disappointed. It looked to me as if it had sat in the window while my food was cooking. One of the Eggs was Poached Hard and the other was normal. I don't know what it is lately with Staten Island cooks not knowing how to poach eggs properly. The sauce was skimpy and the meal did not look very appealing. Now for the service: We were promptly greeted and sat. The server came up and took our drink orders, he was neither here nor there with his service, but I wasn't expecting white table cloth. He brought our drinks out and came back shortly to take our orders. I was rather thirsty and drank my soda fairly quickly and he walked by the table multiple times without noticing my empty cup. What really got me was when he was picking up our appetizer plate (didn't ask if we were finished or asked how it was) and reached over the empty glass. At that point I asked him for another glass (he never asked again when my soda got low later, but don't worry I rationed my soda knowing this). He was not present on the floor but you could hear him joking around in the kitchen. We did see him when he was arguing with the other server about side work right there on the middle of the floor. He eventually touched our table to see how the meal was. We were both pretty much done at that point. We were going to order dessert but we were a bit turned off so we declined. They have plenty of seating it's well lit, they have plenty of children seating and the menu is extensive the atmosphere is very friendly the food taste good I would go back here. I have read all of the other reviews on this place & I don't know if we were in the same restaurant or not. My daughter & I were had an appointment in Staten Island. Afterward we were hungry & decided to try Perkins, (I have been to Perkins before, but only in PA & it was many years ago). I do have to say that the place was clean & the kids that work there were very nice & hard working. Our waitress, Elizabeth, was adorable. She had a very busy section, but she paid attention to everyone. But I do have to say the food was horrible. I had the chicken breast with melted Swiss & mushrooms. It lukewarm & dry. I had a hard time finishing it. My daughter had a pasta w/ Alfredo sauce w/ grilled chicken. It was flavorless. Very bland. I felt that the food was taken from the freezer & thrown into the microwave. I do have to add that we order the spicy buffalo wings for appetizer & they were delicious. Sorry folks I would not go here again. I gave it 2 stars because the kids that worked there were great & I don't fault them at all. But I do not think this place was worth the money I spent. My first review on yelp and I must say I have been wanting to leave one for this Perkins . I live about 5 blocks away . This is a warning . Ok we get in sit down no menu or anything over 10 minutes ........ My gf gets up goes to restroom to wash her hands comes back and is laughing about how some nasty girl was fighting with her bf on the phone while she blew out the stall . Low and behold she comes out after her and we notice ... u ready for this ... its our waitress ! Awesome this is gonna be a great experience . She comes over we order coffee and pie . We get crusty coffee cups that r dirty and they look like they were from world war 2 . The Pie was a cold slop .
