Lots of really good menu options. Every plate comes out fresh. I've never received an order that looks like it sat under the warmer for too long. The servers come around and refill drinks and make sure you have plenty of napkins and anything else you need. I recently placed an order to-go. Great Food, amazing strawberry lemonade and I would return. I was in town for the weekend and my friends suggested this place. I thought it was going ot be another Denny's but boy was I wrong. I hear most things are made from scratch. It sure tastes like it. I had the nachos half with chili and half with green sauce. They were amazing and the portions are HUGE. Ordered water but noticed the strawberry lemonade and I  HAD to try it. IT WAS BOMB. I left quite please and full, could not finish the food. I returned a day later for breakfast beause it was that good. I do not eat breakfast most of the time but this place had pretty good breakfast. I had 2 eggs, hashbrowns and pancakes for $7.75 and it was really good for the price with a good portion. Did not finish it again. All in all, it was a good experience and a good place to eat at. Unfortunately could not give it 5 stars. This is because the second time we came in we put our name down on their paper but as people started coming in we noticed that they had skipped us like 4 times. I love this restaurant, great staff and service. overall amazing people. I love going in and seeing everyone with high energy and motivated. This family owned restaurant was open during covid doing amazing with following cdc guidelines and making me very happy with all my togo orders I was placing. I was eating with my family the other day and got the chicken and broccoli pasta which is my favorite lunch item. It came out perfect and I enjoyed it. The server was amazing I think her name was something with a Z , super friendly and always made sure we were okay. The hosts would also check in on us and ask if we needed any refills . I took my mom to dinner last night to Perko's in Madera. One of our families favorite places to eat locally. I usually order the Ultimate French Dip. Last night I looked through the menu and saw the Chile Verde Skillet. Great choice. I am a green chile fiend as it is. I lived in New Mexico for 3 years and have become a regular connoisseur of the stuff! The sweetness of the green chile's along with just the right amount of heat were a win! It took me back to my New Mexico Days of having Hatch Green Chile's. Though not Hatch the flavor was great. The skillet has Green Chile, Pork and Potatoes, topped with two eggs your way and served with a large flour tortilla. This is now my new Perko's Favorite! read more

This place just remodeled and it looks great. The new menu is awesome. I wish they would bring the KIDS EAT FREE days back but I am sure they need to pay for the remodeling. I love the HAYSTACK burger with Swish cheese. When you get off of Highway 99 at Cleavland Avenue look for the Red Barn. I think the new look of this place is going to make it a Madera landmark. Before the place looked like every other coffee shop up and down the freeway. Now it really stands out. The wait staff is great. All very cute except for the ugly guy they have there for breakfast (hahaha). My ice tea is always filled most times without asking. They know to bring the A1 with my burger and they interact well with my kids. I am very critical and don't often give a five star review but this place earned it. The portions are large and the food is tasty. Plus the steaks they serve are the exact same ones they serve at Cool Hand Lukes across the street and a more reasonable price. Been here a few times...convenient stop on the bike when headed from the Bay Area down to SoCal. Located JUST off 99, it's right next to a gas station, making it even more convenient. This is definitely a typical "country style" restaurant...meaning, it's out in the middle of nowhere (well, Madera...close enough), and having more of a "homey" atmosphere then anything you'd find in the Bay Area. Good menu choices, ranging from breakfast through lunch sandwiches through dinner....and although I don't eat it, there's a good selection of ice cream to finish up with. The beauty? Diet Pepsi...sweet! I typically get their burger (shocker). It's prepared well, is a good sized hunk'o meat, and is available with swiss AND bacon....nice! It also comes with a barrel'o fries.... I've been with others who order the breakfast (at 1pm...go figure), and they seem to down it about as fast as I can down a burger...so suspect that breakfast and dinner are as good as the burgers. Had breakfast the staff was very attentive and check on us several times offering refills on our drinks, especially coffe personally not a coffee drinker but if you are, refills will be abundant. The place was full but staff worked quickly. The second time I visited this establishment was a different story it was brunch time and our waitress took a while to come to the table seemed rushed and didn't come back to check on our table. On a whim, my husband and I decided to visit Madera for the weekend. Perko's is located next to our motel so there was no question about where we were going to take our hungry 2 year-old for breakfast. At 9:30am on a Saturday morning, I was happy to see that there was no wait (on our way out, there was a line out the door!) and we were seated promptly. The menu has a variety of options, and if you're like me you would be delightfully surprised to find an option like the Splatter Cakes Combo that balances the sweet and savory. It is basically crepes rolled with a sweet cream filling topped with strawberries and *gasp* REAL whipped cream! With a side of sausage and scrambled eggs, this meal perfectly satiated my craving for a functional and fancy breakfast. Our toddler was more than excited over her Kids Combo plate, which consisted of a single pancake twice the size of her head, two pieces of crispy bacon, and a scrambled egg. She finished a little more than half of the pancake and took maybe two bites of egg. The waitstaff were great about bringing her milk, crayons, and paper to keep her occupied. My husband ordered the Chile verde omelet which I didn't ask to sample -- not for lack of interest, but the portions were perfect on my plate and our 2 year-old required a lot of attention. Today was the first & last time I will EVER eat at Perko's Cafe/Grill! The service was extremely slow and worst of all we ordered a strawberry milkshake and there was a staple (from a stapler) in it. When we spoke to the manger about it, the response was "I have never heard of this happening and I've been here over 10 years. Do you want another one, we won't charge you for it!" Really????? That's it???? That thing went in my granddaughters mouth before she spit it out, and that's all the response your establishment has to say????? Excellent service, generous portions. Breakfast was great. Pancakes were huge and yummy. Tried a side of the chili verde and it's somewhat flavorful but no at all spicy. My eggs were slightly over cooked (over medium vs over easy) but not a big deal. There was only 1 server on the floor during breakfast and she was handling everything splendidly with support from the hostess. It's nice seeing team work like this. We will be back. read more

Stopped in for breakfast today. I have eaten at this location several times over the last 20 years or so. This is definitely the best Perkos franchise in the area. The staff has been consistently top notch for as long as I can remember. Though the restaurant has been here awhile, it has been maintained and kept clean. The food is always good. Anyone who went out for breakfast today can agree that every breakfast location was packed. I started here went to 3 other places here in town called and this was the shortest wait time... I waited 2 hours with my 3 small children & husband to eat. As soon as i went in And gave my name. Others began to arrive. Everyone was getting seated but us. I understand its a busy day so i waited patiently. Realizing no one cared, i asked to be seated. I kept trying to get someones attention. But clearly they all felt that since the owner was on the floor they didnt have to come to our table. When i asked to speak to the manager she girl nicely went and came back informing me that my server was infact the manager. She came back and wouldn't even let me talk she just kept saying i didnt know it was this busy. I understand that i just was wondering why my family out of all the 20+ familys that were coming in was being ignored. Ma'am i watched everyone come and go. And she said no u didnt. And began to tell me this was the only place opened today. Ma'am, i went to every location. U guys said u had the shortest wait time so we chose u. When infact it took me 2 hours. I've loved Perko's for years, but had to call the Madera Manager Today. Seriously concerned when today 6/25/20 staff were NOT wearing mask. They may be wearing gloves but only one staff wore a mask. WTF it's a business and exposing people. And it's now mandatory for everybody. I was an Infection Control nurse for years, the manager was polite but sounded like he just found out! This is crazy. Perko's is a good place for a good old fashioned breakfast with your loved ones. Their breakfast is always really really good but the lunch and dinner is good but not as good as their breakfast. My favorite meal on the menu is the French Toast. I've never been a huge fan of Breakfast but Perkos just hits the spot. And the food is always warm when it gets to your table. I definitely recommend Perko's if you want to be sure you're gonna enjoy a good breakfast. Just good food! read more

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I were driving back from camping in Sequoia National Park when we decided to stop by for a classic diner style breakfast. After doing some initial research on yelp and looking at their online menu, we chose to give Perko's Cafe a try and we were not disappointed! My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of pancakes and I had ordered the chili verde skillet with over easy eggs and a side of sourdough toast instead of a tortilla. Not only were the sides changed at no additional cost but the service was warm and friendly. The chili verde skillet was packed with umami and was so good that it convinced us to also order the chili verde breakfast burrito to-go for lunch as we continued our drive home. The chicken fried steak was served with two steaks and the traditional hash browns and eggs. Perko's did not skimp on the gravy, the eggs were perfectly cooked to order (scrambled dry) and the hash browns were delicious. The only down side was that the breading of the chicken fried steak was a little soggy on the bottom as if it had been sitting but was very flavorful nonetheless. Typically we worry that whenever chicken fried steak is offered that it may be frozen, however we did not get any suspicion that this was frozen given the color and texture of the breading and the overall flavor of the dish. Moreover their coffee comes with free refills and is beyond words. It was so good, that as we were speaking with the server when we received the check (total of $46) I jokingly said that a tiny to-go cup would be amazing for our drive. Without hesitation, our server smiled, left, and quickly returned with two VERY large styrofoam cups which she had another server fill to the top with fresh hot coffee. Our visit here was amazing and was the perfect conclusion for the memorable camping trip we had. We both left fat, full, and very happy and will be sure to swing by again for our next trip. read more
