Since we were near this location we decided to stop in for some lunch. This Mejia location has the worst mexican food. The salsa is tomatoes sauce. Green salsa was okay Menudo with pork feet and hominy The menudo caldo was tasteless watered down tomatoes sauce the pork feet and honeycomb meat strips taste like they had been cooked in water hominy was almost non existed. They included dry oregano 3 whole dry chillies, onion and cilantro on the side but not even these additions improve the menudo taste. Rolled taquitos The rolled taquitos were cold the lettuce was old the American guacamole was white mostly crema Fresca Chile verde burrito The chile verde burrito was salty and the green salsa was sour. Their carne asada was about the only decent Items on the menu. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food avoid this location this is not representative of any Mexican food I have eaten before save your money or try the Mejia location on Madera Avenue. I don't understand how these two locations have such drastically different tastes and quality of food. read more

Was in the mood for a Campechana, or HUGE seafood cocktail. Usually this has all the seafood groups, those being shrimp, abalone, octopus, and oysters sometimes.. This one only had shrimp and octopus. I thought a little pricey, but it was well worth it. The taste of the broth, and seafood were really good. There home made chips and salsa were really good as well. I ate the whole basket by myself good. I drank an Horchata (sweetened rice water) and it was really good as well. 4 carne asada tacos for $17 that didn't have any cabbage or cilantro? It was the only place open on a Monday so my daughter was stuck with it. My kid was even shocked and she doesn't usually pay attention to the cost of food. Definitely won't be back, I get the cost of food has went up but tacos are small and they can be picked up for a lot less for better quality. I had two tacos and a side of guacamole. The tacos were great; they are packed with meat that is well seasoned and tender. I had the pastor and legua, and they were both very tasty. The white corn tortillas were warm and worked well. I wish there was a house-made salsa to add to the Tacos like many taquerias have. They only have the can-like salsa that comes with the not-so-tasty, saltless, bagged chips, or the stuff out of the bottles. The guacamole was ok; it had chunks of tomato that weren't very pleasing, but the flavor was good. If you're a purist, you won't like it. The soda cups are tiny which was good for me, so if you like a lot of soda, order a large. The staff was very friendly and the food was out fast, but it was pretty dead. Overall I was happy. Mejia's is probably in the top five places I would recommend to you in Madera. The business is clean, the employees are nice and the food is pretty good. Prices are reasonable, not expensive. Not a big fan of the salsa that is served with the chips -to each there own though but everything else I have ordered was pretty good. They have very good breakfast burritos, there lunch and dinner plates are full of flavor, we do take out 90% of the time, there dining area is not real big but it works just fine. I requested a deconstructed chicken tostado (so-to-speak). Prepared exactly how I wanted and had wonderful flavor. My companion ordered a burrito and said it was delicious (it looked yummy). Excellent service, tasty food, easy-going atmosphere and super low prices (they really need to charge more). You can't beat this place. Horchata is yummy, and the enchilada and rice and beans was pretty good too, the fish tacos came with sour cream. We requested it without sour cream but it was still put on anyway. They were quite busy and took a little time to Order, the lady was alone. She was super friendly and did apologize. Our food came quickly and was very fresh. Nice and hot. The tacos were loaded with meat and had guacamole. Very tasty. The burritos had a delicious sauce on it, I did think they had too many beans. This is a clean,no frills restaurant. Branch off another downtown staple here in town.. tacos are decent and a good size, tortillas have that nice texture that makes it feel home made. Today I had the shrimp cocktail and my cousin had the campechana. Beers were brought prompt and quick (and at a reasonable price), we weren't offered water but then again we didn't ask for it. My shrimp cocktail was LOADED with shrimp, but at the same time equally balanced with other ingredients to give it a good texture when u put a big spoonful into your mouth. Did I mention the chips? BOTH times they were brought out still fresh and warm, had that nice soft crunch and not that TOO HARD reheated bs feel a lot of restaurants try to pull. Only minor complaint was that the octopus in the campechana was a little too tough AND too salty but other than that everything up to par. Ok after numerous attempts trying to locate good local Menudo restaurant in Fresno we stumbled here on way home to SJ. We had a huge party of 12 and the place was crowded with many locals. After waiting a few minutes we were able to rearrange our seating and get to ordering. Everyone had different plates such Hamburgers con papa fritas, Camarones Mojo, Enchiladas, Chorizo con Hash brown, Carne Asada Taco and Coctel de Camarones. I took it to a different level and ordered the House Special-Carne en se juga con frijoles, cebolla, tocino y chile verde. Omg this was very very good. Not at all too spicy and flavored very well. It is served with tortillas but i didn't eat them since i was soo involved in the caldo itself. I also had a small coctel and michelada. Those both were good as well. This place, disgrace! Okay, so I will say that if you are really drunk this place might be passible, might be, if they cut their prices in half....maybe. But I would not return. The worst part is they lied about our order, charged us for extra items and never included them. Even when I asked the cashier if she put my extra items in the bag she said yes, fooled me. And no salsa! No! Salsa! None! Nothing! Save me Jesus! I'm so trusting, woe is me. Also, the cashier didn't know anything about the menu, and had to keep asking the cook for advice, yeesh! They said the ceviche was made daily, that was a huge stinking lie. Our society is collapsing. The ceviche was not fresh and the ingredients were wilting and mushy.......enter sad face here. The fish was not great and cut in a weird shape, chop it up finely buddy, use fresh ingredients, take pride in your preparation, too bad, my life is wasted on this place. Probably the second worst chimichanga I ever had. I think they drowned the chimichanga in cold oil rather than frying it in hot deliciousness. For shame, it was soggy, cold and chewy. The carne asada meat was old, salty, chewy and Pah-Thet-Ick! That's pathetic with a capital "P." Gurgle, Gurgle, that's my stomach, it hurts from the failure of my regrettable meal here.
