I decided to board my dog when I left town on a trip recently, and I picked Perk's Boarding Kennel because they have really good hours. They are open until 7pm Monday through Saturday and they are open for a few hours on Sunday. The hours worked perfectly with my work schedule and it meant that my dog would not have to be boarded any longer than necessary. When I showed up to drop off my dog, Sassy, I was greeted by a very sweet man who reassured me that Sassy would be great hands. He showed me exactly where she would be staying and he explained to me that she would be allowed to run around outside in a secure area four times a day. When I returned from my trip and picked Sassy up I was very pleased. I could immediately tell that she was happy and comfortable. She didn't have that, "Get me out of here, Mom!" look on her face. Obviously, she was well cared for. They even bathed her and clipped her nails. No doubt about it, I will use Perk's Boarding Kennels the next time I need to board my dog. read more

Love this place! Always ready to take my dog even at the last minute or in an emergency. The groomer is fantastic. Reasonable in price.

I have boarded my dogs at Perk's many times. It's a 3rd generation business so the building is not new or as fancy as some of the other boarding facilities. However, our dogs were well cared for. Jonathan was quick to let us know when our girls weren't eating. We concluded it was because they weren't together. He let them stay in the same kennel and they were as happy as can be. Don't be surprised if you hear a lot of barking. There are a lot of dogs there that don't know each other. They are going to bark. I've been there when the staff didn't have to be walking amongst the dogs and they were calm and quiet. While it's not the same as being in our own home, our dogs were WELL CARED FOR. read more

This unassuming looking kennel has been taking great care of my 2 large (100lb+) "puppies" since 2012 with boarding ranging from 1 night to 3 weeks, with little notice sometimes. Thank goodness for groomers willing to deal with energetic and strong dogs. No cuts, abrasions, or just bad/uneven clips which is what happened at the Vet's Groomers. They have always been polite and helpful whenever i called or was onsite. read more

Perk's Kennels is a definite lifesaver. I lived in Memphis for four years while I was a student at the art college and being a CA native my two kitties often needed a place to stay during the holidays/emergency trips. While I never have boarded a dog and cannot attest to boarding them, I can say that the treatment my kitties received during their stay was superb. The house-like setting that the family business has provided is much more accommodating and personable than a lot of the kennel places, and my often last minute calls were always met with kind words and reassurance that my kitties would have a place. Convenient hours for pickup and drop-off made it easy to catch late night flights, and my kitties were always let out in the common area. In fact, John and his staff always recognized myself and the kitties whenever I came in during four or five month intervals. While the prices are at the top of the price range for a broke college student, my cats always came home bathed (what a feat, very impressive), clean, happy, and well fed. The overnight staff that stays with the animals is a wonderful addition, and John's son (I think) says that he let the cats out in the cat condo area everyday and loved to play with them. If you are looking for both a long or short term place to board animals (the kitties have stayed there up to a month) where your pets come back in even better condition, happy, fed, and loved than look no further than Perk's. Great prices, friendly service, and availability during high holiday months when its hard to find a kennel make this place an exception find. I'll truly miss Perk's Kennels now that I'm gone, it's a real gem. read more

It may not look like much on the outside but this place has been wonderful for boarding our little Chihuahua mix. She loves going here and runs straight to the workers wanting them to pet her as soon as I open the door. You can't beat the pricing. My dog does not care for any "extras" that other boarding kennels charge. Recommend for anyone who doesn't have a high maintenance dog! read more

Compared to anywhere in town their pricing is fantastic and they have outside play time for the dogs. I learned that this is not available anywhere in town as you cannot have pets inside of City Limits outside of the kennel but they are considered a farm. Words cannot express the amazing satisfaction that Jonathan and his team has delivered every single time when taking care of our yellow lab Emma and American Shorthair cat Wolverine (my at the time 5 year old got naming rights). Not only did we humans have a great experience, but also our pets as Emma is always "tail-wagging" excited at drop off and at the time of pickup. I'm new to the area and needed a place to board my one year old dog, Josie. She had never been boarded, so I was a little concerned. The owner, Jonathan, encouraged me to leave a bed, blanket, bone or whatever I wanted to make her comfortable. Josie has had four visits there so far with another one coming up next month (my family lives in another state). She always comes home happy and healthy. If you're looking for a fancy pet hotel, you might need to look somewhere else, but if you want a safe, well-run kennel for your pet, this is a great choice. read more

Hello to all, I am a 1st time dog mom, so I was trying to locate a nice,fun, and clean boarding place for my dogs. In the past i've left my dogs at Petvax for boarding but wanted to try something different. What draw my interest in Perk's Boarding Kennel, is that offered the dogs playtime outside, and the staff seemed to be very nice and very knowledgeable. So, i proceeded to take my dogs (which are both under 20lbs) to this location. So i asked to see that boarding area..... OMG the snitch was sooooooo bad, not to mention it was very filthy. And showed me the grooming area......GROSS..They also board the larger dogs with small dogs (frightening)..... In my opinion, this place needs to be torn down, gutted inside and out. I would not leave a Rat at this place. I am sorry, but please don't leave your pets here! Now, i have to stay that the owners were extremely nice, but the place is just unclean and unkept..... read more

No dog is ever really happy away from their Master. BUT the staff at Perks Kennels does try very hard to accommodate the client and their pet(s) in every way possible! Perk's kept my kitty on short notice Friday morning til Monday morning. I was very nervous to take him to a kennel because he is extremely socially nervous. He won't step foot outside and has to go in another room if visitors come over. When I dropped him off the employee heard me out, understood, told me it was more common than I would think, and really eased my mind. When I picked him up he of course was happy to see me, but seemed rather happy. The same employee was there and helped me pack him up, carry everything out to the car, and told me overall how he did. I didn't opt for a bath and am glad because he didn't stink at all, as I have seen on other reviews. The only complaints I have are that my cat was obviously VERY thirsty when we got home, and that when I called half way thru just to make sure he was doing OK, whoever I talked to on the phone made me feel pretty dumb for calling and obviously took it offensively. I know they are just animals, but you have to realize they are members of a family and are worried about. I wasn't concerned about the care he was getting, I was concerned about how he was adapting! read more

Last minute boarding! They are awesome I have an English Bulldog that uber spoiled. He was well taken care of

When you pull in the drive you see a house. Behind the house is the boarding area. Upon entering we were blown away by the smell of urine and feces. I immediately had second thoughts about leaving my dogs, however there was a death in our family and we were out of options at that point. The website is very misleading as well as other reviews. I worried about my 14yr old dog not receiving her medications properly and being stressed out because of how loud it was because of all of the dogs barking. The gentlemen who took the dogs, wrote down the instructions for my dog's medications on a sticky note and we had to repeat the instructions over and over. When we picked up the dogs, our larger dog had not been exercised as we requested, because he was extremely hyper and was frantic because he had so much energy. Both dogs smelled horrible. So bad, that I had to steam clean the upholstery in the car, and the ride from the kennel to our home is 20min tops. They charge extra for a bath, which should be included since your pet will smell so bad staying at this kennel. Not ever going back. Will gladly pay more somewhere else. read more

I recently boarded my 2 dogs here for a week. They were very nice and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately one of my doggies does not do well at a kennel. She got sick - likely related to her nervousness. John went above and beyond to take care of her and make sure she was okay. I cannot say enough about this - it really meant a lot to me. He really went out of his way to treat her well during the stay. I will definitely use them again for any boarding needs. read more

I have used this kennel for over a year after trying two other very expensive places. My dog came back sick once and traumatized in the kennels that had vets available. When I took her to Perk's she went in happy and came home that way. They seem to spend time with the dogs. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the outward appearance and smell. But I prefer that and a happy dog to an antiseptic place with a vet available and an unhappy dog. read more

I spoke with Jonathan, the owner of perks boarding kennel, and he sat with me and told me how well the pets are taken care of while they stay with them. He even offered to take my "high maintenance " babies to his house if they decided to not eat their food. I wish I could have boarded my two beloved chihuahuas with Jonathan and his crew, but my husband and I found another arrangement. My yellow lab/Aussie mix is a year old and haven't had to kennel him since we have had him. Being on the fence about it, we had no choice due to us going on vacation for over a week. We looked up and down Memphis trying to find the right one for Cooper. We arrived a couple of days early after booking his stay, just to check the place out. The owners dad was a nice man but not very professional. He assured us he's "just helping out, he doesn't work there" multiple times and as I understand about liability with customers looking around the place, I feel like it is good customer service and comforting. He was extremely sketchy about showing me and my fiancé around, which put me on edge. When we arrived to come pick him up, he had a limp and was/still is wheezing extremely bad,to the point where I am setting an appointment for him to see the Veterinarian tomorrow. I believe it's from the leash(rope) they had around his neck..after I had tried to let them take his harness and leash I had for him and they turned me away. I understand this leash they had was super convenient, but now I'm having to worry about my poor pup and hope his esophagus isn't damaged. I will not be taking my Cooper back to this kennel. Extremely disappointed for as much as I paid. read more
