i would give 0 stars if i could. this was a really terrible experience. I brought a bridesmaid dress in (on the recommendation from Bella Bridesmaids, where i purchased the dress) with a few weeks to go before the wedding. When I tried it on in store for measuring, she continued to tell me it wasn't worth it to take in the waist because of how little excess there was, i had to ask 2 or 3 times before she finally agreed. There was also excess around the bust, and when i pointed this out, she instead just pulled the straps tighter. I wasn't sure this was best - but she's the tailor and she ignored me when i mentioned taking in the bust on the side. She gave me a date just a few days before the wedding - i said what if it's not right? she said there's no way, 100% guarantee it'll be right. okay... i come in to pick it up and she acted like i was insane for wanting to try it on to see if it fit right. insisted there was no way it could be wrong. made me pay before i went to the dressing room. i ended up trying on and not feeling comfortable enough to say anything. i brought it home, tried it on for family members and all agreed the straps and just look extremely tight and they feel very uncomfortable. i called the store and explained the problem and she said there's nothing i can do, laughed, said sorry and hung up the phone. i'll also mention, after the measurement appointment after she'd written out the ticket and price and i was literally walking out the door she mentioned she only takes cash. don't bring your clothes here. completely lazy work, intimidating behavior. i have a completely ruined dress that can't be fixed and looks and feels terrible. read more

Clothing is funny. The manufacturers have to construct it to fit standard sizes and as I look across my group of girlfriends, I am always amazed that I might wear the same "off the rack" size as someone else who is 5" shorter, or 20 lbs thinner or heavier or differently proportioned. Yet the number in the collar of our dress is the same. Enter Oak Brook Tailors. They will take those garments and custom fit them to you so you end up looking like a million bucks for far less. And we all know a good fit is key to pulling off that perfect look! They have two dressing rooms up front where you try on your clothes and then come out into the broader room to be pinned. Because they specialize in women's alterations- you can count on them to get the waist perfectly fitted, the hem hitting at just the right spot and the sleeves draping perfectly. And ladies- no more "mom hem" in those jeans- get them altered with a "jean seam" at the hemline! They usually take a couple of weeks to get the clothes done but they can also do "rush jobs" if you find the perfect dress but it needs alterations before some big weekend event. Just ask . . . .they are great with customer service! A couple of common sense reminders: bring the shoes you want to wear with the pants if you are having pants done. Also- the right undergarments are key- wear or bring what you will be wearing with that outfit so that it all hangs properly. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the work done. Lined or leather skirts are about $40 and dresses with major alterations might be about $70 but if you have already made an investment in these pieces- it's a small price to pay to have them fit like a glove! Oak Brook Tailors is the old Perl Tailors under the new ownership. But I don't care what they are called as long as they continue to do the amazing work that they do custom fitting women's clothes. Oh? And the really good news? Under this new ownership- they now take plastic as well as cash and checks. read more

Just a quick review to share my love for this place. Close to home, does the job right, and the owners are very friendly - they also speak english, which is a huge plus ;) it may be a bit more expensive than other places, but i've noticed along the years that the cheaper places provide cheaper services - i've had plenty of pants with hems that just fell down after a few wears. Perl Tailor Shop - not the case - and they're very fast too! The only downside is the hours - i sometimes find it hard to find the time to get there within the business hours. i recommend this place to all of my clients, too! read more

I recently had a suit tailored at Perl, and I was not at all impressed. The most frustrating part of my experience was how unprofessional the employees were. I felt like they could not be bothered as the discussed relationships. In the end, I did get measured...2 weeks and $44 bucks later, I had my tailored suit. Whenever I bring in suits or shirts for alterations over at Perl I'm always satisfied with the results. I recently brought in a suit that I knew was too short in the sleeves of the jacket and the inseam of the pants but Gus maxed out the length of the fabric and even added more to the inside of the sleeve lining. Great craftsmanship. I've brought a lot of pieces to him over the years and even though I write my name on the ticket, he recognizes me and says with a smile "How you doing guy!" Funny! read more

I had a jumpsuit that was too long with a tapered leg, and too big in the torso area. And I needed it to look tailored for me in a short period of time. The expedited service cost a little bit more, but I got what I paid for. I was concerned that the work would not be great - it was prom season and all of the dresses in the back let me know that they were very busy. Called in advance, I desperately need measurements. She told me to come down at am. I got there and im told she won't assist me because I'm a male. But if I drive all the way to downers grove someone there will assist me. I was livid. Avoid this place at all means possible. Got a suit tailored here this past week and have a couple of thoughts: 1) very, very nice work - the suit looks terrific 2) it was done when they promised on a pretty short time frame (thanks!!) and 3) they are a little on the pricey side - not unexpected in Oak Brook. Overall, I was very happy with them and I'm willing to spend a little more on alterations to make the clothes look nice. I'll be going back to Perl Tailors. The shop is located underground. The lady there is impatient and unskilled. I need to alternate a suit. She was keep saying how hard it was for her to do alternation and finally quoted a very high price and even insisted that it had to take two weeks. In addition, she kept laughing at how bad the suit looks, which was very annoying. If you go there, also need to be careful about the floor full of pins. I strongly recommend the taylor at Nordstrom, which is at the same complex. I finally got my suit alternated there. The tailor was very helpful and professional. After quickly measured my size, he promised for the quality, offered a much cheaper price(about half of the price from Perl), and guaranteed to finish within one week. After one week, I got my suit with perfect fit! read more

Absolutely the best tailor! I've been going there for 18 years, old owners and new. My suits are always expertly tailored! I lost weight and had a dress altered down, which is gorgeous! Their service is always spot on. I was surprised there were a few negative reviews. They're a top notch tailor shop! I will not take my clothes anywhere else ever.. I have tried ..result not good. So this is where I have my clothes tailored for me. Mostly I have had pants done (taken in, Hemmed). Their prices are a bit high, but I think that is due to the cost of their space. They are well worth it! read more

The woman wasted my time and insulted me on top of it. I clearly said if it did not fit in their schedule I was happy to try elsewhere, but she said to come in. When I got there she basically told me that there was nothing I could do to fix the dress and told me to go buy a new one. She even suggested that I get a different style because the style that I was wearing made me look huge. She should know that bridesmaids don't have the luxury of options, but thanks for the slap in the face in my time of crisis. I ended up going to another tailor for a second opinion because I had a feeling she just didn't want to help. Thank goodness I went to another tailor who was so kind and had no issues tailoring the dress for me in less than a week! I'm sure they tailor just fine, but I appreciate a little bit of customer service wherever I go. read more
