It was great while Maria was there. Now there is a man ' woman in her place who charges over-inflated prices. I will come back to tell you how well they did, but I'm in such shock with how much they are charging. There's talk Maria is only on a leave of absence. I wanted the sleeves lengthened as much as possible on a short hair faux fur coat. I mentioned putting tape - like seam binding at the edge so there would be enough of a hem. I got longer sleeves but when I put the coat on the lining falls down below the fur. Not a good look. Also she did nothing to remove the creases. This was an expensive coat, now it looks like a piece of garbage. I hope it can be fixed by a professional. read more

The worst tailoring I've ever gotten. The woman who measured me (maybe Maria) rushed me through pinning my hems and didn't listen or didn't understand (language barrier?) how I wanted them done- despite me checking several times to make sure she understood. I had a bad feeling and only left a few of the pants I needed hemmed. When I retrieved my pants, they were the wrong length and two pairs of pants were two different lengths. No attention to detail whatsoever. No pride in what they do and needless to say, I'll never be back. read more

I've been going to Maria for many years as has my mother. She always does a nice job. This particular time, I had a few pairs of linen pants I needed altered, one in particular I wanted to take on a fast approaching trip. I asked if Maria could prioritize the one pair and the others I'd pick up whenever, no rush. Came back to pick up the priority pair, and she had gotten the others taken care of as well. I was extremely thankful. Her prices are very reasonable and the location is great. If you commute and take the BNSF line, she's at the Lagrange stop and worth the hop off for drop off. read more

I was quoted one price on the ticket I was given at the time I went in to have my dress pinned when I picked it up it was double the price. I got home & tried on my dress only to find what I asked for was not done. As you can see in the pictures below my issues. I asked for the top to sewed together to exactly that wouldn't happen. I also asked for cups to be put in so I could go bra-less. The cups were held on with two stitches. Ran it thought the wash once on a very gentle cycle & they came right off. There was also a lot of random stitching throughout the dress for no apparent reason. I do appreciate how quickly they got it done, but no phone call or anything to let me know it was ready to be picked up. If I would've known I would have seen the issue sooner & gotten in fixed elsewhere. The 'timeliness' really shows. read more

Maria has done great work on everything from a sequined prom dress that needed to be taken in, to a football shirt for my son that needed a panel of material added on both sides to make his jersey bigger. Through a whole season of tackles and getting worn hard on the D line and O line, not a seam came out. I wish I had a photo of the jersey before and after the season because it was still in mint condition even though she had added material. Got a really nice hand-me-down suit from my Dad, but it was too big almost everywhere except for the pants length and the sleeve length. Originally, I took it here. Maria quoted me $82 including: taking in the sides and back of the jacket, crotch reduction, leg narrowing, waist reduction. Upon pickup, she honored the quoted price but the result left me wanting. There was a clear bulge along the shoulder/neckline, puffs around my thighs, and a crotch area that was still way too big. Maria said she couldn't do much more to fix up the pants, particularly because of the pleats getting ruined with more work. I didn't want to ask about the jacket and resolved to find a place with a bit more expertise. Accordingly, my brother researched and I took it to Mike's Custom Tailor a few blocks away; they did a fantastic job, but it did cost more. Overall, the employees here seem nice and their prices are pretty low. However, I'd avoid bringing any complicated issues to them unless you want to risk ending up with result I got. read more

They do a great job, their prices are super low, and they do not try to sell you more tailoring than you need. Erin M., I have no idea how you can say they are rude and nasty, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Maria, Hector, and their daughter. Very sweet and kind people. Maria is always SO quick and accommodating to my alteration requests and she is very affordable compared to most tailor shops. My friend and I got bridesmaid dresses altered here and had a terrible experience. The price we were quoted was much less than when we went to pick up the dresses. Additionally, the dresses were hemmed too short, not taken in enough, and the neckline was completely ruined (even after showing and leaving a picture with them of what it was supposed to look like). I am now going to have to go to a different tailor to see if they can fix the dress and spend even more money. read more

When the strap broke off my favorite and expensive purse i decided to take it to Hector and Maria's to see if they could fix it. They did in a reasonable amount of time for an even more reasonable amount of money. In fact the service was soo great and he staff so nice i went back to have my favorite shoes fixed. My wife and I dropped off a winter coat 2 weeks ago that needed cleaning on the cuffs and pockets. When we went to pick it up 1 week ago not only were the cuffs and pockets still not clean but some of the red color of our coat was faded and their was additional damage under the arm inseames which wasn't an issue when we brought the coat in initially... so after the older lady owner kind of took the attitude of distancing herself from the blame a younger lady insulted us by telling the older lady out load that we didn't want to pay... ( which hurt my wife's heart because this was the last thing we are even thinking about... We just want the job done right...) We told the the younger lady that what she said was inapporpriate and not good for her business or any business... because as a business owner you should try to treat people and their customers with more respect and make their customers happy... treat people the way you would want to be treated... Finally the older lady appoligized and said she would take care of the cleaning a second time... Today my wife and I came in for a third time and the cuffs and pockets were cleaner this time, but the under arm seams were even worse...( more of the inseams were white) When we pointed this out to both of them the older lady said I don't know... that the company they outsourced their cleaning to would know... the second time we were there she said her husband would take care of cleaning my wife's coat right... at this point we don't know what to believe... it's also to be noted that the younger lady said again the insulting remark that we did'nt want to pay... we told her again that her remark is insulting and hurting my wife's heart... as a business owner she should treat her customers with more respect... and should want to make their custumers happy... I told her that her attitude is bad for their business or any business... Once again the older lady said they will take my wife's coat again and take care of the under arm seams and to pick it up friday... hopefully they have my wife's coat returned to us in the same condition we brought it in with the under arm seams with the original normal color... I told the older lady that we don't want to deal with younger lady again in the future because of her attitude... read more

Not a fan. I had a skirt where the slit went up too high, so I asked them to shut it a bit. First time I wore it after the alteration, the stitching popped right out; it was not reinforced at all. Total waste of time & money taking the skirt there. Previous repairs had gone okay, but I don't feel like the quality was there and will not be returning. read more

Being a petite woman, I often need to get my garments altered. Finding a trust worthy seamstress isn't always easy. But I am happy to have found Hector & Maria Tailor Shop. The work they have done for me is always perfect! They also handle my dry cleaning services too. In my opinion they are the best in town. Previously, I was a loyal customer to the dry cleaners located across the street but they ruined my down comforter and the lady at the counter blame it on me... Good grief! He always does a nice job. He gives us a 'uniform' discount. (Which means, if you wear a uniform, he offers a discount for this.) The nice thing about him, he accidentally lost a pair of my husband's slacks last year but, he was good about telling us about it. He told us to give him the receipt for the pants and gave us the choice of cash reimbursement or to keep bringing in dry cleaning work and he would put the cost of each job towards the balance (for the pants) until it was paid off. My husband chose the latter. The nice thing about this was, he didn't force my husband to do it that way and he did offer to pay him back at full replacement value. Worst service. I had a skirt shortened and it came back an inch longer on one side. Hector argued with me that the skirt was of an uneven length to begin with, which it wasn't. Before that, I had another skirt shortened and the threads were loose and unraveled. Both times I was charged about a third more than the originally quoted price. Both times he was very argumentative. It took me too long to learn, but I finally got it.....I will never go back there again. read more

I recently brought a jumpsuit to get hemmed at this tailor shop. After bringing it home and trying it on, I noticed one pant leg was longer than the other, so I brought it back to get it corrected. They remeasured and said no charge to fix. At pick up, they tried to charge me for the alterations because they said the thread color used on the first alteration "wasn't a color they use." Unbelievable, because the reason I was having it redone was because the length wasn't done right the first time. I disputed their claim and the female employee threatened that they have cameras watching. Ok, I said I hope you have one in back to see who used the "wrong" thread color the first time! I told her that by accusing customers, she is going to lose them. She said that customers come and go... so I will go and find a new tailor for my alterations. Hope she gets her facts straight first next time before accusing loyal customers. I do not recommend their alteration work or customer service. read more

Revising my review to five stars, as they have moved two stores to the west and the place is beautiful!!! Very clean, and bright and the new dressing rooms are fabu!!! I have been taking my clothes to Hector & Maria's for the past three years and I think they're great. Both H&M are sweet, charming people who go out of their way to accomodate. Granted, I only have to have my pants lengthened or taken in, but I've never had a problem with the outcome. Very reasonable, too. I have had some shirts altered that were too big in the shoulders and he did a good job. But no luck with pants. I have had two pairs of pants hemmed. Both times he hemmed them too long, even though I wore the shoes I planned to wear with the pants. With the jeans, he pressed them with a crease down the front. No big deal, I re-ironed at home. So when I brought linen pants in that already had a crease, I requested that he press them without a crease. He seemed surprised and verified that I did not want a crease. When I picked them up, I pointed out that they had a crease and he lectured me, telling me that I have to tell him that in advance. I told him I had and he argued with me! Then I get home and try them on and they rest on the floor. I am going to have to get them rehemmed but I'll go elsewhere--I don't want another lecture!! read more

This place does awful work! Hector does not listen and is hard to understand. I live very close to this tailor and only went out of convenience. I brought two expensive suits to them and was very specific on how I wanted them done. Their work was absolutely awful! The bottom of pants are bunched from terrible stitching. The sleeves too short. I then drove to Gabriel a tailor in oak lawn who I know knows what he's doing and he was appalled at their work. He made some changes but the suits are not right and there's no fixing the damage done by hector and his wife. If you wear cheap clothes and don't care how you look...well then hector is your man. If you have an eye for detail stay far away from this hell hold! I only gave one star because I was forced to in order to post this. read more
