Excellent. The folks that helped us were very friendly and speedy preparing our order. Ample parking behind the shop, as well as some in front. They take orders via phone or in person. Today, Thursday, 8/6/2026 was a horrible experience at Meat City, and I let them know to look for this Yelp, because I was going to let them have it! I walk in the parking lot has a couple of cars, walk in not crowded. I walk over to order a pork loin, no one is behind the counter, I stand there for approximately 5 minutes, then I walk over to the cashier and asked is someone working behind the counter, she answered like I asked a trick question, stumbling for an answer. Then the woman who was stocking the shelf said someone will be with you in a minute, a worker who has waited on me in the past walk behind the counter looked at something and went right back where he came from in the back, didn't acknowledge me or nothing. So, I gave up that area and moved over to the area where chicken is at, since there weren't a lot of people in the store, I figured I'd get specific and asked for 24 pieces of the party wings. Well, the cat just started putting wings (3.99lb) in a bag, no counting and gives me nearly 5 pounds of wings at 18.90. I said take half of that off. Do you know this clown had the nerve to suck his teeth at me, you talk about seeing black, before I could catch myself, I told him, I don't care nothing about you sucking your teeth take half out! I went off from that point forward, I let them know what name to look for, because I was going to light them up on Yelp. Then I took the wings I got and when I went to the register, I told the girl never mind, I don't want them anymore. You have got to be out of your mind if you think you are going to give me your behind to kiss and I traveled from Newark to Linden to make a purchase in your store.

I loved how fresh and clean everything was. The staff was incredibly chatty and warm, answering all of our questions and speaking about their products with so much genuine passion and pride. We ended up absolutely devouring our food! I highly recommend the #3 sandwich, and the best part is they have excellent vegetarian options, too. The place has its own ample parking lot and is quite cute. It is small though and has some fresh produce, dairy, and pantry items at the front, but nothing extensive. Having said that, they had bags of allergen-friendly bread crumbs made without eggs (we haven't seen this before anywhere) which I purchased for my kid with multiple food allergies. Towards the middle, there are baked goods.. cookies, cakes, bread, pies. Something to note: everything has a sticker with "Tom The Green Grocer" on them (or other stickers if it's not made there... I'm assuming the items with their sticker means they're made there) but there are no ingredients listed at all. No names either and if there are, it's generic like "assorted cookies" and the pies had the name written on the boxes (peach, forest fruit, mixed berry, blueberry crumble, apple crumble, pumpkin - off the top of my head). I ended up buying a peach pie for just under $25 each. At the back of the store, there are the prepared foods, cake slices, and sandwich counter. My daughter was eyeing the Oreo cake slices but I didn't get one for her on this trip. The slices are not equally sized and wrapped in cellophane; I noticed some are slightly bigger than others. I'm sure I'll get one for her eventually and I'll report back on that once I do. I'm under the impression a lot of people that go there are regulars. The employees there are... there somewhere (they sort of blend in... I didn't really notice a uniform). We weren't greeted when we came in and weren't asked if we needed any help. It might be because they didn't know, since the cash register has the cashier facing away from the door, but as we walked around, it seemed like people became sparse. Service was lackluster and I don't actually recall a smile. Luckily, when I finally grabbed what I was planning on buying, a new employee was manning the cash register. She answered questions with direct answers, no elaboration. I'm still not sure if the answers were adequate, haha. I had asked what was in the Forest Fruit Pie and she mentioned blueberries and strawberries. Then I asked what was in the Wild Berry Pie and she said "berries." I sort of gave up on it after that and just checked out. An intriguing little neighborhood food-centric shop. I wish they listed out the ingredients on all their baked goods and prepared food and they were a little friendlier and helpful. Even so, I'm sure I'll return again to ask my detailed questions to see if we can have any of their sandwiches. Note: the peach pie we got was quite good and yielded 8, decent sized slices. It was glued to the pie pan (I believe the filling bubbled through and got between the pie and the pan) so none of our slices are whole since we need to scrape the bottom out, but they aren't too sweet, the filling doesn't taste artificial, and the crust is nice and flaky/tender. I'm hoping the fact it was stuck to the pan is a one off and they usually aren't like this. The next time I get a craving for pie, I'll go back for round two and I'll be sure to note whether or not that one is stuck to the pan.
