I highly recommend ordering the fried chicken sandwich and classic Rueben. The fried chicken sandwich had a delicious panko crust with a creamy aioli sauce and sweet chili sauce. In the menu description, it doesn't fully capture the flavor of the sandwich. I would say it's Asian-inspired. Probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! We came for dinner on a Monday and there was plenty of seating. Ambiance left a little to be desired - it somehow was over half empty yet still very loud due to a group sitting at the bar. I imagine if it gets crowded the noise would get to a level that would make it hard to have a conversation. It also was quite cold. As far as food and service go, no complaints! I ordered the chicken piccata, which comes with two sides of your choice. I got the seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes. This is not a review for the GREAT STAFF Workers who I give five stars *****Mary, Juan, Adam and Steve they are the best. My review is for whoever is in charge of the wine choices I would assume it is the Manager who I have no name for. Two weeks ago I came down looking forward to a chilled glass of decent wine with my friend and we were told NO CHARDONNAY so we said ok let's do a rose same answer. On Thursday we came down for dinner and I asked what wine they had and took a taste of an off brand I never heard of and it was not very good. Guys we live in Wine Country how hard is it to get the Sonoma Cutrer of some other brand wines instead of third rate wines? You can go to Total Wine in Corte Madera and get Hess for eight dollars a bottle. Why is almost every other restaurant able to serve decent wine but the Range? Maybe hire a part time beverage manager to come in twice a month and do the ordering. I sincerely hope that whoever is in charge can make some positive wine selections. read more

The range Café has a special on Thursdays of prime rib. I called ahead to make sure it was rare or medium rare. I arrived 20 minutes later and was shown a medium piece as the rarest that they had. I had even called ahead to make sure they had what I wanted. It's a third time that I have come here wants to be told they didn't have it that night even though it was advertised and the other again where I came at six and they were sold out. A recent busy night at Range Cafe revealed all their flaws* but somehow I still enjoyed the place owing to $1.25 oysters (Fridays & Saturdays; fresh but very tiny), live music (check schedule), and golf course/driving range adjacency. It's clear that golfers and neighborhood locals are onto it but unless that's you this isn't a place you'd ever stumble upon. It's worth a drop-in though, for a cocktail, a seat at an outdoor heat-lamped table, a view of the surrounding nature-scape, and displaying your knowledge of local, under-the-radar gems. I'd, in fact, return for all the reasons above and cross my fingers hoping that the service flaws I experienced were an aberration, and not the norm. Time will tell. * Flaws - - Sitting in the bar area, nobody came to take a food or drink order. Order the bar, apparently, though this isn't at all clear. - A server dropped two meals off at the long table where I sat. He placed the food where nobody sat and walked away. Five minutes later I approached the bar to notify a worker that the food belonged to nobody there. It was later collected and marched around and eventually the correct table was found. - My party of 6 was seated and given 1 physical menu. Utensils were equally sparse. A table placard seemed to indicate that orders should be placed online using the menu accessed by the QR code but a server told us we should place our order through him. - A pizza arrived without evidence of any tomato sauce, an order of fries was delivered some 15 minutes after the rest of the food, our bill contained an overcharge ($7.95) for a serving of fries not ordered, the bar ran out of Chardonnay, and servers flat out ignored our table multiple times as we tried to get their attention for more drinks. read more

We are not golfers, .... but we DO love to go to The Range Cafe regularly, enjoy some sunshine and Oysters, and watch the golfers do their thing. That said, we found that the service, which is always very friendly, is just a little more accessible when you sit inside, at the center of all the action. This time we thought we would settle in and make a healthy-sized lunch of it and try some of the other things they have besides our usual oyster-thon. Though, of course, we HAD to have Oysters, too! We love that the hand-held menus are back and, as we looked it over, we felt like we wanted one of everything, it all sounded so good. So, with the three in agreement, of us we decided to try a bunch of things. Juan, our server/bartender, delivered some wonderful Bloody Marys, with just the right amount of zing! ...and what even passes for a vegetable course of celery and olives in each one. A great tee-off for the meal. The Calamari was crispy and fried gently and remained tender. The Clam Chowder was balanced perfectly with a fair amount of clams and not too much potato. The flavor of the sea mingled with the lightly smoky flavor of bacon, as it is made classically! The French Fries were hot and crispy... like we ALL want them to be. Don't expect their Tacos to have the typical Mexican style that you're used to. As soon as we saw them, we knew these were not those. These have a Yucatan flavor and style of tortilla that is old-world. The flavors and homemade style made sure that someone in the kitchen is honoring their mother, and their culture. Ask for the marinated onions for your tacos, too. Sssshhhh.... they're not on the menu, they're made as a treat for the staff. They have a couple other items that are reminiscent of Yuacatan culture, which elevates the "American Fare" here to another level. As for the back-nine, that "American Fare", the Burger was presented exactly as ordered, juicy and fat! A meal in itself. Plus! They have Nathan's Hot Dogs.... music to the ear of those of us from back east! The Margaritas were fun and festive...and had a kick! That may be why we stayed longer, ordered copiously, and had more than our share of fun! The Creme Brûlée could compete with any fine dining establishment, and the coffee is Lavazza brand...so no skimping there. All in all, The Range Cafe is a finer example of Golf Club food than you will find anywhere. And...in case you wanna know... we skipped dinner that night. P.S. In the last few years I've played golf at Peacock Gap I've had HH here, and today I had lunch. Today's lunch was very good. Hubby had the tri tip lunch special and I had the cheeseburger. Pros: * good food * good selection of draft beer on tap. Cons: * no clear cut guidance to sit down or grab n go as there's no greeter or host/hostess at lunch time. * our cell phone carrier's signal is nonexistence at Peacock. No signal so unable to QR the menu even using the Cafe's network. * we had to ask for hard copies of the lunch menu. The server says the online menu and the hard copy menu differ in the sense that some food items may or may not be available. What the heck? * we placed our orders at the bar; paid at the bar; given an upright standing sign with our order #. I understand the above methods were put in place due to COVID, but better communication wouldn't hurt whether it be visual or audio as you first enter. Now that I know the system, I'll be prepared next time. But it was a hassle to start off. read more

This shelter in place got me writing reviews and reminiscing about places I have been to in Marin, and why I haven't reviewed such hidden gems sooner. The Range Cafe is not frou-frou or pretentious at all. They have a superb happy hour with $1 oysters on weekends. The drinks are strong and made with love. Servers and bartenders greet you with a smile. The view is peaceful and pleasant. Checkout their $40 family dinners for takeout or delivery. Choose from take & bake lasagna to buttermilk fried chicken. It's almost like Marin's own version of Tomatina family deals, but way better. Who would've thunk a golf course cafe could make such gourmet dishes and meals. Can't wait to come back for some fresh oysters and vino in hand, let's toast to a better rest of the year. You know that the food must be pretty good if non golfers show up to eat. I realize there isn't a bar or restaurant close to this community so the pickings are slim, however, they offer above average pub grub as well as standard fare for hungry golfers making the turn, to grab n go. Certainly the crows like it, as they hover in the trees on the 10th hole waiting for you to vacate the cart so they can dive bomb in. I've played here so often, I wasn't sure about raw oysters but number 1 son loves them and wanted to give them a try. I must say the oysters were very fresh and clean. The fish sandwich was ok. Not a po boy at all more like a fish filet on a bun, but decent for what it was. I've had turkey wraps, burgers and hot dogs here all made fresh and solid. I always receive great service. The staff are warm, engaging and conscientious. Two of my favorite menu items are the Yucatan Tortilla Soup and the Impossible burger. I like that they have a variety of menu items for various diets. One evening I stopped in, there was live music. The band was great. Ordered three orders (for 12, but only 9 of us) for Easter Brunch. Wow! We were amazed at the amount of food, and all top quality by the way. From the ease of ordering, to pick up (spot on), to serving at our family Easter table, we were very impressed and very happy. Beautiful sunny fall Saturday. Very busy golf course but they had available tables outside. Many tables not bussed yet, loads of dirty dishes. The server was busting his ass trying to man the bar, take and deliver orders and buss tables. It was a one man show but should have been more like a three man show. We waited a long time for everything and some of our order came as we were trying to head out. The Cobb salad was tossed in ranch, strange. No egg also strange. Too heavy and lacking flavor. Better to add egg, blue cheese with a sweet vinaigrette but. No. Hubby had a veggie burger that looked good he said it was ok. Fries tasted old. The baked oysters were very simple and could have used a sauce (creamy). The raw oysters were great very fresh. I'd possibly return but they obviously need more staff and a look at their recipes to see how they can improve and not just settle ok throwing something out there that's mediocre read more

I rarely write reviews but feel compelled to write about the Range Cafe. This was our second time to the Range Cafe in as many weeks. I had the Flat Iron Steak, and it was a perfect medium rare. The side dishes were delicious and made with the same level of care as my steak. My partner had the chicken piccatta, and she loved it. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The manager is a nice woman who remembered our names from the week prior. We feel like valued regulars. Nice atmosphere. We will be back soon. read more

Well, the oysters were still delicious but the music was intolerably loud this last Friday. We literally couldn't hear each other speak, no matter where we sat. We came in for lunch on Sunday and the place was packed.We were greeted by a very nice gentleman who quickly brought us a couple menus.He explained that we could order directly from him or use the QR code on the table . I'd love to say my neighborhood cafe is amazing, but the only things positive is the convenience of walking, the view and friendliness. The waitstaff seems to have never been offered common sense pointers like having utensils at all the tables (I've had to pilfer from other tables on more than one occasion) and taking away empty glasses and small plates. A cigarette butt can in the upper parking lot is obnoxious as well dangerous with the dry grass and so close to homes. Half of the cigarette butts appear to have missed the can. The $1 oysters are a good deal if you can appreciate the tiniest, thinnest little bivalves. Everything is mediocre, but I suppose that's a good thing to keep down the traffic. Most everyone is nice, so extra point for smiles. read more

Had lunch at Range Cafe today and I couldn't wait to share my experience. When I first looked at their specials I saw Beef Osso Bucco and it is served with creamy soft Polenta and Sautéed Spinach. (I forgot to snap a picture of the perfect presentation as I got too excited about it and started eating it right away) The Polenta was amazing and properly prepared; it can easily be undercooked if you don't know how to make it. I am not a fan of Spinach but when I had a little taste, it disappeared from my plate quickly as it was well prepared and the flavor was amazing!!! Definitely coming back for this dish again. I wasn't sure how to review this place. We had a group of 9 on the holiday Monday after the 4th of July. They were clearly understaffed and it took a long time to get table service. I guess we could've ordered using the QR code on the table. All of the entrees came out quickly except for two which were about 15 minutes later (mine). The reviews from the table were very good. My Chicken Picatta was hot and very tasty when it finally arrived. As I was asking my brother-in-law about the clam chowder, he discovered a piece of metal (from a metal brush?) in his food. They did their best to rectify the situation, but the damage had been done. We were comped the late meals and the soup with the metal fragment and the churros for dessert. I really appreciated the effort to make things right. The food is good here and I would come back, but this night was not their night. read more

I am updating my review, and this time, I am giving Range Cafe 5 Stars. Lately, I have been eating there regularly and I have been quite pleased. I haven't had to wait a bit for a server to greet me once I am seated. In my recent visits, there has always been someone who promptly attended to me. Service has been excellent! Their food is consistently very good! They do not have a vast menu, but every item they offer is fresh and delicious. Well, at least everything that I've tried. My personal picks which I especially enjoy are their "Chico Tacos," "Quinoa Salad," "Calamares," "Chicken Wings," Caesar Salad," "Fish Tacos," "Chicken Sandwich" and "Club Sandwich." Since I live in the neighborhood, it is pretty convenient for me to eat at Range Cafe after an hour or so walk or hike. There have also been a few times, when I invited my friends to lunch and I took them to Range Cafe. So far, all the meals have been delightfully enjoyable! Just one thing though....I hope they have "Pancakes" in their breakfast menu. :) read more
