Wednesdays can never come soon enough. Pershing Square has had this Farmers Market here for over two years and I can never get enough of it. Pershing Square recently renovated the area and now this farmers market is even better than ever. I come to something just walk around here and end up getting fruits usually. They are organic and fresh as they come. Also, the food options here keep changing for the better. Recently a Rice Ball place has been coming and its a hit for sure. They set up around the circle water fall on the south west corner closest to 6th and Olive. I would definitely recommend this farmers market to all. They maintain it very well, its not dirty and with the renovation the place looks much better. It does get pretty busy during the lunch rush but most lines move quickly. Again, the fruit and vegetables are great here plus the other items they sell from different vendors. I like having this alternate option for lunch when I am eating out, rather than the same restaurants around the area. Most places accept only cash but now some have begun accepting debit cards as well. Come and enjoy this farmers market if you are in the area on Wednesdays from 11am to 1:30pm! read more

Wednesday is market day in DTLA where all kinds of organic goods are being offered. There's one fruit stand all the way at the end with 3-4 guys attending with choices of fresh or dried pluots, plums, oranges, apples and a lot more that are super sweet & juicy. All kinds of raw and toasted nuts are worthy to mention. They always have that chopped fruits for each type as samples so everyone can taste before buying. Cooked food & refreshing drinks in variety are present as well. Fresh dips, chips & pita bread are equally awesome. The tricky part here is that the market closes at 2pm or 2:30pm at the latest so you should take the time out to avail of these good stuff! read more

Visiting the Farmer's Market at Pershing square is one of my favorite parts of the week. It is one of the smaller Farmer's Markets that I have been to, but the selection is great. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend visiting the Farmer's market for lunch. One of my favorite snacks to get are the roasted peanuts for $2. I didn't think I would be such a big fan, but they have become one of my favorite foods at the Farmer's market. There hasn't been one vendor that I have tried that has disappointed me. The food is fresh and the vendors are friendly and the lines usually move quickly. I only wish that Pershing Square offered more seating for visitors. I look forward to work on Wednesdays, solely for this farmer's market. I ensure that I don't pack food Tuesday night, so I can go to the farmer's market. When my mom tells me to bring something to work Wednesday Morning, I need to respectfully decline. Pershing Square's farmer's market is my gift from the farmer market gods. I've only been here twice but ohhh my did they leave a great impression. When my co workers brought me here, I was flabbergasted. From my entrance, the first thing I saw was lobster grilled cheese. LOBSTER at a farmer's market?!?! WHAT?!? It also sounded expensive so I passed by with a ss lol but I've bookmarked this place to re-visit with my lobster roll loving boyfriend Afterwards, I saw KBBQ, middle eastern, BBQ, Peruvian, Salvadorian, Mexican and Asian food. I probably paced back and forth 4-5 times, breathing in and soaking up the variety of goodies I can consume. I ended up getting pupusas. For ONLY $5, I was able to get 2 pupusas which came with a small bag of vegetables and red sauce. I topped off my meal with a $4 blueberry pomegranate drink My co-workers got pupusas, Mediterranean food and burritos. The pupusas were AMAZING. I got shrimp and cheese then chicken and cheese. My second time visiting, I got chicharron (pork and cheese (?) and their chorizo and cheese. The chicharron was the best option I tried. The chorizo was a close second. The blueberry pomegranate was delectable. The best type of "juice" and agua fresca I've tried!! It was so unique, non sweet and different from the typical flacors. I gave my co workers all a sip and they ended up ordering one too. My co-worker didn't enjoy the Mediterranean plate ($12?) as much. She's a fan of white sauce and didn't prefer the one they used. Their displayed wraps however, looked delicious. I'll probably split that with someone next time. My coworker's burritos ($9) were smaller than what can usually get at Mexican restaurants but they said the quality of ingredients were good. Gourmet almonds were also bought at the farmers market which was about $4-6(?) a cup and tasted great as well. I planned all my upcoming Wednesday lunches here. One with different co-workers, others with friends, family and everyone else I've bragged about this place to. It's a perfect place to go when your answer to lunch suggestions are "I don't know, what do you want to eat?". It's a beautiful surrounding with lots of clean seating and sometimes entertainment. This event is held every Wednesday from 11:30AM to 3PM. It is the closest farmer's market to my workplace, so it's #1 out of convenience. Like other farmer's markets, they had hot food, flowers, fresh produce, kettle corn, jewelry, and clothing vendors. The layout of the booths were around the circular fountain, which was pretty cool to sit and watch. My favorite food vendor is Argentinian Empanadas. The empanadas are $3 each and fried-to-order. I like their spicy chicken empanada the best, but I wish they had one with cheese and spicy chicken together. I love cheese! Be sure to ask for salsa for dipping. Yum! On a recent visit, I bought a silver ring for only $5. Cheap and hand made! read more

Todays purchase was kettle corn! I was craving something sweet and crunchy so this really hit the spot. The guy at the stand was super chill and easy to talk to. Each bag is $6 and they have other flavors like caramel and cheese. Make sure you grab one thats still warm so you know its fresh :) Other favorites at this farmers market are the chicken fried rice from the Incan food stand, dollar cookie bags from the pastry place and hummus & pita from any of the stands (there's several of them). read more

Decided to check out Pershing Square and its farmer's market this week. Not bad. -- It's not crowded, so you don't have to fight with anyone to get the best fruit/veggies/whatever you want. (Although to be honest, I wish it was a tad bit more crowded just because I feel way too self conscious and pressured when I am the only person browsing a booth) -- There is a lot of variety: clothes, fruits, veggies, nuts, kettle corn, food vendors -- The location is convenient: if you drove, there's a garage downstairs that you can park at and I think the price is supposed to be decent for dtown LA. Or you can take the metro! $1.50 one way, either the red or purple line. I'm only giving them three stars, however, because: -- I didn't really find any fruits/produce that I wanted and the prices are a bit high (which is partially my fault because the stuff I love isn't in season right now). I will say, though, that the Fruits&Nuts vendor is expensive. It was $8 for a small container of ginger! Ridiculous. -- I didn't try the food vendors (had lunch at Grand Central Market instead) I did buy a small bag of kettle corn and I like it. In terms of size, not as large as Santa Monica or Carlsbad FM's, but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Prices may not be a 'steal', but great variety of fruits & veggies (organic available), peanuts, cinnamon almonds/pecans/walnuts, bread bars, and about 6-10 tents with a variety of foods from kabobs to fish tacos to papusas! When in-season, I love coming here for the organic cherries (Ranier and Bing). So good! As far as parking is concerned, there's a lot under Pershing Square but I'm sure it costs an arm and a leg. The ones who are there every week always get our cash$ Okay this one guy grows his strawberries so dam huge they are the size of a latge apricot...they are ripe...firm...sweet as pure sugar. The Pershing Square market, which is spread sufficiently throughout the perimeter of the park, still feels rather small and encased (read: trapped) within the confines of a normally homeless haven. Vagrants do hang out (they are in Pershing Sq all other hours of the day and simply put up with the "encroachment" of the market); and will pester the occasional shopper for money but never for food. The vendors offer lovely goods, and they are usually a tad pricey. What they charge is in line with pricing you'll find at farmer's markets throughout SoCal. Most vendors are great about giving samples and I've noticed the berry vendors especially encourage sampling of their product. Most are, of course, cash only. Honestly, I prefer the market on Thursdays at City Hall on Spring St - it offers hilly and grassy areas on which to sit and there are more options for shade. The lines there are a little longer and there are less vendors, but the atmosphere is much more pleasant. read more

There are a number of reasons why living and working in Downtown has spoiled me rotten. Rotten to the core! First (and obvious) being that my morning commute involves only my own two feet. But another reason is the plethora of weekday Farmers' Markets at my disposal. Despite the lack of certain kinds of amenities in Downtown (oh, Trader Joe's, how I pine for thee), we have no less than three weekday Farmers' Markets, all within walking distance of moi. And of those three, this Wednesday market located smack in the middle of Pershing Square is possibly my favorite. Here are my suggestions and quick tips for this market: ~Beware of the "Organic" fruit stand that doesn't post the prices by their produce. Unless, you know, you don't have a problem with spending $4 for one apple. ~Look for the apple stand that is run by the super nice Asian fellow (as of late located towards the center of the park, next to the nut guy). His apples are outstanding, his prices are right on, and on more than one occasion he throws in an extra apple or two after I've picked and paid for my own. Sweet! ~For herbs, check out the stand located near the corner of Hill and 6th. They have a nice variety, and for a dollar you get a huge bunch of basil. But beware that this may also cause you to fly into a rage when you're forced to pay $2 at the supermarket for three anemic looking basil leaves. Robbery!! ~As a chronic lunch creature of habit, if I'm buying lunch I either go for the tamale stand or the $5 chicken sandwich from Thai-Mex BBQ. The chicken is smoky, BBQ-y deliciousness and they give you tons of it. ~If you're a late luncher, the Greek place often cuts their prices to $5 for all of their combo plates at around 1:30 to 2:00PM. What a deal! And at the risk of sounding "preachy," if you live/work in the area, please consider patronizing one of these markets. The farmer gets about 5 cents of the dollar you pay on that apple at the supermarket, and a hundred percent of it at the farmers' market. Honestly, though, once you taste the apple direct from the farmer, you won't be tempted by its inferior grocery store cousins again. read more

I've been coming to this Farmer's Market long before they moved to Pershing Square and have been a huge fan for years. The fresh produce cannot be beat - particularly the strawberries. They are the absolute best b/c they come straight from Oxnard, where the best strawberries are harvested. I get mine specifically from Ayala Farms - $5 for 3 baskets and the feel goods that come from supporting local businesses run by hard-working, respectful, tax paying immigrants. Yes, they do exist despite the ignorant, hateful vitriol spewed by Drumpf and his ilk. Yeah, it got political. DEAL. The food vendors sometimes change over time and honestly, it can get pricey. $11 for 3 fish tacos and a drink? Um, no thanks. That said, there are plenty of options and most are very affordable. My other obsession are the cinnamon & sugar coated nuts sold by the mother/son duo - she's got some super hot sons, btw! Anyway, I've been a consumer of theirs since 2008 and their pecans are worth every single calorie! Love love love them! The market is clean, organized, and everyone is super friendly. If you're concerned about transients or crime, don't be - there'e plenty of security and honestly, it's a non-issue. read more

This farmer's market used to be by the library on 5th St. every Wednesday, but about a year or so ago it moved to Pershing Square. There's a lot more room here and it doesn't feel like a crowded street fest, however, I kind of miss that feel. Otherwise, there's a good number of produce stands that are set up along the edges of the south side of Pershing Square. For the most part, I stop by here almost every other Wednesday for lunch. My co workers love this spot as well for a mid week lunch. There is a line of food stands, ranging from Mexican to Greek to Peruvian, to miscellaneous food stands (tamales, bacon wrapped dogs, cheesesteaks, pupusas, tacos etc). Some are better than others, but I guess it depends on what you are in the mood for. Also, most of these stands are cash only. read more

If there is any semblance of routine activity I can boast of performing, it is going to this farmer's market every week. Eric T. is right--Wednesday afternoons in Pershing Square is completely lacking the haughty L.A.-ness we thread through at the other markets (you know, the spotless wide-leg linen pants and floppy sunhat type pushing a stroller or walking an ugly miniature). As a result, and as evidence of the absence of the see-and-be-seeners, you'll notice it's far from crowded--no need to rush to get the pick of the produce. You'll find the food prices are actually very good if you check what's at its peak in season (ie--what fields and groves are bursting with and farmers need to get rid of) beforehand. Someday, I will know the California seasons for all my favorite fruits and vegetables by heart, but for now I cheat by using the list on the left side of the page from this link: http://www.farmernet.com/events/cfms Strawberries are littering the market right now, but I recommend those from the jolly guy at the very middle (he is across the fountain from fast food stands). He will also give tips on how to compare fruits to find the tastiest (think melon) and couldn't be more polite. I also LOVE the Asian man with boxes upon boxes of greens on the stairs above Hill Street. At the risk of taking my description of fresh fruit to a questionable level, biting into one of his tomatoes is like discovering a whole new food, and the bulbous-looking heirlooms are particularly delicious if you can find one that literally looks and feels like it's ready to explode from ripeness. I'm confused about the comment about parking--there is a parking garage underneath Pershing Square and two lots within view from it (one across Hill, the other across 5th), then another garage behind B of A. It is also very easy to get to via Metro or bus, so you can feel doubly good about buying local and using public transport in the same day--eat THAT, floppy hat-wearers of LA. read more

On the one day of the week, at the right time of the day, I find myself at Pershing Square for the first time...and what do I find? A Farmer's Market! Score!! It was a real treat walking through all the stalls and checking out what they had to offer! The smell elevating from this place was completely mesmerizing. After seeing all the tents, I decided to grab fish tacos from Ensenada Fish Tacos. (Note: "Ensenada Fish Tacos" NOT the same as "Best Fish Tacos in Ensenada". The former is hands down much better, as the latter seems full of themselves [ie. they aren't the best].) The fish in those tacos were enormous, definitely making it a tad difficult to close the tortillas, after adding as much cabbage, tomatoes, and salsa as you want. They were also fried perfectly! (They have grilled, if you're trying to eat healthy.) The breading was very light, and did not overwhelm the fish (Swai). Apart from my delicious lunch, the food and produce at this Farmer's Market are decently priced. Great that they don't rack up the prices for more profits. I hope I have the time in the future to come back. Would really want to try more of the food here! read more

Produce is usually always good, and if you don't believe me, they got free samples!! Kettle corn and candied nuts are always on point!! You can buy flowers or some jewelry for your boo there too, but lunch time food is where it's at. They got bacon wrapped hot dogs, mexican food, pupusas, but I got 3 go to spots: Happy Inka, Tamales or Mamae's Cooking. Happy Inka got all the saltado dishes and some tasty fried rice plates for about $7-8. The tamales are always good too, like $3 a piece, but Mamae's is the spot right now. $5 Cheesesteak or pastrami sandwich, DANG!! and throw in an extra dollar and you got fries with that too. Cherries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cantaloupes, watermelons, apples, peaches, nectarines, apricots, figs, oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, avocados, tomatoes, herbs, lettuces, cabbages, green beans, onions, potatoes, corn, bok choy, you name it. This is a fantastic little farmers' market that I've been to a handful of times. The prices are cheaper than the ones on the Westside, especially for the mixed nuts (jalapeño pistachios and lemon almonds are the best). The food stands are great and offer a nice variety. I recommend buying a juice first and then browsing all the stalls before ordering, as the choices are plentiful and waiting for food under the downtown sun can be brutal. read more

I love the Pershing Square Farmers Market because: 1. The pupusa vendor makes the BEST pupusas, many of them are vegetarian friendly. You get 2 pupusas for 5 dollars, including the cabbage and hot sauce. 2. The Asian family (corner and Hill and 6th) stand sells all sorts of great FRESH vegetables for cheap. Get your bok choy and basil fix from here. 3. The bread lady from Ventura sells the best fresh sliced breads, all types, in addition to sweets 4. The hummus dudes next to the bread lady always have a 4 for 10 dollar special and they sell more than just hummus 5. There are PLENTY of fruits stands 6. It's the middle of the week, so you know you need to replenish your farmers market stock from last weekends shopping. 7. I love going to farmers markets!!! This one especially has a good mix of food, produce, and random goods which makes it a more fun one to go to. It's one of the larger farmer markets so its almost certain that you can find something for yourself. It's also very close to my work! This market basically takes over the entirety of pershing square. There's a stage on one side with some tables set out near the grassy area then the other side is the stands of food and produce and miscellaneous goods. Most of the stands are grouped together by type. The produce stands here number maybe 20ish abouts. Every kind of produce you can think of, even an asian produce stand. Some organic, some not. Prices very greatly from one stall to the next. One organic peach and plums place was selling for only $2 a pound, another non organic peach and plum place was selling at $3 a lb. Gotta look round before buying! Definitely check out the food stands as they have a good variety. Kettle corn, the usual, but they also sell other types of popcorn there too. Check out the hummus guys who have really good olives and are very easy going and hand out a gazillion samples. I was simply trying some of the olives when they started handing me hummus samples...I basically had an entire appetizer course just at that stand alone. There was also a pupusas stand, peruvian, cinnamon almonds, korean bbq, tacos and quesadillas, etc etc. A good variety of food stands. First off, I love living in DTLA but the lack of grocery stores and disdain for Ralph's outrageous prices makes fresh fruit and veggie buying a little tricky. I was going to make a lit of all the reasons I love this farmers market in particular but p k. took the words right out of my mouth. To add to it: The agua frescas are so wonderful. If you go as they are closing up they'll usually give you one for a $1. Normally $3. Everyone is friendly, full of answers to your questions and ever willing to give you a million samples. I love work on wed during during LA springs and summers. It signals the start of the pershing square farmers market and translates to tasty lunches that are off the beaten path of the usual downtown eats. Get me to the Greek! Huge fan of the greek food stand which can be pricey at $9 a plate, but they make sure you get your money's worth. I kid you not when they pack every square inch of that white to go box full of rice, kebabs, shaved lamb meat, hummus and fallafels. The best part, you can mix and match whatever you like into a plate. The philly steaks are also tasty as is the el salvadorean pupusas and combo items. Although there has def been less food vendors since the move from in front of the library over to pershing. The various tents and vendors selling produce and fruit are a refreshing treat like fruit bearing trees in the downtown concrete jungle. A pound of cherries or fresh strawberries are always a nice take-away back to the offices and surrounding sky scrapers. My only gripe... bring back some of the other vendors! read more

I checked out this market for the first time a couple weeks ago, and overall, it was a good experience. By no means the best Farmer's Market I've ever been to, but definitely one of the largest. They had a ton of produce to choose from, but some of it was low quality, so it took a while to look through each tent. If you aren't looking to buy produce, the food stands look great. Since Fig at 7th opened "Taste" with several fast serve restaurants, the managment made all the food vendors at the Thursday Farmer's Market beat it! I'm still getting over it, as it seems there is plenty of business to go around. I missed my favorite lunch of the week from the Yummy Crepe stand. It's called the "Cancer Fithter" and is a mix of onions, zuchini, brocoli, mushrooms and carrots in this wonderful curry-ish sauce with brown rice ($5!). You can add tofu, shrimp or chicken for $2 (I think). Anyway, I finally thought to check this farmer's market and there he is!!!! YEAH!!! So so happy!! A bit more of a walk from South Park, but soooo worth it! I never knew I liked "curry", I saw this guys sign and beautiful picture of the dish and couldn't resist. I was hooked!! I ate this EVERY thuursday for close to a year, then gone..... I am so glad I found him again and plan on hitting up the Wednesday market every week! Check out my picture. The market also has FRESH eggs! Great produce, some of the same vendors as the Thursday market, but more. There are kabobs, fried fish tacos, I wish they were grilled and a few other food vendors. Every Wednesday I get so excited because it means that I get to go to the Pershing Square Farmers Market! Although it is on the smaller end of the farmers market spectrum, it does not disappoint. They have a small but great lunch selection. My favorites include the pupusa and tamale stations respectively. I suggest coming for the great fruit and but samples and for a lunch under $5. read more

Every Wednesday 11:30-2 or 3. This is the larger of the farmers markets in DTLA. Everything is good, & you can pretty much sample any fruit before you buy it. Go during lunchtime to save $ on a meal by sampling all the fruit you want. (at least purchase a basket of strawberries!) read more

GREAT farmer's market!! Its near my work and has a big diversity of fresh fruits, vegis, bbq food, popcorn, roasted nuts, hummis/bread, honey, juice, etc. I love their $1.00 bundles of greens (spinich, broccolini, mints/herbs, green onions, green beans, squash and much more! on the Hills Street side and 6th-Big Tent. Also the many choices of $4.00/$5.00-3 baskets of Strawberries and other Berries are great this summer! It is actually better than the Highland Park and South Pasadena Farmer's Market. The South Pasadena Farmer's Market sells their 3-basket of Stawberries for $8.00/$10.00!! I know the residents can afford it, but what a Rip-Off!! read more

nice to go and buy some veggies/herbs once in a while, but it aint cheap. Prices comparable to a regular market, so they are moderate to high. Even the produce guy 1st to open on the 6th/hill corner not cheap. The food I stay the fuck away from, all stands look nasty I can only imagine the lack of sanitation. If you like street truck style then go for it. They have a guy who sells nuts, a guy that sells avocadoes, olive oils. etc. all pretty darn expensive. $20 bucks for a freakin bottle of olive oil? Good luck with that business in this economy where people are substituting any-kinda-oil to save. Bottom line: if there is a trader joes close to your vicinity, this place is not needed. But if you live here and thank God I only work here, this is your go to place. The candied almonds/pecans at the roasted nuts stand is prob my favorite item. Some vendors offer 1/2-price deals and shit when it gets close to closing time. (fast foodz NOT produce vendors) Overhyped ballyhoo here. But you always get the sense people come here because they feel "cool" and smarter than other people if they shop from here. read more

I stumbled upon this market when I was downtown, even though it's small, it offers a bit of a selection on produce and food!! I'm a fan of the Peruvian food I had, nice view of the towers, the park is in need of some trees though, too much concrete! read more

DTLA dwellers and workers can appreciate getting some semi fresh air and trek over here to dine al fresco. The taco stand here is totally legit and worth the wait if you've got the time. That stand for aqua Fresca is always super friendly and let's you customize you drink from adding multiple flavor a to asking for more or less ice. There's also s roasted nuts stand that will convert anyone to try one... even if you have a nut allergy. No joke. read more

Okay, what's with the parking? Why isn't there any? I invited a friend to have lunch with me who drove all the way to DTLA and she couldn't find parking. The structure parking was outrageous, so I was outraged! If anyone from the CCFM (California Certified Farmer's Market) is reading this, please be aware of people needing to park their cars.
